I prefer not to waste time on the Diablo-like ARPG genre. It's 99% RNG 1% actual "action".

I've never played either one, but I do like that guy's hat, so that one.

I like that PoE has a variety of modes but I hate that it's always online. I'd kill for a single player version or a pirated server I could localhost.
I thought grimdawn was too boring to complete. Maybe it has a good endgame I never reached?
Honestly D2 has been #1 for far too long now. If Blizzard would give remastered another expansion it'd probably sell more than D4.

this is my gripe with poe as well i just wish it was a offline game with optional multiplayer like GD

I have played PoE for a decade and Grim Dawn for around 67 hours only.
I like GD but always end up bouncing it off pretty quickly. I think I'll give it another try and buy all the expansions when the new one comes out
PoE has its issues but it also just has a good amount of content to chew through and things to work towards and farm. The key is to play SSF instead of trade (or play trade and only buy things that are cancerous to self-farm like 2% drop-rate uber unique)

They both kinda suck but I would rather play more PoE than GD

every time i try PoE my interest peters out during yellow maps
idk how people just grind and grind and grind for 16+ hours daily using the same abilities over and over and over

PoE is better for ability switching than any other arpg. The other ones you pick a class and you're lucky if you get 2 attacks a mobility skill and a buff.
With PoE you can swap out your attack gem for anything else anytime really.
Gamers haven't truly suffered until they're stuck with 2-3 skills for an entire 100hr game. There are too many of those kinds of games these days. Diablo 3 and 4 aren't helping things either. As the world looks and tries to copy whatever they do,

you can literally respec anytime in gd as well it's even less punishing in terms of respec than poe

          Who said anything about respecing?
You said the same abilities over and over bored you. There is a difference between swapping an attack gem and changing classes.

        >PoE is better for ability switching than any other arpg.
Maybe but only because Marvel Heroes shutdown. That game had characters that required 8+ skills in rotation to be optional plus a load of other mana generation mechanics no other diablo clone has done plus mobility skills and "mounts". I feel sorry for people who didn't get to play it. I pray every day it comes back.

I've played Path of Exile off and on since 2012.. I really want to like Grim Dawn but I just cannot get into it. I've tried a few times, most recently with the big patch a month or two ago. Stuck with it for like 15 hours and just.. didn't really have any fun. I'm not even some zoomzoom homosexual with PoE.
I honestly think a big part of it is the itemization, how items are laid out, etc. Maybe it's just because PoE is the first ARPG I really got into but something about items in that game just makes sense, the mods on items are kept really concise while still easily conveying what they do. The item tooltips are kinda like visually pleasing and easily digestible. There isn't some bloated amount of like 10 different resistance types. The inventory seems way less cluttered in most cases.
Maybe I would feel differently if I got more used to Grim Dawn and its items but the actual combat and action of the game is also just extremely bland, the animations and skill effects are awful, etc.

It's hard to describe but grimdawn wasn't fun to play. PoE and Epoch were. They were just fun to play. It's the same with D4, it's just not fun to actually play. If some anon could explain this that'd be awesome, but that's how I feel anyways.

this is exactly how i feel about poe, have around 40 hours in it and could never really get into it, it seems like theres way too many systems and unnecessary levels of complexity and i feel the same way about tooltips except i find poe tooltips a lot worse, gd with rainbow filter i can just easily glance at an item and see all the stats in a millisecond, gameplay starts slower and power gain is more gradual compared to poe and another thing is its offline so i dont have to rely on internet or gggs servers

Totally fair. Like I said I think the main part of it for me is just that PoE was the first ARPG I sunk a ton of hours into, and I started that game when it was a lot more barebones so I was able to digest all the added systems one at a time.

I've tried poe and didn't like how utterly autistic it is, I'm playing grim dawn right now, so far much less autistic, but overall not some mindboggling game either.

i've tried playing grim dawn a few times but it just didn't hook me.
Ppl shit on PoE for being popular but as far as i'm concerned it is head and shoulders over all the rest.
shoutout to Last Epoch- I was playing it before D4 came out but haven't gotten very far but its been pretty fun. Will have to jump back into it.

D4 was OK. i had fun, but you play it until level 77 or whatever and call it a day.

I prefer GD because it's a complete game that works in single player and p2p coop mode which means I don't zave to worry about being able to play it 25 years from now (D2 is 23 years old and still great) compared to the live service forced online economy based PoE.

Grim Dawn is the better one and done ARPG. POE is for end game autism. We need more ARPGs like Grim Dawn that are mainly just RPGs and not MMO-lites.
