So does Eevee and Pidgey
Quite telling when the devs just treat it like a Poison/Dark type
Gen 2 had so many unusable shitmons like this. Glad gen 4 saved a lot of them. Why exactly did they stop doing that?
And not just playing Stadium 2, you had to:
>Beat all Stadium mode cups (1 run of Prime and Little Cup, 4 runs of Poke and Challenge Cup, challenge gives you random mon with random sets that often have little rhyme or reason moreso than the usual)
>Gym Leader Castle (which in this game includes the 8 Johto Gyms, a Team Rocket sidequest to tie in with them taking over the Radio Tower, the Elite 4 and Lance, the Kanto Gyms and then Red)
>Finally get the final boss against the Box Legends + Mewtwo
>Then you have to do it all over again in Round 2 where the AI starts input reading and has sets designed to destroy your hopes and dreams that basically require cheesing with Elemental Punches Alakazam or praying to RNGsus that pity is taken upon your soul
All for a fricking EQ Gligar. And I thought getting Surfing Pika in the first game was steep.

I still have no idea why the gen 2 learnsets sucked so much dogshit.

Houndoom gets Solarbeam, Wooper gets Ice Punch, Raikou DOESN'T get Tbolt (despite Entei getting Flamethrower and Suicune getting Surf) until Crystal, Celebi doesn't learn any Grass moves via level up and Umbreon doesn't get any Poison moves other than Toxic despite it's dex entry saying it can spray Poison from it's pores and this being the Gen that introduces Sludge Bomb (which I know is technically a holdover from the Spaceworld Demo typing but still)
if you think that's bad, you should check out some gen 1 and 3 learnsets
4 goes underappreciated for making viable moves of every type and giving them to every mon of that type
The levels they learn them at can be pretty bad even in Gen 4.
Hoot hoot is stuck with Peck and Uproar until level 21. Doesn't get a good special STAB until 29. Its period of relevancy in the game is levels 11 to 20. Starly fricking rapes it.
Before DP they just didn't care about giving every Pokemon a viable movepool

Movepools used to be pretty fricking dumb. I still find it wild that if you use an evolution stone too early in Gen 1 some Pokemon just never learn any new moves, ever. Want to get Arcanine ASAP? Get fricked, you're stuck with Ember.

I find it funny that Ampharos STILL learns thunder punch upon evolving, despite the move being useless for a special attacker since gen 4
Crystal Legacy makes him a bit better. Slightly more attack and speed and an improved move pool like Mud Slap at 16, Wing Attack at 24 and Earthquake at 36

I love how much effort it takes to even find the thing and its movepool is absolutely barren. It needs TMs and HMs to even function. Although I guess it's fine in some cases like what the frick else is going to use Fury Cutter anyway
