He was well respected by his peers as a gang banger but otherwise had no future, no career or social status outside of that one specific niche. Unlike Carl, Sweet was unable to go out there and make a name for himself, so he desperately held onto the past while pressuring his family into sticking to it with him, using tradition and honoring your family as an excuse. This was also what caused Big Smoke to turn against him as he was more welcoming to change and saw the crack boom as their ticket to success.
