Unironically yes, the pokemon Crystal drops does make it arguably worse than GS. A lot of Crystal's earlygame is shitmons that have normal type moves as their hardest hitting move.

I just got to Azalea town, here’s my team (Wooper, Dunsparce, Ledyba, and Chikorita respectively). I was incredibly lucky and somehow ran into a dunsparce as my first encounter in dark cave, so I caught it.
Crystal is still worth playing today, homosexual pro nuzlockers and other Pokétubers be damned >able to skip tutorials >game is perfectly beatable with no grinding unless you want to use the Extremespeed Dratini I guess, even with a full team of six >able to ignore Suicune entirely after Burned Tower just like you could skip encountering Ho-oh and Lugia in GS >incredibly charming Pokémon animations
Why the FRICK are Snubbull and Marill so fricking hard to find?
I love those guys and Marill was really easy to get but Snubbull is just impossible. I've stumbled upon Entei and Raikou more times than I've seen a Snubbull, and Marill and Snubbull had an OVA to promote them.
What was Game Freak thinking?
You can only find Snubbull in route 38 on Soulless Silver.
Marill is on the cave north of Ecruteak, forgot the name, and it's so rare it might as well not exist.

But oh no Stantler isn't in the game, who gives a frick
