Playboy. You already have money at that point and you get Playboy's Penthouse.

Moot question. You literally get a whole fricking safehouse (and a friend) if you kill X. Killing Dwayne only gives you a measly 50k (which doesn't mean shit because there's only so many ways you can spend money in IV).

Dwayne is probably the only interesting character in that piece of shit game.

Not even Ganker is contrarian enough to justify killing Dwayne.
I kinda like that it's a story split but with a very obvious right answer. Siding with X is only an option as a trap with people with 0 street smarts/ not paying attention to the story. Any level of social intelligence tells you not to trust playboy but the game never tells you not to outright.

Assuming the game had realistic consequences for your actions. Killing Playboy would probably have meant that his gang would try to get revenge on you or Roman. In the same way that killing Francis should have been more risky than killing Derek

Everyone knows Dwayne was responsible, Niko is just a nameless hitman to everyone else.
That beef doesn't really involve Niko, I assume all the old heads knew and sided with dwayne, and the young bloods probably didn't like x either. Everyone beneath X probably only benefitted from his death, they likely being just as cut throat and opurtunistic as he was.
It's not the Italian mob, black street gangs are too chaotic for "made men" protections. obviously when Niko does cross more well connected people there are more consequences, it's honestly well thought out.

Nah cause the thing was playboy was it was all superficial

I killed Dwayne on my second playthrough. I thought you'd get his apartment instead, but nope.
...and Playguy rings you up to call you an butthole for carrying out his hit. What the frick?

everybody kills playboy, the story is incredibly transparent about the fact that he is clearly a terrible guy and absolutely in the wrong, the safehouse you get is a better gameplay reward too. the only people who would kill dwayne are moronic contrarians

was this game actually well-written or just serviceable for a video game? been awhile since I played it but incidentally RDR1 had worse writing than I remembered

Playing it as a kid it definitely felt more "boring" than GTA VC/SA to me at the time, but looking back + comparing it to GTA V's cringefest of a story, I've come to appreciate the way the story is more grounded and has Niko traversing through all the different walks of crime life in LC. You got the Irish crime family missions, inner city crime/drug dealing missions, mafia shit and it meshes together decent enough

Sucks that it seems every GTA going forward is going to have GTA V's DNA in it.

Dwayne. He practically begged to be put out of misery.

Dwayne was too pathetic to kill so I went to the other guy.
Being fair their whole dispute is silly and could have been solved with a talk or just each going their way.

Reminder that killing Derrick is objectively the correct choice.

      Now this choice was difficult.
Either: side the schizo who backstabs everyone or the corrupt wannabe cop.
The former, his family grieves, the latter, expected to be a matter of when not if. also Niko only gets a temporary wanted level repellent.

I know everyone says that you should kill Playboy X but nowadays I think killing Dwayne is a more sensible choice from the perspective of the story. Playboy never lied to you and he isn't wrong either when he says that Dwayne needs to be taken care of because he's so unpredictable. Dwayne has no future, he's completely washed up and the only two paths ahead of him are either to kill himself or to go back to prison, he's never crawling out of the hole he found himself in. At that point you're doing him a favor by killing him.

yeah after acting like you were best friends. he was using Niko to do his dirty work. and thats even when excusing Rockstar for being lazy and not taking that arch any further

Playboy has no loyalty to Dwayne, you're supposed to figure out he has as little loyalty towards you and this is confirmed if you make the bad choice of killing Dwayne.
      >Dwayne has no future, he's completely washed up and the only two paths ahead of him are either to kill himself or to go back to prison
      >he's never crawling out of the hole he found himself in
      >At that point you're doing him a favor by killing him
Playboy cope-aganda, the whole story is about the warped American dream that the underclass are chasing.
      Unironically anyone can make it.
Especially if there's more space to move in once one of the big players gets taken out.

Him not wanting to associate with you any more after killing Dwayne isn't him being disloyal, he tells you straight that he doesn't want anything to do with you anymore.

          >spend a lot of time with him
          >says he's your homeboy
          >"hey bestie, could you kill my mentor and father figure for me pwease uwu?"
          >do him a favor and kill Dwayne
"yo dawg you an ice cold mfer fr, i don't want to play with you anymore. bye felicia"
Frick Playboy. He was never a real homie.

Real homies end up in a ditch. There's a reason Playboy made it big while Dwayne was rotting in prison.

              >Real homies end up in a ditch
Dwayne was a real homie and in my playthrough he and Niko went for drinks every now and then after I got Playboy's sweet apartment.

they overplayed dwayne's sadness and nobody really hangs out with him long enough to see him start to recover after niko tells him to cheer up.
you get the triangle club back for him and nothing happens. at that point he should have been there rebuilding himself instead of grinding though a dozen hangouts with him to start. and later on in the game he should moved out from his shithole into a nicer place.
