This. He's got at least 60-70 more years to contemplate if leaking GTA6 was worth it. By the time he dies, people won't even know what GTA or Rockstar were anymore.

More skilled yes, for sure, but life in prison for leaking some parts of a children's game 2 years early isn't an accomplishment kek. It's like saying 17 year-old DeMarcus Jayshawn, who raped and killed 5 innocent people, is an accomplished person because he actually went and did something in his life unlike the people on Ganker kek.

I haven't been to prison, but I know several people who have and they all pretty much agree it's not as bad as people say it is. Going to jail for something like money laundering isn't anything other than a funny conversation piece compared to say, child rape. Which is prison-b***h territory.

          >Nellie Bly was an American journalist, who was widely known for [...] an exposé in which she worked undercover to report on a mental institution from within.
          >Once admitted to the asylum, Bly abandoned any pretense at mental illness and began to behave as she would normally. The hospital staff seemed unaware that she was no longer "insane" and instead began to report her ordinary actions as symptoms of her illness. Even her pleas to be released were interpreted as further signs of mental illness. Speaking with her fellow patients, Bly was convinced that some were as "sane" as she was.
          >"I left the insane ward with pleasure and regret–pleasure that I was once more able to enjoy the free breath of heaven; regret that I could not have brought with me some of the unfortunate women who lived and suffered with me, and who, I am convinced, are just as sane as I was and am now myself."

              >any attitude you have is sign of a metal issue.
My point exactly. Thus, if one cannot objectively prove if something is, or isn't.
You cannot build an institution around it.

              >I'm betting they can't.
And you would be right. See the Rosenhan experiment.

as expected. Most "mental illnesses" boil down to
              >I think you should behaving differently, and if you think otherwise, or think my assumptions should be checked, that only proves that I'm right AND OYU ARE MENTALLY ILL!
              In essence it's
              >I'm right and can declare anybody I want as wrong. If you question me or my judgement, then that just proves YOU ARE WRONG!
How anybody could accept this tier of logic, or reasoning, or proof as valid is beyond me.

I don’t know bong land but in America this is the downside of “not guilty by reason by insanity”, assuming this is basically equivalent there. Essentially when you plead that the downside is there is no minimum sentencing; the guideline is that you are held until you are adjudicated by a team of providers to be save to reintegrate to society. In theory this could be quick but in practice it never is because providers are terrified about liability concerns if they release you and you go on to murder someone or whatever.

When I worked in a psych hospital there were a handful of people there that were so fricking furious they had let their lawyers convince them to plead ngri. If they had just plead guilty to assault or whatever they would’ve done 5 years in prison and been done but bc of how they plead some of them had been in the hospital for literal decades. Although tbf some of them were allowed to step down to what’s called supported community rehabilitation which is basically a group home instead of a hospital. Still no privacy though, still not allowed to leave, still forced to take medication (and usually the heavy stuff, not just like Prozac but serious antipsychotics like Geodon, still not allowed to go anywhere without explicit permission and have to return within a narrow window or the cops will be called on you, etc

This. A mental diagnosis in this scenario is fricking terrible. What would be two years turns into twenty, where you have LESS rights than you would in prison, and you'll be force fed drugs and the like, and chances are, you'll be too old and damaged by forced medication to live a normal life, and you'll STILL not be able to land any job, even if they WOULD take your two decades old resume at this point, because it'll show up on a background check and they'll nope right the frick out.

You can't even say stuipid shit to commit unalive via gang or the like there, because they'll FORCE you and observe you 24/7 to prevent you from doing that. Avoid it at all costs.

Tbf tho this kid would actually have a shot at getting out in a reasonable timeframe bc hes just an autism kid with a non violent offense. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some financial and political pressure to frick him over given what he did

The ones we were terrified of clearing were schizophrenics w hx of violence bc even if you stabilize them with medication for years all it takes is for them to go home, separate from support network, stop taking meds, and they quickly become delusional again. Many such cases. Then they’re ticking timebombs and it’s a question of “are they gonna just kind of slap up their friend/family member and no one will care” or “are they gonna go stab someone and get busted for felony assault” or the one that terrifies every American doctor and therapist: “are they gonna get their hands on a few guns and shoot up a bowling alley or whatever”. You better fricking believe there will be civil suits, potential criminal charges, maybe loss of licensure, media exposure, etc if you sent them home if that shit happens. Your career is done, you’re done, time to retire and go live in the mountains chopping firewood

UK justice system is mostly a joke.

First of all, he did not get "life" in prison. He got an indefinite hospital stay. Which means they will keep him as long as they need to but not any longer. Which in reality means he'll be out in a few years.

You see, a bit problem in the UK right now is everything is seriously underfunded (or more accurately, there are simply too many immigrants in the country and the systems weren't designed to support this many people). Including hospitals and prisons.
One of the genius ways they tried to remedy this is to make prison sentences shorter. So most prison sentences in the UK are just automatically halved now for no apparent reason, and this can be further reduced by good behaviour and other shit.

Given this guy wasn't convicted of a violent crime and isn't a danger to anyone, he'll almost certainly be out in a few years.

Immigration (in the UK at least) makes a line on a graph go up, which makes the government look good and during election time they like to point to this graph and say "look how good we did!".
The reality however is immigration is a net drain on the country. Something like 80-90% of immigrants don't actually work in the UK.

Another big problem is the UK is an absolute bureaucratic nightmare. This means things do not get built very fast, if at all. This means there isn't enough houses, hospitals, schools, prisons, police/fire stations and even power stations (no really, in one part of the country they cannot build anything else due to the power grid simply lacking capacity).
Obviously if you keep inviting immigrants into the country these problems all get worse and worse.

Ill make it simple for you. The people letting in the immigrants are doing so because they're getting generous gifts from large companies that want to keep wages low and prices high. So the country is being flooded with immigrants, those companies are making big profits and fat stacks are having to be spent to keep the infrastructure from collapsing. The result is GDP goes up and those same politicians on the take can now claim that they're the candidate best suited to solve all the problems they created, by spending more tax money on their friends.

The UK has way too much bureaucracy when it comes to getting new shit done. So it ends up expensive as frick, often gets delayed and almost always never ends up being what was promised. HS2 is a good example. It's basically one of the most expensive railway lines in the world despite providing no actual benefit at all.

It doesn't help that politicians in the UK don't really care about fixing shit, only about their own career. So it's rare for them to agree to some plan that may take 10-20 years but help massively, because they're unlikely to benefit from it personally.
A good example is nuclear power plants. Someone asked the government 20 years ago why they're not building more nuclear power plants, and the response was "it would take 10 years and wont help us now". 10 years later they were again asked why they're not building them, and they again said "it will take 10 years anyway so it wont help us now". They were again asked 10 years later and their response was again "how will this help us now?".

The UK is a fricking joke and corrupt clowns run it.

About 28% of the prison population in the UK are an ethnic minority. These same people make up like 18-19% of the population.
Additionally, if you look at it based on country of origin, 13% of the UKs prison population are Albanian, 8% are Polish, 8% Romanian, 6% Irish and 4% Latvian.
These are all considered white countries in the UK and make up a large chunk of that 72% of white people in Prison in the UK.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_prison_population

            Anonymous

Whoops, my mistake on the second part. 28% of people in prison are an ethnic minority, and 12% are literal foreigners. That is at minimum 40% of the prison population being of non-British ancestry.
But the statistics do not accurately track white immigrants with British citizenship. And someone from Poland and Romania is like 400+% more likely to be in prison than a native British person.

The NHS going private would unironically save it though. Quality of service at the NHS is at an all time low while all of the best hospitals in the world are private.

If their plan is to sell it, they're doing an absolute shit job.

Anyway, I suggest one day you actually try and use the NHS. I've been in an out of hospitals, up and down the country, from London to Newcastle. All of them have been absolutely horribly run, are full of immigrants and usually the quality of treatment is fricking dreadful.
I go exclusively private now because the opposite of everything I just said about the NHS is true.

How about not defunding it in the first place? Then the quality wouldn't suck.

            >defund public industry

The NHS isn't being defunded though? It literally receives more funding than it ever has, and this happens every year. And before you say "muh inflation", this funding almost always exceeds inflation except in those few years where inflation goes insane like it did recently.

              Riddle me this.
How is the NHS so fricking underfunded when it both receives more funding than ever, and the native British population has a sub replacement birth level? It has more money, and there are less British people. So how the frick does it lack money exactly?

The cyberpunk corpo dystopia in videogames is a nicer place to live than modern dystopian reality

20 years ago if a cyberpunk game had someone rotting in prison for the rest of their life for hacking and releasing a videogame announcement trailer early while literal rapists, child molesters, and murderers are getting out of prison in under 10 years and often not even getting jail time but commuted sentences because they belong to a non-white ethnicity, you'd have been seen as a crackpot satirist (at best) who is completely divorced from reality.

Maybe 20 years ago this was true. These days the UK is largely lawless (except on Twitter) because the police are so understaffed and funded they can't really waste time catching real criminals.
Unless the crime is in the media and a big case, most of the time the police wont do shit about it because they spend more time on twitter, arresting people for saying immigration bad.

        >No such luck in a mental hospital.
I'll take the bait and give you a response from the real world.
The ultimate goal of clients in mental health hospitals is to provide treatment and develop a care plan to get them back into the community. The reasons you will stay with a hospital based treatment order is if it is not safe for either yourself or those in public.
As long as the kid improves the goal will be to move him back into the community with the support of those around him and social work.
If he is convicted of crimes, it is still similar. He will receive support for the years he is sentenced for with treatment/care plans in place while he is serving whichever type of sentence he is given and plans in place for when he is released. Since he will still be under the mental health legislations, there will be supports in place. Should things escalate; for example violent outbursts, he can be detained again in hospital under the mental health act. A tribunal will then take place to decide what happens next.

Does anybody remember those dystopian greentexts from ~10 years ago that were fairly common, that were like

    >wake up in bongistan
    >witness a towelhead screaming ALLAH HU AKBHAR while stabbing an old lady to death
    >say "God Save The Queen"
    >get sentenced to life in prison for being islamophobic and misgendering

or some shit. You can't even do that nowadays. It's not possible to come up with a satirical greentext for living in the west, because somewhere that exact scenario played out, was documented and reported in the news, and has a court case about it.

Doctors deemed Kurtaj unfit to stand trial due to his acute autism so the jury was asked to determine whether or not he committed the alleged acts - not if he did so with criminal intent.

A mental health assessment used as part of the sentencing hearing said he "continued to express the intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated."

The jury was told that while he was on bail for hacking Nvidia and BT/EE and in police protection at a Travelodge hotel, he continued hacking and carried out his most infamous hack.

Despite having his laptop confiscated, Kurtaj managed to breach Rockstar, the company behind GTA, using an Amazon Firestick, his hotel TV and a mobile phone.

Kurtaj stole 90 clips of the unreleased and hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6.

He broke into the company's internal Slack messaging system to declare "if Rockstar does not contact me on Telegram within 24 hours I will start releasing the source code".

He then posted the clips and source code on a forum under the username TeaPotUberHacker.

He was re-arrested and detained until his trial.

I know it seems rational and logical to pursue normie things for their benefits but sometimes what motivates people has absolutely nothing to do with normie things and even if you recognise how beneficial it would be to re-purpose it, you can't actually do so. The feeling, the motivation utterly dies. It's just not the same thing. I've tried re-purposing it into things for a job and you know what happened? It fricking vanished. Like, I can't even be assed to do it anymore and when I try I hate it.

  118. 5 months ago

A corporation like Take Two provides far, far more value to society than some random guy. Comparing leaking corporate secrets to murder sounds unfair, but you can't murder (or rape) a corporation, so these kinds of digressions that hurt the value of an enormously useful pillar of the West should be treaty with similar severity.
Additionally, when the guys who get stabbed and then the killer is let go, the person who got killed is probably a negative on society. They're usually some brown guy on a street corner who's addicted to drugs, has a serious mental disorder and spends 24 hours a day, 7 days a week making bus stops and parks unusable. Letting their killer go loose is a good thing because they'll probably take out another one. It sounds counter-intuitive but really the system as it is will only improve society, the only issue is public opinion slowing down the process.

GTA is Bongland's #1 export. Which is why they called him a threat to the public. If he leaked any more clips he might've tanked the economy over there.

Some people are missing some important info. The sentence takes into account there are more victims than just rockstar games. Also, he is violent. He has DOZENS of reports of violence while he has been in custody. He’s a danger to himself and the community.

And this isn’t a life sentence, it’s an indefinite one. Meaning if he takes his treatment seriously, and internalizes his actions, and changes his life/attitude, he could be let out in just a couple of years possibly.

It's disgusting blackmail and the parents of this kid would be justified in killing government officials.

        >He doesn't deserve life, but its obvious he's going to keep hacking
He's not getting life in prison. Fricktards need to learn to read the actual articles instead of falling for clickbait headlines.
Dude was found unfit to stand trial due to being so fricking autistic he's incapable of understanding why the shit he's doing is illegal and was sent to a secure mental hospital. Shit with those places isn't like jail. It's not like you're sentenced to 2 years in a psych unit or sentenced to 30 therapy sessions. You're there until the doctors say you're mentally unfricked enough to be released. It's "life in a secure hospital" in that if he's only actually going to be in there for life if he never gets mentally unfricked.

          >I trust the media golems

One of the worst prisons ever devised where your term and stay is determined by what the doctors are feeling that day.

Mental asylum which is even worse than prison. The doctors can just say "lmao no" and never have him released.

          >Mental asylum which is even worse than prison. The doctors can just say "lmao no" and never have him released.
i used to work in a similar institute and had to quit because I'd have nightmares of being a patient there.
you'd be surprised how easily mostly rational people end up in those places.

      Anonymous

The reason he's getting life in a mental hospital is basically because he's a sperglord who kept fighting guards, damaging shit, and insisting that he was going to go back to hacking shit once he gets out, plus he hacked Rockstar while he was out on bail and in police custody. Combine that with the fact that his autism power level is so high he's been deemed unfit to stand trial and you're not left with a whole lot of options. Dude's mentally unstable, violent, and expressed intent to commit the same exact crimes he was previously arrested for as soon as he gets out (and he's got the track record to back it up). If he's just going to keep commiting the same crimes over and over again the very moment he's even so much as released on bail, why even bother letting him out at all?

You ever been in an asylum before? Sorry I mean, have you ever been in a nut house before? I know a guy who had a mental break, stripped naked in the middle of the night and tried to swim across the sacramento river. Ended up in a psyche ward for a couple weeks. You don't even get slippers or shoes anymore they give you socks with those little rubber dots on the bottom for grip and the rooms are all shared, usually with somebody worse off than you, which only makes everybody worse.

Yeah, twice for attempted suicide. Both times were pretty cozy. Mostly sat around reading, playing board games and card games with other patients, attended group therapies periodically, and on Fridays we got to watch movies in one of the group rooms (even got popcorn). Shit was actually pretty comfy. Food kind of sucked though, especially the brownies they sometimes gave us for dessert. Those things were so rock hard you probably could have grinded them into a pretty deadly shiv.

The funny thing is, in this case this is almost literally true. Rockstar is basically funded by the British tax payer. The amount of money they've received from the British government is enough to basically buy every British person a copy of GTA 6 (those that would play it).
Rockstar literally do not pay taxes and receive huge amounts of money through various government grants and schemes.
