I strongly recommend you reconsider. The bonus 30 skill points are bitch to get for Proph characters, and it takes foreverto hit level 20 compared to the other 2. Nightfall is the best for new characters since you get heroes right away
GW1 is still really fun, even if playing with Heroes is incredibly overwhelming at the start and then gets a bit boring once you set up the cookie cutter builds
Mesmer is very strong and, compared to other classes has several builds that range from decent to meta: try out stuff by yourself before checking builds, like a card game some of the magic will be sucked out once you see what's actually good from guides and the like. At least experimenting with Mesmer is fun, some classes like Paragon have half a dozen decent skills, two real builds, and no pants.
Like mentioned you could make a Mesmer in the other two campaigns too to do everything on one character, if you want to then go back and do Prophecies later: you unlock that campaign after 5-6 hours of Factions/Nightfall, and those have a much better first player experience.
Idk man. I'd say that you haven't experienced Guild wars if your first experience of it wasn't the prophecies tutorial. It's legendary.
That said, I never played (or bought) nightfall so I don't know how it compares.

I'm mainly just thinking that the story of surviving the Searing as an Ascalonian and everything and meeting characters like Gwen who I know re-appear later is more important than having the most optimal character. I think the idea of having a Canthan or something just randomly show up in Ascalon literally the day it blows up is just a bit too goofy
Ranger is pretty based for a first character if you like collecting pets. All the classes are quite nice and flavorful though. For the real 2000s experience you have to play Warrior/Monk.
GW1 is dead but Mesmer was a based class, especially in PvP where you would manipulate people into killing themselves. I still remember backfire and empathy spells.
No, the official servers are still up and running. It costs little to no resources to keep Guild Wars up, as long as ArenaNet is successful. For example: it use more processing power to run the chat function of World of Warcraft than it does to run the entire game of Guild Wars.
You can complete the entire game with Heroes. Probably Mercs too but much harder, of course. You'll get Heroes however mostly during Nightfall. As always, if you want/need help, post in our thread and join the guild.
>it use more processing power to run the chat function of World of Warcraft
I always see this meme getting thrown around, but never any facts to back it up.
Not saying that GW1 isn't optimized, because if the servers are as optimized as the client is, then it's no wonder they say it consumes little to no power, but to say it consumes less than a chat service is kind of bogus.
That's fair. I tend to believe it because the head dude of GW also coded battle.net which was another technological feat. I couldn't find anything from a quick search but I did find the following 2013 quote: >"The game itself was so efficient on the server side in terms of the resources, like, it runs on a fraction of the hardware that we need for running Guild Wars 2, so having that on the back-burner is nothing compared to GW2."
So there's at least some confirmation that GW runs on little. There's more discussion about the way they store info on the specific types of server they use.
Anet did an AMA a while ago, and they said GW1's servers are so cheap to run that they don't even consider them when making a budget. They'll just leave them on as long as someone's there.
You can have 7 heroes in your team now, but mercenaries are very good to have unless you can beat WoC in hard mode, since that's the only way to have 2 rits and 3 memser heroes
I'm saying you'd have to complete WoC in addition to everything else for 3 mesmers and 2 rits. I did it with my main and there's no fucking way I'd ever do that again

>I'm saying you'd have to complete WoC in addition to everything else for 3 mesmers
Where are you getting this magical extra Mesmer from WoC from? We've already established that you are able to go into WoC with three Mesmers right from the start. You don't have to clear WoC to get an extra Mesmer Hero. At this point, I have no idea what point you're trying to make.

You get an extra rit hero from competing WoC and you can talk to Razah to make a mesmer. That is how you get the third mesmer hero without busting out a credit card.

Razah is from Nightfall, dude.

You need NF for most of the heroes. We're talking about the heroes, and I assumed anyone playing GW1 today has all the campaigns

There is no "we" here. Your original claim seems to have been that you HAVE TO complete Winds of Change HM in order to unlock Razah, in order to have a third Mesmer Hero.
You DO NOT need to complete WoC to unlock Razah. What part of "Razah has NOTHING TO DO WITH WINDS OF CHANGE" do you not understand? Are you being obtuse on purpose?

I said you have to complete WoC in order to have 3 mesmer heroes and 2 rits. Count em >Norgu and Razah from NF >Xandra and Gwen from Eotn >Zei ri from WoC in hard mode
If you want to argue semantics, go for it, but I'm done

Yeah, no shit. Mesmers have nothing to do with WoC.

OK, dipshit. Before you complete WoC, you can have >2 mesmers and 2 rits
Or >3 mesmers and 1 rit
The ideal set up is a 3/2 split, but you can't do that without Zei Ri or mercs. I was pointing that out for other anons. Good fucking lord, you are dumb.
Best part about gw1 right now is all the meta fagging is completely gone leaving you free to build however the fuck you want, not that you couldn’t anyway but you know how it goes
I made a knock lock hammer smite warrior/monk and cleared all the campaigns with it
Bro the whole world literally got raped in gw1
There wasn’t an army of ascalonians left to reclaim anything as anyone who stayed with Adelbern were slowly whittled down and perished and most everyone who went with rurik either ended up wiping to dwarves or were slaughtered by undead. Ascalon settlement is literally the last of the ascalonian presence and Krytans are too far up their own ass to give half a shit about ascalon to send any sort of relief/army campaign against the charr not that they even could between the white mantle butt fucking the power balance and the undead ravaging the entire coastline
Even the norns didn’t give the first shit about ascalon and decided to let the charr march through the shiverpeaks just because the norn knew a fight with the charr would stalemate since they were equals in strength at the time.
Even the bulk of the charr army was sunk with Orr leaving pretty much the blood legion left to hold any of the lands that were claimed in the searing
Besides ascalon barely belongs to the charr in nugw because the ghosts of ascalon are cursed to fight forever even against other humans who they don’t recognize as human
Ascalon is forever finished
Smite monks absolutely decimate undead targets
W/Mo is a very common combination
There’s even a smite monk henchman by that point in the game so you should find a way through
A great game, that is not the same as it once was. You can't experience it "for real" anymore.
Mesmer is the most OP class if you know what you're doing. You can play through the whole game solo nowadays, but there are dudes on Ganker I think.
What's a good profession and multiclass for someone who might want to play it a bit for some that era's nostalgia? The Ritualist and Dervish peak my interests the most.
Yeah, their background had lore. Necromancers for example were worshipers of Grenth. Operating within the limits he allows, not like usual based necromancers who do whatever they want
Derv before the Flash enchantment change was fun, even if everyone used the same build.
I started playing back when I was 13 and was total trash. My first character was a ranger/ele that spammed fire and lightning spells.
I had a lot of fun with my Necro/Rit. Makes for a good minion master/ spirit spammer. Maybe you'll like it too.
Makes me miss doing UW runs with my guildmates already.
>The little bits of green and blue in the sky with great contrast
Man, I wish we could get modern high poly models with this type of lighting and texturing
>What am I in for?
I like the aesthetics of Cantha. Not the first zone on the island, that was boring. Once you reach the mainland, you get to walk through a densely packed urban Chinese city that is wrecked by plague and poverty and constant overcast, and then you get to walk across a sea that was turned into jade with all of these sea creatures frozen in the jade and being quarried. And then you get to walk through a petrified forest with stone trees that have been turned into castles by gothic vampires. I think the last part of Nightfall had a cool looking map, but I never got that far.
Otherwise, GW1 isn't anything to write home about. I guess I did like one of the Nightfall battle themes, but that was it. https://youtu.be/Pc3HRywEYBw
I just had PTSD from this pic because I now remember escort quests in Cantha. I love GW1 but game had worst escort quests I ever saw, NPC's had goal to kill themselves at all cost, it was quite hard doing them solo as warrior.
Mesmer is a really good class, but difficult to play. Rit is probably the best class.
I can't play Rit because I want 1 character to go through all the content with and so gotta start in Ascalon since I think it happens earliest
I strongly recommend you reconsider. The bonus 30 skill points are bitch to get for Proph characters, and it takes foreverto hit level 20 compared to the other 2. Nightfall is the best for new characters since you get heroes right away

Based, you better get the lvl 20 title before leaving the tutorial.
A good game from a bygone era. Mesmer is one of the most powerful classes. Enjoy, king.
Before this thread 404s, check out the GW thread on Wrong board, and especially drop your IGN so we can get you a guild invite.
mam this was a really fun game but didn't they shut the servers down? I don't think it's possible to beat with the mercenaries

I may have misremembered and it may be that GW runs less than the entire chat function of GW2, not WoW.

What? You can run three Me/ without completing WoC. Miku is an Assassin, not a Mesmer. (Obviously ignoring Zei Ri the Ritualist.)
>Gwen
>Norgu
>Razah as a mes
>Xandra
Unless I'm forgetting someone, that's it. You'd need Zei, and fuck doing that on every character
But you don't get Gwen, Norgu, or Razah from WoC, and those are your three Mesmers already. Hell, I solo'd WoC HM with three Mesmers.
Well, three Mesmers plus the rest of my Hero team, of course.
I'm saying you'd have to complete WoC in addition to everything else for 3 mesmers and 2 rits. I did it with my main and there's no fucking way I'd ever do that again

Ashford Village... home
Wait, is that how it looked?
Wasn't the stones weirdly disjointed?
Jeremy Soule made such good music, too bad he got me too'd
I hate that Ascalon was never reclaimed and rebuilt, but the fact they made Kryta suddenly white from just the refugees in gw2 is hilarious.
Bro the whole world literally got raped in gw1

Henchmen are available to everyone at outpost. Heroes are an entirely separate entity.

Memories.

GW1 Necromancer is fun.
Suicide necro bombers will forever be my favorite anti pvp build
Too much fun in jade quarry
I just don't like their lore
GW1 classes had lore?
Yeah, their background had lore. Necromancers for example were worshipers of Grenth. Operating within the limits he allows, not like usual based necromancers who do whatever they want

I can't think of one game where an escort NPC wasn't trying to actively die
Nightfall is my favourite
Such a great aesthetic and Dervishes are the best class I've played in any MMO
Man do I wish Guild Wars 2 was more like that. They dumbed it down so bad.
