I don't think we know exactly how it'll work yet, just that players that already have accounts can't link those with steam (though you can launch any executable through steam already so it's not like that actually matters).

youll miss out on some classes, gear that modifies your skills in certain ways and you get no mount skins or the ability to glide, as well as some story stuff and the expansion areas to play in.

If you ever want a comfortable grind or lack "content" (fractals and raids in this game are surprisingly good) then I invite you to craft a legendary weapon of your choice, getting world completion and dipping your toes in pvp for it really gives you a lot to do and by the end of it you'll have really experienced the real gw2
I crafted two legendaries, twilight and sunrise, and the SW and assorted communities I met while I farmed materials surprised me, hell one guy even gave me 100 gold for ectos, really fun challenge

it didn't have a trinity because it didn't have anything complex. Whatever those original zones were - dungeons? Everything was just a sponge to clobber. Same with Fractals. Finally raids were added, but ended up being so demanding that metas started to form. While there are a good amount of ways to build your class, you're very restricted in a game that otherwise prides itself on options
