Keeping GW1 alive apparently costs about as much as a single GW2 server.

              Anonymous

The entirety of GW1 takes about as much as the chat server of GW2. The devs have said that GW1 will always be up as long as GW2 is running; GW1 costs so little that they don't even factor it into the budget. Their last update, in February, specifically mentioned six years of uninterrupted service--no downtime.

It's crazy how good Shing Jea is compared to the rest of the campaign. I was playing guild wars in release order with a buddy who had only played gw2, and we dropped the game a couple of missions after making it to kaineng. We made it through all of prophecies without any hiccups. We also tried going through nightfall afterwards but we dropped that after a couple of play sessions too.

Kaineng is a dreary environment but personally I've always loved the zombie apocalypse meatgrinder missions and the sewers. 16-man Vizunah square is glorious carnage. It's all worth it for the Jade Sea anyway.

It might just be cause of him. Honestly I can't say I necessarily hated it when I played solo. I mainly had trouble with the afflicted condition that would just kill me if I wasn't paying attention to where I was standing.
For me, going to level 20 in pre-searing made it more enjoyable to experience the rest of the story. Would've kept my character as a perma-pre, but it was actually the one I made to play with my friend. I just had to wait for him for so long that I managed to hit 20 with some fairly casual play.

kaineng is supposed to be claustrophobic and ugly so you break out into the back half of the game and go from sewers and shantytowns to beautiful forests and seas
      give it another shot

      Kaineng has its moments
The worst places are the middle of the city on ground floor and the sewers
The whole zone around the docks by the market outpost is kino, the whole zone on the roofs of the city by senju's corner is kino, the whole "transitional zone" between the sewers and the city's gate is kino

NCsoft is Korean and most likely forced them to make it Korean or they wouldn't allow Cantha at all. The Canthan district in Divinity's Reach famously got scrapped before launch (hence the Great Collapse) because people (read: NCsoft) thought mixing East Asian cultures together like in the original Cantha was offensive. Nobody hates East Asians more than other East Asians.

GW1, EotN excluded, gave me the comfiest MMO experience to date, but I can't go back anymore - player-world interaction is extremely dated, especially in terms of UI features like a complete lack of armor/weapon preview.

He's Rytlock. He used to be a member of the Destiny's Edge guild before the human of the guild, Logan (descendant of Gwen), fricked up their chance to kill the crystal dragon by running off mid-battle to save his queen, who didn't even need his help because she's an ultra mesmer. Rytlock's mostly just a generic charr officer who carries around Prince Rurik's sword. He ends up falling into the mists and becoming sort of a spirit channeler (hence the blindfold) and incidentally frees Balthazar from the "Too based to be free" cage the other gods had put him in.
Unfortunately he gets a lot more lame when he meets some pussy druid charr bumpkins who have families and he starts feeling bad about not being a real family with his b***h and his son.

How long is the game gonna be on sale? Been trying to buy the complete collection all day, it just gives an error saying my purchase has been prevented and support hasn't answered yet.

Haven't played this since like 2003, did they change anything since the original? Like adding the NPC party and stuff? I don't remember a single thing about it so I wouldn't know

What I meant is I tried playing it again today and I don't ever remember there being NPC parties in it, I figured it was added sometime in the last 20 years kek.

So how exactly do campaigns work? Can I play all the content with one character or are there any restrictions?

You miss out the prologues from other campaigns but you can jump in to continue past it.

You can do everything except the starter areas with any character. Once you get to the main city for each campaign you can go to the others.

So "play the prologue on three different characters->play the rest of the campaign on the character I want"?
        What about being overleveled?

Levels don't mean shit in GW1. Cap is 20 and you'll reach it REAL fast.

Only really an issue for prophicies since you should be max level with max armor by the time you get access to other campaigns in factions and nightfall.

not really a "100% stick with your main" kinda game. like half the fun is experimenting with your profession's skills and adjusting your build for an area
play through a campaign as a caster or a melee and you'll have very different experiences

in guild wars level 20 is max level, and you don't just keep perpetually leveling up and power creeping
factions and nightfall have tutorial islands that you start on, once you finish the island you move on to the main story. characters from other campaigns come over at the end of the island, they can go back and explore, do a couple missions, but they can't do quests there. the rest of the game expects you to be level 20 at that point, and for the rest of the game
prophecies levels you much more slowly by having lower xp rewards. it has a starter area you irreversibly leave, then you do 7 missions and some quests, then you hit the port of Lion's Arch, where characters from other campaigns come in. however, you aren't expected to be level 20 at this point, and can play like >50% of the game before hitting max level, compared to 20% for the other campaigns
if you want to be on-level, you can play a prophecies character first, and take them to the other continents after they max. you can also toggle on a hard-mode after you beat each campaign, that will make enemies in every zone difficult

Chiyo, beast of a build for being a henchie and carried my ass through Kaineng over 15 years ago. And she's cute. Honorary mention to Cynn for being the best class.
      >favorite enemy
If we count special enemies, Kanaxai because he's badass. For generic enemies probably Charr, just because they're so satisfying to slaughter. Afflicted too, because exploding zombies are fun.
      >favorite mini pet
      Baby Black Moa
