GW2 sounded hype at the time. It just underdelivered hard. The dynamic event system sounded very interesting. Then it ended up being a soulless gimmick. There were like 3-4 interesting dynamic events of like 500.
yeah
also the combat sounded like it would be fun if they had some gw1 style skill selection, but in reality you are just hitting everything on cd when it comes up (in pve)
i remember this podcast after/during the beta and before the game released, some old guy and some young guy, and the young guy was ridiculing gw1 as 'just hitting buttons off cooldown' while gw2 is masterful strategic etc and it was mind boggling. i wish i had decided to save it at that time.
The real problem was how quickly events reset >do event chain to save village >rest and sort inventory for ten minutes >by the time youre done the village is under attack again
the rapid-fireness really ruined their mantra of feeling like you made a difference in the world
Yeah the first event in the game you can hear other people fighting the boss you're about to fight just before you get there, it's just a really unimmersive game.
I haven't played these games, but I remember one of the fat women writers for GW2 bragging about how she never played or read any of the material from GW1.
the game is completely dead. I was looking for information about the wizard tower expansion, and besides the official sources and like one other guy, there was nobody talking about it. shit didn't even look interesting. it's like they expected you to pay $30 for a living world update you would have gotten for free during Season 3.
The new expansion is definitely shit. I don't even care about the price, the content is just not as good. Every single story mission in the new expansion is just running around on the zone maps, fighting enemies that randomly spawn in, listening to NPCs talk, repeat. In old GW2 content there were a ton of story missions with unique maps and gameplay mechanics. There isn't a single one in SotO
>there is now a lack of story in GW2
how is this not a good thing?

There is a lot of story but instead of playing you sit there and listen to NPCs talk. Enemies randomly spawn and interrupt them all the time. The same exact enemies over and over.

>There is a lot of story but instead of playing you sit there and listen to NPCs talk
I only played up to living world 2 but that's exactly how all the story in this game is delivered

It really isn't. The old story missions had tons of rooms and environments that you only went to during the story missions. They had puzzles and platforming and unique mechanics. The story missions in SotO just take place on the overworld map. They didn't create a single area exclusively for the story. I can only think of a single story mission in the new expansion that had anything interesting (It took place in the main city and you had to collect things to unlock a portal or something)
From what I understand, aside from the big guns of xiv and wow, the MMOs that surprisingly enough actually still have players are ESO, GW2, BDO and DQX. Apparently Lost Ark numbers are mostly bots so it doesn't count.

Mix of both
I'm 100% biased in favor of GW because my favorite teenage gaming memories belong to it, and I just hate how "cynical" GW2 turned out to be as a product which only fuels my bitterness
But you also can't deny GW1 really was its own thing and appeared at the right time, before FOMO, gambling and micro-transactions became king in online gaming

Who said otherwise? No one was complaining GW1 to be a current MMO
I would try RuneScape, but the sub fee is fricking insane. Why would I pay $11 a month to play an old game when I can just play FF14 for $2 more? Maybe if it was like $5 a month... The only people playing RuneScape at this point are people hopelessly addicted, because no rational person would pay that much.

You don't even need one
If you want to play a pure Rit build, just use A so you can bring Dash and/or Shadow Refuge
If you're a memer you can take R and play the spirit strength bow build
It's a dumb un-optimal but working build
12+4 spawning power, 12+X channeling magic, anniversary spawning power req flatbow
Nightmare weapon for bosses / heavily armored single targets, splinter weapon against groups, bloodsong + spirit siphon to manage energy
You can move some skills around if you want to make it better (you don't need the spirit and spirit siphon if you have a BiP hero and know how to manage it but I'm too lazy and I like being self-sufficient)
>not taking lacerate, toxicity, and pestilence along with barbed signet, rotting flesh and signet of agony
A real necro should be miserable to have around no matter which team he is on.
Guess I have no worries then. I provided creation date, password history, gw2 cd key, birthdate and the names of 5 fricking accounts as well as the last login date
You can't go wrong as W/A for general gameplay
G/D is nice too if you want to run some meme scythe build
Starting secondary for warrior shouldn't matter too much besides maybe /A for shadowsteps or I guess /mo or /rt if you want a soft rezz, though usually warriors don't bother with that.
W/A it is. Gonna be a while though since I want to start with prophecies and try and solo play through story with npcs.

second time I buy the game again with all expansions play through the base game and eye of the north, have to go abroad for work come back months later, account blocked again and have to provide receipt number and all for them to deblock.
at this point Im suspecting a scheme from these israelites to make the three people on earth still playing it buying the game several times

>you've clearly not played in a long time
That's true enough but lets see
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_heavy_armor
There's nothing which compares to this Warrior armor, same goes for Medium armor. Also look at Elementalist in GW1.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Elementalist_armor
Every other set is competing for who can have the shortest miniskirt, I don't think GW2 even has a single miniskirt from what I remember even though Light armour in GW2 does have a few semi-revealing sets
Neither of those have cleavage, all 3 of my examples do, yours are also full plates, not bikinis. It's not a bad effort if I'm wrong and there's plenty of things like that please correct me and link a few more, I'd love to be proven wrong. I'm not against giving GW2 a go in the future, I've looked at it now and then but just haven't made that leap
Now post the tattoo skin, the leather version of this, and the light fire armor set for the grand total of 4 skins in GW2 where you can see your character's navel.
GW2's designers purposefully made the game as unsexy as possible.
this is why I will never come back to GW2
this shit isn't a fantasy game anymore
I already thought the lunar new year dragon amsks and chaos gloves looked silly in GW1, but this is nightmarish
even fricking worse they b***hed that sexy female armor wont fit the setting and muh fantasy so wont add them but get rainbows and other gay shit all over the place
They have to look bad so that you can identify players that are so shit that they had to spend 50 times as long farming overworld content than it would have taken to get the PvP, WvW, or Raiding legendary armor.
To be fricking fair, most GW1 FoW armors were also ugly as shit and I never understood WHY people wasted all their cash on it
At least vabbian armors looked rich on top of being a status symbol
I remember always getting FoW chestpiece on my GW1 monks, it stood out because of the boob window and Egyptian look, paired well with a lot of parts. I don't think I'd even get it if I played GW2

They weren't all that ugly, often they stood out in some way but I made use of at least a part or two on most of my characters. every thread, every time, the same seething
>Play RA >never get a monk >Fine I'll just do it >Load up RA as monk >Three monks on my team
I swear to God they did this shit on purpose it happened so consistently
Same, everytime I played RA I'd go against a team with a monk and I'd have 0 on my side and 99% of the time lose. Make my own monk and always end up with a bunch of monks and have 0 damage.
One time we had a 40+ min match because we had 2 monks and they had 2 monks and each side was too stubborn to lose.
When I used to play Return of Reckoning (Warhammer Online private server) every scenario I was in had next to no healers or dps healers all the time. When I rolled heal I'd always get matched with 2-3 other healers. Sometimes its so whack the entire scenario was made up of healers.l, its like as if the chaos gods were mocking me.
i once played shingjea RA with 2W2Mo and we got a winstreak of 76(?). at some point we just took off armor and were facing obviously the same people organizing different teams (no longer "R"A) but eventually they went to bed and there was no one to fight anymore. team of lvl 8/9 ended up as lvl 11/12.
I liked playing protection monk and healing rit in this game...but RA/pvp in general is now dead and healing brainless heroes who do a worse job at dps than I could is not fun
playing healer in gw1 was actual work and made a big deal if done wrong
playing healer in every other game after was basically not playing, no mental load at all, if i wasn't also being strategist or something else it was just boring
I played through it every few years and it's still as good as I remember it, usually I try to bring at least one real friend. The custom heroes you can get make it a lot more fun than the original henchmen
It's amazing they're still pushing Horizon so hard >THIS IS A FLAGSHIP FRANCHISE >AND YOU WILL LIKE IT AND LOVE ALLOY

Future caveman hunting robot dinos is such a fantastic concept for a single player game or MMO.
It's truly insane how they managed to frick it up as bad as they did and never improve with every subsequent release.
>the horizon mmo
That's fricking sad even after the shitheap that was gw2. That's almost as depressing as learning that most of the original team behind gw1 left anet to make state of decay for microsoft.
Probably because most people have played one specific mmo enough to became mazed. They might try others occasionally but they always go back to their first pimp.
not that i know of. the former director of GW2 left anet to work on one of amazon's games, it folded, and then anet hired him back as a "studio director" without explaining what that meant. i think it means he doesn't have a direct hand in GW2 development anymore but is likely overseeing the new game. which is fine by me as i don't care what happens to it. i never liked the reddit cult surrounding him (indeed, i think it's he who encouraged the early dev team to take their cues from the GW2 sub) and i think most of the egregious things that GW2 suffered in the early years were decisions that he made or happened on his watch. he was never good and just keeps failing upwards.

and all that ran 60 fps and dsmooth like butter on a mediocre pc on release. It was simply fricking epic. The pvp rocked my world for a full year. holy shit so much depth, so much fun.
GW2 is an embarassment and people who play this are fricking casual scum.
The fully customizable UI things gets me. Because all these years later and GW2 UI is still fricking locked down and you can't simple shit around. You have to use a TOS violating plugin just to move your boons to an area on your screen where it's easier to see. GW1 did it right.
GW2 should've used the same system as GW1 with the cities and the outside world, it made for such a difficult world to explore with tons of farming spot and run potential that would boost create unique ways economically. Also the skill set were much better in GW1, I would have loved for like 15spells available for you at the same times but with tons of them available.
Being limited to 8 spells in a bar is why the game was great. You had to strategize before you even entered a zone. Losing a spell to an interupt or disable is also a huge blowout when it's 1/8th of your skills
im gonna try it out after the account recovery goes through. i played gw2 during the release in summer 2012 and based on that the gameplay was too boring to keep me hooked, i went back to gw1 for several years after
Not at all, but the $50 sale price for the first 3 expansions and all living worlds is good value. There is a lot of content. Living world 3 and 4 are basically full expansions. IBS and Living world 2 together are probably the size of an expansion.
The only thing you don't get is the soto specific relics which probably doesn't matter unless you're doing end game group content and trying to make a META build... I don't know. I never really looked at which relics are exclusive and which ones aren't
I forgot to mention, that with the $50 pack you have access to this

still floating for now
I'm assuming anet doesn't publish active playercounts for gw2 like blizzard doesn't for wow, but if there are any non-biased active players, any guesses?
I don't think any MMO publishes those anymore so it's tough to say
I'm sure it's much smaller than WoW, XIV, ESO, and Runescape, but obviously it's bigger than the more niche games like Albion and EVE or games on life support like SWTOR
Because the brain-damaged boomers playing GW2 keep Anet afloat by themselves just buying every new outfit that releases on all of their many ERP accounts
It's in maintenence mode while they pretend it isn't by re-using assets for the new "expansion" (three "listen to bossvwoman talk" instances every quarter year).
>my headcannon is real
the only thing that nosedived was PvP, which ironically mirrors exactly what happened to GW1's PvP scene

I'm assuming anet doesn't publish active playercounts for gw2 like blizzard doesn't for wow, but if there are any non-biased active players, any guesses?

based on NCSoft's quarterly reports, Arenanet is one of their most solid performing studios that isn't gacha shit
I finished getting GWAMM last year, It was fun to revisit all the areas of the original game and even see a bunch of things off the beaten path I didn't know existed.
There's nothing to elaborate
Mesmers are OP as frick after their rework
Energy Surge deals vast AOE armor-ignoring damage, is cheap, casts fast, cooldowns fast, so the new meta is stacking as many E-surge mesmer to spam a constant barrage of armor-ignoring damage on big pack of mobs and wipe everything as fast as possible
generally speaking, the best pve skills in GW right now are mesmer skills, because they are high damage (armor ignoring) and have fast recharge (due to fast casting, the mesmer primary skill).
energy surge is the big one
panic is good too when you need caster shutdown
im not sure that skill has changed since i last played (over a decade ago), i guess it just becomes op when you can have 7 heroes cast the same spell one after another?
It did change a little bit, its energy cost was halved from 10 to 5 and its CD was reduced from 20 to 15s
they also made it aoe in the mesmer rework (along with a ton of other domination spells, like panic)
it being aoe is what really makes it busted, since it's instant single damage aoe it doesn't make mobs scatter, unlike basically every other aoe in the game like the ele ones.
Anonymous
since i havent played the game in such a long time i feel like both of those skills have always been aoe...at least in 2011

https://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Energy_Surge&oldid=31178
According to a 2007 wiki page, the skill was already AOE but it could only strip 8 energy points max against 10 now
generally speaking, the best pve skills in GW right now are mesmer skills, because they are high damage (armor ignoring) and have fast recharge (due to fast casting, the mesmer primary skill).
energy surge is the big one
panic is good too when you need caster shutdown
PvE mesmers shit damage, interrupts, and enchantment/hex removal. Just using the 3 mes heroes you get normally is enough to faceroll through everything short of hardmode elite areas with minimal changes to build or team comp.
Not really, I bought 1 so I could do the ULTRAMETA 4 Mesmer hero build and honestly it's unnecessary. It'd only be worth it if you want to, for fun, dick around with comp stacking classes. Meme shit like 7 Rangers etc.
I will never give up my Kole's Torment I got back in middle school running the tombs as an MM. I don't care that I hardly run blood magic I ain't changing.
it's completely different. it's kinda like playing DOTA in third person. you can't jump and you auto-move to your target to hit them. movement skills are either "you run faster" or "you teleport to/away from your target"
it's pretty antiquated in those terms. the game isn't fully 3D, you can't jump or even drop off a ledge. almost every action that isn't a shout or flash roots you.
There's no jump
There's literally no Z axis
You can melee a mob that's on top of a 20m high vertical tower while you're down on the ground as long as you're "close" enough horizontally
Guild Wars 2 is still pretty amazing with the additions and features. Even though the MMO formula is fricked in many ways (strangers do their quests and don't give a damn in communicating, chatting in hub areas, etc like 20 years ago).
If you play solo without a guild or friends, standard crew it gets depressing.
I fell asleep playing GW2. One of the least fun gaming experiences I've ever had. Played a lot of it too. Very odd experience though, because it felt like it should be fun, but it wasn't.
>see mesmer in pvp >try to cast a spell
interrupted >try to attack them
empathy/clumsiness >try to run away
slowed to a crawl >try doing nothing

What a great class.
mesmer in gw1 was fricking epic, the ultimate troll. in gw2 (at least at launch) it was just the illusionary weaponry skill + none of the interesting spells because all debuffs are generic shit. ruined the most interesting mmo class ever
Seriously though, what the frick were they thinking? They they really believe that old players would just eat up the "condition" builds in GW2? What a fricking joke.
i dont hear it mentioned often but gw2 opting for generic debuffs instead of unique conditions is the 2nd biggest mistake the game made, biggest being severely limiting skill choice (which i assume led to removing unique conditions)

there is nothing unique about conditions in GW1 and in many ways, you're just butthurt that GW2 used a different word for the same shit

Defile Flesh
Hex Spell. (5...29...35 seconds.) Reduces healing target foe receives by 33%. Only skills with the word "heal" in the description are affected.
Poison
Deals damage every second; decreases healing effectiveness by 33%; damage stacks intensity.
What's the GW2 equivalent of Unyielding Aura
healing bonuses are usually split by build, resurrection abilities vary by classes
something like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Battle_Standard
with buffs, and multi function is a good example
2 months ago

Defile Flesh just reduces healing, but for a very long period of time.
Poison is damage every second (which is objectively different from Health Degeneration), with a healing debuff.
Defile Flesh cannot be removed by curing conditions, Poison can.
Even if these two effects were in the same game together they would have different uses.
If you don't realize that, there's no helping you.

This homie didn't even read what Defile Flesh does. Defile Flesh doesn't cause HP Degeneration. It's a long duration hex that makes you take 33% less healing.
It's not a condition. It's a hex. Poison is a condition in Guild Wars 1. You would not be able to remove Defile Flesh with Condition Removal, you'd have to use Hex Removal.

Confusion works with everything, it's just a generalist, dumbed down version

And we also have backfire for magic stuff.

Yeah, when you go beyond the basic skills and into the niche shit, it's laughable how fricking backwards gw2. I hate that game

except conditions are pretty much the same in GW1 and 2. they have standard effects by definition. other debuffs are not condis. you are probably trying to reference hexes but those don't have unique removal options, they're taken out by any "remove hex" effect.
once again we have a rose goggles gay who doesn't even know how GW1 works.

so you concede that gw2 has no hexes but instead generic debuffs

only if you're talking about player skills. there are plenty of unique debuffs in GW2 that can't be removed at all. play the games before you try to talk about them.

>there are plenty of unique debuffs in GW2 that can't be removed at all
such as?
It really was, memeing on an ele with 100+ energy with aneurysm back in JQ was some of the funnest shit. Gw2 mes might still be one of the most diappointing things I've ever experienced. Especially, since the prerelease material made it sound like it such a fun idea with clones, invisibility, and blinks letting you outplay people. Instead it was just spam 3 clones and shatter them then mash your weapon skills until they died.
I meant casting it on a ele with over a 100 total energy. You would run up to them and cast energy surge/burn then pop their brain for over 200 damage if you were lucky.
Paragons if I remember correctly had a lot of their good motivation and command skills nerfed because of PvP back before they started doing separate balancing. So what could have been alternative builds like Motivation healing paragons got hamstrung by that.
Whenever I'm playing my para these days I just do a heroic refrain dagger spammer and only maintain the refrain on myself because doing it on the heroes is too much of a chore since they often move out of my shout range. Dagger spammer really is just the best way to play any class.
basically pointless to play now since its basically a support hero to buff others, going for full damage is not optimal and unless youre playing with friends buffing allies isnt exactly thrilling
that's because they focused on the roman/greek/mena part of Africa and not the other part
they actually made the people darker than they would be for those areas
Depends. They were pretty much always staple in GvG as far as I remember, but also locked into snare/blind botting and considered one of the easiest roles to play.
Fire Eles got kind of powerful when Mind Blast was buffed, I seem to remember an infamous two ele split strat in GvG that dominated pretty hard for a while.
I mean, that's going to be your best place to find anons to play through the game together, plus their current Proph group is only a handful of missions past pre-Sear.
We're going to get special stuff for the 20th anniversary, right?
More content, even. More stuff to do for us because it's so simple to develop for a still profitable game, right?
At least more skills or weapons?
Trust the plan.
The new head dev of GW1 has currently been playing through the game, starting with Prophecies; so yes, maybe something! There was a recent stream with one of the old head devs and he said that they regretted not supporting GW1 for longer than they did.
>There was a recent stream with one of the old head devs and he said that they regretted not supporting GW1 for longer than they did.
Got a link to that?
hmm
im not interested in playing bots and heroes but it occurs to me gw.exe could be fun to just have up as a chatroom. can't imagine it using more ram than discord or a modern browser.
GW2s whole "we killed the evil charr that nuked the lands but we're not relocating and you deserved it" angle drove me up the fricking wall. Charr themselves are dope but that was just silly
I have such fond memories of teenage me playing Factions while listening to the latest Breaking Benjamin album. Take me back for the love of Balthazar.
Remember when Guild Wars 2 devs said before launch that people shouldn't be upset at no skill builds because their main focus was going to be adding a huge armory of weapons?
And then they never added any new weapons?
To this day, how many weapons have they added to the game?
you can tell they wanted to get away from the rows of unique enchantments in gw1, which is why they made boons to condense generic damage stuff
but then creatively bankrupt designers don't know what to do long term and just add tons of garbage
Qrd? There's a sale? Is it only on ~~*steam*~~ or is it through the official site too? When does the sale end? Frick anons, seeing these threads makes me want to start playing again
there's a sale on the official site too. trilogy/eotn are $5, complete collection (which is trilogy + eotn) is $10
Frick, guess it's time to fall off the wagon again. This game was like heroine when I was a kid. Are anons going to organize a play through from the beginning? I never thought I'd see the day where I can do a campaign with 7 people again
>Are anons going to organize a play through from the beginning?
see
Reminder that [...] has a regular and active Guild Wars thread AND guild. Right now, some guys are running through the Prophecies campaign again (the guild has played through all three campaigns before + gets together to run dungeons sometimes.)
If you're an old player or want to be a new player, come to the thread and post your IGN for a guild invite. Lots of people to do stuff with.

You don't need one, just someone in your party does.
In fact, I'll be here for the next hour. If anyone needs a Proof of Legend to cap some skills, message Leon Skullsmacker or post your IGN here.
Just ask if somebody in kamadan or something has one and if they'd help you go get them. Only 1 person in the party needs to have it for the bosses to spawn.
I played that once before minions got a cap, people killing themselves, fast cast rezzers, necros summoning minions. Out first match was against IWAY and we just got destroyed, they were outhealing the minions and using cyclone axe, group disbanded after that and never got to play it again.
Rspike was the premium pug spike build. You only had to hit two buttons for the spike and the rest of the time you were just spamming dshot. The backline of course had it rough
I always just ran way of the assassin dagger spammer and organized whoever would join my party into a mess of generic pvp builds. We'd usually only win one or two matches before a real team showed up but still we managed to make it to the hall a few times despite having zero clue what we were doing.

That was my experience til r3, then the moment you had emote you could at least get into semi organized teams. Eventually people just knew I was decent and I could get into most groups under r10, even with a meager wolf
It and frenzy were the go to IAS for warrior. It's particularly good with enraging charge since it can cancel flail/IMS/gives adren on hit for flail to activate.
i love these sorts of things. the earlier guy asked about 'movement', one big thing gw1 did well was positioning. when you can't bounce off the walls at a whim and get rooted every time you do something, your position starts to matter. same with cast time.
i cant believe there are so many people arguing against gw2 statuses being generic. it doesnt make the game you like any less difficult or whatever, its just reality
Rumblings behind the scenes are making me think there's a nonzero chance Guild Wars 3 is being considered as a true successor to Guild Wars 1.
Not good, but also not impossible.
Not only is it massive fricking copium, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want current Anet to do ANYTHING regarding GW ever again unless you happen to enjoy the shitshow that is GW2
Don't get your hopes up we both know its just gonna be a shitty live service game with like 30 skills per class that all do almost the same thing. Do you want run a fire ele with 4 variations of flare or a ranger with 4 bow attacks that do the same damage?
Mmorpg. You can play it solo or with other people. It's only $10 anon, give it a try. If you want an endorsement, there's anons in this thread who even 20 years later still have this game living rent free in their heads
There's low. Very few are over 100g, except for the obvious like superior vigor. I think the only money is in a few specific insignias like the dervish enchantment one and the ritualist spirit one
But a lot of those skills make it seem like I can just summon anything after I kill it if it leaves a corpse
Are all the minions on a timer or something or is there a limit to how many I can have at once
Minions have an exponential decaying health, so they die quicker the longer they've been alive. The amount you can have at once is limited by your points in death magic. 10 at most realistically, 11 with gimmick buffs. Not everything leaves a corpse and minions themselves, aside from flesh golem, don't leave a corpse
do 1 (one) gift of the traveler
sell it for 10e
sell the e for platinum to a player
now you have more raw money than you will ever need for a long time as a new player
im not a new player, i just don't find farming fun at all. last time i played they had nerfed farm rates into oblivion and limited drops per zone by real world time or something nonsense. which would be whatever if i only have to fund myself but if i have to fund 12 heroes it's a big problem.
ive never done gift of traveler, how much plat does an ecto go for?
One ecto is maybe like 4 or 5k now I think. The farm nerf is just for spamming the same zone over and over. If you have different areas or characters to farm on you won't really be impacted. Rip to A/E sliver armor though, I'll miss you my queen.....

Their skills are whatever skills you've unlocked on your account. You can also get some sweet early ones for sunspear points which are free. Their armor just needs to be runed, otherwise it scales with level. They do fine with whatever random loot drop equipment works. This is not a grindy game anon, unless you want it to be
do 1 (one) gift of the traveler

I sort of did this back in 2006 during Factions. Warrior + flesh golem, used taste of death as a big nice heal. It was really kind of shit but I thought it was a good build and actually posted it to some forum and people thought it was cool.
But a lot of those skills make it seem like I can just summon anything after I kill it if it leaves a corpse
Are all the minions on a timer or something or is there a limit to how many I can have at once
Only flesh golem leaves a corpse to allow you to summon another. There's a cap based on your death magic and naturally minions decay and lose health overtime, you can use skills to keep them alive. But their health degeneration grows overtime until it caps at -20 health per second.
There's a limit to 10 (?) minions if I remember correctly
They also have natural health degen that ramps up over time until the point it's unsustainable, you have to constantly "refresh" your minions by resummoning again and again to "kill" your lowest health minion and replace it with a freshly summoned one which has minimal health degen
All of this takes so much energy that you have to do nothing else and you need a caster energy pool / energy regen, warriors have low energy pool and only 2 regen ticks
I remember seeing a video review of these expansions recently. I'm empty inside and could use something to pass the time. There's still a bunch of single player content and stuff to play right? I'm okay with dry repetitive content if it kind of feels like playing wow in BC
It's not dry or repetitive. The game also gets very challenging as it progresses. You can play single player, but it is infinitely better with other people. You should definitely try it anon and there are people in thread who would play with you, myself included
Speak for yourself my warrior never leaves town without his pet, asura summon, vanguard assassin, imperial guard reinforcements, and his 7 goons.
>warrior with 5 attunement runes and a casting sword
Kek
I wish that they gave more reasons to do quests, in Prophecies there were a bunch of skill quests that you could do to get free skills without having to buy them or get them way before you'd be able to buy them. Factions and Nightfall had really nothing like that besides Kurzick/Luxon faction or Sunspear/Lightbringer points. EOTN was better in giving some consumables or new PvE skills.
>missing EOTN >It's on steam for 5 bucks >but the complete edition is also on the GW store for 10 bucks
Frick it, I might buy a second account and start over...

Point to where they lied anywhere in that video.
every single thing in it, that they said they did not mean to do, they did. every single person knows this n00b.
>mean
want*
you can probably google and have hundreds upon thousands of hits about it, but probably all the forums are died.
Is this on the same level of bioshock infinite pre-release if you're familiar with that shitshow? cba watching the video, it hurts bros
Incredible that half of the people in that video jumped ship when the game launched.
is there anyone left at all?
The real problem was how quickly events reset
>do event chain to save village
>rest and sort inventory for ten minutes
>by the time youre done the village is under attack again
the rapid-fireness really ruined their mantra of feeling like you made a difference in the world
Yeah the first event in the game you can hear other people fighting the boss you're about to fight just before you get there, it's just a really unimmersive game.
>It just underdelivered hard
The greatest sin in GW2 is not having the GW1 skill system.
I remember reading articles in PC Gamer magazine being cautiously optimistic about the open world stuff but boy was I fricking moron.
I haven't played these games, but I remember one of the fat women writers for GW2 bragging about how she never played or read any of the material from GW1.
this has happened with several sequels and all of them have been awful
is gw1 fun with the npc you can group with?
I want to run a necro with a huge ass army
Yes but there are still people playing so find a guild and some players to run stuff with.
Have a hero do the necro stuff. Manually casting death ward/jagged bones on every minion is a pain in the ass.

>quarterly earnings having anything to do with population

yes.
how bad/good are those earnings from the few whales left?
>doesn't post player count
Game's dead, got it.
>quarterly earnings
oh hey its the schizo homosexual from the general!
no. I just gave away GW1 because i'm a really cool guy. why are you so upset?
the game is completely dead. I was looking for information about the wizard tower expansion, and besides the official sources and like one other guy, there was nobody talking about it. shit didn't even look interesting. it's like they expected you to pay $30 for a living world update you would have gotten for free during Season 3.
>game is completely dead
whatever you say, Black person.
that is pretty dead.
and I doubt that is overflow, if that is even still a thing
youre right, the new meta boss is dead. good eyesight anon
calm down, it's an old game with a few people still playing.
you can find that many people in israeliteel of istan and its still a dead game
what even do people do in the end-game now? last I heard they completely gave up on raids and fractals are barely supported.
Apparently Lost Ark numbers are mostly bots so it doesn't count.
i find it kinda funny how runescape is never mentioned when talking about mmos. its like it exists in its own universe separate from other mmos
Because it's terrible and the only people who play it are people who played it originally in their teens
>t. someone who played runescape, myth of soma, mir, conquer online and tibia in his teens
doesnt matter how terrible you think it is, i wager it has more online players than some of the games you mentioned
right now 150k
>the only people who play it are people who played it originally in their teens
I mean I've never touched Runescape so I don't really have a horse in this race, but it's literally the same with GW1
that would actually explain a lot of the rose-tinted defenders of GW1
it was a good game
later
when it turned into something actually unique, before that it was a good PvP game with a really shitty PvE mode attached
>that would actually explain a lot of the rose-tinted defenders of GW1
Mix of both
I'm 100% biased in favor of GW because my favorite teenage gaming memories belong to it, and I just hate how "cynical" GW2 turned out to be as a product which only fuels my bitterness
But you also can't deny GW1 really was its own thing and appeared at the right time, before FOMO, gambling and micro-transactions became king in online gaming
I just want to go back tbh
Who said otherwise? No one was complaining GW1 to be a current MMO
I would try RuneScape, but the sub fee is fricking insane. Why would I pay $11 a month to play an old game when I can just play FF14 for $2 more? Maybe if it was like $5 a month... The only people playing RuneScape at this point are people hopelessly addicted, because no rational person would pay that much.
Wait, I just looked it up and apparently they increased the price even more. LMAO. $0.50 less than a FF14 sub. Are they on fricking crack?
because it's dogshit and people only played it back in the day because their parents wouldn't pay the sub fee for something good
This is the reason I played guild wars. Mom thought wow was a scam back in 2005.
Your mom was right, subscription fee's are always a scam.
nah, some of the best MMOs I ever played had sub fees
Mine didn't think it was a scam but she still wouldn't pay a monthly fee. Honestly I'm grateful because it led me to GW1.
It still has 150,000 players online -right now- across both games, which is more than most MMOs isn't it? I don't think you can cope with "muh cheap wow" anymore since runescape membership isn't cheap anymore
I was talking about back in the day, when you didn't really have many F2P alternatives. But even now the game is still a poor man's WoW, subscription or not.
Runescape is more popular than it was back in the day based on pure numbers, but people for some reason never talk about it when talking about MMOs in general. Which was anon's point
I can't speak for anyone else but as a kid I never lumped it in with other MMOs because I thought it was a crappy browser game. It probably has an actual client now but I still think of it that way.
I don't really lump it in with other MMOs either but that's because it's a sandbox game and I've never played everquest or prehistoric shit like that, only themepark MMOs
Korean trash isn't played in the west, runescape doesn't even have servers outside of the west
because it gets the treatment it deserves, no one brings up korean trash either (usually) even though it has numbers that would make WoW blush
jfc you must be an absolute fricking moron to enjoy that garbage lol
is this real
>people having fun in a video game
it's real, anon, and it's horrible
It looks very gay to me.
what's the best secondary profession for ritualist?
You don't even need one
If you want to play a pure Rit build, just use A so you can bring Dash and/or Shadow Refuge
If you're a memer you can take R and play the spirit strength bow build
>spirit strength bow build
i wish to know more
It's a dumb un-optimal but working build
12+4 spawning power, 12+X channeling magic, anniversary spawning power req flatbow
Nightmare weapon for bosses / heavily armored single targets, splinter weapon against groups, bloodsong + spirit siphon to manage energy
You can move some skills around if you want to make it better (you don't need the spirit and spirit siphon if you have a BiP hero and know how to manage it but I'm too lazy and I like being self-sufficient)
Wait is barrage not an elite skill anymore? Or am i mistaking that with something else?
You're mistaking, it is Triple Shot, the luxon / kurzick ranger skill
N so you can do meme spawning power minion builds.
Builds like these made Guild Wars unique.
What does this build even do
?feature=shared&t=24
run around spreading disease, it seems
>not taking lacerate, toxicity, and pestilence along with barbed signet, rotting flesh and signet of agony
A real necro should be miserable to have around no matter which team he is on.
my favourite jade quarry build
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEX

don't >> me
repostin for anyone interested in account recovery
Guess I have no worries then. I provided creation date, password history, gw2 cd key, birthdate and the names of 5 fricking accounts as well as the last login date
Thinking of starting a new char since I'm hopefully getting my account back, a Warrior, what's a good second profession? Or should I stick to pure W.
most people play W/A for shadowsteps
W/A it is. Gonna be a while though since I want to start with prophecies and try and solo play through story with npcs.
Soul Scriptura coming through
>ackshually the humans stole the Charrs land so they ackshually the searing was justified
>so what if the charr ate humans only decades ago and still do?
Remember when arenanet retconned the charr lore to make them appeal to furgays?
Ascalon is a dirty word
I always wanted to try it but never got around
What was the name of the build where a paragon used this shit with 2 other necros in HA?
imbagon?
Forgot image.
you mean the retcon that happened during GW1?
god i miss gw1 sometimes it was so amazing at its peak
Does any have the image edit of that homosexual dog as a ritualist? something called, homosexual was my dog
kino thanks
Arenanet blocked my accounts twice due to inactivity
first time accout from like 2007 tried to relog a decade later and they said the email was wrong although it was the one linked to the account and refused to deblock it in customer service
second time I buy the game again with all expansions play through the base game and eye of the north, have to go abroad for work come back months later, account blocked again and have to provide receipt number and all for them to deblock.
at this point Im suspecting a scheme from these israelites to make the three people on earth still playing it buying the game several times
frick those people
hamstorm
>you've clearly not played in a long time
That's true enough but lets see
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_heavy_armor
There's nothing which compares to this Warrior armor, same goes for Medium armor. Also look at Elementalist in GW1.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Elementalist_armor
Every other set is competing for who can have the shortest miniskirt, I don't think GW2 even has a single miniskirt from what I remember even though Light armour in GW2 does have a few semi-revealing sets
i love seeing beautiful women competing to be the best looking bawd
>2024
>Still no Charr Hide armor
meanwhile, in reality
That looks fricking garbage
now that's quality seething
jesus christ how embarrassing
are they floating above the geometry?
maybe its the character models, or just the colour/shape of the bikini, but ive never seen something so revealing yet so unsexy in a long time
Neither of those have cleavage, all 3 of my examples do, yours are also full plates, not bikinis.
GW2's designers purposefully made the game as unsexy as possible.
there's more than that, I'm pretty sure
yeah, there's a bunch of midriff-exposing armors in GW2 mostly from the base game but still
95% of skins and armor looks so fricking bad in GW2
Most of them were designed for Humans too so if you wear them on Asura or Charr they look even worse
Downgrade, just like everything else
I always liked the drakehide ranger armor
>Miss the anniversary weapons for the third year in a row
I'm missing out on all the funny gimmick builds
Volumes.
this is why I will never come back to GW2
this shit isn't a fantasy game anymore
I already thought the lunar new year dragon amsks and chaos gloves looked silly in GW1, but this is nightmarish
even fricking worse they b***hed that sexy female armor wont fit the setting and muh fantasy so wont add them but get rainbows and other gay shit all over the place
they really went down the korean mmo route and just add all kinds of shit that clashes with the in-game universe.
>new gw2 fow armors added
Looks like fricking SHITE, should have been gw1 fow armors remade
I like the medium one actually, the other two are ugly
They have to look bad so that you can identify players that are so shit that they had to spend 50 times as long farming overworld content than it would have taken to get the PvP, WvW, or Raiding legendary armor.
To be fricking fair, most GW1 FoW armors were also ugly as shit and I never understood WHY people wasted all their cash on it
At least vabbian armors looked rich on top of being a status symbol
Its not about how the armor looks. Its showing everyone you are the richest motherfricker in the game or biggest autist.
see
They weren't all that ugly, often they stood out in some way but I made use of at least a part or two on most of my characters. I remember the last time I did a GW1 replay I got those glowing ectoplasm gloves too, they were not really tasteful just obnoxious but it was novel to me because they weren't in the game when I originally played
I remember always getting FoW chestpiece on my GW1 monks, it stood out because of the boob window and Egyptian look, paired well with a lot of parts. I don't think I'd even get it if I played GW2
>Gw1 was about customization and fashion
>NO NOT LIKE THAT

Have you appreciated your healer today?
You better have. Be a shame if they went on strike or something.
Femonks are underrated and cute as FRICK.
>Play RA
>never get a monk
>Fine I'll just do it
>Load up RA as monk
>Three monks on my team
I swear to God they did this shit on purpose it happened so consistently
the trick was to play a smite monk always fun messages :^)
Same, everytime I played RA I'd go against a team with a monk and I'd have 0 on my side and 99% of the time lose. Make my own monk and always end up with a bunch of monks and have 0 damage.
One time we had a 40+ min match because we had 2 monks and they had 2 monks and each side was too stubborn to lose.
Thats every single matchmaking game.
I liked playing protection monk and healing rit in this game...but RA/pvp in general is now dead and healing brainless heroes who do a worse job at dps than I could is not fun
playing healer in gw1 was actual work and made a big deal if done wrong
playing healer in every other game after was basically not playing, no mental load at all, if i wasn't also being strategist or something else it was just boring
based monk /dancing at thunderhead keep whilst on strike
I wish I could play through guild wars at its peak as an adult instead of an eleven year old getting flamed in AB for my ranger build.
I played through it every few years and it's still as good as I remember it, usually I try to bring at least one real friend. The custom heroes you can get make it a lot more fun than the original henchmen
well, you'll still get flamed for playing ranger, nothing you can do about that
No you don't
Cherish these memories from when you could still feel a sense of wonder by playing videogames, because the magic is not coming back
The magic definitely comes back if you play the right games, I can sense DD2 will give me that same feeling
someone said they are working on another game?
game?
yeah, they've been working on it for over 15 years
NC is partnered with sony to make the horizon mmo. indications are that this is anet's mystery project.
It's fricking DOA, what a waste of dev time
>horizon mmo
fricking hell
It's amazing they're still pushing Horizon so hard
>THIS IS A FLAGSHIP FRANCHISE
>AND YOU WILL LIKE IT AND LOVE ALLOY
Nobody even makes porn of Alloy
Future caveman hunting robot dinos is such a fantastic concept for a single player game or MMO.
It's truly insane how they managed to frick it up as bad as they did and never improve with every subsequent release.
>the horizon mmo
That's fricking sad even after the shitheap that was gw2. That's almost as depressing as learning that most of the original team behind gw1 left anet to make state of decay for microsoft.
didnt they partner with amazon to make them an mmo too
and that bombed
there's not a single MMO that didn't bomb these last 10 years though
Probably because most people have played one specific mmo enough to became mazed. They might try others occasionally but they always go back to their first pimp.
not that i know of. the former director of GW2 left anet to work on one of amazon's games, it folded, and then anet hired him back as a "studio director" without explaining what that meant. i think it means he doesn't have a direct hand in GW2 development anymore but is likely overseeing the new game. which is fine by me as i don't care what happens to it. i never liked the reddit cult surrounding him (indeed, i think it's he who encouraged the early dev team to take their cues from the GW2 sub) and i think most of the egregious things that GW2 suffered in the early years were decisions that he made or happened on his watch. he was never good and just keeps failing upwards.
go back to /vm/ you sperg
>A member of our support team will get back to you as soon as they are able to with a reply. If you need to update your ticket, add additional details, or no longer need assistance, you can reply to this email:
I'm recovering my account, hopefully it doesn't take too long for them to fix it I want to look at all my characters
When I was recovering my account they responded surprisingly quick.
after i realized how brutally GW2 gutted the skill system i dropped the franchise forever
tried to restore my GW1 account a few years ago but the indian woman at the support center couldnt do it. its whatever. i aint giving nu ArenaNet a single penny
rest in peace old friend
kino
and all that ran 60 fps and dsmooth like butter on a mediocre pc on release. It was simply fricking epic. The pvp rocked my world for a full year. holy shit so much depth, so much fun.
GW2 is an embarassment and people who play this are fricking casual scum.
The moment I saw gw2 pvp with downed states, I lost all interest completely.
How playable really is GW2 if you're not buying the expansions or spending money?
im gonna try it out after the account recovery goes through. i played gw2 during the release in summer 2012 and based on that the gameplay was too boring to keep me hooked, i went back to gw1 for several years after
Not at all, but the $50 sale price for the first 3 expansions and all living worlds is good value. There is a lot of content. Living world 3 and 4 are basically full expansions. IBS and Living world 2 together are probably the size of an expansion.
I noticed that pack does not contain the last expansion though. Would that bite me in the ass?
The only thing you don't get is the soto specific relics which probably doesn't matter unless you're doing end game group content and trying to make a META build... I don't know. I never really looked at which relics are exclusive and which ones aren't
I forgot to mention, that with the $50 pack you have access to this
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_Return
If you do these achievements you get a legendary. Even if you buy that pack and the only thing you do is this achievement you will get your moneys worth.
Never noticed Ritualist had such a sexo set. I always tell myself I'll play a different class on my next playthrough but I always end up playing Monk
The expansions made the combat better
not the gear i remember wearing on my warrior before quitting but I guess I changed it at some point.
So are we jumping on and running some shit together?
I wish but I'm really tired rn also I may actually make a second account tomorrow since they're so cheap and start FRESH
I'm thinking about starting an assassin on my new account to play through factions now that it's spring.
>Account is like 10 years old
>Log in every year to pick up presents, but don't actually play
I have a bunch of those cool potions that turn you into NPCs
Reminder that
has a regular and active Guild Wars thread AND guild. Right now, some guys are running through the Prophecies campaign again (the guild has played through all three campaigns before + gets together to run dungeons sometimes.)
If you're an old player or want to be a new player, come to the thread and post your IGN for a guild invite. Lots of people to do stuff with.
Sex with that monkette
i might contact you guys once my recovery goes through. i hope it doesnt take like a fricking week
Support should get back to you in a day or two.
is gildwars2 worth playing
yes, but it is a different game than GW2
>continuation
What did it win?
>GW2 is released
>takes 2 years efore the first expac is released
>nosedives because anet continues to make an abandoned dune game and get their staff cut
>nose dives even further because they wanted to make a phone game but staff cuts and project gets abandoned again
>????
>somehow still floating for now
still floating for now
I'm assuming anet doesn't publish active playercounts for gw2 like blizzard doesn't for wow, but if there are any non-biased active players, any guesses?
I don't think any MMO publishes those anymore so it's tough to say
I'm sure it's much smaller than WoW, XIV, ESO, and Runescape, but obviously it's bigger than the more niche games like Albion and EVE or games on life support like SWTOR
ESO still popular? Jesus
Because the brain-damaged boomers playing GW2 keep Anet afloat by themselves just buying every new outfit that releases on all of their many ERP accounts
It's in maintenence mode while they pretend it isn't by re-using assets for the new "expansion" (three "listen to bossvwoman talk" instances every quarter year).
its been in maintainence mode since they released path of fire
>my headcannon is real
the only thing that nosedived was PvP, which ironically mirrors exactly what happened to GW1's PvP scene
between 200k-300k active players is the only thing we've ever been told
based on NCSoft's quarterly reports, Arenanet is one of their most solid performing studios that isn't gacha shit
>*spams your general to kill it again*
I think that guy died of covid, his bot stopped spamming around the time we all got ligma
idk ask anet
no more daily chests
>no more daily chests
I guess I was just imagining all those jade runestones I've been getting.
>active players
How do you define an active player? I'm more so interested in the amount of players logged in simultaneously, averaged over the day
two thirds of those active players are alt accounts logging in to get daily chests and afk farm.
they fixed that with the last expansion. you have to play to get meaningful rewards now.
what do i pick
left for campaign
right for endless queues because nobody does pvp
left. right is for making a max level character that can only pvp
Pick right and jump into random arenas.
random arena has been dead for longer than my hopes and dreams. the whole pvp scene has
I miss the guild wars pvp scene so much. Nothing has ever compared to it.
Roleplaying so you can become my wife in game
Can I be your wife instead?
Well no one does PvP anymore soo...
Shame, because Codex Arena was neat
I finished getting GWAMM last year, It was fun to revisit all the areas of the original game and even see a bunch of things off the beaten path I didn't know existed.
>playing Gay prostitutes
couldn't be me
Is it worth to get the mercenary heroes?
Because it's fricking 39 euros still.
idk what those are
If you absolutely want to stack on Mesmers to run the ultra-meta team, yeah
If you're a normal non-autistic person, frick no
You can use one of your own playable characters as a hero for your other playable characters
>mesmer meta
Please elaborate
look up mesmerway on PvX
There's nothing to elaborate
Mesmers are OP as frick after their rework
Energy Surge deals vast AOE armor-ignoring damage, is cheap, casts fast, cooldowns fast, so the new meta is stacking as many E-surge mesmer to spam a constant barrage of armor-ignoring damage on big pack of mobs and wipe everything as fast as possible
im not sure that skill has changed since i last played (over a decade ago), i guess it just becomes op when you can have 7 heroes cast the same spell one after another?
It did change a little bit, its energy cost was halved from 10 to 5 and its CD was reduced from 20 to 15s
they also made it aoe in the mesmer rework (along with a ton of other domination spells, like panic)
it being aoe is what really makes it busted, since it's instant single damage aoe it doesn't make mobs scatter, unlike basically every other aoe in the game like the ele ones.
since i havent played the game in such a long time i feel like both of those skills have always been aoe...at least in 2011
https://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Energy_Surge&oldid=31178
Only if you don't want to play NF/EOTN to unlock extra heroes of each profession.
Not really, I bought 1 so I could do the ULTRAMETA 4 Mesmer hero build and honestly it's unnecessary. It'd only be worth it if you want to, for fun, dick around with comp stacking classes. Meme shit like 7 Rangers etc.
>Meme shit like 7 Rangers etc
>he doesn't run dungeons with 7 pet/barrage rangers
ISHYGDDT
I miss running primeval tomb as barrage ranger teams with my bro after school and bragging in front of everybody when you got a victo weapon
I will never give up my Kole's Torment I got back in middle school running the tombs as an MM. I don't care that I hardly run blood magic I ain't changing.
they are funny for meme comps like 7 minion masters or spirit summoners but most people that buy them just use them to do 6 mesmer meta teams
Let's say I buy the game through Steam
Can I still have a normal account and play through the main GW client?
im guessing yes since you can download the client without steam but youll just have to look through the steam page i guess
Steam gives you keys and you don't need steam run the game through.
Nice, thanks guys, I'll get it tomorrow
how limited is this game in terms of movement, I liked in GW2 all the movement skills
There is no jump button.
it's completely different. it's kinda like playing DOTA in third person. you can't jump and you auto-move to your target to hit them. movement skills are either "you run faster" or "you teleport to/away from your target"
movement plays basically no role in combat or outside of it
You get hit marginally less by missile attacks by moving and npcs casting aoe on you doesn't even need an explanation.
it's pretty antiquated in those terms. the game isn't fully 3D, you can't jump or even drop off a ledge. almost every action that isn't a shout or flash roots you.
If you play solo without a guild or friends, standard crew it gets depressing.
>i-it's fun with friends...
Where do you think you are Black person?
>If you play solo without a guild or friends, standard crew it gets depressing.
Topkek, speak for yourself.
Six years of no downtime!
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:Game_updates/20240215
I fell asleep playing GW2. One of the least fun gaming experiences I've ever had. Played a lot of it too. Very odd experience though, because it felt like it should be fun, but it wasn't.
>5 hours since submitting support ticket after seeing the previous thread
c'mon you chink Black folk i wanna play
>up to 2 business days
it's friday btw
>see mesmer in pvp
>try to cast a spell
interrupted
>try to attack them
empathy/clumsiness
>try to run away
slowed to a crawl
>try doing nothing
wastel's worry/demise
What a great class.
>riverdances on your corpse
mesmer in gw1 was fricking epic, the ultimate troll. in gw2 (at least at launch) it was just the illusionary weaponry skill + none of the interesting spells because all debuffs are generic shit. ruined the most interesting mmo class ever
They didn't want to spend resources balancing the game. The problem is that every class became generic and flavorless shit.
>generic debuffs
>unique conditions
there is nothing unique about conditions in GW1 and in many ways, you're just butthurt that GW2 used a different word for the same shit
GW2 still has interrupts, you can still punish for using skills, you can make people worse at melee or unable to use skills at all, you can punish them for not moving, or unable to move
like i said previously i was talking about gw2 at launch, when i noticed there were no unique negative effects like empathy or spiteful spirit, all negative effects were generic debuffs. i dont know if the game has changed since
The term your referring to is Curses. Guild Wars had curses, as far as I remember, Guild Wars 2 did not.
The term you're wanting is Hexes. Curses was a attribute Necros had and GW2 does in fact have a trait line called Curses.
trolling is a art
You are correct.
The applied effect is called a "Hex".
Guild Wars 2 does not have hexes or enchantments, as far as I recall. Just generic Boons.
>it's generic because it does the same thing but has a name I don't like
holy fricking shit
>Does the same thing
Enchantments and Boons are not the same thing, you fraud.
it's literally the same you just don't like it because it's not tied to specific classes
I didn't even say I didn't like it. I actually think they could've done both Boons and Enchantments, they serve different purposes.
>defile flesh
poison
>assassin's remedy/critical defense
gw2 has active combat, blocking is reactive, but aegis would sort of fit the bill
you hate that I am right, and further, someone even admitted it
you should probably look up what Assassin's Remedy does
sorry, I forgot what that one did, there's plenty of boon strip in gw2
Defile Flesh
Hex Spell. (5...29...35 seconds.) Reduces healing target foe receives by 33%. Only skills with the word "heal" in the description are affected.
Poison
Deals damage every second; decreases healing effectiveness by 33%; damage stacks intensity.
healing bonuses are usually split by build, resurrection abilities vary by classes
something like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Battle_Standard
with buffs, and multi function is a good example
Defile Flesh just reduces healing, but for a very long period of time.
Poison is damage every second (which is objectively different from Health Degeneration), with a healing debuff.
Defile Flesh cannot be removed by curing conditions, Poison can.
Even if these two effects were in the same game together they would have different uses.
If you don't realize that, there's no helping you.
>Defile Flesh and Poison are the same thing
I'm gonna throw up your moronation has made me physically ill you make surface level observations and think you're anything more than a 0 IQ Black, please go back to Guild Wars 2 and double tap W to roll off of a frickin cliff.
Where's the boon equivalent of Critical Defense or Assassin's Remedy? Where is the condition equivalent of Defile Flesh?
but they don't do the same thing, at all
Pretty much every class can apply every Boon in the game.
Only Monks can apply Mending.
It's generic because every class can do it.
So which boons do I use to do something like
?
You are fricking moronic
Like so completely gorilla dumb my brain is hurting reading your posts
There's unique buff effects in GW2 it's not all just boons.
There's literally no buff in the entirety of GW2 as varied or radically game-changing as hexes and enchantments from GW
Hell, even nature spirits were fricking axed
Empathy is a basic mesmer hex in gw1, and there's nothing matching that "unique" of a debuff in gw2
Isn't there that one condition with a swirl on it basically empathy?
There are two anti-role conditions. Daze for casters and blind for physical. None of them function like empathy
confusion
Confusion : Damage received on skill activation; stacks intensity
Not really empathy since it's on skill activation rather than attack, but it's similar
in gw2 only auto attack doesn't count as a skill, it's functionally the same
>it's not the same because they used different words even though it does the same thing
They, quite literally, are not the same.
let's see, they both:
>reduces healing
>makes health go down
yep, not the same at all
This homie didn't even read what Defile Flesh does.
They are, quite literally, in all aspects, not the same.
They share ONE aspect.
>it's not the same because words different
Alright, I got trolled. Carry on anon.
yes thats how words work moronkun
>"taxes are the same as fines"
is this what playing gw2 does to a man
>it's functionally the same
Not really
Skills, spells and attacks were their own things in GW, each being affected by different sets of hexes and enchantments
If you cast empathy on a caster or backfire on a warrior you're not doing jackshit
Confusion works with everything, it's just a generalist, dumbed down version
And we also have backfire for magic stuff.
>be monk in pvp
>have to heal teammate
>enemy mesmer hexes you with diversion
>have to make a split second decision of eating the +60 second cd of a key skill, let the ally die, or time the hex running out before panic healing them
Show me another pvp game that ever had this amount of depth
Yeah, when you go beyond the basic skills and into the niche shit, it's laughable how fricking backwards gw2. I hate that game
What's the GW2 equivalent of Unyielding Aura
What can I run to bully casters like pic related?
dervish sexo
bully everyone
except conditions are pretty much the same in GW1 and 2. they have standard effects by definition. other debuffs are not condis. you are probably trying to reference hexes but those don't have unique removal options, they're taken out by any "remove hex" effect.
once again we have a rose goggles gay who doesn't even know how GW1 works.
so you concede that gw2 has no hexes but instead generic debuffs
only if you're talking about player skills. there are plenty of unique debuffs in GW2 that can't be removed at all. play the games before you try to talk about them.
>there are plenty of unique debuffs in GW2 that can't be removed at all
Instead it was just spam 3 clones and shatter them then mash your weapon skills until they died.
interesting, how did aneurysm work with that?
I meant casting it on a ele with over a 100 total energy. You would run up to them and cast energy surge/burn then pop their brain for over 200 damage if you were lucky.
Nineteen years and counting of causing endless seethe, love it.
>stockings
post upskirt
hate they fricked Hex breaker
I recovered my account on a Sunday afternoon being from west coast NA. They got me up and running in a few hours.
i think GW2 might have some of the worst pvp ive ever seen
it was fun watching izzy get absolutely dumpstered on by rangers at the start like the shitcan he was
"i dunno i use kick on my warrior and it seems pretty good..." ignore pain broken for 4 months btw
Infinite Hyena glitch was pretty funny though.
didn't mesmer also have like a entire set of abilities that just didn't function properly? I know necro was also dogshit on launch.
You can't even do pvp in gw1 without getting reported to death by Bot for leeching
what happened?
I played the shit out of Dervish back during daybreak but never Paragon. Is it good? Reinstalling now and I want to try it.
If you enjoy spamming a buff onto people at the start of a mission/area and then maintaining it by casting a random shout every 10 secs, sure.
that does not sound fun at all, frick you Kormir
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Heroic_Refrain
This is your job as a paragon. Used to be Imbagon was the only use for them.
Yeah, dagger spam is strong on a lot of professions but personally can't stand it and find it boring.
it's a great hero class, but very boring to play iirc
basically pointless to play now since its basically a support hero to buff others, going for full damage is not optimal and unless youre playing with friends buffing allies isnt exactly thrilling
>Campaign takes place in fantasy Africa
>New class throws spears
lmao?
Nightfall is one of the rare "African-mythology inspired" settings done well.
It's barely african tbqh
Most of it feels more MENA than actual sub-saharan african
that's because they focused on the roman/greek/mena part of Africa and not the other part
they actually made the people darker than they would be for those areas
It's better than how they handled fantasy China.
Because it wasn't fantasy china.
It was vague fantasy orientalism.
NCSOFT HAD DONE IT
THE GUILD WARS HAD WON IT
Were Eles the weakest class in the game PVP wise?
Depends. They were pretty much always staple in GvG as far as I remember, but also locked into snare/blind botting and considered one of the easiest roles to play.
Air eles and fire eles used to be fricking busted, they were fricking everywhere
I guess I played Ranger so they always felt weak to me.
Fire Eles got kind of powerful when Mind Blast was buffed, I seem to remember an infamous two ele split strat in GvG that dominated pretty hard for a while.
SH eles were nuts in HA. I think they transitioned into air for spike and pressure teams after the nerf though
I know vg has had a guild for awhile. But I'm wondering if these threads got an influx of anons on new accounts ready to go through raw
I mean, that's going to be your best place to find anons to play through the game together, plus their current Proph group is only a handful of missions past pre-Sear.
The new head dev of GW1 has currently been playing through the game, starting with Prophecies; so yes, maybe something! There was a recent stream with one of the old head devs and he said that they regretted not supporting GW1 for longer than they did.
>New head of Guild Wars 1 is actually playing the entire thing in chronological order
Pretty neat
one of our guys even had a convo with him
Maybe I should start playing Guild Wars again...
let's play together anon
It is a good time. You have three diverse, standalone entry-points to choose from.
Do it. I'm picking up the sale and reinstalling tonight
>Friend bought me Helldivers 2 today
>Might end up playing Guild Wars this weekend instead
>There was a recent stream with one of the old head devs and he said that they regretted not supporting GW1 for longer than they did.
Got a link to that?
hmm
im not interested in playing bots and heroes but it occurs to me gw.exe could be fun to just have up as a chatroom. can't imagine it using more ram than discord or a modern browser.
Why is there a gw1 thread all the sudden
why not?
No, why the frick is there a guild thread this active NOW? I tried making it a few time the past month and it always fall off with 1 or 2 post
I don't know, I guess it's just a magic day
The frick am I supposed to say?
steam sale
75% off
For 2?
no, gw1, trilogy+eotn is like $10 total right now
FRICK CHARR
GW2s whole "we killed the evil charr that nuked the lands but we're not relocating and you deserved it" angle drove me up the fricking wall. Charr themselves are dope but that was just silly
Better than another DbD troony thread.
Because it's a good game worth talking about and the coomers get ones less spam thread.
bros I decided to start a new char, whi is everyone so silent in Kamadan it doesn't be like I remember it be.
Although I solved my latency issues.
go to district 1
i see you
I have such fond memories of teenage me playing Factions while listening to the latest Breaking Benjamin album.
I do remember them claiming they will be a lot of weapon builds, with different skill sets. In the end, it was all lies.
the weapons themselves aren't new, but they have given a new usable weapon to each prof in each expansion.
Wait
So have they not added a single new weapon to the game since launch
no they haven't
Out frickin rageous.
bruh
Not a single one.
no, after launch they even removed the small grind you had to do to earn all weapon skills, and the map exploration skill point discovery grind
A video of my guild clearing UW during the Ursan meta.
>ursan
thanks anon I vomited a bit in my mouth
ursan these nuts into your mouth you shitter
>proud to show everyone the most braindead the game has ever been
>calls anyone a shitter
This is actually disgusting.
you can tell they wanted to get away from the rows of unique enchantments in gw1, which is why they made boons to condense generic damage stuff
but then creatively bankrupt designers don't know what to do long term and just add tons of garbage
FRICK YOU
I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME
I remember getting a 12 hours one as a kid and thinking I was the biggest fricking player in the entire game lmao.
Qrd? There's a sale? Is it only on ~~*steam*~~ or is it through the official site too? When does the sale end? Frick anons, seeing these threads makes me want to start playing again
Steam has the first 3 campaigns for like $7.50 USD. ArenaNet's site has the 3+Eye of The North expac for $10 USD. Sale last until the 21st I think.
Frick, guess it's time to fall off the wagon again. This game was like heroine when I was a kid. Are anons going to organize a play through from the beginning? I never thought I'd see the day where I can do a campaign with 7 people again
>Are anons going to organize a play through from the beginning?
see
there's a sale on the official site too. trilogy/eotn are $5, complete collection (which is trilogy + eotn) is $10
Do you have to pay for gw2 expansions? How much for all of them?
Way too much.
I'm wondering cus gw1 wasn't expensive. But the expansions outside of eotn brought plenty of content
I saw there's a sale on all of them + LW seasons for 50 shekels right now, which is a pretty good deal.
this game was the first time i heard jeremy soule music and it was so so good
>put 600 hrs into GW to get GWAMM
>almost get permabanned for scamming dozens of people to raise the gold
>GW2 comes out
>it's dogshit
I remember rushing 30/50 for GW2 release, only to quit it after a month.
We're going to get special stuff for the 20th anniversary, right?
More content, even. More stuff to do for us because it's so simple to develop for a still profitable game, right?
At least more skills or weapons?
Trust the plan.
how often does the game get updated, any signs it might get something next year?
it's on literal maintenance mode by now, but they have been doing special little things for milestone anniversaries
We're honestly lucky to be having this very thread and the ability to play the game still.
So, am I basically cucked out of the new giga OP skills without one of these? Are the "devs" moronic?
the event comes back around every year, should be next month actually
idk what that is, doesnt look familiar
You can party up with someone who has it and it'll spawn the boss.
You don't need one, just someone in your party does.
In fact, I'll be here for the next hour. If anyone needs a Proof of Legend to cap some skills, message Leon Skullsmacker or post your IGN here.
You can party with someone who has it in his own inventory, the mob will spawn and you'll be able to capture the skill
Just ask if somebody in kamadan or something has one and if they'd help you go get them. Only 1 person in the party needs to have it for the bosses to spawn.
Do you need to go in Hard Mode?

I played EoE bomb in HA once, it was the most wacky and weirdest build I've seen ever work.
The minion factory one was pretty whacky too.
I played that once before minions got a cap, people killing themselves, fast cast rezzers, necros summoning minions. Out first match was against IWAY and we just got destroyed, they were outhealing the minions and using cyclone axe, group disbanded after that and never got to play it again.
Should have tried golem spike. Dropping people while 6 flesh golems beat their casters to death was based
For me it was R-spike. The thinking man's HA team
You weren't flailing your way through with randomway pugs you weren't really playing HA.
Blizzard wasn't even on the same league as these guys.
was there ever a reason not to use flail, even in pvp if you had something to cancel it. such a great skill.
It and frenzy were the go to IAS for warrior. It's particularly good with enraging charge since it can cancel flail/IMS/gives adren on hit for flail to activate.
look at them frickin giant lips
all the better to kiss you with, anon
imagine those wrapped around your pp
another good thread bros
Nothin personel
>eat diversion on word of healing
gg go next
One of the best skills in the game.
High energy cost and long casting time, but could cause total team collapse if it hit a bad spot at a bad time.
Mesmer was busted, but so were healers.
I found the must success in RA with a support hybrid Necro build paired with a decent monk. Those were the days.
i love these sorts of things. the earlier guy asked about 'movement', one big thing gw1 did well was positioning. when you can't bounce off the walls at a whim and get rooted every time you do something, your position starts to matter. same with cast time.
It's a bummer the pvp scene is dead.
and being able to manually dodge projectiles
i cant believe there are so many people arguing against gw2 statuses being generic. it doesnt make the game you like any less difficult or whatever, its just reality
It's just one guy and he turned out to be fricking around. It's on me for feeding it.
it's only generic because you're autistic about words being different, even if the conditions and boons do the same thing
>it's only generic because you're autistic about words being different
so how many unique hexes like
does gw2 have?
This dude's trolling, just stop lmao
autism cannot be stopped
Rumblings behind the scenes are making me think there's a nonzero chance Guild Wars 3 is being considered as a true successor to Guild Wars 1.
Not good, but also not impossible.
Not only is it massive fricking copium, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want current Anet to do ANYTHING regarding GW ever again unless you happen to enjoy the shitshow that is GW2
they brought back Colin "believed his lies" Johanson to run the studio, why would you EVER want that
Don't get your hopes up we both know its just gonna be a shitty live service game with like 30 skills per class that all do almost the same thing. Do you want run a fire ele with 4 variations of flare or a ranger with 4 bow attacks that do the same damage?
Can we have our anonymous meeting in district 3?
he looks so happy bros
It looks like a black bird
He looks like he spits.
nah he definitely swallows
i went to capture this back in like 2007 or whenever ascalon pvp arena was still active, lv10 with ss. Lives were taken
Malicious Malefactor
Is this a solo game or what?
you can solo most of it
Mmorpg. You can play it solo or with other people. It's only $10 anon, give it a try. If you want an endorsement, there's anons in this thread who even 20 years later still have this game living rent free in their heads
You can obtain AI members that allow you to customize their gear and spells completely, then you can solo pretty much everything yes.
how do you get plat these days to fund anything
have a 55hp monk farm hm lions arch ;^)
Farm materials and sell to the trader. Probably super devalued on most of them, but it's an option
>black dyes used to be 13k+
Take me back
dyes used to be 13k+
how much are they now? hell, can you post the prices of superior runes?
There's low. Very few are over 100g, except for the obvious like superior vigor. I think the only money is in a few specific insignias like the dervish enchantment one and the ritualist spirit one
Gift of the traveler from Nick are still worth a decent amount, though they're usually sold for ecto so you'd need to sell off the ecto as well.
im not a new player, i just don't find farming fun at all. last time i played they had nerfed farm rates into oblivion and limited drops per zone by real world time or something nonsense. which would be whatever if i only have to fund myself but if i have to fund 12 heroes it's a big problem.
ive never done gift of traveler, how much plat does an ecto go for?
I think it's currently 21 or 22 ecto per 100k.
One ecto is maybe like 4 or 5k now I think. The farm nerf is just for spamming the same zone over and over. If you have different areas or characters to farm on you won't really be impacted. Rip to A/E sliver armor though, I'll miss you my queen.....
is farming still higher droprates for single characters or can i play with the whole team now and get all 'their' drops too
Heros and henchmen get an invisible share of drops too, so you'll get less if they are there. In a full real 8 man team, the Chat is always full of loot drops
>have to pay for their skills, weapons, armor
>don't get their drops
>have to play hard mode solo to get garbage money
hmm maybe i won't play then
well maybe ill boot it up as a chatroom and poke around or just casually do whatever.
Their skills are whatever skills you've unlocked on your account. You can also get some sweet early ones for sunspear points which are free. Their armor just needs to be runed, otherwise it scales with level. They do fine with whatever random loot drop equipment works. This is not a grindy game anon, unless you want it to be
do 1 (one) gift of the traveler
sell it for 10e
sell the e for platinum to a player
now you have more raw money than you will ever need for a long time as a new player
*blocks your path*
Will this game give me the fantasy of a heavy armored two handed giant weapon wielding dude that can raise like 10 plus minions at once
not both at once, no
Speak for yourself my warrior never leaves town without his pet, asura summon, vanguard assassin, imperial guard reinforcements, and his 7 goons.
man that doesn't count
Yes, if you go warrior and pick necromancer as your secondary profession
hammer necromancer is certainly new to the palette
I sort of did this back in 2006 during Factions. Warrior + flesh golem, used taste of death as a big nice heal. It was really kind of shit but I thought it was a good build and actually posted it to some forum and people thought it was cool.
Technically yes, but realistically no. One or the other, not at the same time.
>Doing Joko's Domain vanquish
>WE SHALL RETURN!
>somehow... Joko returned
>and he is homo
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_minion_skills
But a lot of those skills make it seem like I can just summon anything after I kill it if it leaves a corpse
Are all the minions on a timer or something or is there a limit to how many I can have at once
Warriors have considerably less energy than Necromancers, minions decay over time, and there is a soft cap on minions
All of this takes so much energy that you have to do nothing else and you need a caster energy pool / energy regen, warriors have low energy pool and only 2 regen ticks
>is there a limit to how many I can have at once
2 to start, increases by 1 for every 2 ranks in death magic
I remember seeing a video review of these expansions recently. I'm empty inside and could use something to pass the time. There's still a bunch of single player content and stuff to play right? I'm okay with dry repetitive content if it kind of feels like playing wow in BC
It's not dry or repetitive. The game also gets very challenging as it progresses. You can play single player, but it is infinitely better with other people. You should definitely try it anon and there are people in thread who would play with you, myself included
>warrior with 5 attunement runes and a casting sword
Kek
See you next year for 20th birthday of GW1.

post more
i was gonna do something else tonight but instead i spent 4 hours on a thread about a dead game
be well anons
are you me
I wish that they gave more reasons to do quests, in Prophecies there were a bunch of skill quests that you could do to get free skills without having to buy them or get them way before you'd be able to buy them. Factions and Nightfall had really nothing like that besides Kurzick/Luxon faction or Sunspear/Lightbringer points. EOTN was better in giving some consumables or new PvE skills.
Each campaign had its own unique rewards for quests. Prophecies had skills and items, factions had xp and money, NF had heros and money
I don't remember how to play this game

It's quite simple actually
I started again recently after over a decade, was really easy to pick up again. Like the town bicycle.

But enough about Gwen. The game is really easy to relearn
