Unironically play while you still can. It's one of those actual master pieces that are 2nd to none. It still has people too. Just ignore the 2nd game completely
I saw the ads for it every day since it came out on our Game Network, and two years after it was released I saw it on a random store when I was on holiday. It was like 50€ so I was like what the hell, let's buy it!
>I don't trust they're going to always keep it goin

holy frick you people are stupid. Please keep away from guild wars like you already are
There are still EU district but the only server still running is a raspberry pi someone forgot to take offline in a bunker in Minnesota that the trannies who now work at NCSoft can't find.
Downloading the game on modern hardware with gigabyte fiber is slower than back in 2005 or whenever it came out and average ping even in EU/International is 300 with a shitload of lag spikes and rubber banding and it's not an issue related to my home or computer because I've tried on 5 different machines across 3 Euro countries since 2012 or whenever was the last time I played with Ganker
damn, that sounds fricking bad. I wonder if err yeah i'm pretty sure everything went to Amazon based cloud servers. I used to roll EU districts..back then..from the easy coast and get decent pings.
if I had the game.dat saved i'd upload it.
hint, you can save it on a storage device and just copy/paste.
maybe a vpn would help if you have access to one.

Legit the thing that upset me the most about metoo
Even if the allegations were true and he really was a shitty person to work with (personally I don't believe it), the fact that we'll never get new OSTs by him ever again is really upsetting.
A year or two ago I ran through Prophecies with /vg/ and had a blast. We played every mission together with real human players or henchmen if we didn't have a full party and the rules were nobody was allowed to use skills or heroes from the other expansions. It was by far the highlight of my year.

Nah FRICK NF I'm still mad 18 years later

muh strong and independant kormir saves the day >tons of side content
ah yes love my heroes arena.... oh wait >good endgame
ok one thing for NF but faction also had endgame content >parangons and dervish
Dervish was fricking broken on release, it only became kino when it got flash enchants reworked
Parangons was always broken and still is, it's literally a bot class at this point. "Wow dude don't you love just maintaining HR on all 8 members of your team?"

You guys don't even play the game.
There is an early quest drought on the island of Istan that you have to push through by grinding bounty mobs until you reach the Sunspear rank that allows you to unlock the rest of the island's quests.

Nightfall is the easiest leveling experience and getting the heroes early helps a lot. Paragon is the best class in the game, even though I was Derv main until that update in 2020.
I can't believe how bad Derv got shafted on the new elites compared to everyone else.
Anonymous
>Nightfall is the easiest leveling experience
You're 100% delusional. It is a total slog. Long ass quest, long ass travels, constant back and forth to pick up heroes and talk to NPCs, ALONG WITH A MANDATORY TITLE GRIND TO PROGRESS THROUGH THE CAMPAIGN
Meanwhile in Faction, you can be max level with the best armor in a couple of hours MAX, the main questline is streamlined and you "feel" like you're progressing because you're constantly moving forward rather than gravitate around a fricking sanctuary piece of shit forever
2 months ago
Anonymous
Factions also has "mandatory title grind" according to your logic ;/
2 months ago
Anonymous
Not on a character basis. You reach Rank 1 (one) on any character, even a Prophecy character, even a PvP character, and you're fricking good to go for as many alt characters as you like. This is account progression.
NF will have you do it again from the beginning for each fricking character.
Anonymous
You can get off noob island and be around level 18 in a day. Factions usually has you off the first island around level 15, no heroes, and has the mandatory "get 10k luxon/kurzick faction" part
2 months ago
Anonymous
>Factions usually has you off the first island around level 15
Yeah, in a couple hours, which sounds infinitely more attractive than wasting an entire day in fricking NF. You get all the attribute quests on the noob island. You leave the island lvl15 with all your attribute points, buy the kaineng armor and you're literally done. Considering the main quests give you thousands upon thousands of points, on top of coop missions full bonus being so easy to get since you just need to do the mission slightly faster, complete piece of cake and no loss of time. 3, 4 hours is all you need to build an alt from 1 to endgame-ready.
The faction grind is once per account, you can literally get it done with a temporary PvP character running a couple of JQs, takes half an hour top and you're done forever with it. you literally just have to join EotN to get max level heroes with next-to-best equipment, meanwhile NF heroes start at low level with trash gear.
Why are you NF people so eager to die on that hill?
NF is absolutely cancerous for alts compared to Faction, there's absolutely no contest, literally 0 (zero).
Anonymous
Everything you said applies to NF characters too. The bonus attribute points are easy to get, and you can even get max level armor BEFORE leaving Istan. Not to mention, you can put elite skills and use meta builds on your heroes rather than being stuck with henchmen
I don't understand why you insist on being so stupid. Plus, nothing changes that Paragon is the best class in the game.
Anonymous
>Long ass quest, long ass travels
but these are good things, and it takes MUCH longer to get to max level and max armor in Prophecies (without a skip) than it does in Nightfall
2 months ago

You had to kill mobs for like half an hour to get the last needed rank xp, but if you just fought every mob in your way while doing quests you'd have enough. Maybe you needed to reset the instance between quests but still, just playing the game and not rushing was enough.
Anonymous
I'm not saying it was a problem for me, it didn't take long. Sure it could have been handled better but I had to think really hard to remember this, and I don't remember others bringing this up either.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I've literally tried making a new NF character 3 months ago and this happened. I had forgotten why I didn't do a single NF character beyond my dervish when it released in almost 20 years, this must have been why.
Maybe you're overreacting? It's slower definitely I'll give you that. But then again you could run through Factions in a day, figuratively. Maybe it was their lousy attempt to find balance in pacing.
Anonymous
Yeah just mentioning it, I've got one character of each main class through all campaigns and the grind that dude complains about is at most an hour and only if you decide to not play the game and sprint past enemies, while knowing that killing them gives your rep xp.

Factions IS considerably shorter than the other two campaigns, and you do hit max level/max armor fairly quickly (pretty much right out of Shing Jea, although Nightfall was also pretty quick about hitting max level/max armor). Also the Jade Sea was pure sovl.

Shing Jea and Jade Sea are kino, so is Shiro Tagashi or whatever the boss' name is, Kaineng city itself is a mixed bag but everyone hung out at Shing Jea Monastery anyway.
Prophecies campaign is the best though, and EotN is absolute toxic garbage.
Nightfall is really good but they nerfed my man Paragon to obsolescence so it barely get a passing grade.

His plan made no sense until the Abaddon retcon. Why would he give up being an envoy? The other 4 couldn't do shit to stop him until he got his body back.

Shiro wanted to be a god, it's pretty simple.
He "gave up" on being an Envoy because it's a punishment for vile crimes commited in life.

He already had godly powers as envoy. He was forcing people to serve him in death and the others couldn't do anything about it.

This. Eotn was the downward spiral. Not really the gameplay, but the balance team stopped giving a frick, and just started nuking spells out of viability. So the meta was getting progressively stale. I assume most of the talented programmers/designers were moved to GW 2 at that point already.
>I assume most of the talented programmers/designers were moved to GW 2 at that point already.
There was no talent at any point of GW2, except maybe for concept artists.
>concept artists
GW2 is fricking trash, but the series has always been blessed with cool art. Daniel Dociu is awesome. He was also the face model for Father Grigori in HL2.
Eotn was supposed to transition into gw2 or some shit with a book to breach the wait. But then gw2 has nothing to do with gw1 at all? I don't even know man. Everyone in charge should be fired and never get a job in video games ever again.
maybe but the contrasts to the starting areas was quite enjoyable
it had the best intro cutscene also
its not like you spend most of your time in the sewers outside of campaign
it was mostly starting area or the stone forest that we camped around

what the frick am I going to do when GW goes offline forever?
it's like a part of me is stuck there forever, and the game disappearing would mean I'd never be whole again
oh you'll be fine
somehow people figured out how to bring classic Everquest back from the nether and you can play it just as it was (mostly)
they'll do it for GW1, too
>what the frick am I going to do when GW goes offline forever?
Will likely never happen, NCsoft has been very honest about how GW costs virtually nothing to run now, they have no reason to stop it, and they've already said they won't stop it as long as people keep playing it.
Plus most of the game really runs on your computer, the server doesn't do much. A solo mode could be made possible. It'll happen eventually.
I remember there being all sorts of problems because of linking GW1 and 2 through the hall thing, I can't even remember it's name. I don't think they can take gw1 down without causing issues, unless they fixed it updated it.
I was at gamescom when they showed off gw2 for the first time. I was a MASSIVE gw fan. I even got all the shit they gave out and stole all the ones I couldn't get while there.
Never even bought gw2. After hearing it's 1000 years in the future, had stupid tree people and completely different skill system.
Tahnnaki Temple after all the buffs to certain spells like RoJ/Elementalist rework/Mesmer skills is terrifying. Afflicted are fricking crazy now when they barely did anything back in the day besides blow up assassins.
>blow up assassins. >we have this new lightly armored melee class, should we make most of the enemies in our campaign explode upon death? >yes, obviously
>everyone wanted to play assassin and most people didn't know how to play it and used 0 defensive skills
Ah the glory days of AB were sins would run around with zero support skills besides death's charge and dash trying to 1v1 my necro.

Yeah, the build templates were the real loss last I reinstalled GW.
I had over a hundred across every profession for a whole bunch of setups.
Considering buying the trilogy but I've never really been able to get into MMOs since I am incapable of making friends. I've heard these games have NPCs you can play with is that accurate? Is it worth playing this way?
>I've heard these games have NPCs you can play with is that accurate? Is it worth playing this way?
Yeah, there are henchmen which come with their own skills and equipment and heroes whose skills and equipment you can customise.
GW was never a "real" MMO, it's a RPG first and foremost, nowadays you can do everything with your own team of CPU characters provided you build them right (which only really matters for the hardest content in the game)
I camped the outpost where runners started from for hours, joining many runners who let people join their practice runs for free. Eventually one got me to Droks for free and I was so happy.
Fond memories of random arena as a monk or ranger. Fond memories of the occasional balanced group fighting to try to take the hall of heroes. Fond memories of attacking Fort Aspenwood and shattering those protection enchants. Fond memories of the luxon vs kurzick pvp in general.
Used to run people in the desert as a ranger to the missions for 500g each but eventually had to go to just tips. Some wouldnt tip some would tip a few plat.
Wasnt good enough to run to droknars
I miss those days but they cant come back the world is empty and the pvp is gone and those who remain know every skill better than I do
Apparently the servers are super cheap to run, but who knows. I'm sure someone on the inside will "accidentally" leak the server code after the game goes down, like it happened for CoH and other stuff.

>you'll regret not having spend a bit more time with it
Yeah and guess what I wouldn't have that regret if they released a FRICKING OFFLINE PATCH so that I can continue playing a game I bought
It's also one of the last games I've bought a box for
Bought gw2 on release and tried to give it my best but it just wasn't the same. Sure it's beautiful visually but the combat and the way they framed the skills was a downgrade. Idk bros it just didn't feel the same.
Taking away dual classing and fricking over build variety, no body blocking, so many shitty things in GW 2. And the clear pandering to casuals, they just kept nerfing anything that was vaguely difficult, while also patching in hard limits for anyone who was good enough to push limits on grinding shit like fractals. A shitty game from a shitty company with shitty practices.
They are fundamentally different games.
GW1 is a strictly party based tactical combat game whereas GW2 is a much more solo oriented fighting game with optional party play.
I remember how everyone made fun of people obsessed with muh 1vs1 duels in GW1, and it often feels like ANet made GW2 specifically to cater to fricking Wammos known as Guardian players in GW2.
Little Monkie would sure as frick know what Mesmers do if she was on the other team. I fricking loved Healbot Blues.

I miss this game, someone needs to make a spiritual successor, every mission and zone plays like a dungeon in other MMOs with patrols and optional objectives. I remember when that dwarf place came out and you would make groups to farm different bosses/routes for the green items. Farming for the armor/money was a lot of fun too, I went back and played it a few years ago and it's very meta now with Ninjas speedrunning some routes so you got a full clear every time but it was still fun to see how it changed
NF is the worst expansion because 1/3 of the map requires the stupid junundu gimmick to navigate. that would have been cool for like one map but not an entire zone. the only good thing about the Desolation was it allowed you to farm the sunspear title. EOTN was much better since half the content in it wasn't designed to teach new players again.
Desolation has 2 missions out of the 20-something NF has and you only have to do one of them with the worms, which is more like half of a mission after you kill the queen. Getting the elite skill was dumb, but you're grossly over-exaggerating how long that part of the game was
looks pretty big to me. and no, being forced to walk on the small islands before being made to use the wurms again half a minute later can't count towards your argument.

So how'd you guys first get into Guild Wars?
Sister and her boyfriend played a lot of GW together. He bought Nightfall for me one christmas. My poorgay ass thanked him, as I was only used to playing WoW on shitty private servers which crashed every 15 minutes.
Saw Factions being reviewed on X-Play and thought it looked fricking cool. There was no subscription fee so I didn't need to have my parents credit card since they were kind of paranoid about that shit. I spent a whole fricking summer playing my Assassin. Good times.
I was in the videogame section of an electronics store looking for new shit to play, and the "no subscription" part caught my eyes because I was sort of interested in trying out something MMOish but hated the idea of having to pay monthly for it.
The rest, as they say, is history. I was also mad at Blizzard for dumping Warcraft in favour of WoW and would never, and have never, set foot in that game.

Sounds bizarre. Arenanet has notoriously good customer support and as long as you have your keys or at least even know one of your character names, then you'll be able to get your account back.
We've had all kinds of people retrieve their accounts over the past couple years in the /vm/ thread.
>Arenanet has notoriously good customer support

there's been abuse a few years ago to the point even fricking gayle gray got her account stolen because support was so lax they give it to some random schmuck pretending to be her
I'm aware of the story. Ah well, there exist outliers in every scenario.
I forgot there was an active /vm/ thread
if anyone claimed that plat edition, document this thread and if issues arise i'll drop an email with all the credentials and send it(the physical copy) if need be.

>GW got better with each expansion and patch until the trannies took over with EotN >GW2 was flawed on release and somehow got worse and worse with every single patch and expansion
How does this happen
how can it possibly have gotten worse? id imagine it wouldve gotten some skill diversity in 12 years, as well as maybe get rid off generic debuffs and introduce unique hex spells again
It do be tho, I somewhat enjoyed the game on release, and could see the potential, but they basically abandoned all the core systems, streamlined everything, refused to balance PvP or improve WvW, GvG is still not in the game, killed the exploration systems of the base game, they started introducing shitty raids that no one does, and basically the entire gameplay loop is running through the story that is basically an ESG pamphlet and then grinding the same fractals.
People are also extremely anal about everything.
The game also still runs like shit.
>Guild Wars 1 was quite unique gameplay wise >Sacrificed it to make Guild Wars 2, a game that doesn't feel like a Guild Wars game at all >Devs go out on their way to shit on the legacy of almost every single Guild Wars 1 characters
I recently started a solo run as necromancer on the prophecies campaign.
I believe the final mission in pre-searing requires you to have henchmen in your party, otherwise I did everything solo.
I played mostly blood-necro with lifesteal and such. Death-necro was too chaotic and fast-paced for me.
Spent a good while in pre-searing farming stuff, so was probably level 8-9 when I got to post-searing.
I got absolutely destroyed by the charr. I was able to solo Fort Ranik at level 13 or something, but it took hours because I often had to bait one by one. Eventually decided to just frick it and made a run for Yak's Bend. Remember dying a few times to the Meteors from the Hydras. After Yak's Bend I tried doing Boril's Pass solo, but failed. Instead I ran north through Iron Horse Mine all the way to Ice Tooth Cave. From here I was level 15-17 or something, just strong enough to run past all the Yetti and Shiverpeaks. Somehow made it to Lions Arch. Then I reached lvl 20, acquired lots of new skills, and got +60 armor, which made progress a lot easier. I did What Lies Beneath solo and made it to Eye of The North. I also made it to Factions and Nightfall. My most recent accomplishment was completing Sanctum Cay and getting my character all the way to the Crystal Desert. Currently I'm trying to reach Droknars Forge, but unable due to all the enemies being level 20-22. Any tips for getting there?
Many of the desert missions seem like they would either be improbable or impossible on solo necro without exploiting the AI or something. Assassin and Dervish, and to some extent warrior, have enough baked-in tanking that they can solo most content with enough effort and time, and I have seen Joseph Spivy's solo stuff, but I'm not sure necro has what you need to do it. It's possible you might be able to run down from Beacon's with consumables and EotN skills but it'd be very tricky even for people who have regularly made that run on meta classes. I'd look up solo attempts of those desert missions to see if there's any sort of bug or build you can exploit.
Or you could become /rit and do spirit spam. That allows most professions to solo anything with enough time.
all of it thanks to nightfall, not in hardmode though. unless theyve removed the 4 hero limit, then maybe hard mode too
you take a full party of heroes now and there are team comps specifically for soloing hard mode
All campaign content and non-elite sidequests were soloable with 3 heroes and 4 henchmen on hardmode even before they massively buffed class pve skills
Did it all as highly damage-gimped elementalist main.
When game came out your henchmen npc's had one of the worst skill sets and ai I've seen. However, later they did fix henchmen ai and skil sets, and as well have added heroes. You can solo whole game, but some missions are easier/harder depending on your class and eq.
>WvW maps
man what a shitty fricking mode. outside of not even working for most of the game's lifespan because the engine couldn't properly load that many models at once, it always ended up being a zerg rush despite how many revisions they tried to pull. the pvp in GW2 never took off.
The Factions Championship had a 100.000 dollar prize pool and the finals were played during a games convention in Germany.
Shit felt pretty big for the time. Goddamn Koreans dabbing on everyone.
Update -- February 15, 2024

Factions Theme
Nightfall Theme
Eye of the North Theme
Various pieces of ambient music
It got caught in a bad spot where the casuls would rather play more standard themepark MMOs, and the sweathards moved on to ASShomosexuals like Heroes of Neverth.
For me at least, Guild Wars was special because you could be both a casul and a sweathard and have shitloads of fun.
>Heroes of Neverth
I miss Heroes of Newerth. There was definitely a gap between anything GW -> HoN as HoN came out a few years later. The pipeline would have been dota, or other MMOs first.
Yeah, HoN was later than GW, but that's what I meant about GW sweats moving on to it.
I recall a lot of them hyping HoN in the late GW era when they were getting fed up with absolute state of the game and Izzy's attempts at balance.
Guild Wars collapsed on itself because EoTN was trash, reliance on heroes killed group play slowly, and Anet murdered PvP by letting bomb eles and morons mesmers one shot people for years because they abandoned active balancing of the game.
Majority of people went to guilds and did missions with guild members. Pugs were a hit and miss most of the time. I wouldn't say GW collapsed, but thanks to things like Ursan run or heroes, series became way easier. I do remember how braindead ursan ran's were.
I completely forgot about the moronation of ursan shit.
Anet willingly killed Anet because they hated the game and the players, not to mention the Asura.
>I do remember how braindead ursan ran's were.
I wish I still had the screenshot of my necro tanking 100+ instances of SS in FoW during the height of ursan. Shit was stupid how bad it and cons broke pve.
>thanks to things like Ursan run
You just made me remember when it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to clear any kind of content in pugs if you didn't display your maxed norn title. This is the reason that I stopped caring about GW group content and chose other games instead because I wasn't autist enough to care about grinding EotN titles beyond what was required to unlock the armorers. Sad times.
Heroes may have ended the strict focus on always being part of a team with other players, but at least you still had to understand the basics of the game and prepare builds.
Ursanway just threw everything out of the window, and I still don't know what the frick they were thinking.
I tried it like once and was immediately like "well, this is certainly effective, but not at all why I play GW".
Girls who will drain you of your life force until you're a withered corpse and then resurrect you as a zombie servant to do their bidding? Me too anon, me too...
Guild politicking at the high water point of Factions was wild. Alliances poaching guilds to oust the HZH/Cavalon owners, corrupt officers charging big bucks for Urgoz/Deep taxis, clever entrepreneurs reselling the VIP lounge's lockpicks to actually good players for 100k profit a trade. Factions taught me capitalism.
>que up on RA as shock axe >fly through the 50 matches in RA, get send to TA >still get a dozen wins somehow
no modern game gives that amount of satisfaction
My first guild enemy as a kid was a smug ranger male homosexual that kept belittling me because I was like 14 and he was 16 with a car
I have since hated every single ranger male in the entire game and actively kicked them when I was doing pug groups
i remember dominating chuds with a beast master ranger towards the end of the games life when gw2 was about to come out. that shit was insanely overpowered
I liked heroes.
They were your personal pokeyman army to try out various combinations on.
Great to quickly get some healers for missions with other players if there are no monks around as well.
yes, don't listen to the seething here
GW2 is a fun game with a terrible story, so exactly like GW1 in that respect
but also like GW1 you can ignore the story if you want
WvW is fun and the only other game that provides an experience like it is ESO which has the worst combat system ever implemented in a video game
No. Main story is one of the most boring shit I've seen. Living story is just homosexual circus full of crippled furries are trying to have sex with dwarf ghosts.
I mean, I guess
Part 1 of the story is serviceable even though not stellar, part 2 with treedude is weird but tolerable, everything after the main playthrough aka "living story" and expansions are random troons and landwhales trying to slap their epic fanfiction self-inserts into the GW lore
it's a weird sort of thing, on one hand, yeah it's very typical modern game dev but through this reall weird single cat lady lens
but then they add tons of coomer skins
>tfw going to whatever ice shithole was in EotN to earn legendary survivor (1m xp without dying), restarting multiple times after dying in that brawl minigame or whatever it was
In hindsight that may have been autistic, not even a great title
are the heroes any good if you give them proper builds? i like playing a healing monk but frick knows if relying on heroes to deal all the damage is a bad idea
Yes, you can even force them to target priority targets so each fight isn't a slog with them ignoring the monks in the backline. With a good team comp and builds you can do 90% of pve with heroes without doing anything other than calling targets and making sure they don't group up in AoEs.
I think they're both good, but obviously they are not the same game
love GW1 but oftentimes people forget the questionable status of it in Prophecies because the world wasn't ready for a PvP focused game
another anon mentioned how there was a forced arena fight leaving prophecies, stuff like that got phased out because it drove away casual players and then each subsequent expansion became more PvE focused, and Nightfall even had the bandaid fix for the ailing population with Heroes, basically turning it into a real time strategy RPG you play by yourself
>that End of Dragons reveal livestream watch-party where he realizes halfway through the announcement that he doesn't care about GW2, becomes depressed and starts rambling how GW2 sucks
Its kinda funny how originally anet also wanted to make a WoW-clone before realizing they didn't have the money or resources so they made gw1 instead. Then once they had a genuine success on their hands they decided to make gw2 a WoW-clone instead of building on it.
Pretty sure it's just very rare
I think the only "unique" items are those with more than 2 mods which only dropped in the very dark ages of early guild wars
>implying dancing assassin girls aren't the cutest
Ritualists are hot and have big booba but their dance is shit, and it shows the uncanny, endless untextured void under their robes too
>join a legit guild in factions >actually own one of the outposts, one with a tower >during one of the attempted takeovers, the AI gets bugged and keeps chasing each other around the tower >all the players join in for a giant merry-go-round around the tower
alt >one of the EotN updates bugged buying runes of vigor from the NPCs >there's an immediate black market for them, becoming their own ecto-type currency >takes like 2 weeks to fix, by then I've made a shitton of money >still have a few people buying/selling them black market because they never read the patch notes
what the frick am I going to do when GW goes offline forever?
it's like a part of me is stuck there forever, and the game disappearing would mean I'd never be whole again
guild wars for me was FA and AB and RA and fricking around in random towns with random parties going out to do random missions. i don't care at all about heroes or soloing. it died a long time ago.
could run it the other way too. it died on launch of factions. nika was so fricking hot and then it turns out no ritualists get the boobs and meat, assassins only get skin and bones, RUINED
I still have access to my main account, but only when I use my phone as a router for some reason
If I try to connect through my domestic network, I get the 2FA meme, and the mail address used to register at the time was my dad's, from an ISP that disappeared 10 years ago
Is it possible to ask the support to "unlock" my account so that I don't have to use my phone every time I want to fricking play the game? Or does it already sound shady as frick?
I bought the trilogy, don't know when I'll ever play it, though. When you buy it on Steam you can add the game key it to your old account. I never had the expansions and it let me add them to my very old account.
I got them to change my account email through support. I provided an image of my GW2 key that was attached to my account, though.
I'm unironically afraid they'd think I'm a hacker or something because it does sound fricking dumb
if you contact them, and can provide information they -should- work with you. tell them exactly what is happening. the only thing is, they might reset the account and you lose everything..
I cannot provide the informations, it's too old, for some reason I can connect in-game just fine through my mobile's internet, but I can't connect to the account page on Anet's website so I can't check the account details
i'm a new GW2 player that never played 1. i think GW2 is a pretty good game and maybe GW1 vets are blinded by preconceptions of what it should be. like if it didn't have guild wars in the name i bet more people would enjoy it.
the open world is done especially well compared to pretty much every other MMO i've ever played. mounts are really cool too.
storywise i only got to the end of the personal story and i enjoyed about half of it. once the pact got started with trahearne it was way too fast paced so everything started to fall flat - kind of like GoT season 8. hopefully it picks up again in the living world seasons.
the dungeons are great. fun to explore. the overarching side story about destiny's edge got me interested in tyria in general so I'm thinking about getting into GW1 because I'm told GW2 shits on its lore somehow.
>blinded by preconceptions
its a completely, and i do mean completely (gw1 is not even an mmo really) different game. its no wonder fans of the first game dont care for it
i mean every complaint i've seen is basically >combat isn't like gw1 >lore isn't like gw1
but not having played gw1 i don't think the way gw2 did things so far is that bad
GW2 is great, but the content updates are just way too slow. If you get into now you have thousands of hours of great content. Once you catch up on content it kinda sucks, but at least it's fun until you get to that point.
that seems to be a running theme with most MMOs i get into lately
>but not having played gw1 i don't think the way gw2 did things so far is that bad
having only eaten shit all my life, I don't think shit tastes that bad
GW2 is great, but the content updates are just way too slow. If you get into now you have thousands of hours of great content. Once you catch up on content it kinda sucks, but at least it's fun until you get to that point.
honestly a bunch of this stuff seems very nit picky >caring about loading bars in 2024
i would like a fully customizable UI though
>but not having played gw1 i don't think the way gw2 did things so far is that bad
having only eaten shit all my life, I don't think shit tastes that bad
it's not like i've never played an MMO or other video games before? do you think guild wars 1 is the only good game in existence?
>honestly a bunch of this stuff seems very nit picky
really the main points are A) gw2 lacks skills and build customisation which bleeds into B) it only has generic debuffs and enhancements. you wouldnt get it if you never played gw1. really boring stuff, its like a hundred steps back in terms of game design
Its like going from playing mtg with multiple playstyles, different color combinations, hard counters, and combos that can break the game in specific circumstances to early yugioh were all you see is efficient normal monsters like summon skull trying to burst things down. Its such a downgrade at every level of play that it is almost staggering.
The reason people who played it love GW1 so much is because of nostalgia no doubt, on top of GW1 being a good game
However people don't need to be nostalgiagays to hate what GW2 is >the overarching side story about destiny's edge got me interested in tyria in general
Yeah if you like GW2's lore and story, GW1 clearly isn't for you because you've been raised on tumblr fantasy while GW1's is just dumb cheesy 80s fantasy flick ala Conan the Barbarian movie
Anon, I finished original story for GW2 and played a bit Living Story stuff. All of it is shit compared to original GW1. >hurr durr hero dwarf is suddenly gay >hurr durr we need this trans npc because reasons >hurr durr we need more homosexual pairing >hurr durr Scarlet is great because she is a WOMAN!
No
They call her a monster, yet at the same time you're constantly reminded how much of a prodigy she is through the entirety of the quest, how fast she mastered the crafts other asurans take decades to perfect, how incredible it is that she managed to unite all those belligerent factions together, etc...
It's just so transparent
The writing is too shit and the content too thin and vapid to be considered good by anyone with common sense. They have a solid framework but ruined it how everything ties into the "living story". Did you play during scarlet's bullshit? How did you like that extremely forced lesbian kiss? I'm gay and I found that scene fricking garbage. How about replacing the original team with Diversity's edge?
I like how GW2 is supposedly le hecking wholesome gayme with a friendly community, yet its raiding scene was by FAR the most toxic I have ever seen, and I have played a shit ton of popular MMOs (WoW, Aion, TERA, FFXIV, BnS...)
Literally the only community that's worse on this regard was (is?) Lost Ark's
Armor designs are shit in GW2 and end-game in GW1 was purely fashion based because you could get max stat armor so early, all the other sets were just to look different/better. GW2 is shit based on that alone. Plus the entire appeal of GW1 was that its missions and zones were curated instead of being soulless open world like other MMOs, I still have great memories of doing Thunderhead Keep with my friends for the first time and getting bonuses on all the missions. Also how terrifying Mursaat were before you got the armor blessings. Oh and Necromancer in GW1 is still the best Necromancer class in any MMO ever
gw2 is build-based in comparison to gw1 in the same way that deus ex is an fps in comparison to doom. one clearly focuses on the aspect in question more than the other
>it's not build based because it's just not
it's literally a core focus of how the game plays
I already said in a previous post but GW2 armor looks like shit compared to GW1 because they started censoring it and making it intentionally ugly, also it's not per-class which probably plays a part in it
>censored
there are waaaaaay more coomer skins in GW2 than GW1 ever had, GW2 also has a lot of bad skins, it just has a LOT of skins
>there are waaaaaay more coomer skins in GW2 than GW1 ever had, GW2 also has a lot of bad skins, it just has a LOT of skins
That's just not true, you can only make that argument for light armor, there's like 1 for heavy and 1 for medium

you've clearly not played in a long time
>>it's not build based because it's just not
that's not what i said. are you being disingenuous on purpose? the point was, as i already said, that one game focuses on the aspect way more than the other. you already admitted to never playing gw1, why are you even arguing about this? i do have hundreds of hours in gw2, my dislike for it doesnt came form the ether
I'm not the same person, I played a lot of GW1, but GW2 is entirely build focused, it's a CORE ASPECT of the game

>it's a CORE ASPECT of the game
gw1 is offers much more viable customisation and again youre just being disingenuous on purpose if you deny that

I don't even like customization, I don't see why muh customization automatically makes it better. Customization in an MMO just makes shit unbalanced.

GW1 offers more customization, but is it viable? not really, no, that's why PvXwiki exists because there's a very clear, defined meta of what works and what doesn't

Do different builds actually matter in gw2 now, or is still just different flavors of straight dps and condition spam based dps?
>>it's not build based because it's just not

The only gripes I have with GW2 is its inconsistency toward cosmetics. The last time I logged in I unironically thought I downloaded the wrong client and found myself in Second Life : 80% female characters, wedding dresses so luminous they burn through your retina and glittering angel wings, groups of thots in "modern" clothes with baseball caps, skintight jeans and leather jackets, silly neon-colored tumblr haircuts, absolutely disgusting rainbow toy weapons throwing a billion SFX per second....
Meanwhile the environments are all muddied, brown and gray which only emphasizes the colored eyesores running around on flying carpets and smiling minecraft clouds
Absolutely revolting
I already said in a previous post but GW2 armor looks like shit compared to GW1 because they started censoring it and making it intentionally ugly, also it's not per-class which probably plays a part in it
GW2 has some great quality-of-life features for the MMO genre and the best mounts. Too bad it's a chore to play and the story will not get better. If you do end up going back to play GW1, you'll see how often they revisit old lore just to butcher it.
I miss it so... bros... take me back to Kamadan...
I love it so much bros, but it's been years since I last picked it up... I just wish someone continued the reverse engineering of the server...
official servers are still up though...
Yeah, but I don't trust they're going to always keep it goint, and I spent 5000+ hours on it.
>Yeah, but I don't trust they're going to always keep it goint, and I spent 5000+ hours on it.
got me curious mfker... tell me memories of these 5000 PLZ
Unironically play while you still can. It's one of those actual master pieces that are 2nd to none. It still has people too. Just ignore the 2nd game completely
huh, this looks like it plays more like kotor online than swtor does. how interesting.
For me it's Yak's Bend.
I saw the ads for it every day since it came out on our Game Network, and two years after it was released I saw it on a random store when I was on holiday. It was like 50€ so I was like what the hell, let's buy it!
Anet said it's so cheap to keep GW1 servers up they don't even factor the cost into their budget.
Anet said in one newsletter that gw1 servers cost less than gw2 chat server
I heard about the gw1 costing a lot less, but not less than the fricking chat server, that's amazing
the performance is not so amazing
GW2 is built like total shit its a wonder the game even functions
Yeah, and did you see how beautiful GW still is and how mediocre GW2 looks? Gw.dat is like 4 gigs while Gw2.dat is 52 GiB.
>I don't trust they're going to always keep it goin
What in the tardloving frick
>game has been obsolete for 12 years
>12 years later, servers are still running
>all the other mmos in that time frame were born into existence and summarily terminated
>gw1 is still going
>BuT i DoNt KnOw HoW lOnG tHeYrE gOnNa KeEp It GoInG
holy frick you people are stupid. Please keep away from guild wars like you already are
It's a mess for players outside of the US though, I'm European and I average 300 ping
for GW1? pretty sure they used to have EU districts
>every time
the gw1 edit will never stop making me lel
I used to roll EU districts..back then..from the easy coast and get decent pings.
if I had the game.dat saved i'd upload it.
hint, you can save it on a storage device and just copy/paste.
maybe a vpn would help if you have access to one.
>easy
east**
does the game run that badly? i was just in the process of finding my old cd keys to recover an account
The game runs fine, it's just the ping that's fricked.
Maybe you'll be luckier than me an I'm just a chucklefrick though
Works perfectly well in Poland
>I'm European and I average 300 ping
wot?
Now join the US districts where most people play.
not him but why? you dont even need to be in the same server to be looking for a group or trade, right?
Why would I? When I want to play JQ everyone gets smushed into the same server anyway.
I can't read "Kamadan" without my brain autistically adding "JEWEL OF ISTAN" in my head
won what?
>tfw never going to play the troonyfest that gw2 is
Reminder that Jeremy Soule is the greatest western composer to this day and he did nothing wrong.
what did it win? Can someone fricking explain?
It's just seasonal sale, you can get the complete 3 expansions + EotN pack for like 10 eurobucks
>bought the GW trilogy for 15$ (used to be 30$ without sale on steam)
man now I feel robbed
>wanted to play because of nostalgia
>stopped after 10 hours
It's just not that fun without friends. no this wasn't an invitation.
you kinda need to want to play it. The ost is made by the same composer as morrowind. The whole vibe of the game is very similar too because of it.
Yeah I know.
Jeremy Soule was the composer of my childhood.
Jeremy SOVL rape allegations were false because of ROASTIES, and we also know that if he did RAPE (which he deserves), it made him a better composer.
Legit the thing that upset me the most about metoo
Even if the allegations were true and he really was a shitty person to work with (personally I don't believe it), the fact that we'll never get new OSTs by him ever again is really upsetting.
rapists should be punished, actually
A year or two ago I ran through Prophecies with /vg/ and had a blast. We played every mission together with real human players or henchmen if we didn't have a full party and the rules were nobody was allowed to use skills or heroes from the other expansions. It was by far the highlight of my year.
Where?
7,50 on steam rn apparently
NF killed the game unironically
nah eye of the north did UNIRONICALLY
No really
NF killed the game
EotN merely nailed the coffin
NF was the best xpac though so nah
>mandatory title grind
>mandatory heroes
>cringe gurlboss campaign
>stupid lore retcon
>100% PVE focus
>boring setting
>oh look you want the island desert or the rock desert or the other rock desert?
Nah FRICK NF I'm still mad 18 years later
It was kino setting, great campaign tons of side content and good endgame. Nah frick off you didn't play the game. It also gave us paragons and dervishes which are the most kino classes in any mmo
b***h I started 1 month after the original guild wars release, back when you still had an arena fight against actual players to go from eden to post-furnace tarscalon
>kino setting
again, no, I don't care about visiting a billion desertic rocky landscape, frick off
>great campaign
muh strong and independant kormir saves the day
>tons of side content
ah yes love my heroes arena.... oh wait
>good endgame
ok one thing for NF but faction also had endgame content
>parangons and dervish
Dervish was fricking broken on release, it only became kino when it got flash enchants reworked
Parangons was always broken and still is, it's literally a bot class at this point. "Wow dude don't you love just maintaining HR on all 8 members of your team?"
Did YOU fricking play the game, anon?
NF native characters CANNOT progress through the campaign if they don't grind their sunspear / lightbringer ranks
you just have shit taste anon. Can't help you out there.
>NF babbies getting uppity
>again
Man this expansion really brought the worst of the worst upon this game, first heroes and then those "people"... GW really didn't have a chance.
Try coming up with an actual largument.
And for the record, I'm a FactionsChad
I already listed my arguments, read the thread GW2bab
>GW2bab
What is it talking about?
>everyone calls him moronic
>no u
imagine being a grown as Black person and acting like that
>everyone
hhhehehehe
>look mom I'm pretending to be moronic on the internet like in the good old times
whatever troony
it sure comes in handy that the IP counter is gone right?
yeah we only posted 2 secounds appart but whatever you absolute troony
>troony troony troony
no u
Gwen was so cute. Hated the gary stu boyfriend they tossed at her in EotN. Kieran Thackeray I think the homosexuals name was? Insufferable. An omen for what GW2 writing would be
>NF native characters CANNOT progress through the campaign if they don't grind their sunspear / lightbringer ranks
And you get the necessary required rank just by playing the game, not even doing all the available quests.
Explain why I got stuck farming FRICKING SCALES to be allowed to leave the tutorial area then?
I completed pretty much all of the quests, except that one quest where you have to gather 4 or 5 items with abysmal drop rates from random mobs all across the island
>Explain why I got stuck
Not my problem.
I accept your concession
The frick? I don't remember ever having to stop and grind for anything in GW campaigns. The only thing I was grinding was platinum by running people trough to droknars forge.
>The frick? I don't remember ever having to stop and grind for anything in GW campaigns.
Yeah but that one braindead guy GOT STUCK so obviously that means you're forced to grind.
You guys don't even play the game.
There is an early quest drought on the island of Istan that you have to push through by grinding bounty mobs until you reach the Sunspear rank that allows you to unlock the rest of the island's quests.
I didn't have that problem. Just did every quest I could find, no grinding necessary.
>You guys don't even play the game.
truuu
I think I remember this? You had to run around that starting fortress and around the cove killing mobs for the sunspear rank no?
Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I've literally tried making a new NF character 3 months ago and this happened. I had forgotten why I didn't do a single NF character beyond my dervish when it released in almost 20 years, this must have been why.
Nightfall is the easiest leveling experience and getting the heroes early helps a lot. Paragon is the best class in the game, even though I was Derv main until that update in 2020.
I can't believe how bad Derv got shafted on the new elites compared to everyone else.
Factions also has "mandatory title grind" according to your logic ;/
Not on a character basis. You reach Rank 1 (one) on any character, even a Prophecy character, even a PvP character, and you're fricking good to go for as many alt characters as you like. This is account progression.
NF will have you do it again from the beginning for each fricking character.
You can get off noob island and be around level 18 in a day. Factions usually has you off the first island around level 15, no heroes, and has the mandatory "get 10k luxon/kurzick faction" part
>Long ass quest, long ass travels
but these are good things, and it takes MUCH longer to get to max level and max armor in Prophecies (without a skip) than it does in Nightfall
You had to kill mobs for like half an hour to get the last needed rank xp, but if you just fought every mob in your way while doing quests you'd have enough. Maybe you needed to reset the instance between quests but still, just playing the game and not rushing was enough.
I'm not saying it was a problem for me, it didn't take long. Sure it could have been handled better but I had to think really hard to remember this, and I don't remember others bringing this up either.
Maybe you're overreacting? It's slower definitely I'll give you that. But then again you could run through Factions in a day, figuratively. Maybe it was their lousy attempt to find balance in pacing.
Yeah just mentioning it, I've got one character of each main class through all campaigns and the grind that dude complains about is at most an hour and only if you decide to not play the game and sprint past enemies, while knowing that killing them gives your rep xp.
>goalpost
>goalpost
>oh look I moved the goalpost again
Gotta love how it went from "it doesn't exist", to "lol just do the quests", to "omg sure it exists but it's literally just an hour why are you complaining"
Might be why I didn't have any issues ever. I would explore the areas with my chars, and I doubt I made more than 1 per DLC, since my guild was nearly completely just PvP oriented.
>an arena fight against actual players
those were some good times. must've been back in '05 or '06. I remember ending up staying in pre and just hanging out by the staircase. spent hours upon hours farming the dyes. my ign was In Winter
>b***h I started 1 month after the original guild wars release, back when you still had an arena fight against actual players to go from eden to post-furnace tarscalon
oh frick anon i completly forgot about that but you're right
but still NF was ok but the issue was that faction was perfect kino
having to navigate Kaineng with the Afflicted was very much NOT kino
I can agree that Kaineng had moments that were indeed anti-fun
also replacing bonus missions with simple time requirements for Master's was dumb
Well at least someone in here is still fricking sane. It's crazy seeing anyone put Factions on a pedestal, shit dragged on way more than Nightfall EVER frickin did lol. Then again I never tried to speedrun that xpac, I played through normally twice and that was one time too many
Factions IS considerably shorter than the other two campaigns, and you do hit max level/max armor fairly quickly (pretty much right out of Shing Jea, although Nightfall was also pretty quick about hitting max level/max armor).
Nightfall is really good but they nerfed my man Paragon to obsolescence so it barely get a passing grade.
>so is Shiro Tagashi or whatever the boss' name is
His plan made no sense until the Abaddon retcon. Why would he give up being an envoy? The other 4 couldn't do shit to stop him until he got his body back.
I'll admit he looks cool and that trailer was great, but like what the frick was his plan?
Shiro wanted to be a god, it's pretty simple.
He "gave up" on being an Envoy because it's a punishment for vile crimes commited in life.
He already had godly powers as envoy. He was forcing people to serve him in death and the others couldn't do anything about it.
He gave them up and became mortal again for like 5 minutes, and the other envoys were able to send him to hell once he lost those powers.
Kind of funny how paragons were pretty much shit for majority of time, until AN finally had buffed their asses to the point of being number 1 support party members for Hard Mode stuff.
>spoiler

lore retcon
What?
Abaddon corrupted both Khilbron and Shiro
>cringe gurlboss campaign
Wat. Varesh was a brainwashed pawn of Abaddon, and if you mean the big titty brownfu you get as a hero early on, she ends up married to Koss.
Right. I don't know how I forgot.
Wait, I do. And I wish I could forget again.
DAMMIT KORMIR
>cringe girlboss campaign
Kormir was either in hospice or in the shadow realm for at least 2/3rds of the campaign, and she doesn't even do anything when she's around except at the very end, when she gives Abaddon a hug when he's about to explode. Omg girlboss fricking woke agenda ruining another game
frick off Black person
About the only thing that connected the two was raping of lore.
Games are like yin and yang. GW2 has to be the first true woke game before woke was even known.
ye it was around NF that most of the guys i was playing this game with started dropping it
everyone loved factions but NF felt like a scam that was only made to force meta skills you would have to buy
factions had a terrible campaign that ramped up way too quick to max level and half of it was shitty looking cities and sewers
maybe but the contrasts to the starting areas was quite enjoyable
it had the best intro cutscene also
its not like you spend most of your time in the sewers outside of campaign
it was mostly starting area or the stone forest that we camped around
>Make sequel
>Shares literally nothing in common with the original.
I hate Anet so much.
There won't go by a day without me spitting on gw2 and it's troony devs and playerbase

no one did bawds as good before or since
Kek I don't even know how long ago I saved this picture, what were the odds that the random person that posted it first would be online just in time to see this thread?
The memes were right, we really are here forever ;_;
i posted it once in 2020. i know i haven't posted it since then cause im the ITS BEEN 15 YEARS AND THERE'S *STILL* NO NIKA PORN poster and 2020 was the year i started getting good at drawing. but i haven't gotten good enough to do what i want (nika porn) when i want it so i haven't posted in guild wars threads since.
what the frick am I going to do when GW goes offline forever?
it's like a part of me is stuck there forever, and the game disappearing would mean I'd never be whole again
oh you'll be fine
somehow people figured out how to bring classic Everquest back from the nether and you can play it just as it was (mostly)
they'll do it for GW1, too
>what the frick am I going to do when GW goes offline forever?
Will likely never happen, NCsoft has been very honest about how GW costs virtually nothing to run now, they have no reason to stop it, and they've already said they won't stop it as long as people keep playing it.
Plus most of the game really runs on your computer, the server doesn't do much. A solo mode could be made possible. It'll happen eventually.
I remember there being all sorts of problems because of linking GW1 and 2 through the hall thing, I can't even remember it's name. I don't think they can take gw1 down without causing issues, unless they fixed it updated it.
>no one did bawds as good before or since
Good taste. I think night elves were pretty good too, but yeah, nothing else comes close.
>girl in dress

what was your favourite city for hanging out? Bergen Hot Springs or Eredon Terrace for me
Fishermans Haven was my guilty pleasure. People would sometimes hang there out too.
It's on sale right now too
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=guild+wars
I still play it from time to time. Good thing that most of the content can be easily cleared solo
I completely lost interest into GW2 when I learned there wouldn't be a monk class
Didn't help that on release everyone wanted to play assassin and most people didn't know how to play it and used 0 defensive skills.
>everyone wanted to play assassin and most people didn't know how to play it and used 0 defensive skills
Ah the glory days of AB were sins would run around with zero support skills besides death's charge and dash trying to 1v1 my necro.
Crippling xNarutoAssassin69x in Fort Asswood and watching him trying to limp up to your ranger while spewing shit about you no fighting honourably was peak Guild Wars.
>tfw RA as a crit axe assassin
>tfw nobody on the enemy team has any enchant rips
>tfw win the 1v4 because I constantly crit their monk and remove his defense with the stance removal skill that warriors get
>>tfw win the 1v4 because I constantly crit their monk and remove his defense with the stance removal skill that warriors get
I remember taking Wild Blow as assassin vs rangers and they were mind blown you could do that.
>FA
what was that?
Friendly Arena 🙂
Fort Aspenwood
Wheres the default location of gw screenshots?
c drive -> username -> documents -> guild wars
Damn, I think my 500+ screens are lost forever...
I cried when I lost all my build templates
I'm trying to recover my account, need authenticator removed from the account but I got the gw2 cd key so should be good when they get back to me. Then I'm planning on playing this shit solo
nice
I still have mine.
I had them saved to an old lexar thumb drive and lost the drive. it was great editing them and linking your skill bar with all elites.
oh and drawing pps on the minimap
that was classic
Yeah, the build templates were the real loss last I reinstalled GW.
I had over a hundred across every profession for a whole bunch of setups.
wew lad, she IS teh seksi
I learned what a weeaboo narutard was thanks to factions.
NPCs that you can hire are enough to beat the game but you might need heroes to beat shit on hard mode
GW was never a "real" MMO, it's a RPG first and foremost, nowadays you can do everything with your own team of CPU characters provided you build them right (which only really matters for the hardest content in the game)
LFR to DROKS from Beacon, paying 2k
I camped the outpost where runners started from for hours, joining many runners who let people join their practice runs for free. Eventually one got me to Droks for free and I was so happy.
I ran people for free and took all day because I sucked and had to step away to help my mom with things.
I miss those days but they cant come back the world is empty and the pvp is gone and those who remain know every skill better than I do
>mfw they nerfed 55 monk
Did they? I ran it last week like always farming goldies for title
>popped my healing seed at the right moment during HoH and saved the game
*blocks your path*
I want to go back...
You can still play the game...
They also recently updated the game and put the old menu music back into the login screen
>You can still play the game...
For how long?
I wish they'd release an offline patch that allows you to play after Anet pulls the plug
gw2troons still pay the bill
Apparently the servers are super cheap to run, but who knows. I'm sure someone on the inside will "accidentally" leak the server code after the game goes down, like it happened for CoH and other stuff.
Wasn't the game server supposed to run until 2050? That's what I heard like a decade ago.
It's for my own piece of mind
You can't count on any corporation to keep games alive no matter what they say, especially fricking ANet
one day it will be gone and you'll regret not having spend a bit more time with it
>you'll regret not having spend a bit more time with it
Yeah and guess what I wouldn't have that regret if they released a FRICKING OFFLINE PATCH so that I can continue playing a game I bought
It's also one of the last games I've bought a box for
It's not the same... I'm no longer a teenager who got excited over killing a boss and then bragged to friends that I got elite skill
I remember how everyone made fun of people obsessed with muh 1vs1 duels in GW1, and it often feels like ANet made GW2 specifically to cater to fricking Wammos known as Guardian players in GW2.
>unsheathes Q13 Fiery Dragon Sword
>self-casts mending

Yep, it's gaming time.

Don't forget having "OMG NOOB MONK Y U NO HEAL" ready on your clipboard for a quick ctrl-v into chat.
Little Monkie would sure as frick know what Mesmers do if she was on the other team.
I fricking loved Healbot Blues.
Mesmers don't do anything, except for make sure that nobody else does anything, either. Which is often better than doing something.
Without Mesmers, your Warriors are never going to punch through a remotely competent enemy Monk pair, at least not in a humanly acceptable match time.
Without Mesmers, Guild Wars would have been a mistake.
I remember taking Shield Bash on a Mo/W in RA and basking in impotent Assassin seethe when they got their lead attack put on cooldown.
feel like I got whiplash from seeing these, completely forgot this comic existed

(it's a virus)
Permasins were stupid and ruined fun buildcrafting and trivialized endgame.
Why would they ever let that fat israeli sub 89iq moron be in charge of game balance? He couldn't even type correctly.
Corsair Seaman
I can't believe this troony got filtered by NF lol.
The most disappointing thing about Guild Wars is that Guild Wars 2 followed it.
I would play it again with bros, but no longer any wanna play it. Sad.
I would play it again with bros, but no longer any bros. Sad.
Would you guys play it with bros? I would play it again with bros, but no longer any. Sad.

at least the ghosts of Ascalon can take some enjoyment in watching the entire charr culture turn into degeneracy
I have game installed, just no time atm.
>Mission where you get the wurms
>Mission where you kill Varesh
That's all you do there. Stop acting like this is a major part of the game.
brothers and sisters, I have something for you.
>be me
>doing some cleaning
>well well what have we here
>fell behind the shelf, little fella?
>been there for how many years?
anyways, I don't play anymore (and I have quite a few accounts) it's new, sealed in box ready to be opened and iirc scratched off and claimed. I suggest if you are interested, if you do not have an ANET account, make one. I think you have to do this on the GW2/Anet site now. it includes the OG guild wars and EOTN (Eye of the North). I can not remember if keys work globally, this was bought years ago from newegg, in the USA.
I do still have my boxes and cd's in basement with all games and expansions. Even booklets and that huge manual faction had.
Nice, I gave all that stuff away quite some time ago, had the collector's editions, pins. tshirts etc etc. this is an unclaimed plat edition that was lost and hopefully someone here will find it 🙂

>couldn't summon any minions
I played it again recently and at least you can summon stuff now but holy shit, what were they thinking.
the summons in GW2 are underwhelming but necros could summon since release, I don't know what you're talking about
I guess I misremembered. Maybe I was just disappointed with how pathetic the summonging was compared to what you could do in GW1.
GW 2 was pathetic
if you claim this, document the thread/images in case issues arise. Anet used to be pretty cool but I haven't dealt with their support in years. anyways lads, time for some coffee, I hope someone that never played might get the chance.
-Anon 2024
Thank you anonymous you're cool and I like you

I was also mad at Blizzard for dumping Warcraft in favour of WoW and would never, and have never, set foot in that game.
alright lads, with free trial code(s) as well.
good luck. first come, first serve. I do not think this can be claimed on steam.
bro wtf
i have around 5 more somewhere. when GW2 was announced they were $10 on newegg. i might have given them away though.
>be me

yeah it happens
Based anon
For anons trying to redeem this, you most likely need to download the Guild Wars 1 client and activate it there. The website wont let you redeem a key like this afaik
I remember they had the old site that you could claim but yeah I think the gw1 client accepts keys. ty for that. I do remember them redirecting everything to the GW2 site but that was around gw2 launch. again, thanks for letting people know.
>bonus image
>Tabula Rasa
you now remember Lord British and his rat-tails
Thank you anon. I used it on my old account, where I only had Nightfall, which I completed about 70% of as a kid. I guess it's time to play the rest.
Nice glad you got it.
if any issues arise post in that /vm/ thread
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/942728-guild-wars-platinum-edition/data
Dylan why are you posting this?
not sure whomst that is, but it isn't me.
I guess I'll just buy Factions in the future.
I do not think I have any faction keys left, last one I gave away was a collectors edition..I still have cleaning to do though lmao.
how is gw2 so fricking bad and ugly in comparison, I swear to god gw2 is the ugliest game in the world
They hired people who never had played GW2.

Based, that's the same armor I use on my main.
Uhhh sorry necrochud, megane monks are peak GW character design
Imagine the smell. HOWEVER, mesmers have the fattest asses.
This is the best necro armor. Peak edginess. For non gw players: its made from flesh and bones.
GW1 Necromancer is still the best necromancer in all gaming
ahhhh the picture.
I was a monk for majority of my gw experience.
I preferred elite cultist, then elite lux when factions came out
Gotta have my sexy edge
Good taste
>Mesmers can finally use swords by design in GW2
>they killed Mesmer completely in GW2
it hurts...
They did kill every class in GW2.
Reminder that >>>/vm/ has a regular and active Guild Wars thread AND guild. Right now, some guys are running through the Prophecies campaign again (the guild has played through all three campaigns before + gets together to run dungeons sometimes.)
If you're an old player or want to be a new player, come to the thread and post your IGN for a guild invite. Lots of people to do stuff with.
The desert felt so cool and large to adventure through in GW1. And then in GW2 that entire area was jammed into one map or something.
Prophecies is pure SOUL
Factions was great also dem Rits and AB
Nightfall campaing was so shit and hate kormir and the running back and forth
but at least it gave us some nice choco girls
GW2 troony devs hate women so much they made the statue into a guy
Factions was the best GW addon
I miss 48 vs 48 alliance battles with heroes ;_;
I dunno why they removed Hero Battles, especially when the game was starting to die out.
i lost my account and support refuses to help 🙁
same...
They refused to give me my old account because I don't know my old email. I found all my old keys and everything too.
if you used the same email for your gw2 account, then get support to reset your password, it'll reset your gw1 account too.
problem is my account has an authenticator i no longer have access to. my brother used it and then lost his phone lol
I don't have a guild wars 2 account because I thought the game sucked after seeing how the pvp looked in beta.
I do remember them being pretty tuff on that shit and after gaile got hacked by that based german kid social engineering them and begging them to get good at their security they probably tripled down on it.
Sounds bizarre. Arenanet has notoriously good customer support and as long as you have your keys or at least even know one of your character names, then you'll be able to get your account back.
they were great at one time but that might have actually been NCsoft support and not whatever it is now.
the GMs(support) were really cool.
We've had all kinds of people retrieve their accounts over the past couple years in the /vm/ thread.
I'm aware of the story. Ah well, there exist outliers in every scenario.
I forgot there was an active /vm/ thread
if anyone claimed that plat edition, document this thread and if issues arise i'll drop an email with all the credentials and send it(the physical copy) if need be.
>Arenanet has notoriously good customer support

there's been abuse a few years ago to the point even fricking gayle gray got her account stolen because support was so lax they give it to some random schmuck pretending to be her
>GW got better with each expansion and patch until the trannies took over with EotN
>GW2 was flawed on release and somehow got worse and worse with every single patch and expansion
The game also still runs like shit.
my first account had the limited edition of EOTN
without that there's no reason to play
I'd argue that an account without EotN is more worthy to be played, I wish I could erase that shit from existence
>Guild Wars 1 was quite unique gameplay wise
>Sacrificed it to make Guild Wars 2, a game that doesn't feel like a Guild Wars game at all
>Devs go out on their way to shit on the legacy of almost every single Guild Wars 1 characters
How much of GW1 can be played solo?
all of it thanks to nightfall, not in hardmode though. unless theyve removed the 4 hero limit, then maybe hard mode too
you take a full party of heroes now and there are team comps specifically for soloing hard mode
You get henchmen NPCs to fill your party, so pretty much all of it
Unless you mean solo as in your character is actually alone
If you actually want to play without any npc party members then I dont imagine its possible
Some missions are definitely solo-able, since I remember doing Underworld runs on my solo monk, but it requires very specific build
Any tips for getting there?
dis homie really be playing solo, might be a better question for
soloing prophecies is possible? didnt even know that
Many of the desert missions seem like they would either be improbable or impossible on solo necro without exploiting the AI or something.
You can solo whole game, but some missions are easier/harder depending on your class and eq.
henchmen still had shit abilities when gw2 came out, when was that changed
Did something happen?
Literally nothing but it was a fun thread so who cares if OP was baiting
I did a full Fissure of Woe clear with other anons in these kind of threads, some years ago haha
There was a moment in time when Guild Wars was the top e-sport in the planet.
Let that sink in.
GW was trying to popularize e-sports before it became a thing.
>in-game streams of big tournaments back in 2006
wild
Being able to observe PvP battles in-game was kind of a fricking wild feature. Whenever I was bored, I'd just randomly watch some GvG or HA.
Unironically the best PvP I ever played
>Make Guild Wars 2
>Doesn't have guild vs guild
>Anet had a shit fit when guilds actually organized Guild vs Guilds in WvW maps
>WvW maps
man what a shitty fricking mode. outside of not even working for most of the game's lifespan because the engine couldn't properly load that many models at once, it always ended up being a zerg rush despite how many revisions they tried to pull. the pvp in GW2 never took off.
The Factions Championship had a 100.000 dollar prize pool and the finals were played during a games convention in Germany.
Shit felt pretty big for the time. Goddamn Koreans dabbing on everyone.
complete collection going for $10 on main GW site at moment
each game is $5 seperate
>GW thread so decide to login

Forgot about the birthday gifts. Which ones should I pick?
Last ones or second to last. Don't remember which gave transmorfs and which "almost all" minis.
They changed it few times. Last one I do remember was around big birthday celebration - 15 years prob. They've added new skills to get.
7th for the chance at weird exclusive minis
6th because I want more Kuunavang tonics
This game was so much fricking better than WoW, holy shit.
Different games really, not very comparable
decided to reinstall to check and jesus those download speeds, I feel like I'm back in 2006
Kino expansion but to this day I am filtered by paragons.
Paragon was really good for the first year then they nerfed all of their chants and now it's trash tier fodder
This game showed the world that you can make a successful multiplayer rpg (NOT MMORPG). Why are there not more games like it?
I kinda wanna play it again
As a dervish/ranger or dervish/necro
I will be the frontline inshallah
I like ritualist girls.
When I did my first GWAMM I considered master of the north so annoying that I just got Lucky instead for my 30
After unlucky what's the smoothest account-bound title to farm? Is it Luxon because of the speedclear?
does gw1 still receive game updates? events sure but what about balance fixes
Last one was few years ago and they've added some new skills and stuff. They went full automatic mode few years ago.
I'm still mad that we could never get Eve's armor ingame.
I wish girls like that were real
Girls who will drain you of your life force until you're a withered corpse and then resurrect you as a zombie servant to do their bidding?
Me too anon, me too...
>tfw fantasies of getting dominated and milked by Eve were some of my earliest femdom fantasies
frick off homosexual
no one wants to join you ironman guild
Step aside b***hes, real sexy coming through.
Verification not required.
MY EYES!!! THEY ARE BLEEDING!
Must be the Power Block that just locked down your skillbar lmao.
Bitches seethe.
Would be a shame if your entire party got %$%@$!'d over and over and over.
seggz
I love ancients unironically almost universally
Ancient Dervish would be a lot better if it just didn't have the stupid little eyeholes
god this game is so fricking ugly. aged like milk
?
Tattoo armor is for bawds
And that's a good thing!
Post favorite skins before the thread dies
Guild politicking at the high water point of Factions was wild. Alliances poaching guilds to oust the HZH/Cavalon owners, corrupt officers charging big bucks for Urgoz/Deep taxis, clever entrepreneurs reselling the VIP lounge's lockpicks to actually good players for 100k profit a trade. Factions taught me capitalism.
First time I ever ERP'd with a girl was us hiding in one of the VIP lounges. God bless GW1 man..
>ERP'd with a girl
>g.i.r.l.
guy in real life
just as likely as
girl in real life
:^)
When will we get a true GW sequel?
all the magic and wizards of crafting something like GW1 are long gone.
>RA with everyone erping and calling each other homosexual Black person, trying to sync etc...
>que up on RA as shock axe
>fly through the 50 matches in RA, get send to TA
>still get a dozen wins somehow
no modern game gives that amount of satisfaction
Honestly, I only ever reached TA once, we won the first then got fricked, but it was so fricking fun.
Wonder why no one picked up that PVP system.
kino character design
Brooding edgelord in the trailer, something of a running joke in-game.
His boss fight could dab pretty hard on first timers, though.
ranger male
My first guild enemy as a kid was a smug ranger male homosexual that kept belittling me because I was like 14 and he was 16 with a car
I have since hated every single ranger male in the entire game and actively kicked them when I was doing pug groups
What was this skill called again...?
i always thought the icon was a crow or something
Evil Eidolon
Pissed Phantom.
Grumpy Ghost
SS 🙂
petty poltergeist
If I pick up this game on the steam sale and add the access key to my old account, do I get anything new? Like maybe more character slots?
$7.50 is tempting just to have it on steam.
Me too anon, I was just thinking about buying it to avoid installing it with Wine
post your favorite skill icon

I remember
touch rangers were epic
>when your entire team is dead
much salt, many tears
I know what I know
>tfw experiencing peak HA
>tfw when playing SB monk and saving spiked teammates
i remember dominating chuds with a beast master ranger towards the end of the games life when gw2 was about to come out. that shit was insanely overpowered
Anyone remember old EoE?
yes but i can't remember if I used it for trapper UW farming or pvp lel
I liked heroes.
They were your personal pokeyman army to try out various combinations on.
Great to quickly get some healers for missions with other players if there are no monks around as well.
There has been no good PvP game sicne GW1
My name is Rurik and I'm from Ascalon and I say kill all charr.
>Fight, ---- it!
Rurik takes fat thick charr knot
Except Rurik died running from the Ch*rr.

I want to go back
>Anon's team has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes
The greatest feeling

I still remember the first time Starcraft used the r15 emote.
I was so close to r15 ;_;
>I Swear She Was Eighteen [Gwen] has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes
>Kakakazi Tactics [GANK] has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes
I wanted nothing more than to be a part of that guild
Is GW2 at least a play through once so I can make a fem Norn?
no
yes, don't listen to the seething here
GW2 is a fun game with a terrible story, so exactly like GW1 in that respect
but also like GW1 you can ignore the story if you want
WvW is fun and the only other game that provides an experience like it is ESO which has the worst combat system ever implemented in a video game
WvW looks like a clusterfrick and a less fun version of AB
>killing dudes and getting seething mail is a clusterfrick
skill issue
>Vent PTT sounds
>Spike this target in 3...2...1
It was SLIVER Armor, not SILVER Armor...
>eotn
it was aids
Sliver was from Factions, noob lamer
Its a faction skill sperg.
>tfw going to whatever ice shithole was in EotN to earn legendary survivor (1m xp without dying), restarting multiple times after dying in that brawl minigame or whatever it was
In hindsight that may have been autistic, not even a great title
Survivor was actually a pretty easy combo with Skill Hunter
Kurzick or Luxon?
kurzick
luxon sounds lame and is too close to nexon
Kurzick all the way. Suxon go home and stop breaking my inner gates.
Playing both sides for maximum profit
KurDICKS are lame goth wannabes in a lame stone forest, Luxons have the sovlful Jade Sea and giant turtles
Luxon forever.
>walking salad dudes emokids with funny haircuts
or
>fricking giant artillery turtles mujaheedin
Choose carefully
I'm a kurzik. I'm a kurzik. I got frilly pants on.
are the heroes any good if you give them proper builds? i like playing a healing monk but frick knows if relying on heroes to deal all the damage is a bad idea
Yes, you can even force them to target priority targets so each fight isn't a slog with them ignoring the monks in the backline. With a good team comp and builds you can do 90% of pve with heroes without doing anything other than calling targets and making sure they don't group up in AoEs.
Heroes are borderline broken if you give them proper builds, especially mesmers.
Hark, so it was told, and so it is.
I wonder why no one has ever made a spiritual successor to it.
Because everyone tunnel-visioned into making WoW-clones
Its kinda funny how originally anet also wanted to make a WoW-clone before realizing they didn't have the money or resources so they made gw1 instead. Then once they had a genuine success on their hands they decided to make gw2 a WoW-clone instead of building on it.
>reduced dazed duration
why
so your firestorm casting doesn't get interupted after you've crippled the poor fool that tried to defy you
Hamstorm, now that's some oldgay memery right there.
what's the lore on req 8/req 7 items, was it a limited-time only loot pool thing in the early game or a bug?
Pretty sure it's just very rare
I think the only "unique" items are those with more than 2 mods which only dropped in the very dark ages of early guild wars
early rare proph drops
t. power trader from the guru days
there has never been max damage q7 weapons but im pretty sure the q8 is exclusively from prophecies. could be wrong tho
q8s are still obtainable from drops, but q7 was removed from drop tables after the early days of Factions
>he doesn't have dyed bags
NGMI
>tfw wasted the only black dye I ever dropped in pre-searing by using it on a bag by mistake
I remember so many people getting scammed out of black dyes right from pre. makes me smile a bit.
the beta simp would be a paragon
Male paragons are too FABULOUS to be simps.
female ranger /dance or ele?
ele > ritualist > ranger > everything else
>implying dancing assassin girls aren't the cutest
Ritualists are hot and have big booba but their dance is shit, and it shows the uncanny, endless untextured void under their robes too
>dancing assassin girls

guild wars for me was FA and AB and RA and fricking around in random towns with random parties going out to do random missions. i don't care at all about heroes or soloing. it died a long time ago.
could run it the other way too. it died on launch of factions. nika was so fricking hot and then it turns out no ritualists get the boobs and meat, assassins only get skin and bones, RUINED
She made my pp into a big pp as a teen.
You can try emailing the support, I just did that but the difference is I have no access to the account whatsoever
I'm unironically afraid they'd think I'm a hacker or something because it does sound fricking dumb
God forbid you ever bought gw2 like I did, if you have the cd key around including that surely will get it removed if it doesn't I'm fricked
I bought the trilogy, don't know when I'll ever play it, though. When you buy it on Steam you can add the game key it to your old account. I never had the expansions and it let me add them to my very old account.
I got them to change my account email through support. I provided an image of my GW2 key that was attached to my account, though.
if you contact them, and can provide information they -should- work with you. tell them exactly what is happening. the only thing is, they might reset the account and you lose everything..
I cannot provide the informations, it's too old, for some reason I can connect in-game just fine through my mobile's internet, but I can't connect to the account page on Anet's website so I can't check the account details
you can take videos and screencap, know characters names, log in etc etc. just explain to them what is happening.
i'm a new GW2 player that never played 1. i think GW2 is a pretty good game and maybe GW1 vets are blinded by preconceptions of what it should be. like if it didn't have guild wars in the name i bet more people would enjoy it.
the open world is done especially well compared to pretty much every other MMO i've ever played. mounts are really cool too.
storywise i only got to the end of the personal story and i enjoyed about half of it. once the pact got started with trahearne it was way too fast paced so everything started to fall flat - kind of like GoT season 8. hopefully it picks up again in the living world seasons.
the dungeons are great. fun to explore. the overarching side story about destiny's edge got me interested in tyria in general so I'm thinking about getting into GW1 because I'm told GW2 shits on its lore somehow.
>blinded by preconceptions
its a completely, and i do mean completely (gw1 is not even an mmo really) different game. its no wonder fans of the first game dont care for it
You know nothing of why GW players hate GW2 yet you yap your mouth.
i mean every complaint i've seen is basically
>combat isn't like gw1
>lore isn't like gw1
but not having played gw1 i don't think the way gw2 did things so far is that bad
that seems to be a running theme with most MMOs i get into lately
>but not having played gw1 i don't think the way gw2 did things so far is that bad
having only eaten shit all my life, I don't think shit tastes that bad
GW2 is way slower... 2 zones, 2 raid bosses every year on the anniversary, and then 1/3 a zone every 3 months between. 3 zones and 2 bosses a year.
GW2 is great, but the content updates are just way too slow. If you get into now you have thousands of hours of great content. Once you catch up on content it kinda sucks, but at least it's fun until you get to that point.
Image to illustrate some of the failings of GW2
honestly a bunch of this stuff seems very nit picky
>caring about loading bars in 2024
i would like a fully customizable UI though
it's not like i've never played an MMO or other video games before? do you think guild wars 1 is the only good game in existence?
anon, a lot of the people playing GW1 today have not played another game since it came out
they've gotten a little weird
>honestly a bunch of this stuff seems very nit picky
really the main points are A) gw2 lacks skills and build customisation which bleeds into B) it only has generic debuffs and enhancements. you wouldnt get it if you never played gw1. really boring stuff, its like a hundred steps back in terms of game design
Its like going from playing mtg with multiple playstyles, different color combinations, hard counters, and combos that can break the game in specific circumstances to early yugioh were all you see is efficient normal monsters like summon skull trying to burst things down. Its such a downgrade at every level of play that it is almost staggering.
not him but i liked being able to completely customize the UI. we lost that.
GW1 is one of the few MMOs that deviates from the norm, it stood out because of that, to this day there's no MMO like it
>GW1 vets are blinded by preconceptions
I remember the gw1 manifesto
gw2**
The reason people who played it love GW1 so much is because of nostalgia no doubt, on top of GW1 being a good game
However people don't need to be nostalgiagays to hate what GW2 is
>the overarching side story about destiny's edge got me interested in tyria in general
All of it is shit compared to original GW1.
>hurr durr hero dwarf is suddenly gay
>hurr durr we need this trans npc because reasons
>hurr durr we need more homosexual pairing
>hurr durr Scarlet is great because she is a WOMAN!
>>hurr durr Scarlet is great because she is a WOMAN!
don't they constantly shit on Scarlet and call her a monster
they do, anon is moronic
No
They call her a monster, yet at the same time you're constantly reminded how much of a prodigy she is through the entirety of the quest, how fast she mastered the crafts other asurans take decades to perfect, how incredible it is that she managed to unite all those belligerent factions together, etc...
It's just so transparent
Yeah, and at the same time they are throwing at you all these "prodigy" stuff about her. How powerful, how amazing she is, etc.
How about replacing the original team with Diversity's edge?
>a new GW2 player
gw2 probably is a fantastic game in 2024.
this is a statement about 2024 and not gw2.
I like how GW2 is supposedly le hecking wholesome gayme with a friendly community, yet its raiding scene was by FAR the most toxic I have ever seen, and I have played a shit ton of popular MMOs (WoW, Aion, TERA, FFXIV, BnS...)
Literally the only community that's worse on this regard was (is?) Lost Ark's
it was all failed WoW raiders
GW2 is also fashion and build based, whether you liked it or not doesn't make that not true
gw2 is build-based in comparison to gw1 in the same way that deus ex is an fps in comparison to doom. one clearly focuses on the aspect in question more than the other
>it's not build based because it's just not
it's literally a core focus of how the game plays
>censored
there are waaaaaay more coomer skins in GW2 than GW1 ever had, GW2 also has a lot of bad skins, it just has a LOT of skins
>there are waaaaaay more coomer skins in GW2 than GW1 ever had, GW2 also has a lot of bad skins, it just has a LOT of skins
That's just not true, you can only make that argument for light armor, there's like 1 for heavy and 1 for medium
you've clearly not played in a long time
I'm not the same person, I played a lot of GW1, but GW2 is entirely build focused, it's a CORE ASPECT of the game
>it's a CORE ASPECT of the game
gw1 is offers much more viable customisation and again youre just being disingenuous on purpose if you deny that
I don't even like customization, I don't see why muh customization automatically makes it better. Customization in an MMO just makes shit unbalanced.
peak npc
cheers for the gw1 chads in this thread, see you in the next life
GW1 offers more customization, but is it viable? not really, no, that's why PvXwiki exists because there's a very clear, defined meta of what works and what doesn't
Do different builds actually matter in gw2 now, or is still just different flavors of straight dps and condition spam based dps?
>>it's not build based because it's just not
that's not what i said. are you being disingenuous on purpose? the point was, as i already said, that one game focuses on the aspect way more than the other. you already admitted to never playing gw1, why are you even arguing about this? i do have hundreds of hours in gw2, my dislike for it doesnt came form the ether

Make sure your firewall has an exclusion allowed for it, in and out bound.
Does the trilogy edition come with "eyes of the north" and the "bonus mission pack"?
Are they even necessary?
