The GUN stands for Gunnhildr, who is the queen in both name and title of Bozja multiple times over in history, and the name Gunblade is a reference to Gunnhildr's Blades. The actual cartridges don't shoot bullets, but rather quickcast a spell that is charged by cartridges that need to be filled with aether. Thancred and the other Gunbreakers can only do this by reloading a massive magazine they have, but the WoL can charge their cartridges with their ridiculous pool of ambient aether, and only rapid-reload when using Bloodfest by stealing aether from a target.
Gunblade stands for Gunnhildr, but Gunbreaker does actually stand for guns, since they were named after how they would charge into battle and break the long range artillery by themselves. Thus Gunbreaker.
As to why Square decided they needed two different sources to justify the use of "Gun" in the name, who fricking knows.
real-world supposition is that "gun" is short for "gunilda" which was a nickname given to a specific ballista at windsor castle in the 14th century and gunilda as a name is derivative of scandinavian "gunnhildr"

Bozjan gunblades can't shoot projectiles. The cartridges are actually full of aether that gets released when the trigger is pressed. This generates the large explosions you see when you use Burst Strike, the Gnashing Fang combo, Fated Circle and Double Down.

This used to be my opinion until 5.3, all the soul has been extracted from ARR. Still better than people give it credit for, but not as good as it once was.

a small number of questlines were removed (ie y'shtola dressing up as a miner to go undercover) and some dungeons were modernized
The border walls were destroyed and wowfugees were allowed en masse. Coin Counter aoes, flying in ARR, CT mandatory, old dungeons nerfed or reworked. Plus to make it all worse, constant potency powercreep killing all fun of old instances with bosses dying faster and faster so mechs are skipped, though this was already happening before 5.3.

I like the class aesthetics and wanted to main it for hard content.
Love it but people will scream at you to just use Summoner as it's easier and more consistent at damage dealing than RDM. It's a lot harder to be more consistent than RDM if you are an average player.
Any raider that seriously overtly cares about your job choice outside of hyper-niche circumstances like Ultimates is too autistic for my blood
Red Mage is a safety net job used for when your party is awful in prog and you need to see upcoming mechanics to figure out what the hell is going on, Summoner is what you pick when you want significantly higher damage but you also want a Swiftcast + Raise for *occasional* mistakes

They’re fine, good ones can be extremely useful in EX. They do less dmg than BLM but maximizing group dmg isn’t actually the goal among turbo sweatlords.
Most people aren't going to care. But for the sake of your own experience and improvement you should try to be a "magical ranged main that mostly plays redmage" and at least have enough rudimentary knowledge at playing summoner and/or blm to be able to pull your own weight in ex/savage if you absolutely had to.
Most of the time no one is going to ask you to swap, but showing people you are able to speaks a lot of you as a player

Corsair should be sword+gun. Like a physical version of red mage in reverse where you build up in melee and go ranged for burst.
As for normal gun job, make it a Rifleman with a cartridge system where you have charged ocds to load different type of bullets in the order you want to shoot them. Give it a sort of "take aim" ability kinda like leyline that that immobilises you in a crouched position for faster cds or more dmg or higher sps. I just want proper pistols and proper two handed rifles. The one handed carbine thing with mch just does not do it for me.

I get DPS anxiety in pvp because nothing ever fricking dies. At least if I'm playing a tank class I can blame it on the role/potencies.
Play BRD, you're contributing just by having your buffs up and your target is always the lowest hp enemy that someone else is attacking. They are pretty fragile and tend to get focused if your team doesn't protect you though. They also somehow get nerfed every fricking patch.
The point is staying alive and steal kills.
People start dying when you reach BH3-5, below that is just hoping the enemy overextends and people focusing low HP targets.
gunbreaker is a good harrier class but not a great front linesman (not the worst by a long shot)

Most double stacks after level 80 will give you some kind of x element/defense down so it would have killed everyone no matter your role or left a tank with like 1 auto a at from death . I’m 99%sure SoS gives you a defense down that lasts 2/3 seconds so it would have killed you
They already stated they are looking for ways to improve the 2.0-6.1 experience for new players.
Don't think they'll just skip it but its obvious they are looking to shorten the time new players spend on the first arc of the game, specially to future proof the game.
Benchmark datamining says they're gonna be giving classes and low level jobs way more to do so it might be more direct in how they make the early experience better

There are dps jobs that don't get aoe moves until lvl 30-40 so it's much needed.

I don't believe this was ever intended and them pitching the idea of a new starting point coinciding with 6.1's release date made people think that was the plan. Like it would make the story skips absolutely pointless, no way SE would ok it.
The way they rushed through the twelves, among other things, suggests they want to close a lot of things before moving on.
My bet is that they had the idea on the table and they went ahead and asked the dev team to put the systems in place in case the 6.1 free skip is green lighted.
In the end they either summarize the MSQ or new players will have to do 1000 hours of content to reach endgame down the line.

WoW made that same mistake 6 years ago by forcing new players to start with BFA, the result is that you'd throw players into a world they have no reason to care about, with characters that treat the WoL like they've been friends forever when the players actually just saw them for the first time. Forcing players to go through the whole ARR to EW story is the strength of the game's story, don't take any shortcuts, it's better to have the whole context of the story

GNB in particular got a fricking manatrigger of the forgiven recolor and DNC got a fricking shire glaives recolor

We saw a Dreadwyrm Viper weapon in the benchmark so I expect at least back compatibility for ultimate weapons, potentially also for some past tome/relic weapons.
The aesthetics don't seem to *quite* match up to Dreadwyrm for me, but I'm very hopeful those are Dreadwyrm weapons. I saw swords that looked like first-tier Eden weapons as well.
Also bears mentioning there is an Omega weapon. I imagine they're prioritizing compatibility with weapons for ultimates.

Stormblood made me take my first break, but it gets better. Shadowbringers was fantastic all the way through and Endwalker looks to be enjoyable from the post-ShB stuff.

I’ve been in the same small FC of ~16 members for 7 years now. I’ve never encountered drama before. When the old fc leader couldn’t play as much he just gave master to anyone that wanted it, and it’s been the same since.
I've only joined FCs because I was invited randomly but those FCs are mostly a ghost town and nobody talks, and most of the people are just there for the cool buffs and then just leave.
When I finish my leveling I think I'll just transfer to Aether, make an FC and just keep it for a casual static.
My FC started off randomly on a whim because all of us were already playing together in one way or another and it made sense to just create an FC seeing as how everyone was in the type of FC you described. You’re going about it correctly.
