lmao, you should be happy about how Cantha turned out. It basically shows that the Ministry of Purity was successful beyond the wildest dreams. Purist destroyed the Kurzicks, humbling the Luxons, ensuring human supremacy, breaking the back of the Naga, ensuring exterminating the Dredge in Cantha, taming the Tengu, and uniting Cantha under one flag of the mighty Canthan Empire.
Everything the Purists did was beneficial to Cantha and the the following Canthan dynasy and nobody baits an eye at it. There's only a sense of scars left, but nobody is actively opposing the empire. Even when Purity felt from power (off-camera), they keep the whole "no-outsiders" foreign policy while enjoying the fruits of a technological revolution that basically turned them into Korean Wakanda.
The fact that they made it into Korean Wakanda is already enough reason for me to not be happy how Cantha turned out. What a lovely way to shit on the only redeeming quality of the entire asuran species.

Pretty much everything, back in 2013 you'd have new content releases every other week and sometimes they'd be complete nothingburgers like "press F to fix road sign", sometimes they'd be a whole dungeon. Most of them were bugged af due to crazy development time and once something was gone you'd missed out on all rewards.
While this was going on, no effort was made to improve PvP (which at the time was being pushed as esports) or WvW so 100% of the updates were on open world garbage, with a story even worse than the core game's, culminating in developers quitting due to stress and players leaving due to frustration.
One year later the studio announced that it wouldn't make any more temporary content and announced the first expansion.
Yeah, I gave up on GW2 because every content release that first year was "make the game a full time job running boring events to earn an ugly backpack skin.", meanwhile 50 new weapon skins added to lootbox.
What is even the selling point of this shit? Previously it was elite specs, for me at least. Story is please let me skip tier, mounts was a mistake and there are no new ones except for poverty version of skyscale it seems, new weapon choices down the line seems to be accessible even without the expansion too.
I think that the espec weapons require the new mastery to be usable outside of their espec (but why would you use sword off-hand on fb or rifle on daredevil in the first place?) while the other batch of weapons should be open to everyone.

They call it a single-player MMO. Most of the content in there can be duo-d, main story and open world for sure. Dungeons and Raids aren't. Be advised, however that the story and open world are trash content and you're probably better off spending those 50 bucks + whatever for expansions on some comfy coop games. It's not just the troony shit everyone in this thread is talking about, the main story gets genuinely horrendous like 50-60 levels in, and you level up exceptionally fast in this game.
There was never a point in which the GW2 story was ever good. The "best" parts are painfully mediocre.
I liked the race specific story quests at the very beginning. Once you get past those it goes to shit. Shame, because the game itself can be fun.

After the story of EoD is done, there's this additional episode where you're called to investigate some incidents in a jade mine. You get there and an evil demon is altering everyone's emotions to feed on their feelings or something, so you withdraw and meander the world map talking to NPCs about your trauma.
You go back and beat the demon with the power of friendship and by thinking of positive things and happy memories, then go on a group date to help your Korean friend score with his childhood crush.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to buy that shit. My main character is still in Arborstone in the main storyline because that's when it hit me that it was shit. I was full of copium before that point and I can't even will myself to play anymore.
I could tell you that it gets better but I'd be lying. Only reason to complete the story is to unlock all strike missions and half of them aren't even anything special…
I recommend that you get to level 80 asap and then start expansion 3 so you have access to two mounts and gliding right away. Then unlock the elite specs for your class* and start buildcrafting, you can run fractals and strikes right away and can move to raids once you're more experienced.
*you can access the PvP lobby to try all your elite specs and see which one(s) click with you. Then you either unlock hero challenges in any expansion maps or farm Proofs of Heroics by playing WvW to get enough hero points to unlock the elite specs for PvE/WvW.

I've tried several times, but not once has a GW1 Ascalongay managed to properly tell me why charr were in the wrong for bombing Ascalon, no matter how many times I ask in genuine good faith. To my knowledge charr and human were at war because humans were Black person migrants who came to Tyria from some other planet and used their gods and their gifts to drive the charr out of their land, and the charr just retaliated against them. Every single time I point it out I am not told that I my information is wrong or that I misinterpreted something, but the ascalongay instead resorts to screaming something about furgays and 'death to everyone but us'. This happens consistently. Can you perhaps break the pattern and give me a decent answer?
The Charr were a force of nature conquering and taking over everything. They were a savage beast race that only thought of conquest.

The lore of humans being alien invaders is as old as Guild Wars 1. It is clearly said that humans wrecked the balance so carefully built by the Forgotten. The Charr lore was expanded during Eye of the North and made them the rightful owners of Ascalon before humans came by right of conquest.

Basically, there are these three factions you can choose between during character creation, right? They are the Templar, the Illuminati, and the Dragon. All have their own way of recruiting you. The Templars just send someone to invite you so you go to their HQ and start working with them. The Illuminati send someone to invite you, but you need to find them yourself, and when you do - they knock you out, put a tracking chip into you and declare you their property forever or else. Then there is the Dragon. The Dragon kidnaps you, transports you to Shanghai (or Sheol or some other bugman city, I forgot), and then they put you in a room where an asian woman gives you a magical sloppy toppy that transports you into the memories of another person. That's how you get recruited. The same thing happens to female characters, so essentially every female Dragon operative is either a dyke or coping with being molested. The Secret World is a game that really goes places at times.

They actually added legendary armor to wvw and pvp but they were basically just for the legendary stat swap and didn't have unique visuals, which ended up being fine since the raid legendary armor was really ugly.

I managed to set up a steam config that works pretty well using L2/R2 as modifier keys to access all abilities on ABXY similar to how FFXIV works. I've been using it in WvW but I play a pretty braindead zerg class (power vindicator).
