one of my favorite books. I try to read a lot of Orwell's autobiographical stuff and I love seeing different inspirations for 1984 pop up in his other works. for example, when he rents his apartment in Down and Out in Paris and London, it's infested with bugs and he has to put a ring of salt (or maybe it was pepper?) around his bed, which for some reason repels the bugs. Winston has the same bug issue and does the same salt thing in 1984 when he rents the upstairs attic room hideaway.
