I don't know about CS but Sky isn't on switch and CLE and NISA ported Zero/Ao and the newer games to PC and Switch rather than Falcom doing it themselves. Now that NISA has exclusive rights for porting the japanese script any switch or pc versions of their games will be delayed by 1.5/2 years in japan.

There's a clear split between the three (currently translated) series.
Sky is set in a kind of industrial boom-era and is more like a traditional shonen plot with some shoujo stuff thrown in.
Crossbell is post industrial with cars and skyscrapers and shit.
Cold Steel is basically modern day with cellphones and rampant personal computers and such.
All of this is over the span of like ~5 years.
Soul is lost with each new series, sadly. It was clear with Sky they had a vision but with Cold Steel they just wanted younger players to not feel isolated without their heckin' cellphones.

That's like forcing people to play BG1/2. Before playing BG3, I myself could play BG 1/2 even today and have a fantastic time, but I did play these games when I was younger, and nostalgia play a big role. If I had never played these games before, my opinion about them would likely not be as positive. Sky games did not age that well, and while I did have fun playing them at the end, I was hesitating to start the third game. Being elitists and trying to say that it is neccesary to play these old games to enjoy the series will put a lot of people away from it.

I know nothing of bg 3 but if is standalone, sure, i can't see it following the story of charname and sarevok. Many games put a number after the title and they have nothing to do with the one before.

I don't know about CS but Sky isn't on switch and CLE and NISA ported Zero/Ao and the newer games to PC and Switch rather than Falcom doing it themselves. Now that NISA has exclusive rights for porting the japanese script any switch or pc versions of their games will be delayed by 1.5/2 years in japan.

You'd probably be fine if you just play through normally, but if you're playing with the Japanese voice pack for the first 3 games, you really start to notice a lot of lines that just make shit up out of nowhere and don't translate what's being said and it's really quite annoying. Though that's the same for a lot of games. Tales and Final Fantasy are also really bad at this.
Yeah the translation is still that bad in the Crossbell games as well, the official release 'trimmed' some of these meme lines but it's still super inconsistent and flavoured for no reason.

In Sky trilogy at the very least mostly all of the plot critical narrative is voiced. From there it starts to get a little vague, and of course incidental NPCs aren't voiced.

It's been pretty acceptable in all my tests and can even explain the context if you press it. It's not flawless, but neither are most human translators.
It improved by a lot but it is still completely reliable. year or two and we will be there seeing the progress in the text generation is insane there almost every week some big progress. Recently we did go from the context limit of 2024 tokens to 16k on models that you can run locally

There's a clear split between the three (currently translated) series.
Sky is set in a kind of industrial boom-era and is more like a traditional shonen plot with some shoujo stuff thrown in.
Crossbell is post industrial with cars and skyscrapers and shit.
Cold Steel is basically modern day with cellphones and rampant personal computers and such.
All of this is over the span of like ~5 years.
Soul is lost with each new series, sadly. It was clear with Sky they had a vision but with Cold Steel they just wanted younger players to not feel isolated without their heckin' cellphones.
At least the technological advancements were in-universe and explained due to how rapidly technology can evolve when you have effectively infinite and unexhaustible energy sources.
The real death of the soul was when they tried to be Persona and pulled the 'magical combat school' anime trope in Cold Steel.
And it was dumb as shit. You do more school stuff in the small segments of sky than in the entirety of cs1 and 2. You just go around traveling and beating shit, you are basically just doing bracer work .
The series's setting morphed into a scifi setting with a fantasy backdrop after a while. Trails isn't very good at explaining some of the massive leaps in tech that happen between arcs.

Before playing BG3, I myself could play BG 1/2 even today and have a fantastic time, but I did play these games when I was younger, and nostalgia play a big role. If I had never played these games before, my opinion about them would likely not be as positive. Sky games did not age that well, and while I did have fun playing them at the end, I was hesitating to start the third game. Being elitists and trying to say that it is neccesary to play these old games to enjoy the series will put a lot of people away from it.
I know nothing of bg 3 but if is standalone, sure, i can't see it following the story of charname and sarevok. Many games put a number after the title and they have nothing to do with the one before.

I think Kondo stepping away from being the series' director was what caused its decline. The last game he directed was Ao, which is one of the better games in the series. Takeiri has been way less competent at managing the series' overarching plot and creative direction.
