god I fricking hate fromslopware zoomers
DLC saved it
Lost Izalith is the only bad second half area. The rest is decent.
I would add Gwyn as well but him being a letdown was intentional, so yes the only really bad part is Izalith last stretch.
Gwyn and the Kiln of the Fist Flame were kino and I'm tired of pretending they're not.
Demon Ruins also sucks, even if it's not as terrible as Lost Izalith. New Londo is alright for the novelty factor, but ghosts clipping through walls get old fast.
I agree that Duke's Archives, Catacombs and TotG are decent.
Demon ruins and izaleth simply aren't long enough to be that bad.
It’s not one of the best games of all time though. The beginning to descent to blight town is perfect. Send fortress is good or just ok. Anor Lando is good. But after that it is a terrible game.
>after that it is a terrible game
Until you get to the DLC and then it's kino again
I thought the dlc was not that great.
The DLC is mediocre, none of the areas are as good as any of the first half locations, only highlights are Artorias and the giant archer bro.
DLC has excellent bosses, but the areas around them are short, boring, and overloaded with enemies.
Izalith is so bad even its length doesn't save it.
>Eye-straining lava
>20 dragon asses standing around in it as if the designer used a brush tool by accident
>Bed of fricking Chaos
It's nearing your average Unity asset flip in quality.
Demon Ruins is better, but come on now. It also has really strange enemy placement and Firesage is a reskin of a reskin. At least it's not as offensive as Izalith.
Manus is the one dark souls boss that I genuinely hate. The only boss where I wouldn't care if he was completely removed from the game. Artorias was kino though
What do you hate about him? He's hard, sure, but all his attacks are avoidable and he doesn't have bullshit hitboxes. Hell, you don't even have to use the pendant if you don't like that gimmick.
First time I played the DLC I was on ng+ so my experience was probably more difficult than most. He had that one move with a gigantic range and when caught it in he does some fricking street fighter combo that takes all your health. All his moves felt significantly faster than any other boss. Only way I beat him was by baiting him into doing the paw slam and hitting his hand until he died
Yeah, wombo combo is brutal. That said, I think you can avoid it by dodging to the side.
>hating best boss and only one in the game with mechanical complexity similar to ER/DS3 bosses
He's good but
>Can't be parried
>AOE attack that can only be defended by an item hidden in the dungeon
>Can't be riposted
I don't know man
>Can't be parried
>Can't be riposted
Not all bosses need those mechanics.
>AOE attack that can only be defended by an item hidden in the dungeon
The pendant helps a lot but it's not mandatory.
>Shotgun
Dodge to the side.
>Rain
Run around until it ends.
>Circle
Get up close to Manus, it does not reach him all the way.
sen's is one of the best levels in the series
ds1 dlc is much like ds3 dlc, only the bosses are good.
I thought send fortress was uninteresting. It was just ok.
Boss runbacks arent fun
is literally just nostalgia
I played it for the first time less than a year ago and loved it
>the game is shit
ftfy
>easily one of the best games of all time
LMFAO
>how did they do it?
~~*brainwashing*~~ (You)
I quit the game and go back to any other souls game once I reach the catacombs.
The other half is just that good.
Half the game isn’t bad that’s a moronic eceleb opinion that has been blindly parroted by morons. The only bad level is DemonRuins/LostIzalith.
>Most items tied to npc quests
>Cryptic nature of games means you'll lose everything
>Terrible PVP
>Lost Izalith is really bad
It's a great game despite all that but it's the worst soulsborne game Demons Souls is better despite being more linear and more punishing
>Cryptic nature of games means you'll lose everything
What does this even mean
>I want powerful miracles
>You need to kill a random boss, find npcs in an illusory wall and do obtuse actions, Not kill said npc or leave his covenant, go to ng+
That's why Faith is a meme in DS1, not because it's bad (it really is), but because it sucks to find gear.
>half the game is shit
What are you talking about?
>zoomzooms morons hyper connected and watching trillions of eceleb videos will never play dark souls 1 blind like I did
Best gaming experience in my life. Yes I did try to kill the ghosts right off the bat and got my ass handled to me.
Best HUD zone.
Best map.
Best exploration.
Best gameplay.
From will never top it.
Yeah I think people have a hard time admitting that being spoiled with memes, regurgitated talking points about mechanics, expectations of difficulty, common tips, etc. all kinda ruins the magic of this sort of game. And future From games being so incredibly similar doesn't help with that.
By having the most obnoxious fanbase in gaming having to overshill the shit game for them
manus's literal perfect counter is a crossbow
Elden ring is the best from soft game. No matter how much people will say otherwise on here. Yes it was open world bloat with re used assets but it was still a really fun game that didn’t have a sever drop in quality as dark souls did. There was a drop in quality after leyndell but it wasn’t so bad.
really only ds1 and bb have that drop in quality, elden ring is not unique for not having it. in elden ring there's just a huge drop in quality whenever you're not in a legacy dungeon instead.
I thought elden ring actually felt fun and like an adventure. The other games. We’re so linear to me it didn’t really even feel like an rpg
the strongest feeling of adventure in the series is in the first half of ds1 imo, due to the lack of fast travel. there's nothing like getting further and further away from "home", each bonfire you rest at anchoring you to that location, with no way to teleport back to firelink. now THAT'S adventure.
I agree with you. If only the entire game was similar to the first half.
>how did they do it?
gamers have extremely low expectations
>how did they do it?
Phenomenal level/world design
Stellar soundtrack without overusing opera choruses
Decent gameplay
Memorable bosses
Interesting lore and a fairly straightforward story
blind playthrough was the one of the most fun experiences i had
tried replaying it a few times but it fell really flat
if you plan on playing any souls game dont watch videos on it
hop in blind and dont throw your controller/keyboard at the screen
>TFW when first playthrough was 70+ hours long
Don't ask how, i don't know either
Impressive how how after 4 playthroughs it still has an air of mystery and wonder
While DS3 falls flat on that by the 2nd playthrough with the gameplay only picking up on some boses
Mine was around 70 hours as well. It's not too surprising if you frick around with coop, farming and stray off the intended route here and there.

The best areas in the game are the large areas cut into 2-3 separate zones like upper/lower burg and the parish, all of darkroot, catacombs and tomb, depths to blighttown swamp. Painted World, Duke's Archives and Sen's Fortress are the only single zone places to me that really feel fully complete. Anor Londo appeared to be huge but is really small aside from the actual castle which isn't filled with much in itself. The rest is like 2 elevators and some narrow walkways. New Londo also feels like this, just some narrow walkways and a tiny area at the bottom of the water. I would have given up half of the game to expenrience lower anor londo about the size of leyndell royal capital.
Demons Souls level design is unironically better. I think the best dungeons in DS1 are catacombs and sen fortress.
Indeed. I remember thinking DeS looked way better than DS1, so when I finally got around to playing it that only confirmed my speculation. Boletaria felt like an actual castle. I remember it even had spots with a ledge hop animation and I used to wonder why they got rid of that in DS1.
I'm going to sound like a pseud but its because its so raw and transparent in its level design that it is respectable even when its bad. It will do a tomb of the giants or new londo ruins instead of just throwing more or stronger enemies at you like any other game would do. Its willing to try to do something cool and not afraid to fail spectacularly. Its about sincerity and respect for the player.
