yeah chink hardware sucks. too bad nobody else is making these retro handhelds. id pay proper money for a psvita with more capable hardware so i could run zdopm, N64 and dc. say what you will about sony but their portable devices have always been sexy as hell.

If the Analogue Pocket wasn't 250 fricking dollars it'd be pretty cool

maybe if it wasnt in the gameboy form factor and had an ordinary linux capable arm chip instead of that fpga stuff. and even then they're still a tiny conpan to esnure high quality control you really need to be huge as frick, no small startup will make a decice that wilöl actually be reliablle.

Vitas are still in demand for emulating. I was going to get one but I didn't want to spend $200 for something I wasn't sure I'd use. There's nothing better at that size and quality sadly. If sony didn't make it the most utterly cucked electronic device ever created it probably would have taken over the world.

theyre honestly pretty shit for emulation. cant even run gba pokemon romhacks full speed. the PS2 and homebrew ports are where it shines.

I mean, who else can make emulation machines without getting in trouble with Sony or Nintendo?

sony and nintendo themselves, valve if you look at how often deck is advertised as an emulator machine

Shipping shit with emulators is also usually in breach of the license for the emulators, but I don't think anyone has actually done anything about that. Most of these chinkhelds do ship with SD cards full of ROMs, but theoretically they could stop doing that. At the end of the day, these are just computers intended to run Linux and/or Android.

            Anonymous

Depends on what license the emulators use. Some licenses like BSD or MIT definitely permit commercial distribution.

              Anonymous

Looks like a lot of them restrict commercial use: https://docs.libretro.com/development/licenses/

You could just ship with an optimized linux distro like Valve and let people do the rest.
Personally I'd say doing an Android handheld is probably the most accesible method

            Anonymous

            >You could just ship with an optimized linux distro
That's more or less what they do with these chinkhelds, except those which run Android. Typically it's better to ditch their SD card and Linux install though, and use something made by the community (like OnionOS for the Miyoo Mini, ArkOS for many of the Anbernic devices... etc.)

In dual OS devices people always make the mistake of using the Linux side OS but I've found my performance was much better on the Android side and the customization you can do with frontends is way ahead of anything on Linux OSes.

homie, literally everyone said that specific piece of shit falls apart, namely the screen issue.
People only bought it because of that coupon that lets you get it for like $30.

Chinkboys are great, but you have to be more selective over which ones you get and why.
I love my v90 as a damn good 2D emulation device, but I had to do a couple mods and replace that F---- tier memory card.
Just comes with the territory, chinkboys have zero quality control and most aren't designed to last very long because China literally doesn't care about e-waste or about customer feelings/wants/needs.

      >homie, literally everyone said that specific piece of shit falls apart, namely the screen issue.

It's an easy fix for the screen since people can just hotglue it back in, but yes, it's the RG35XX.
No clue about the motherboard thing OP was talking about though.

Just get a tablet or use your phone.

        >Samsung Tab S8
        >SNES, PS1, PS2 emulator installed
        >micro SD card filled with roms and ISOs
        >Xboner S controller
        Yep, it's game time.

        >playing emulated games on a tablet with a dedicated Xbox controller in public
        lol

        Related:
        >eating up the battery life of phones, which already notoriously have shit battery life, and you might not have easy access to charging
        >heating your phone up, potentially shortening its lifespan or its battery's lifespan
        >have to have your brightness all the way up because modern phones don't have reflective backing on the screens
        >if you get a call, there's a not-zero percent chance the game will reset, especially on devices
        >if you play too rough, you run the risk of dropping and damaging your probably-expensive phone
        >setting your phone up on a table for better gaming, or holding your phone out for long periods in public makes it easy to steal, and you can't even call 911 because they've got your phone
        >if your phone is stolen, you also run the risk they get access to your payment info and anything else your apps have access to
        >playing with both a controller and your phone in public means carrying that shit on you, and any decent controller isn't going to fit in your pocket
        >most phone controllers have long latency anyway
        >playing without a controller means shit touchscreen controls

I like the chinkboys because they're easy to tweak, easy to mod, easy to replace the firmware on, contain no important data, have long battery lives, have physical buttons, and are cheap enough that breaking them tends not to be a problem.
