Harsh penalties for dying is a dated and unnecessary mechanic that only wastes time and discourages more reckless playstyles which isn't fun.

Liar
why are wow and poe listed?
in poe, late game deaths can cost you hours of time
in wow, you die and have to run all the way back to where you died. like dark souls but 10 times further.
>in wow, you die and have to run all the way back to where you died
it takes like 50 seconds and you're invincible while doing so
try getting out of the starter zone sometime
yes i leveled 4 characters to 60 just in vanilla classic alone during 2019. corpse runs are a fricking joke and you must be remembering them wrong from your childhood or something
well if you die on the other side of the map from the graveyard then it takes much more than 50 seconds. and it takes way longer if you die in a dungeon.
its still a nothing burger compared to games like everquest and runescape where you spawned halfway across the world with none of your gear
Still very casual when compared to other mmos at the time when WoW released. You don't even lose exp or gear when you die. Also WoW got rid of having to corpse run back to a dungeon around 2010.
in PoE you lose 10% of your XP when you die, that is like 1h of grinding when your high level
git gud gay and dont die
why is dark souls listed
The 30 second run to the bloodstain from the bonfire mindfricks the average adhd zoomner more than that one alien mindfricks takeru in muvluv.
in demons souls and dark souls 2, dying reduces your max hp. in all of them, the big problem is running back to the boss fights. you have to go the way every time, sometimes it's far, and you have to deal with the same enemies every time. they can easily chunk your health, causing you to use an estus and makes the boss fight harder.
>NOOOOOOOOOOO I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BRUTE-FORCE THE GAME WITHOUT ANY SPEEDBUMPBS AT ALLLLLLLLLL!
>NOT MY MAX HPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP NOW I DIE FASTER WHEN I SUCK AT SPEEDRUNNNNNNINGGGGGGGG
meds
yes, there's a reason i included runescape as well
but the point is you included wow which is the exact opposite of a harsh death penalty...
it IS a harsh penalty. it's a waste of time. just cus runescape is worse doesn't mean wow isn't harsh too.
>Harsh penalties for dying is a based and necessary mechanic that teaches the player caution and to prepare for encounters instead of allowing gay meme playstyles.
ftfy
>le fat bald man one-shots your character
nothin personnel kid
Damn. Guess I should acquire more skill.
Dark Souls does not have a hard punishment. It just reveals to you that you need to git gud.
runescape became soulless when they nerfed death and added lame gravestone timers.
people tapping into primal natures and hovering riskers and possible AFKers close to eath, like birds to dying creatures, is a pure and exciting experience
So go and play like 99% of currently made games? Play some AssCreed or any other boring shit AAA game. These are literally made for you.
>NOOO I WANT TO PLAY THE LE HARDCORE GAME
>AND I WANT IT TO BE EASY JUST FOR ME
Leftist loser victim mindset
more games need to implement some kind of mediumcore mode. i want part of the tension of hardcore without losing 20 hours of progress.
No. In fact devs should realize that custom difficulties are bad game design
is this parroting some eceleb opinion that spread recently or something?
>I want the tension of permadeath without permadeath
How then? That's where the tension comes from, the permadeath
Otherwise it's ALWAYS going to be limited loss you can make back no matter what with enough time
It's a larper. He wants to larp as le ebin hardcore community member, but he doesn't want to invest anything into it.
>discourages more reckless playstyles
Only brown people get mad at this.
what is the fun of videogames without any risk? holy shit do you only play cookie clickers??
There is no risk if aggression isn't punished.
In a (long abandoned) project me and a friend were making, we stole concepts based on DeS World Tendency and opted to have a flat difficulty setting, but modifiers to attributes of the world as is played will cause varied entities to become Thriving and become significantly more potent in all regards, while a lack of those modifiers (and even some modifiers that work against them) would cause the rest to either remain static or enter Struggling mode. A world where meticulous effort is placed to never modify it would be the easiest game mode, but with the least potential peaks, and a world with an extremely skewed or universally thriving would create a World of the Strong where every single turn is absolutely laden with overwhelmingly powerful enemies who would also grant appropriately overwhelmingly great rewards.
Our dream was for one day for casual players to see something really shiny and just try to lean into the tendency and realize "It's not that bad, maybe a little further and I can see what all the fuss is about", but work and life situations killed our dream.
>dark souls
>punished by death
Black person, the rolling autismo simulators are the biggest trial and error games out there qnd you only lose a resource that is possible to grind and even then you must be a complete moron if you make the same mistake again to lose the souls permanently, even Doom punish the player harshly by respawning with only the pistol and if you forgot to save you're basically fricked in some WADs.
Back in my day we shat on casual players
Souls doesn't have a harsh penalty at all. it even lets you recover your lost exp. if you're hording like multiple levels of exp and dying without being good enough to get back where you were, that's your own fault.
anyone who hasn't moved onto private servers is a moron.
If there's hardly any penalty for dying, why even let the player die at all? Might as well remove health systems entirely.
the penalty for, say a boss fight, is starting the fight over. anything beyond that is unnecessary.
Why have a boss fight?
