I wish there was a best buds system where you could be roommates and not marry. It'd be a waste of time to make because I'd be the only one who would want that but it would be nice. I don't care about romance but it would be nice to have some company.

Like I'm not interested in the Doraemon SoS games despite the great art style specifically because HM without marriage just sounds like "wake up, water plant, go back to bed" simulator.
But RF without marriage would be a-ok. Shit has good enough mechanics to get away with it.
Games like this need meaningful npc interaction, marriage is one such system to create that interaction. I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it does force players to make a choice, and that choice makes people invested in the NPCs.
