This is why the physical/special split was nescesary
haha yeah so now sceptile can't use its signature move that totally fixed the problem lol good job anon!
>Can now use Leaf Blade with Swords Dance
>Energy Ball and Leaf Storm are stronger than Gen 3 Leaf Blade
The only negative about the split is that its coverage got worse
Switch Mega Sceptile's base Attack and Special Attack.
doesn't need more than leaf storm, draco meteor and hidden power
>doesn't need more than move it doesnt get and move that doesnt exist anymore
woah...you mean to tell me the phys/spec split was a mistake? no fricking way
all it's coverage moves were physical types, poop brain
SOVLful remnant from a time when Gamefreak actually cared about interesting game balance by giving huge physical movepools to special attackers, huge special movepools to physical attackers and huge movepools in general to mixed slow attackers.
>huge movepools in general to mixed slow attackers.
You forgot a certain (adverse) adjective there.
>wasting a pokémon's strengths is soulful
meds
And yet Feraligatr was made a physical Attacker despite Water being a special type at the time. I think GameFreak is just biased or inept or both.
not a bad thing, kind of fond of mons that can run viable physical and special builds
infernape does it better as far as starters go though
Didn't stop me from spamming leaf blade and giga drain on everything anyway
Why the frick do Hoennboomers hate the phys/spec split?
it's a shitposter false flag
hoenngays hate anything that's not RSE. they'll never admit it, but it's true.
It's true. RSE are the best games in the series.
How do I play rotation battles in RSE?
You don't. That's why they're the best.
I like RSE but also like DPP.I like the physical-special split but can appreciate niche cases where it might not have been the right call for some pokemon.
Also I'm a Hoenn girl not a hoenn brother
>I like RSE but also like DPP.I like the physical-special split but can appreciate niche cases where it might not have been the right call for some pokemon.
>
>Also I'm a Hoenn girl not a hoenn brother
shut the frick up troony muttnovabort
Based and same, RSE and DPP were the peak of the series. I like both individually for how they’re designed, they have unique appeals from one another yet complement one another perfectly imo
>Leaf Blade
>Crunch
>Dragon Claw
>Thunder Punch
Please understand. This used to be a Special set. Gen 4 split changed moves to be Physical or Special based on their own context. But original Sceptile really was designed for the Gen 3 system, and never quite recovered when it comes to coverage.
Sceptile’s Mega form I guess rectified this by giving it improved stats across the board, but now it’s gone…
OP here, I understand that
They should really swap the stats since phys is way more fun to use
At best it'll either get an ability change like Empoleon did or a physically-oriented regional variant. If the former happens, hope for an ability like Sharpness,Tough Claws, or the like.
Considering how much broken stuff the Sinnoh starters got, Sceptile will get a rework in the next DLC when it returns. Game Freak doesn't hate Hoeen starters like they do the Johto ones.
honestly if it got sharpness and nothing else it would be fine. something tells me either it or meganium is next in line for a regional form though. just a gut feeling.
Funny that Meowscarada is technically a modern version of Gen 3 Sceptile.
Even with the mega, its physical stat only moved to 100. Not bad, but not really worth using a mega for.
balanced:
>swap atk and spa
>give it sharpness
>gains u-turn or knock off or both
broken:
>swap atk and spa
>now gains dragon type
>gains technician
>gains scale shot (if it doesn't get it already)
>gains rock blast
No.
>Ability: Energy Cutter
>Slashing moves are slightly stronger and deal damage based on the user's Sp Atk
>Learns tail glow at lvl 100
>is a special attacker
gen 3 grass is special, not physical
Either swap its physical and special attack stats or give it a special movepool that matches the versatility of its physical movepool.
Personally I'm not holding out hope for its stats swapping, but after Empoleon traded Defiant for Competitive (Which makes better use out of its existing stats and movepool) I am hoping that Sceptile trades Unburden for either Sharpness or Tough Claws.
Tough Claws I feel it would get better mileage out of altogether, but Sharpness is the new hotness that fits Sceptile well while also complementing a good chunk of its movepool.
Sharpness/Tough Claws with its existing stats is a good step in the right direction, although still not ideal. Could still make Sceptile into a good physical sweeper capable of firing off high-power Leaf Storms without worrying about the -2 SPA
Game Freak had a chance to fix Sceptile with its mega like they did with Pidgeot and they only doubled down on it being a special attacker.
Sceptile will always suck unfortunately.
Why is Game Freak so damn stubborn with certain Pokemon?
Usually it’s due to intentional sabotage,
Thankfully ROM hacks exist.
Sceptile with switched attacking stats? ROM hack.
Aurorus with Power Gem? ROM hack.
Tropius with better stats? ROM hack.
Ledian being a weapon greater than Metal Gear? ROM hack.
It's attack is good and it's moron fast, just EV for attack or swords dance and shit out a leaf storm when you need it. Mixed attackers are practically extinct now but mega scep had the stats to make it work.
Wouldn't exactly call 85 Attack "good".
If Sceptile got a regional form, what would you want its typing to be?
I'm partial to Grass/Steel just because Grass is so weak and Steel makes it much better. Imagine a fast sweeper version of Ferrothorn.
Otherwise Grass/Electric could tap into the Lightning Rod aspect of its Mega Evolution, though I would still like a better ability.
In fact give it 3 variants all physical with new abilities and moves added to movepool:
Grass/Electric, Volt absorb, Plasma fists
Grass/Fighting, Sharpness, Sacred sword
Grass/Rock, Technician, Accellerock
I want a Paradox Future Sceptile that's Grass/Electric
I got you, brother
>Blazekick is special
>But also learns physical Fighting moves
>Not a problem because both Attack and Special Attack have HUEG stats
I l;ove Blaziken
don't YOU me with special/physical split because that's newgen garbage
I never liked the split because I don't like the concept of physical-coded types having special moves and vice versa. Like frick off focus blast and zen headbutt. The worst are those special snowflake "I'm a special move but I deal physical damage" bullshit moves. That's just pure power creep, there doesn't need to be a move for every possible situation.
The system was less arbitrary when it was strictly based off types. I'd take weird unintuitive exceptions like the elemental punches over shit like Psyshock existing.
although I do agree with you there are some things that bug me.
Despite growing up with gen1 I never even understood why some attacks made more/less damage despite having the same attack value.
Where were you supposed to get which type is affected by which stat? I never saw it mentioned in the games once! Did I miss it?
I only got a full understanding of this later when the split already happened. That's why I do miss the split sometimes, even if I absolutely agree that Gen1 and also later mons were made with the old split in mind.
Sceptile needs 1 single move to be viable. Are you a bad enough dude to guess what it is?
It’s belly drum.
>A better Slurpuff except typing
Sure I’ll take it
The Physical-Special Split was a mistake that has caused massive game balance issues. If it never happened, I guarantee you that not a single pokemon would be banned in the fanfic metas.
If its stuck with its higher special attack the best it can ask for is probably contrary to spam leaf storm. Also give it earth power. Trying to go physical doesn't really work with its 85 attack unless you do something ridiculous like huge power.
Sharpness would probably turn it into a decent mixed attacker
I don't think Sharpness would make up for a base 85 attack.
It would de the fastest Sharpness user, all the sharpness users are very slow so a sharpness user who could at least tie with the 120 crowd would be great, it would need something for steel types like Sacred Sword.
50% boost to leaf blade is significant with swords dance
It’d be great at cleaning me thinks
you mean
>design makes it look like an attacker
>is actually a stallmon
In what way does his design indicate physical attack? It has no muscle, my wrists are thicker than his arms, and he has a herbivore type beak.
>Fix this NOW
You should start by fixing this garbage design to begin with
Pick your poison, VP
>Pill A
Sceptile gets BDrum, turning it into a blistering fast physical sweeper
>Pill B
Sceptile trades Unburden for Sharpness, allowing it to make more use out of its physical movepool
>Pill C
For every physical move's type in Sceptile's movepool, it gains a special move of the same type (Like since it learns Earthquake, give it Earth Power. Etc.)
I choose pill D
Sceptile gets retconed and grovyle gets a cooler evolution
C and a new ability. Unburden is pretty useless.
>Sceptile is so fast it doesn't need speed investment to outspeed Jolly Slurpuff
>Leaf Blade + Drain Punch + Acrobatics/Rock Slide(delicious flinch chance too) is near perfect neutral coverage
>Would be a staple for any Terrain team
First pill best pill
B pill
Give it Tea Time
>b-but that doesn't make sense
Care to look at the list of all the things that nonsensically learn Stealth Rock? Give it Tea Time.
I fixed Sceptile in my ROM hack. Grass/Steel regional form with higher attack and an awesome design that BTFOs OG Sceptile in every way.
