That's completely wrong. Are you moronic? The only thing they have in common is being smug about their power, which happens with any of the villains. This is a shonen. It's not that hard to see Cell's battle hungry in his final form with vestiges of Piccolo and Goku/Vegeta in him. That in of itself makes for a neat synthesis that makes him unique. You can't put Cell into any other villain and not think of him. Hell, people are saying that with Moro.

Cell had a great character design and the time travel plotline was intriguing at the time.
So anyway, what happened to other alternate timelines made by Trunks and Cell? Like the OG timeline where nobody time-travelled, and the other timeline where Cell killed Trunks and stole the Time Machine?
Presumably the last timeline eventually got fricked over by Buu with literally no one around on wither side to stand up.

Yup. Originally the only villains in the android saga would be 19 and Gero, those were the two androids trunks came from the future to warn them about. AT's editor thought having an old man and a clown as villains was dumb, so he had to create more, and that's where 17 and 18 come from, with 16 just as an added bonus because who cares, there's an extra one for some reason. That still wasn't enough because two punk kids were dumb villains in dragonball, so his editor asked him to make another main villain, which would be Cell.
Here's the problem though, how the frick would they explain that Cell exists and yet wasn't in the future? Well, frick it, he ALSO came from the future, from even further along in time, just in a different timeline, that makes sense right?
The best part of dragon ball is the disregard the universe has for the story. The canon we follow is a failed universe that barely survived a few apocalypses.

The one thing that is really fricking dumb in the Cell saga is him coming back after exploding himself. He somehow survives, in his second form, a massive explosion that killed Goku, learned IT just because, and got and even stronger perfect form despite missing an android also just because. Oh and full stamina recovery as well, because why the frick not.

If I recall correctly as long as a eukaryote remains he can recover from that if we take that scene with a eukaryote exploding as anything else other than an interesting visual. It was supposed to be an improved augmentation of Namekian regeneration from Piccolo's cells alongside his own natural regeneration.

That was a dub thing if I remember correctly. I can't remember if it was the English or original Japanese dub that corrected it. I don't really care too much about shonen plot so I'm not too bothered by it. In fact, I hate it when people try to absolve it too much or come up with detailed explanations because they never put that much thought into it and never really care that much. It just makes it stink of vindication.

Why is it dumb? He's literally the ultimate life form. He had a super saiyan aura since he was born. He got a super saiyan 2 aura just from fighting gohan. You could say Gero designed him to self-destruct and always survive in the end. Cell is ridiculously overpowered.

cell never really gelled with me, nor did the android arc in general. It had the skeleton of a good story but too much editor meddling and lack of foresight of toriyama.
16 could've been a good final boss, if goku stayed in space until late into the arc, vegeta never got super saiyan, ascending pass super saiyan wasn't a thing.
It all comes back to the original vision of Gohan taking over as the MC but getting shelved because goku was more popular. I wonder what kind of story we would have gotten if he stuck to his guns.
