console gaming in a nutshell
But there are 6 Mega Man games on the NES.

It's called Mega Drive everywhere in the world except your land of freedom.
The Genesis sold more in the US than Europe and Japan combined.

Now he has good ROMs.
oh nooooooo someone on Ganker is going to play good games. aaaaah help me
ok?
Let him play good games then you stupid homosexual.
What's always been a thing for me is that if you are PAL then immediately that list is trimmed hard. And some of the best games on SNES, the ones people always default to, never made it off NTSC. So if you're a PAL audience, there's a very strong argument for the Mega Drive being the better console.
I think you've gotten the SNES mixed up with the N64, but you knew that already, didn't you?

eat shit homosexual, how about you finally admit the truth that the genesis was and will always be trash moronic reddit dog poster
Why are you like this?
Autism. Many such cases.
you should see Ganker. the entire board is only console wars.
Genesis hasno good games, Sonic is terrible compared to Mario
I hate the buzzsaw noises and farting noises. The SNES also both looks and sounds better, and has better games to boot. It's not a contest.
This, there's only a handful of games I can remember on the Genesis that didn't sound like a fart compilation and/or didn't look muddy as shit.
I owned both consoles as a kid and I barely played anything other than Sonic 2-3, World of Illusion, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the Genesis.
Lol same. I had an snes from 93 onwards and asked for a Genesis for Xmas of 96. Pretty much played Sonic 2 and 3, and Sparkster. That was it. Was also into rpgs a lot and Sega was lacking those.
Everything new?
That game Is absolute garbage and I bet only the dev cares and post about it
It still in development. Don’t judge.
A little late to this console war aren't you?
This thread is stupid and very predictable. People will list SNES games they deem good and you will simply say "no those are bad!"
If you favor sports/arcade games and Sonic style platforming over Mario-style then of course the Genesis will be a better system... to you.
Just like you can only find 5 snes games you like, others will only find 5 or less Genesis games they like. Welcome to the world of adults OP, where we expect people to understand what personal preferences are while not engaging in "nuh-uh! Based. No Comix zone ?
I thought I put in Comix Zone...
But yes Comix Zone.
I have never heard of 70% of those games. So called Hidden Gem games are often just called so because you played them growing up. If they were actually good they would be more well known since they were on a Genesis/MD which itself was not an obscure console.
Most of them are very well known. But Ganker and normies only know, talk and
love nintendo.
Genesis obscurity comes from the fall of arcade popularity.
Most Nintendo shilled games are Mario, DK, Link and a bunch of RPG's for the most part. IE the easy shit.
Nothing wrong with that but a huge chunk of the SNES library was also arcade focused and just as obscure to non retro game fans.
That's why everyone is like I know Sonic and... the answer is a bunch of arcade bangers if your just willing to give them a try.
This.
When people list the best Snes games you don't see fighting, racing (besides fzero), sports, or arcade games. It isn't that the Snes didn't have those. It had plenty and many were very good. But those types of games were pretty much a given and expected on consoles at the time.
The people posting good Genesis games tend to include those types of games on their lists even though they aren't really special and are very similar to the generic sports/arcade/fighting games on the Snes.
It's like if Tetris was only on the Snes and not Genesis, I wouldn't include Tetris on the Snes list even though it is a good game.
>The people posting good Genesis games tend to include those types of games on their lists even though they aren't really special and are very similar to the generic sports/arcade/fighting games on the Snes.
Yes but I will add that arcade on the Genesis tends to blow arcade on the SNES out of the water thanks to them being run by a literal arcade company and the systems ability to keep a consistent framerate.
SNES has many arcade bangers too but it doesn't quite measure up. It's big specialty was Nintendo 1st party games and RPG's.
>SNES has many arcade bangers too but it doesn't quite measure up. It's big specialty was Nintendo 1st party games and RPG's.
And that goes back to the crux of the issue... preference. While many do prefer the types of games the Genesis had, the majority preferred what the Snes had to offer.
If Snes was Dark Souls 1 then Genesis was Dark Souls 2. Most people prefer what 1 had to offer, but there are people that think 2 is better.. they are just in the minority.
>And that goes back to the crux of the issue... preference. While many do prefer the types of games the Genesis had, the majority preferred what the Snes had to offer.
Genesis sales equaled SNES sales in the US and the MegaDrive outsold the SNES in Europe. Only in Japan did the SNES heavily outsell the Mega Drive partially because the PC Engine was it's main competitor so MD never took off.
At the time arcade was king and it reflected in the Genesis's high sales.
Well, then the vast majority of people that buy video game consoles preferred the Snes.
You can break it up into countries, but that doesn't mean anything as what matters is what the overall market preferred. Otherwise a small country that sold 100 Genesis vs 7 Snes could be viewed as a massive preference lean, but that means nothing in global sales.
Anyways, last I checked Snes was the leader in North America.
What made Genesis seem like an actual competitor is their marketing, that it arrived before the SNES, and how Nintendo has problems with production meeting demand. Some kids got a genesis just because no Nintendos were in stock.
All genesis had was sonic when you get right down to it. I knew kids who had a SNES, they'd have like a dozen games. But kids with a Genesis had maybe 3. They'd rent games now and then but never buy. Renting blockbuster games for the weekend was a big thing back then. Years before finally getting an N64 we would rent one for parties to play mario kart.
But if you went to another kid's house and they had a Genesis they would have Sonic games and then maybe a couple sports games they never touched. You'd play as tails though and think "wow this game is cool" but it the idea of replacing donkey kong country with it was unappealing.
I always hated being the one forced to play as Tails in Sonic 2.
Also I was that kid. I had an Snes with about 20 games and a Genesis with about 3 or 4. Any Genesis game I rented was always just 'decent but never made me want to own a copy.
Snes games I rented led to a lot of xmas and birthday requests pretty quickly.
I never got maui mallard. We rented it twice, it seemed amazing to me but I kept getting stuck on the first ninja level, but I was never able to get my hands on an actual copy.
And that old jontron video about dinocity was spot on because I have no idea where or how we got that game, it was just something overlooked in our box of games that maybe came from a garage sale or was formerly a cousin's when they got an N64 and no longer cared about their SNES.
And despite being a weird random thing it was actually a good game.
I never saw sega games where that happened. No random games that only you seemed to remember, no rentals you really wanted your own copy of. It was just sonic, more sonic, and games both consoles had anyway, and rentals that were never good enough to need more than a weekend to enjoy.
What made Sonic stand out to a nintendo kid though was that it had co-op where you played at the same time. All the top nintendo games (at least that we had) only let you take turns to play multiplayer or you played against each other. So playing on tails was a crazy novelty to me.
>Well, then the vast majority of people that buy video game consoles preferred the Snes.
Okay cool. Not in North America or Europe. Remember this whole conversation is about how the fall of arcade popularity led to SNES getting a better reputation than the Genesis 30 years later.
>You can break it up into countries, but that doesn't mean anything
It does because we are talking about reputation on English speaking forums.
>Anyways, last I checked SNES was the leader in North America.
Tied for sales but talked about more now days... which is what this whole conversation is about.
Did you lose the plot?
The Snes is talked about more not just on here but in general. Also since when was speaking English a requirement for liking the Genesis. Would that mean the parts of Europe that don't speak English don't mean anything in terms of opinions or their sales?
Top games of the 90s, 16 bit era, or even all time on YouTube and the general internet always have more Snes games listed than Genesis.
Also the argument is about which system has more 'good' games. While the lack of certain Snes games being available for sale in Europe would have been an issue then, today with emulation anyone can try all the games. I am sure the majority on a poll would once again conclude the Snes as the winner with all games from both systems being available.
>The Snes is talked about more not just on here but in general.
Yes I know. That's the point. I am talking about why SNES is more popular today and talked about more despite not having better sales outside of Japan. The reason is that the popular games on Genesis are arcade games and they have fallen out of mainstream favor.
>Top games of the 90s, 16 bit era, or even all time on YouTube and the general internet always have more Snes games listed than Genesis.
Because arcade games have fallen out of favor.
>Also the argument is about which system has more 'good' games.
Is subjective. Ninty 1st party and RPG folks go SNES, arcade fans lean Genesis. Popularity has shifted away from arcade.
That is because this console war is over. More people bought the SNES over Genesis for the reason that most consoles sell well...the games. PSX had better game variety and quantity cumulatively compared to N64.
Those battles are over. The Genesis/MegaDrive was the lower based on consensus preference. Time for you to move on. It's OK for you to like X when most people picked Y. Learn to live your life without stressing about trying to make people think X was better. They already made that choice long ago
>b-but genesis sucks because i'm an ignorant homosexual!!1
that's literally what you're saying right now
MD is absolute garbage.
You're garbage.
the only good CD titles on that list are:
Lunar 1 & 2
Final Fight CD
Snatcher
No. Most of them are awesome and some are the best version o said game available. Also popul mail is a masteprice.
It's a darn shame you feel that way about some pretty awesome games. Especially the shmups.
Imagine talking shit about lords of thunder.
Is a nintihomosexual leave him alone.
5 games is better than no games perhaps? there's actually like 50+
Cause those 5 games were better than the 2 games genesis had
Zoomer spamming bait threads about older consoles
OP list good Genesis games
Everyone keeps shilling Sparkster and Dark Castle to me when I ask for good non-Sonic Genesis games.
Are they really worth playing?
Dark Castle is fricking horrible
What 5 games were "worth playing" on the SNES? I want to laugh at your shit taste.
It feels stronger than it was comparatively because the NES is too outdated, and it was followed up by the N64 and Gamecube which both had a lot of problems.
either you're a contrarian or you are moronic.
Because that's about 5 more games than the genesis had
Sunset Riders, Super Metroid, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super Mario World, 3 Donkey Kong games, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, etc etc, plus the others people are listing.
moronic take, comrade
I love both cosoles. Frick the haters.
Five games worth playing
>R-Type 3
>Axelay
>UN Squadron
>Gradius 3
>Scrambled Valkyrie
Not counting the Super Scope exclusive game Metal Combat
Absolutely correct.
anon you can't just post that image and not put live chatting parodius in your list
Well, if you know, then you know. Gradius 3 is easily swapped for Parodius
**I really wish Sue and Memim would get their own animation**
Why did you post a picture of the SNES when you just described the N64 and Dreamcast?
i would have a hard time naming 5 bad games on the snes
But did Snes have Sonic 2, Sonic 3&K, Altered Beast, uncensored Mortal Kombat, Dark Castle, and Moon Walker? I didn't think so.
Those games have some heavy homosexual subtext. Easy to see why you like them.
Super Mario World
Super Mario RPG

You're thinking of the N64. The SNES was actually great.
Both are great consoles with plenty of great games. You can get fricked, OP.
Tips for not ending like OP
Genesis library suffers from how hard it flopped in Japan. More games were released in NA than in Japan and very few western developers knew how to make good or even passable console games at the time.
Because the Genesis has 0
No true gamer thinks this isn't worse than the Genesis.
