Has any other game done gacha in a buy to play game?

Xenoblade 2 had a gacha system to grind with no microtransactions. This pleases my tism but I can't find any other games like it.

Do they exist?
or
Can I get cracked versions of mobile gachas with unlimited premium currency?

Hajimari and Kuro no Kiseki 2 do. In the former there are some characters for the randomly generated dungeon locked behind it (not usable in story) and in the latter it is just items and costumes.

    >Can I get cracked versions of mobile gachas with unlimited premium currency?
Generally no, gachas keep the currency count server side to prevent this sort of thing.

Yokai Watch has a literal gacha machine which dispenses items and Yokai.
In Shining Resonance Refrain a small amount kf in-game currency nets a virtual figure of an enemy or character you can rotate.

Spell merchants in Zanzarah had you pay upfront to let you pick spells out of a random pool. Each merchant covered like three different schools of magic so it could take some trying to get what you needed.

    Lost planet 2. TPS though.
Mega man battle network, trade in chips for a random one.

Megaman Command Mission has a gacha, but its purely for collection autism and has no effect on gameplay.

Rance X. You basically control an army and getting extra characters is based on a gacha, so multiple playthroughs will usually have you with completely different characters.

I can't recommend it as a standalone game though, you need to play a few of the older Rance games like 6 to appreciate it, not even mentioning the fact you need to know Japanese.

the stupid core summoning mechanic is what made 2 the worst out of the bunch imo
fricking side quests locked to rng

No, but XC2 had you have an entire summoning gimmick for Blades with there being both various rarities of what'd you'd get and different rarities of what you used to summon them
On top of the summoning item being random loot

iirc they had to patch in the ability to skip the cutscene

I love Xenoblade 2 but I’m very glad they made those cutscenes skippable. Now go back and update it to guarantee rare blades in post game and let me swap out main blades without going in to NG+ thank you

          >Now go back and update it to guarantee rare blades in post game
that'd actually make too much sense

by the time i finally gave up i had everyone but vale and wasn't willing to keep grinding just to 100% it

I'm 80 hours into the story on my first save, so only 40 more to hit NG+ if im lucky. I'm considering picking it back up to just enjoy the NG+ its just sad you don'tr really get to play with the OP mechanics til then.

Technically Pokemon had a twist on Gatcha-like system before they dropped random encounters for visible ones.
You "rolled" characters via going back and forth in grass etc. and used currency to buy Pokeballs that let you have a chance to obtain encountered creature. There are rare species and even shit like shinies that count as special flashy roll.

So did Dragon Quest, by that logic. Or every other game with random encounters.

        I mean, yeah.
The difference is that in Pokemon random encounters were more than just surprise enemies to defeat but also source of main tools used by players - Pokemon themselves. Just as gatcha is source of whatever cards or other shits you collect. Gatcha at its basic is just attaching any form of RNG system with rolls limited by certain resources (irl or in-game money, usually) to player's tools.

Pokeballs are literally just gacha balls to begin with because it's something that Japanese children are familiar with.

I get the feeling that a lot of zoomers discussing gacha recently have no idea what gachapon is.

gacha means a literal slots mechanic. Gacha does not equal random chance.
By that logic every jrpg is now a gacha game. But here you are, acting smart and talking about "zoomers".

Egglia. It was originally a mobile game but it was pay per chapter while it was online. After it shutdown only the first of 3 chapters was available outside of Japan. It later got a global rerelease on Switch with every chapter made available.

I will look into yokai watch but I expect it might not be my thing

I'm looking for games with a literal gacha mechanic (use items to randomly get characters) that you can buy straight up. Random encounters / looter shooters don't count

      Lost planet 2. TPS though.
Mega man battle network, trade in chips for a random one.

Chaos Rings III has a gacha system complete with "premium currency" (not actually purchasable with real money) you get every day you play it. It also has a separate battle mode with time limited challenges for rewards and cards to fill out for prizes. All of this attached to a honest to goodness dozens of hours long JRPG.
