For a legitimate answer black souls 2 easily surpasses it in all margins.
Tho F&H it's unique and is it's own thing regardless meaning even if there's something better there's still a reason to play it, and so far nothing has matched it's particularly way of being

Starts off as a seemingly generic rpgmaker H-game with bad art
And then, slowly, the story unfolds. By the end of BS2 it's practically a horror game

But is the game fun? What about the combat?

BS1 is "spam magic to win"
BS2 gives you fun mechanics, but if you actually know how to use them, the game becomes too easy
BS2 DLC3 is when the actual challenge starts, 40 hours into the series

There are also lvl 1 runs, which are fun, but might be nigh-impossible for a first-time player

It's getting tiresome to see all these retro-styled games in 2022 A.D., can't we make another leap like 2003-2008 did?

thats more reasonable, from the small amount of time i spent playing that game most of what i've seen has been drawn with no stock assets

F&H is pure godless suffering. But thats the fun of it. You have to treat the game like one giant puzzle that you slowly unraval and figure out more of. Wether you succeed or not is entirely determined by how well you understand the game and its mechanics.

Played the game, got to first bed:
        >flip a coin to save your game
        >flip a coin to see if you die
        >flip a coin to see if you win a fight
Alt+f4 and deleted it, frick that gay shit. RNG is way too fricking heavy.

There are a few ways to save your game risk free. and if your getting to the coin toss stage of combat, you aren't fighting effectively. Combat is a last resort is this game, and if you do engage in it, you have to figure out the patterns and different attacks enemies will use.

Weirdly F&H reminds me of the learning curve to fighting games, rough as shit once you're getting started and can only really be enjoyed after properly learning the rules and mechanics.
Even still there's going to be a few "well how the frick was I supposed to know that?" moments.

Really? I didn't feel like there was some hidden mechanics in this game. Can you give an example?
Okay, one thing would be getting that sword from the stone and getting out alive from the cave in in the mines. That one I discovered from some guy in a thread some time ago

QRD on the game? Is it a pixelshit dungeon crawler?

it's an rpgmaker game without level ups, you rely more on gear and knowhow to get around the game and find particular items or recruit people into your party
the combat system is rather unique where you can target enemy limbs and cripple aspects of them before finishing them off. it's not without quirks though, some enemies can intentionally get one last strike in against you AFTER you've lopped off their head
the game has a couple/few different dungeon layouts early on, and the loot you find will be random. but each item you can find actually feels like they can serve a purpose, and sometimes you can just find something really helpful like a ring that heals your sanity. basically searching every crate/barrel is like a dopamine hit, shit's awesome
despite people considering it a 'roguelite', you can save in this game, and it's easier than ever now to save with the newest version. early on, saving has a risk of you getting fricked. later on, after you've dealt with threats or find safer beds, you can save as much as you want.

          >hopefully it was me
If that was you, thanks! I am still wondering though, how did the dev intend us to get the sword in the first place? I feel like teleporting is cheating. Is there another way to get the sword?

Shame all their next games didn't have the same impact. All of them focus too much on romance and marriage too much, and they already perfected the theme in the first game.

The game has already ballooned way past the initial expectations, he wasn't thinking of making everyone in the train playable at the start, for example.

Every added character meant rearranging events, as well as adding unique character story elements/gameplay/etc, I don't envy his workload but he's clearly loving it.
