I would argue no. Smash 64 was a game about making reanimated toys duke it out no cute dioramas in a child's bedroom. Melee was instead a collection of random assets flailing around nonsensical locations.

That's has nothing to do with whether the game aged well or not. Melee's presentation is still pristine in the music, graphics and UI department - imo it's the most consistent Smash game. Gameplay being the best in the series notwithstanding

This is a truer test of skill than 1v1. 1v1 rewards lame shit like laser camping, techchase 0tD, chaingrabs, etc. In the chaos of a FFA with items on wacky stages you improvisation and awareness matter more. Anyone willing to play like a gay will be BTFO by the combined wrath of three Ganondorfs.
My brother and I used to play with items on very high. I can't claim to be on a competitive level, but I was probably clenching as hard trying to weave hits into wandering bobombs and poison mushrooms.
I dont give a shit about competitive gaming but Melee is still the best game followed by 64. That speaks more to Brawl, 4 and Ultimate being inferior products.
I liked Melee and Brawl singeplayer, and 64 is still fun if you just want to unlock everyone attempt Very Hard and move on.
64 has the best sound effects and atmosphere.
Compare Smash attacks from 64 to Ultimate, besides bit rate the intensity was lost.
