If anything it'll be good for them, these obvious ESG designed games are the gaming industry equivalent of a tax write-off. It's not a Flopspoken/Saints Row scenario where an entire studio is deluded and betting their future on some crap no one wants.

      >it shakes consumer and investor confidence long term
No it doesn't. People just stick around like batted housewives, believing that a new version or a series of patches or even a full-on sequel will fix everything if they just hang on a little while longer--which always turns out to be 3-5. After which, if they get ANYTHING, even if it's just going from insultingly broken to painfully mediocre, they're sing their praises to high heaven or just lie through their teeth as much as possible to bring everyone back in, so a single cent isn't lost along the way.

Most of these mistakes and shit releases can be smelt from a mile away; if they still bought in anyways, they're already a lost cause and gonna stick with it anyways. At most, you might be able to say nobody has confidence in a release being good anymore, but instead it's twisted into people having infinite confidence that things will be fixed in one way or another, so people buy shit games anyways.

This is not new. DS2 has always had it's vocal minority. People swore it was the best one in DS3 and BB threads.

No. I knew DS2 was the second best souls game the moment I played it. I swear there’s a real correlation between IQ and whether you prefer DS2 or Sekiro. Brains over reflexes.
What I find funny is despite IQ everyone agrees BB is first. Anytime someone puts DS2 over BB than your comment makes sense.

Everything we are talking about is comparatively. DS2 involves more planning and patience, plus I appreciate the Nietzschein plot. The levels feel more Jungian in archetypes which is impossible to quantify but is my opinion all the same.
Sekiro has no equipment, no build differences to speak of, and just involves spamming block.
Again though, and I think this is the detail your not appreciating, I’m just speaking comparatively between souls games. In the end it’s all the same formula.

I admittedly never played sotfs, but ds2 was extremely dull. It was enjoyable for one run, but when I hit NG+ I just felt no desire to move forward. I set it down and never touched it again, unlike DS1, DeS, and BB. DS2 and 3 just weren't as good, but DS2 even more so.

the truth is that most people don't care if a game is shitty, as long as it's not THAT shitty (last saints row for example)

  7. 8 months ago
    Anonymous

The video game market is now so massive that you don't need to put nearly in as much effort to make millions. That's the problem. The percentage of the audience that actually cares about the quality of video games is a minority that is constantly being overtaken by a growing number of people that have barely started playing games within the last 3 years. The number of people who enter the market who have no frame of reference for how good games can be is consistently expanding while the market of people who have been playing games for 10+ years is constantly shrinking.

Compound that with the fact that games are no longer projects by talented and passionate developers. They're all made-to-order by publishers milking IPs and getting all their hires off Linkedin. They don't fund projects cooked up by dev teams. They have a marketing team cook up an optimal release timeline then go out and hire teams of 5,000 unreleated, scattered people to "make a new Marvel game". They're all just given jobs and have no sense of unity or commitment to a project that means anything to them personally.

      Anonymous

Truth. Video gaming got industrialized. It's a job. Game developers feel about their work same way everyone else. They put in the bare minimum to not get fired and live their life. It got so big almost all games and consoles are marketed to a normie market. All games are sanitized, using the same blueprint, barely functioning slop that would get bought regardless of whether it has 5000 bugs or if it looks and plays like ass. Whole genres have died because of this. Innovation is now something exclusively left to indie developers. You'll never play an RTS or a game like The Sting ever again.

Just disengage from this. Unplug. Get off of Ganker if you have to. Don't live this life. Don't go anywhere else, but don't stay here.

I agree that this is the best place but also the worst place. The only real good places left are the places you create in real life with real people you meet.
This place used to have something going for it in that it was somewhere you could speak openly and be offensive, or combative when suitable, but given enough time it warped into you must be offensive and combative and there can be nothing else. Every interaction, or almost, is tinged with this. As much as I hate the unified censorious posture almost all other social media has taken, this isn't the remedy to it.

For small community games, it definitely can work. Wrath of the Righteous had a hotfix within 4 hours of a patch releasing to take out telemetry stuff because people b***hed hard enough. For big games that normalgays will just buy anyway, it doesn't matter.

You are a Chud therefore your opinion is review bombing. Don't try to argue, it's just how it is.

A lot of negative reviews are just "it runs bad on my 1060 and i5 2500k, unoptimised!"

Series X runs Starfield on Medium-ish settings at 1440p, frick off expecting your 2016 hardware to do better.

I 100% blame this on fricking off-shore Indian devs. Once upon a time coding was 5-10 nerds in a basement in your City office somewhere. They were forced to work long hours, fed pizza and managed to shit out half a decent product.

Nowadays everythings fricking Agile, Scrum, Daily Standups and x50 off-shore Pajeets who can't code for shit. Have you seen the credits for Starfield? They recruited half of fricking Dehli and still can't even make a good product.

Why is it called review bombing? It's just a natural reaction to games so offensively bad, that they elicit a ton of passionate criticism and disapproval.
The company and devs bring it on themselves, they're the ones creating and releasing shit games, are people who play them just supposed to be docile, blind golems?

      Anonymous

Because the game is bombing in the reviews. Bombing, like box office bombing, meaning to do poorly.

      Anonymous

Review bombing referred to people bombing a game with bad reviews due to reasons not directly related to the game itself. Nowadays it's just used for any time the proles get uppity

      >are people who play them just supposed to be docile, blind golems?
      Yes.
      reviews are a positivity circlejerk.
hence why steam marks reviews as "off topic" even if they're directly as a result of moronic decisions.

I think its gone a bit off the track lately, I expect most major releases to have shit reviews and 95% of them due to people not liking a company or stuff unrelated to the game.
I get that AAA vidya is pretty shit nowadays but its also insufferable to see all the people trying to fit in by making le funny bad review, plus as OP mentions, things that have a lot of buzz about them still normally end up making money.
It's more effective to avoid steaming hot pieces of shit rather than wading into them so that you can show off how smelly you are so that the next dumbfrick also tries it cause it looked funny

The people that are trying to fit in is in the minority. AAA titles have been abundantly and unanimously shit.

i'm going to negatively review every game i play because i don't want the game devs to be happy
moreover i'm going to berate anybody who plays the games i do because it's entertaining
