ZoS came down and asked the community what they wanted, they heard and re-released the game, which is what it is now.
Also there are townhalls and other stuff, mainly ZoS themselves promoting guilds and RP events made by the community at twitch during streams, also thanks to twitch, people are getting regular good stuff with the drops.
in fact it isn't a MMO by now now, is simply a huge NWN1 and BG server where people goes fricking around having fun doing quests solo, doing other stuff, or playing with frens with RP or not.

Lots to hate, especially since ZoS have been blowing hot air about addressing any of these issues for years and haven't
I like it anon, but it's not a particularly good MMO. You have this big open world with their over-hyped megaservers which keep everyone in one instance, but frick me if there's anything to do with people. The most you'll get out of it is maybe a few extra players wanting to fight the same world boss for a daily quest, but that's about it. There's no real social interaction outside of RP, although the RP is at least interesting. You have a bunch of mega lomorons going nuts because it's been several years since launch, and they'll create the most incredibly dumb, yet canon options for their new characters like a D&D player who has been at this for too long and made a levitating hand as their character. Ironically, this proves that the most fun thing in this game is the social element, but I wish there was more to do. Skill lines are daunting at first, but now I have over 60 skillpoints that I can't really put anywhere because I have too many of the things, and I haven't even collected them all. Generally, balance is a bit fricked too, since it's a level scaled MMO. Power comes from your item set, but once you have a good one, you never need to change it ever again. I've been running the same items for over a year, and I still out-DPS other players on the regular.

Also ESO made what everyone asked for a long time, fix the frickup caused by MW and Oblivion due to the writers forgetting the previous games, which Boethiah was "male", and retconned her back to Female with shapeshifting powers to test mortals because its canon that she is the birthmother of Nerevar and the Wife of Prophet Veloth, the father of the Chimer and Dunmer, the genderless shenanigans is still a thing but Daedric Princes prefers what they really look like, in this case Mephala looking like the BDSM version of the Statue of Liberty and Meridia keeping her Magne-ge form even as her mortal disguise because the b***h knows that "innocent looking blonde girls" fools idiots into her bidding.
and they didn't toned down on Sheogorath's quests, even with the stupid look he got, people asked for his real persona, and shit gets fricked, mainly the Skooma Cat quest which completely kills the crazy cheese uncle guy into how evil he really is.

Honestly, people act like the lore in these games is some amazing unparalleled achievement, but all the best stuff isn't even in the actual games. The games themselves are fairly generic across the board.
