I honestly don't get why people hated the Arkham combat
On higher difficulties the combat feels so fricking good as combos and gadgets and parrying really matter.
I fricking miss how fluid and fast Arkham combat felt when compared to the slow ass combat of most games coming out today.

Because they all played on easy/normal and never did the challenges, which are legit hard and force you to perfect the combat.

arkham combat is prime example of why gamers actually need their hand held for the first 1/3rd of the game and told how to play the game in excruciating almost torturous detail.
even supposed veterans of games just resort to button mashing instead of engaging with the system.

You're right about that. You'd think each fight taking 20 years when you button mash your way through would be a giveaway that's not how you're meant to play.

        >I honestly don't get why people hated the Arkham combat.
It's very basic and simplistic and the higher difficulties don't really change much aside from removing HUD elements and punishing you more for your mistakes.
It doesn't change things in any meaningful capacity and if you're timing critical strikes you have invincibility frames on demand in a finisher anyway as a get out of jail free card.
I don't get why people loathe it either, it's serviceable but that's about it. If you compare it to proper action games like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry it falls completely flat by comparison.

It's true for something as basic as Kingdom Hearts which is a children's game where mashing X is no longer sufficient and you need to start dodging, baiting out enemy attacks and space your own properly.
In Batman you just do the same thing as on the other difficulties but you're afforded fewer mistakes and crutches are disabled.

Just because hack devs poorly copy Arkham's combat doesn't mean it's unenjoyable. It's the same type of thinking with how FPS games copied Halo's two-weapon/melee/grenade system. Blame unoriginal devs, not the source where it came from.

They're about equal in mechanical depth. Highly accessible to casual audiences. People just prefer the "souls" style of combat because people have memed it into being challenging even though you can approach every fight the exact same way, granted that's also a problem with Bamham combat.

      >I don't know why they dropped this series so quickly. There's so many other Batman stories they could have adapted into the Arkham format, there could have easily been like 8 more games.

Literally because WB is moronic and WB Montreal is a trash studio who can't do anything right.

The original plan was that Rocksteady wanted to make a Superman game after Knight and Montreal was going to make a Suicide Squad game. Montreal being a shit studio couldn't get the SS game working so Rocksteady literally had to take over their shit project and Montreal was told to make a new Arkham game with Damian Wayne instead since that's already blueprinted and proven. Then WB changed their minds again and told Rocksteady and Montreal that all games need to be Destiny GAAS shit now since that's what sells. So the new Arkham game got cancelled and turned into Gotham Knights instead.

Basically Rocksteady was a great studio that got fricked over because everyone around them were incompetent morons.

the series ended perfectly with Knight.

Thank gods they had stopped now, before they would have a chance to ruin it. They kept doubling down on "collect 100 Riddlers", just imagine, what it would be 8 games later.

It still had so much potential. They could have gone really crazy and branched out into Elseworlds. Imagine a Gotham By Gaslight or Dark Knight of the Round Table game in Arkham-style.

I really have no idea, the 100 million number comes from a Gamespot's most expensive games ever. It was published by Activision which does have a "go big or go home" mentality to games, also the studio High Moon made those Transformers games and the game flopped so badly they became a Call of Duty support studio.

Classic story about the hero saving the princess from the evil dragon requires initial motivation for the hero and, preferably, reward after the process. By default, princess is a reward. But when princess have no good appearance (is ugly), when also her temper is awful, when she is unlikable on every level including physical - hero gets somewhat disappointed - what if princess was the monster all along? And videogames, in most cases, put player in the role of the hero - and modern videogames usually give princesses-monsters so disgusting in every of internal and external features, that the hero-player just rightfully don't want this adventure anymore. And it would be somewhat okay, if princess would just be replaced by treasure/spirit of friendship/kingdom/put-any-valuable-thing-here. But the pincess-monster is a mandatory part. All because some asshomosexuals want to appeal to "wider audience" by removing everything, that is attractive only to the main audience.
