why are video game miniguns always shit?

DPS balancing is some of the dumbest shit in games. Make ammo conservation a real gameplay concern, simulate recoil realistically, or just let players have fun. Automatic fire doesn't "break the balance" if bullets already kill with a doubletap across the board. If your "hard" enemies just have stacks of health without better weapons or mechanics, you failed at balance already.
I wonder how it would perform with the armor penetration skill. if I'm understanding it correctly, if you get the X-989 Microgun at level 37, it adds an Lacerate effect, and then a Skip-Shot effect at level 44.

~900dps is shit, simple as. Burst damage of a beowolf dmr beats it at 700fps firing bullets that do 5x the damage a shot. The magsheer just patently shits all over it as an automatic weapon. Bethesda has never made a useful minigun in 4 games.
I hoped that skip-shot would help with its double damage combined with that fire rate, but I guess with the low base damage, it wouldn't be that noticeable. what a shame.

lacerate, furious, or the explosive/poison rng chance would be the only legendary effects worth a damn on a minigun. The quest gun gives you one useful one and yet the gun is still useless. +30% damage to terrormorphs and still takes 600 rounds to kill one.

Despite being able to sequence break, they still aren't carried by enemies or drop in the level list until past like lv30. Ironically for being such fricking shit in the hands of the player, they're the only semi challenging thing in the game to fight the rare times the AI doesn't bug out on the spinup to never shoot them. If the spacer holds down the brrrrt button and you aren't paying attention it can actually body your maxstatman character in about 7 seconds. But like everything else enemies carry it just can't out DPS healing items.
vidya guns have to be neutered because they are made to kill not for fun. AA-12 is my fav gun ever made but i'll be fricked if it's ever come close to what it's like in real life. actual fricking murdering machine

2's firestorm cannon is better imo, 1's is ok but does the low damage per bullet thing and you can't headshot iirc.
Favorite gun in EYE. There's much ado about the "starting weapon smg" uzi, but fact is that you could just grab the minigun and load yourself up in tank armor and enough ammo to kill everything in the game and then roll out right from the start, too.

Funnily enough, the chaingun is actually your best long distance weapon if you tap the fire button so every shot is accurate.

It's a shame since miniguns were absolute rape machines in 1/2. Even power armor wouldn't always save you from absurd crits deleting you.

Because by its nature its a low skill weapon, they should be unsatisfying.
Still the best looking, sounding, and effective minigun I've seen in a game so far. 4's is OK, but they added spread and the sound kinda sucks.
SS's minigun is kino, but I get why they nerfed it for 4. Perfect accuracy hitscan with insane DPS is way too powerful for its own good.

Heavy is honestly one of the most fun classes in TF2. There's nothing like taking out the entire team after flanking them with the minigun.
