They saw that the game had failed, and they also saw that it was a PvP game. Despite these things not being related, they defaulted to thinking that Hawken being a PvP game was what caused it to fail, so they made Reborn into a PvE game. That's about the extent of their reasoning.

it had a certain Mechwarrior-ish appeal. The movement limitations meant that combat had to be a bit more tactical. I enjoyed it back in its heyday, but it's no longer worthwhile.
