The moderation has been getting worse. Interesting threads get deleted immediately, you get banned for virtuous racism and bait shit is stays up until it hits the reply cap
>you get banned for virtuous racism
it's still fricking hilarious to me how racism is officially not allowed anywhere besides /b/ yet jannies use that as the reason to ban you if they don't like one of your posts
if you use the catalog and click the same kinds of threads over and over no shit you'll be talking to the same people, especially if it's niche shit only a dozen people on Ganker know, it might even get to the point where you'll start recognizing typos, writing styles and filename patterns
"You hurt the feelings of the chinese people"
Beurou has to make sure the chinese collective don't stand for any lip because their operational rulebook was written by morons so they're telling their 5 cent warriors to get busy because steam didn't go and die for the honor of china.
No one is your friend if there's no incentive for them to engage with you.
IE, online friends will never be friends. There's nothing stopping them from just never logging in again one day, period.
>IE, online friends will never be friends. There's nothing stopping them from just never logging in again one day, period.
everything is conditional, friends and love too
if you're boring, ugly, poor, dumb, annoying (depressed, cringe) then people will avoid you especially npcs who want you to be 100% normal
Yes, that's what I said.
If there's no incentive for people to engage with you, then you won't have friends.
If you don't have value to offer, why would anyone want to be with you in any capacity?
i blame propaganda on TV for brainwashing people into thinking unconditional love and friendship exist. Only your parents can offer you that IF you're lucky. Everything is transactional. These homosexuals are gonna be shocked when they turn 30 and every woman is gonna condition starfish sex worse than a prostitute.
>everything is conditional
you're only leaving out that those "conditions" are usually one way and i am not anyone's slave
>if you're boring, ugly, poor, dumb, annoying (depressed, cringe)
bruh you can get away with A LOT of weird shit if you're in one of those "conditional" """relationships"""
I've had plenty. Thing is, we had incentive to interact because we saw each other every day and the awkwardness of NOT interacting was worse than just interacting.
there was value to our friendship in that alone.
I've made several friends on discord that I've known for more than 2 years. we talk a lot in vc and play a lot of games but its never filled the void of when i did the same with my irl friends who i dont really talk to anymore
>they're trying waay to hard to be funny with overly decked out profiles with gaudy shit everywhere >they have 13 frieends
every frickin time
>Have 16 friends who have been offline for more than a year >13 of those are 3-8 years gone with an average of about 5 years probably (I'm seeing a lot of 1000, 2000, 3000, even a 4000!) >Know for a fact one of them is genuinely dead (IRL) >Guy who unadded me half a decade ago added me back and trooned out >Old online friend group has 1 possible troon and I suspect the other one is could troon out as well >Only talk to like 13 of my 76 friends and half of those are just IRLs anyway
Things were so much simpler back then. People would add you just to play games you had and you wouldn't even need to hop on any voice chat. Nowadays people add you for something in your inventory or if they're a bot. Hell, the same thing can be said about getting messaged on steam in general. Just trade offers or hacked accounts.
>Have a smallish friend group on steam >Become seriously ill, along with other shit >end up not using steam for just over a year >come back >three of my steam friends trooned out, and the other two privated their profiles, changed usernames (not just on steam) to escape the troons
I dont have any IRL friends, so I thought about trying to get steam friends. But I have social anxiety and dont know what kind of games I really would want to play.
Ive never once used voice chat in a game, and avoided multiplayer almost altogether.
You don't want to be friends with people these days. They either full-blown homosexuals who can't take a joke or full-blown /misc/acks whose entire personality is their racism and opinions on [current event]
I mostly find online friends annoying. I play what I want when I want, I don't want to be invited to games. Sometimes I'll join a Ganker lobby but that's as close as I care to get.
>make plenty of Steam friends during Winter Sale gift threads >want to make friends but don't want them to feel obligated for receiving free vidya >instead, want to remove them in case they ask for shit this year
Friends are hard; I should kill myself.
I only have 2 friends I talk to on steam and I met both of them in highschool.
I haven't seen them IRL in over a decade. But I still consider them my best friends since we've talked to each other almost every day for the past 14 years. When the day comes where we link back up I honestly don't know what we'd do because our whole friendship is based around things you do online and we're all pretty introverted.
>haha hey you're gotten taller yadda yadda okay lets play vidya, oh wait most local multiplayer games suck nowadays. Okay I'll just go back home and hop on my PC.
>guy from work asks for my steam >add him and talk about ark and the isle >two years later >his profile picture disappears from steam's activity page >fricker unadded me
I only have former IRL friends on steam.
I dont know why I still hold on and dont delete them.
I still go invisible the second I log on so they dont see me. Most havent logged in for years.
Im really bitter and sad about one of them. I guess it would feel like shutting the door for good, when in reality the door has already been slammed and locked.
Still feels weird
Holy shit, literally me. I only have 3 friends on steam, 1 is my cousin which I added to play spiral knights like 10 years ago or something, then the other 2 were my irl friends from highschool. I used to play everyday with one of them, then he got married at 20 with a girl from one of those crazy church cults and stopped talking with everyone.
Sucks man, we used to play everything that came out and always had a blast.
He has been offline for years, but every once I see in my activity that he bought a game.
>best friend all the way through highschool >call him on the phone every single night >get car, drive to each others house like 5 nights a week >goes to college, hang out at his apartment all the time >gets job, I get job in same field but he is more busy im more busy >have to be the one to keep in touch, he never wants to hang or play games. >shop i work at needs an employee, I call him and ask him if any of his church friends need a job >get his friend a job sight unseen, i vouch for him. >buddy stops responding to texts, im always the one who initiates >when I finally meet this person I got a job, "oh I didnt realize you two were friends, he just said "someone I know from high school" >we didnt go to highschool, I drove from a city away to hang out >kid says "i hear hes getting married" >i quit my job shortly after unrelatedly >friend gets married, has a kid, buys a house IN THE SMALL CITY OF 5000 I LIVE IN and just doesnt tell me, ignores my texts
Turns out he married this girl from his very small church. He refused to ever let me meet her in years prior. He chased her for over a decade, she ended writing a letter essentially saying no and itll never happen we arent compatible stop talking to me.
Somehow she relented and married him and I never hear from him again.
Friends groups have come and gone and its never bothered me, but THIS. THIS bothers me, because it was the one person I truly thought would never stray away from.
I saw his parents at the store and they were gushing "why havent you talked to him?" and talked my ear off.
I dont really want to talk to him, I dont really ever want to see him again, at this point I dont think there is reconciliation to be done. But I still dont want to delete him from my friends list.
Sadly "bros before hoes" never ends up being real, guys will do anything to get a GF/wife and will throw their bros under a bus or abandon them if they have to.
I did a similar thing to an anon. >I saw his posts in an archived thread >added him >we talked for a few days >I quit videogames for a while >every time I want to login into steam I dread having to talk to people there and postpone it >login 1 year later, remove everyone >playing vidya is fun again
The closest thing I'd consider to an online friend is a dude I met in high school from another dude who lived in a different country and we barely talk because he's busy with writing and church, everyone else ended up being 2 faced
What if I've been talking to the same handful of friends for over a decade now and know their real names, birthdays, the names of their siblings, and where they live, though I've never visited them?
Why would you visit them? You're only friends through the context of video games. In person, you're just two people waiting for the other to leave so you can go back to playing video games and browsing the internet.
I was like that too but as soon as I'd gotten a good job they all started hating me and when i had some health issues they took advantage of that and ghosted or unfriended me. Interestingly enough we didn't actually have a group. They were all separate friends from different countries. Goes to show how shitty and petty people are
I always hear stories about people meeting their best friends or wife or some shit from an online game and it's just so alien to me because while I'm decent at making friends IRL, I've NEVER made a lasting friendship from online interactions.
Mid-2000s online gaming where you could voice chat in online matches without risking getting banned permanently and Discord not existing at all was the best era. Now, it's all gone to shit.
If it's not a public server, you have to know someone who's in the server and willing to invite you into it. The former usually is for a large thing ala video game or internet personality, while the latter ends up being a bunch of creeps who want to prey on the weak or mentally ill shitheads who would be willing to drag you through the mud under an excuse similar to "it's just banter bro" assuming it's not just a glorified chat room that people will eventually abandon
thanks for reminding me why server hopping and similar probably fricking sucks which is why I haven't dared to, but I'll remain optimistic about being invited to something actually cool someday, somehow
>tfw you've been voice chatting with the same autists you met on Garry's Mod for almost 9 years now >tfw one of those gays is probably browsing Ganker right now
I went out with drinks with people from work and it was a pretty fun time. I felt awkward at first but loosened up more as the night went on. I also showed up super stoned which didn't help things but oh well.
>online friend group has been kinda lackluster recently despite the majority of friends having plenty of time to play vidya >no IRL friends >most recent fully positive interaction i've had with another individual online was a random chinaman adding me in a game, not saying a word, and us carrying each-other through a few matches of a free-to-play skinnerbox game
>get sent a request >social autism kicks in and remove them a week later and also because too much of an autist about sites like steamid keeping track of friends >want to add them back again
>"brb suicide" >"yeah lmao surely this time it will work" >it actually didn't, but he was so done he went back and retried it the absolute madman >5 years ago now >have grown to appreciate the weird motherfricker more than I ever did when he was alive
Oh well. Maybe someday that will be me.
He stopped going online despite having his phone in his hand every damn day. He doesnt remember or care for you. You cling to a memory of a man that is no more.
Spent most of my life hearing that people online can't be your real friend. It's actually real now because most people online actually are there to exploit you for moronic communist bullshit and not play videogames. Like it's gotta fricking suck to be floating around online and you have to constantly praise cult bullshit or all your "friends" will doxx you and threaten you. I remember when it used to just be that some emotionally stunted 26 year old running the forum threatened to ban people and everyone knew full well there was plenty of competition and there was a massive disincentive to actually act like a fricking moron like that.
>make steam friend >play killing floor over skype >8 years later meet him in Akihabara >we go to see the station that was the subway station in Artificial Academy 2
It's just that simple
Exhausting friends are just mediocre at best friends. You need high social stamina to deal with more than 1-2 of those and not hate every second of it.
True high quality friends are pretty good though. But hard to find.
True, except these trash people will give you this same rant. "Omg i got other shit to do, that's why i sit in 5 discords, spam memes between #meme channels, micromanage my online status, and make sure nobody thinks Im not living a busy life despite being a neet"
>Exhausting friends are just mediocre at best friends. >True high quality friends are pretty good though.
You quite simply do not understand, normalman.
>People sitting in 19 discord serves >Nobody knows or care that theyre there >Set to invisible on Discord and Steam cause "my privacy" >Breakdown every time he has to reply to an IM
Discord culture killed gaming.
Same, except I made the mistake to cut them off from my life to focus on my career (thinking I can always make others) only to realize that once you hit 30 it's impossible to make new friends anymore.
>add someone >talk a lot >but they stop sharing your interests so there is nothing to talk about anymore >they still try to keep the conversation alive
Sad to watch
Most my steam friendships and online friendships have been short lived, usually with people for a few months, longest was for 5 years. People keep changing their interests with time and once we no longer have anything in common we stop talking. Also internet people can be seriously mentally ill and I've had to cut people off once they have became too much. I haven't had any irl friends in a long time so internet friends make me at least feel like I have somewhat of a social life.
I went to one my steam friend’s wedding a few months ago.
They can be your actual friends if you’re not a sperg. I realize how much that’s asking around here.
I have/had many good and fulfilling friendships irl and during some lonely periods in my life I tried making online friends. What I found and what I've witnessed from my IRL friends that have online friends is that the kind of people who are drawn to internet friendships are usually very broken people with serious mental illness or anti social personalities. They're drawn to these weird pseudo relationships because they're "safe" or they feel they have more control over the environment. Usually the mask starts to slip and I begin to see how unhinged/two faced these people are.
Who is 'he'?
you are all my friends 🙂
You don't even know our names anon.
Sure I do. It's Anonymous.
HOW THE FRICK DID YOU KNOW
Put me in your will buddy. Leave me your steam account. Thank you friend.
no
Maybe
I wont give you money but I will tell you a joke for free.
That's my kind of friendship

Why do chinks hate steam when they are such bug customers? Or do they only play f2p shit with mtx?
tencent shills antishilling steam because EGS has been a failure in every measurable way.
chinks love steam
what some homosexual on Ganker says chinks hate, love, or support is not actually what chinks hate, love, or support
WAIT, Do you mean that Ganker ISN'T a place for understanding culture?
It's a place for friends, who may or may not be engaged with their native culture.
"You hurt the feelings of the chinese people"
Beurou has to make sure the chinese collective don't stand for any lip because their operational rulebook was written by morons so they're telling their 5 cent warriors to get busy because steam didn't go and die for the honor of china.
I've seen plenty of chinese flags on Ganker in the past three months.
Keyed chinese know who the real enemy is

that's a fricking classic. the thing about these people is that they do leave clues about their eventual trooning, you just had to pay attention.

This makes me want to play phasmogoria again. I loved fricking with them in voice chat and staying outside the van so the mission could not continue.

But not you, of course, lol
Case in point, this homosexual feels called out.
Anyone who started using Ganker after 2010 is an instant write-off.
You brought it up because that is your whole personality. You don't have anything else to say but to complain that others don't think like you.
They’re my friends, but that doesn’t mean I have to talk to them. Too busy playing singleplayer JRPGs and H games
Loneliness is a b***h.
>play games that require social interaction
you cannot be serious
E-friends aren't real friends.
so are IRL friends. I will never get friends again, they just hurt me at the end
No you're just dumb and pick the wrong people
I've met them irl though
I miss when you could play games with Ganker and make friends without them being insane

Yes. I initially thought it was an autistic gay man that shared the same kind of taste in music as me.
where you so lonely you where willing to entertain an autistic gay man? good for you that it turned out differently though lol
It wasn't the plan, just thought it was a chill dude I could exchange some cool shit with.

>have grown to appreciate the weird motherfricker more than I ever did when he was alive
Get better friends
It's not a problem for me, I made my internet friends a decade ago.
It's a problem for people on the internet now.
If folks run into such crowds today, they should find better friends.
You need to move on, cherish whatever good memories you have left of them and leave it in the past.
It's already been stated, but I'm still actually close with my online friends, since they were made before the modern internet.
>make steam friend
>play killing floor over skype
>8 years later meet him in Akihabara
>we go to see the station that was the subway station in Artificial Academy 2
It's just that simple
Having any kind of friend is exhausting
Exhausting friends are just mediocre at best friends. You need high social stamina to deal with more than 1-2 of those and not hate every second of it.
True high quality friends are pretty good though. But hard to find.
True, except these trash people will give you this same rant. "Omg i got other shit to do, that's why i sit in 5 discords, spam memes between #meme channels, micromanage my online status, and make sure nobody thinks Im not living a busy life despite being a neet"
>Exhausting friends are just mediocre at best friends.
>True high quality friends are pretty good though.
You quite simply do not understand, normalman.
true but good friends are really really hard to find.
>People sitting in 19 discord serves
>Nobody knows or care that theyre there
>Set to invisible on Discord and Steam cause "my privacy"
>Breakdown every time he has to reply to an IM
Discord culture killed gaming.
ive realised as of late that i took my friendships of 20+ years for granted and not everyone has such people to talk to and rely on
"Bro lol it's so easy to make friends just get a hobby and hang out"
"ah, so which discords are you in?"
"well my girlfriend introduced-"
"and this one is my old real life friend group"
Same, except I made the mistake to cut them off from my life to focus on my career (thinking I can always make others) only to realize that once you hit 30 it's impossible to make new friends anymore.
Taiwan is a country.
>add someone
>talk a lot
>but they stop sharing your interests so there is nothing to talk about anymore
>they still try to keep the conversation alive
Sad to watch
Sounds like a you problem
I hate friends, and I hate you.
You are not an interesting person
I know, which is why I won't try to connect with people again
Good, you shouldn’t bother anyone with your presence again, kappa
>talks to me every day
>disrespectful as frick for no apparent reason
>probably was stunned to get blocked
I've been on invisible for 4 years
Then how come I can still kill you? Huh?
All my steam friends were IRL friends first
i want to sex my steam friend (male)
My only steam friends are my real life friends .
Everyone else can suck my dick
Most my steam friendships and online friendships have been short lived, usually with people for a few months, longest was for 5 years. People keep changing their interests with time and once we no longer have anything in common we stop talking. Also internet people can be seriously mentally ill and I've had to cut people off once they have became too much. I haven't had any irl friends in a long time so internet friends make me at least feel like I have somewhat of a social life.
I went to one my steam friend’s wedding a few months ago.
They can be your actual friends if you’re not a sperg. I realize how much that’s asking around here.
>steam friend got unironic genuine schizophrenia
stop ignoring my messages homosexual
i will find your house and rape your butthole in a non gay way
I have/had many good and fulfilling friendships irl and during some lonely periods in my life I tried making online friends.
I'm really mentally fricked so I do agree. Not in the two-faced part since I'm the one getting ignored always
Most of my Steam friends are irls.
My irl friends are my steam friends
Cope and seethe friendcel
My lewd friend has been ignoring me for like a week and it's really annoying me
Why won't they talk to me...
Post nut clarity.
I have 0 steam friends
nobody ever adds me
I'll add you
>Achievement requires Steam friends
>that one Steam friend that didn't ever log on again
>he died in real life
Online friends are the purest friends, prove me wrong.
