i have a 4070 and its really nice, one single 8-pin, and it runs VERY cold compared to the other cards. My chassis fans are cheap, my rear fan is backwards, and i have never had this thing go over 70c.

I am fine with my 1060 until the 5xxx series come out then I'll buy a 4060 when the prices drop as usual. And only to play games made before 2010, and AI shit.
It's just strong enough to get decent performance out of newer games. Strong enough for me, at least. I was able to get 1440p with mostly high settings out of all the new, big-budget games I was looking forward to this year (Street Fighter 6, Armored Core VI and Baldur's Gate 3) and am pretty content with the possibility of having to drop to 1080p for newer games later. Starfield ran appallingly poorly on my PC, but I didn't like it much anyways.
Was there significant demand for the 4080 in the first place? If you have enough cash to throw $1200 at a GPU then you almost certainly have $1600, and if you're the type of person to spend over $1000 on a single component you probably won't be satisfied with anything but the absolute top of the line anyway. It looks like a pointless product to me but then again so does the rest of the 40 series.
