Hey, I'm just enjoying the gradual progression and anime girls. I'm aware the game is banking on player retention and overall longevity with it's system. But if I get to run around on the newly updated areas without spending, that's good enough for me.
It's definitely missing the quality fun from non-gacha games for sure though

I'm surprised you were able to enjoy genshins progression system. After the first couple of days where the overworld poses a semblance of a threat. It quickly just becomes diablo tier loot grinding, without the payoff of getting that unique rares that change your playstyle. Worse with artifact gearing being a time gated logarithmic curve with the most effort being place in the first few weeks while months/years later time is spent mainly on marginal substat upgrades in the exact same domain.

Funny, the actual gameplay and exploration is why I started playing it for a month on launch, but the gacha systems + battlepass shit is what made me drop it entirely.

I hate gacha shit and "live services" (which is sometimes code for gacha with extra steps). Everything designed to siphon as much money from its customers while providing as little entertainment for that transaction as possible is not worth it to me. A decade ago Blizzard was ridiculed for $25 mounts but now that's the average cost of a cosmetic set in other games.
Gacha (done right) is the best monetization model. Those with money spend, and fund the content for everyone else who can't. If they release something unappealing to the audience people skip and they don't get money. It's the most pro consumer business model. People are just afraid to admit it because so many shitty gachas have justifiably given it a bad rep.
The only time I've seen gacha done well was fricking Second Life of all things. You could buy random shit that could be traded with others, or pay a fixed price to get non-tradable copies of everything. SL has since banned gacha and the above rule was not universal, just very common.
What the frick are you talking about, the only good monetization in f2p games are that in csgo, dota and a few other games where money doesn't give you any gameplay advantage. I never played gacha, but as far as I know it's mostly about buying characters and it's obviously gives you an advantage.
