Well after Itagaki left DOA and DOA Extreme have become bunch of gacha, mtx and 1000+ dollar dlc games. Unlike when he was in charge back when you unlocked everything by playing the game.
That doesn't make it a game worth playing. It was casualized VF. It makes Tekken look like Dorf fort
And casual gamers are what keep games alive unlike most of fighting games. We saw what happened to DOA once it tried to pander to the FGC. There is a reason why VF is dead nowadays.
Fighting games are in a place where nobody plays them but they move shit-tons of copies because people like the idea of playing them but drops after getting bodied ten matches in a row. It doesn't matter how easy or hard a game is, a strict 1v1 game isn't going to be that popular, because there's no teammate, team composition, or scapegoat to blame losses on. DOA6 was literally DOA. It was a game nobody wanted to play, with only breasts going for it, and they got rid of that too

This is why DoA and NG didn't end up being as influential and profitable as they should have been. Sakaguchi made the same mistake and he dearly paid for it. Like who the frick makes an AAA budget Jrpg exclusive to Xbox? Of-course it was going to flop... Konami too tried making Tales of series exclusive to Xbox and it almost killed the franchise.
