Do you think I'm some kind of normalgay? I've beaten the game at least 5 times.
The duality of man.
>he hasn't beaten Final Fantasy VII seven times
>he hasn't beaten every Final Fantasy (number in the title) times
NGMI
I dont want to have to beat ffxv 15 times
>FFXIII 13 times
This is the scariest thing I've head this halloween
I did and it was shit. Only normalgays like it since they haven't play other RPGs.
It's not very fun. I've owned it since it was new and I just didn't like it.
Played the frick out of Crash Bandicoot and Oddworld instead.
Boring after leaving the town wasn't even that great before it too
I first played it about a year after it released and my cousin spoiled Aerith's death when I had just left Midgar. I pretty much lost interest after that.
Frick you Dylan.
>my cousin spoiled Aerith's death
It's on the back of the box. It's not that big of a spoiler.
tbf just like with trailers people tend not to remember stuff from back of the box and so it was a surprise for most people. that pic doesn't necessarily look like she's dead, at least a lot of ppl wouldn't put that together. but still it's not nice to spoil stuff. i was lucky to get the natural experience of the twist but it was only one moment out of many memorable scenes in 7. the end of cosmo canyon section with nanaki was great too.
It looked like a dead woman on the back of the box to me when I was 9. And when I found out who she was, it was obvious what would happen.
It's funny that people think that her death is the big spoiler of the game, when it really, really isn't.
sure but saying that cloud is a fraud and sephiroth was dead the whole time doesn't have the same shock value as spoiling that an important party member dies
>sephiroth was dead the whole time
Sephiroth isn't dead
I thought he was basically a ghooooost and was just acting through assembled parts of the Jenova cells until he made hisnnew body out of his "clones"
Mostly true, but his original body (the severed torso) forms the base of the new body, even in Seifer Sephiroth he has his original body glued on top of the freaky Jenova wing body.
I really thought that and didn‘t play it for a while. Played remake enjoyed it heavily and decided to play the game. Thank god I did it. It was really fun and there were a lot of other twists lol.
>Frick you Dylan
Matthew? Is that you?
I'm a zoomer and playing through numeric order
I dropped it after the first level because it seemed boring
>movie game
sorry anon, I was playing real video games in the 90s
>He got filtered by FFVIII ( the real masterpiece of the series )
explain yourselves
I don't find ff7's gameplay and story to be interesting.
I did beat it twice, the first time I was moronic and in middle school and just did the necessary bullshit for Camelot but more recently I actually understood how the game worked beyond just spamming summons
Besides 2 its the game in the franchise I've played the least and it leaves a worse impression on me every time I realize disc 2 is like 3 hours long
i didn't have a playstation growing up and i always get bored after midgar
Dropped it as soon Aerith died like 20 years ago and never picked it up again, it is very mediocre by nowadays standards.
>Autism.
Bub, I've never played FFVII.
Actually, I've never played any Final Fantasy game in my life. Legend of Dragoon is close enough though
Based LOD player. Dart/Meru/Haschel is the best party.
NTA but I have never used Meru or Haschel. I usually keep Albert out of respect for my bro Lavitz and then go Kongol or Rose. One time I even went went Shana because I was doing it as a challenge run.
The ironic thing about Shana/Miranda is that they're actually one of the strongest characters in the game but no one uses them because they don't have additions which are the main draw. You're supposed to have them chuck all of those random item magic items that enemies drop.
Everybody's saying this but in my several playthroughs of the game I always always ended up with Dart, Albert, and either Rose or Kongol. Somehow Meru and Heschel always went past my radar.
same
These are actually from my ps1 memory card. I hacked my PS2 and used FMCB to copy the files to a USB stick and then converted them to be used by emulators. I highly recommend others do this to get their old saves backed up as well.
kongols growths are bad they don't scale beyond disc 2 iirc.
Meru is high tier and I would fr no cap.
am I doing zoomer speak right?
Ah, those PS1 days when I had modcips...
These days, I buy games. 🙁
Dart, Albert, and Rose for me.
>Die! More and more!
I had enough of this baby game when a random trash encounter gave me 4 X-potions.
I’ve only played 1, 4 and 6. That’s all I need.
I always fall asleep after leaving Midgar. The overworld and the "hunt for Sephiroth" are so fricking boring. Gameplay being ass certainly doesn't help.
I was about 1 hour past costa del sol and my game started crashing every 5 minutes. Not my fault the pc version sucks.
>Alice: "Help, Claude! I'm dying"
>Claude: "I'm just so depressed"
Greatest vidya of all time everybody
boring game
jesus christ this board is absolutely infested with zoomers isn't it
Yeah, the board has reached a new historical low over the past few months.
I'm 30 years old and I think FF7 (and the whole FF franchise) is shit. Also I played DQ7, Wild Arms and Legend of Dragon on my PS1, better games than this crap.
>I'm 30 years old
zoomzoom
I still don't understand why Aerith died. It didn't advance the plot or characters. It just kinda happens and people are sad about it and then they get over it and then the plot continues like nothing happened.
It's almost as inconsequential as Cait Sith's sacrifice, but that manages to be tongue-in-cheek.
How moronic are you? She's the last living member of the Cetra, when she died she entered the Lifestream and was able to essentially use the planet itself to defend against Meteor. You fricking ADD zoomers man, goddamn.
>was able to essentially use the planet itself to defend against Meteor.
This was ambiguous until Advent Children
Then why was she casting Holy?
If you're talking about immediately before she died, she wasn't. She was just communing with the spirits of her ancients (praying).
There was literally no reason for her to be casting Holy at the time she died. The meteor wasn't a thing yet, and wasn't even mentioned yet as far as I remember.
She just knew, via her connection with the planet and being a Cetra, that she was doomed to die and in death she would be the catalyst to save the planet.
You havin' a laugh? They knew about Sephiroth's master plan and she specifically left the party to pray for Holy explicitly to prevent Meteor, which had not yet been cast but was known to everybody. Her death occurs AFTER Cloud gives Sephiroth the Black Materia, so Meteor was imminent.
I get that the plot is convoluted so I'm not knockin' you for forgetting shit, but those are the order of events. The writing is nonsense is all I'm sayin'. Her death was pointless shock value that contributed nothing to the plot or character development, even though it had potential to.
Not him but I thought the Cetra's whole gimmick was to be able to commune with the lifestream while alive, so to speak. Are you saying they play a bigger role after death? Shouldn't Sephiroth have known this and not killed her? He absorbed like the entire library of the lifestream's knowledge.
Shock value. Her commanding the Lifestream was added after the writers realized that they wanted to give her death more value. Cait Sith's 'death' which happened before Aerith were meant to threw you off track and gave you false hope that somehow Aerith will be back.
Source trust me bro read it on some random vidya magazine's interview back in the day.
>Her commanding the Lifestream was added after the writers realized that they wanted to give her death more value
no, it was always intended for her to continue to have a role in the story beyond death. sakaguchi decided this after his mother died, he wanted life to be a theme in the game
>Cait Sith's 'death
Such a terrible fricking scene (and character), holy shit.
Somehow I keep forgetting it exists.
she sacrifices herself to trigger HOLY because her Materia "does not do anything" and only triggers via sacrifice. she knew. which is why OG seph will avoid this outcome in remake
>people are sad about it and then they get over it
citation needed, cloud literally ends up in a wheelchair I already posted that. not to mention he says he is ending the adventure immediately after insert disc 2
and outside of the game people are still taking emotional damage from this scene to this day.
>she sacrifices herself to trigger HOLY because her Materia "does not do anything" and only triggers via sacrifice
Is this specified in the game? I thought she managed to awaken Holy just before Sephy killed her
holy doesn't activate until endgame, you see it in cutscenes.
she hints at how she has to do this whole thing when she leaves solo into the ancient forest.
SHE KNOWS she is going to die.
Oh excuse me. Right. Holy activated in the end. Aerith also used Lifestream to save the planet with the holy.
Btw did Cloud and friends go there with the hope that Holy would awaken once Seph is stopped?
> Although Cloud assumes Aerith was killed before she could summon Holy, it is revealed in a vision that she succeeded moments before Sephiroth killed her. However, Sephiroth is holding back Holy's power, preventing it from moving.
You are wrong. Aerith did activate it before death, Seph suppressed it’s power
how do you know that seph was suppressing it
I was always under impression that Holy was never enough to hold the meteor to begin with.
That said, is it ever explained ingame where the meteor is coming from? Just a random bighueg rock floating in space that Seph somehow can control using magic?
It seems to just be calling down / attracting a big rock from space, yes.
It's not like the other meteor / comet spells in the series which materialize them out of thin air and magical power, after all. The meteor had an ETA and everything.
I beat it. Good game but X was better.
Don’t @ me
I got to the part where you fight the water monster at the beach town but got bored and dropped it.
I tried getting into the game a few different times but never got past the first couple of hours, and that was the furthest I ever got by far but I still just didn't really like it.
I did though, twice, and remake part 1, twice (helped a friend)
I even beat emerald weapon
Very boring game, probably the worst "classic" FF
I like the idea that humanity didn’t actually die in the ending. Because making such a drama about Aerith’s death only for everyone else to die a week later is stupid
Once you leave midgar the game is garbage.
Never played it.
I laready know what happens, the b***h dies and you kill the one winged moron. I will not be suffering through a jrpg with shit graphics for that.
do I need to use the retranslation patch
No, your first run should be vanilla. The fan translation fixes some things, but also fricks up others.
Play in japanese for your first playthrough then play the 2nd edition (international) on your second play through. Don't play the English versions
spirit bug fix is the only "required" patch.
no, ps1 version is best script. it has a few spelling errors but the errors in the pc script are worse. and fan translations are nonsense fan fic written by trannies
I haven't played a single final fantasy game.
The furthest I remember getting was some part of Shinra tower where I was going up and down between different floors and one of them had a gym area or something
I couldn't figure out what to do and lost interest
How the frick can someone say remake is better?
Anyone have the gif of wheelchair cloud with the ghosts?
its not even finished yet
and part 2 is going to kill the company if they release on just PS5 like 16. no one has a ps5.
Yeah and Part 1 was way better in OG.
I don't play jrpg slop
Dropped it after getting to disc 3. I might have liked it if I played it 15 years ago but by then I was already sick of jrpg genre. I even emulated and used speed up but the gameplay was so fricking boring that I couldn't stand it anymore. No idea how I spent my childhood playing so many of the 4 dudes in a row games.
I started emulating it one but then I kinda just stopped playing. Don't know how far I was, not very far after leaving the city I think
I've noticed plenty of younger people dropping it after the linear introduction ends and gives the world map to explore.
Thus, I recommend FF13, as the linear introduction lasts for most of the game.
The best thing about FF7 was the whole gaslighting of the nibelhiem incident. I don't think another game covered a plot point like that before or even after where the cast is completely fuddled on what truly happened. Hojo and Sephiroth fricking with Cloud was the craziest shit I've ever seen in a jrpg and nobody ever mentions it.
>and nobody ever mentions it.
Its the only fricking thing ff7 gays ever talk about in regards to the story outside of Aertih since the rest is really dull
Barret not actually believing in the cause and just using avalanche as a way to get revenge was also a pretty neat plot point. Based Barret
True, Barret and Cloud are the only two really well written characters in there.
Sephie can be fun if he's fricking with Cloud but he's really dull outside of that and Hojo can be entertaining just because he's such an insanely, overtly evil scientist for a rated teen game.
Tifa too. I know she's a basic b***h but mix that in with being Cloud caretaker is sweet as frick. I love how she knew what was going on but couldn't trust her own memories and couldn't say anything otherwise cloud would be a melty.
It's been a while since I played the game but the Sephiroth clone stuff was just hojo and Sephiroth fricking with Cloud. Although I think the OG Sephiroth "died" at the nibelhiem incident and some cluster frick with him and jenova made new Sephiroth.
Sephiroth Clones are not literal Clones but rather attempts to create a new Sephiroth (fusion or man and Jenova). But Sephiroth can literally assume direct control of them and use Jenova Cells to manifest as himself. Despite being called a failure by Hojo, Cloud is the only truly successful Sephiroth Clone, the only one that broke free of Sephiroth's influence. The Jenova Mimic powers are also how Cloud can take on Zack's persona so completely.
>Sephiroth Clones are not literal Clones but rather attempts to create a new Sephiroth (fusion or man and Jenova)
is that true i think it was hojo testing his reunion theory by injecting ppl with jenova cells and seeing if they habitually reunite. unless that was a second observational experiment performed on top of his original experiment of creating seph clones(or rather, other people with the power of sephiroth due to the bonjovi cells)
>but the Sephiroth clone stuff was just hojo and Sephiroth fricking with Cloud. Although I think the OG Sephiroth "died" at the nibelhiem incident and some cluster frick with him and jenova made new Sephiroth.
No Hojo injected a bunch if people with Sephiroth's cells and made them """"clones"""" (like the "these guy are sick" dude. This includes Cloud.Of course they're not really clones, just genetically altered people.
This allowed Sephiroth to control them to some extent. He then had them do the reunion event in the north pole and had them form his new body with their own. That was also where he had Cloud give him the black materia in his super schizo episode because he's a weak b***h and cant even frick up the planet out of his own power like a respectable FF villain should
FF7 is the coolest jrpg ever bar none.
Eh it really depends on what you're looking for in a game. I think that disregarding from personal preference, it's still one of the better FFs just due to sheer competency, but I honestly don't care about it much outside of that.
Yeah and you're gay.
How come JRPGs strayed away from the early 2000s core of science fiction, identity, paranoia and not trusting the government?
I did. Spent exactly 0 hours on the dogshit side content and just ran through the story and dkd the bonus scenes for vincent / yuffie and did that optional submarine thing. That also meant I spent very little time on the horrendous world map, which was nice.
7/10 overall, took a mild liking to it.
I am more of a FFVIII kind of guy.
I wish they delayed it for a year to hammer out the pieces. There's so much glue and band aid in the plot because you can tell they ran outta time and wanted to finish it as soon as possible.
Laguna being alive and just got sidetrack was the dumbest fricking idea I've ever seen.
It also makes him a huge butthole. When I got the justification to him staying in whateverthefrick it was called, I just thought that he was lying or something. Seemed entirely out of character for him.
Theres a lot of other shit in the plot, too - like the flashbacks not mattering to the plot at all outside of the stupid meta narrative parallels thing, the terrible fricking plottwist, crutial plot and world information being hidden in the tutorial sub menu glossary (why the frick even), etc.
Yeah I have a feeling in the development room they had the set pieces and plot structure made but didn't have time to fully fleshed it out so they fricking just Elmer glue'd a bunch of shit so it sticks but it just falls apart. Dunno why they wanted to rush it so bad. Ffviii is insanely ambitious and I wish I could've seen it at its full potential.
Real Sephiroth was on ice the whole time. Like Walt Disney.
Actually, no. Sephiroth is maybe dead, but he is something that scares Cloud even to this day. So alien life forms you see through the game - Jenova - takes a shape of Cloud's biggest fear - Sephiroth - and everyone else sees him.
>but moronanon, other people saw Sephy as well, not just Cloud and his crew
Yes, because Cloud brought him into life be feeding Jenova with his fears. Just like Freddy Krueger (from Nightmare on Elm Street) keeps coming back.
That's backwards. You keep seeing Sephiroth everywhere because the real Sephiroth (the one on ice), is sending his consciousness to his Clones/Jenova via the life stream, he's controlling them like a player avatars in a video game while he chillaxes in his man cave.
Look, I may be wrong, but this is why I think I'm right.
You see his clones through the game. They all speak to you. Once you emgage in a combat against a
>real
one, you beat him with 1 Omnislash and - nothing. No dialogue. Nothing. That's why I interpreted this as overcoming his obstacles and fears. Because not even that was real Sephiroth. Sephiroth is dead, and Cloud hs fighting his demons. What did he say at the end of Advent Children?
>I will not become a memory.
Why did he say that? Will he come back? Is he in lifestream? Is Sephiroth a part of the planet? Oh wait, he is. Everyone who ever lived is a part of the lifestream / planet.
Shit.
Also, best Sephy:
Brother you can interpret shit however you want but Word of God disagrees with you
1) Jenova is a shape shifter, it can freely alter its appearance (see Aerith's dada note on the cetra tales where they speak on that briefly). Jenovas cells simply took on Sephiroths physical appearance because he willed it to.
2) Sephiroth was always, 100% in complete control over Jenova.
That is what word of god says. Yes, I know, it makes his character way worse as well as having a huge negative impact on the story.
Sephiroth and Jenova are essentially the same character for all intents and purposes. Sephiroth is Jenova's personality and brain while Jenova is the body and method for all his schizo powers.
What I meant is that Sephiroths switch from
>cool soldier with some doubts about his origins but who is affable enough and looks out for his companions
to
>genocidal maniac
Doesn't really work as is, because him being in 100% control means that he wasn't influenced by the evil space virus monster to kill and propagate, but rather that he just went super insane the moment he saw some tiny proof that he wasn't totally human - which is especially egregious, because he was already doubting it to begin with.
He then continues to act so much like what you'd expect the evil space virus monster to act like, that people to this day think that she was in control or exerting influence.
I always fall back on Tifa noticing something is wrong about Sephiroth the moment she meets him, pre-crisis. The man is a psychopath playing at being normal.
It's incredibly dated and I'm not talking about the graphics. The combat is very slow. I tried 7th Heaven to mod it and it kept crashing so I got sick of it.
tifa is cute and she has big fat tiddies
YOU KNOW YOU WILL YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL YOU KNOW YOU WILL
Played the game for 10 hours and then stopped playing, the game just became dull and boring. Perhaps because i had IRL issues at that time.
what is even the appeal of FF games?
>what is even the appeal of FF games?
Setting, story and characters. Either it grabs you or it doesn't.
I guess i will give it another try, i remember the beginning being comfy as frick.
I did, I beat it by saving all of my megalixirs for the safer sephiroth fight and barely limped over the finish line lol
I used cheats in Grand Theft Auto, so I never beat any GTA game.
I did and I came to the conclusion that V is the best FF game.
Diamond Weapon put the fear of God in my 7 year old self. Nowadays I've just been too lazy to emulate the game
>see people on Ganker asking for the worst FF game
>nobody puts FF1
Is this disingenous? FF1 doesn't really have any flair and it's just basic af.
Yeah but it being pretty even keel means it has no overt weaknesses either. FF2 in comparison has a frick ton and things that were impressive once upon a time (like how cinematic it was or how much story there was for an NES game) aren't impressive to just about anyone anymore.
FF1 is just a nice and basic RPG, but that is also why it people can still enjoy it as it is.
exactly
care to explain how a solid rpg belongs anywhere close to a "worst" category when X to XVI exist? FFI can only get the worst title if it's pre X games only
Kys
hating x is one of the most basic tests for me to see if someone has dog shit taste. literally in the top 3 ff games
>pretending 2 a d 8 arent total dogshit
>pretending 3 isnt a strictly inferior 5 with terrible enemy scripting
>pretending 4 isnt super mediocre
>pretending 9 isn't boring as sin to actually play
Come on now.
12 is about equal with some of the more mediocre games in 1 to 10 and 16 is definitely one of the better ones.
>pretending 2 a d 8 arent total dogshit
>pretending 3 isnt a strictly inferior 5 with terrible enemy scripting
FF8 is my favorite, and are you implying that FF3 came after FF5?
never got into JRPGS, stories weren't even good, melodramatic anime nonsense
I don't like word of God meanings. Usually they have shit takes or interviews out of context. Like damn can you imagine going up to someone and being like "hey in your high school essay you said this, what did you mean by this?" and you know you're like "uh frick idk yeah so I think X?"
Im more of a Remake kinda guy these days, its just better. Rebirth also looks even better.
Im still waiting for new threat 2.1 mod so i can bother with the og again.
I miss Motorhead - Jailbait in remake. Why did they got rid of that song? New boss theme is bad.
But hey, remake gave us this amazing track:
They didnt. The airbuster theme is what you are looking for.
It plays better, it dwells more calmly in the midgar events and the characters are more developed and expressive in it.
How? I don't understand anons who can say this. It's like Ganker has some of human subspecies.
You suck.
I was near the endgame as a child, like near 100 hours in then my brother overwrote my savefile since we had an argument. I lost all motivation after that.
You likely was not even born yet when I did zoomie.
i tried to get the best chocobo but got tired and dropped it
the ending is obvious anyway, didn't lose much just watching it on youtube, ff7 is overrated as frick
i've beaten FF7 like a hundred times
>Final battle
>Get the Limit prompt to hit the final Omnislash
>Hold for a second to take the moment in before pressing the button
>Sephiroth throws a normal attack
>Kills himself to counter
That underwhelming feeling will live with me until I die
Hesitation is defeat.
>Kills himself
kino
You didn't beat it.
I lost interest a bit before fighting the demon wall. I don't know why. Maybe it was the combat. It required less thought than pokemon's.
>He never defeated Emerald Weapon
Pathetic
I haven't played a single final fantasy game and never will
The only final fantasies I've ever played were Crystal Chronicles and FF Tactics.
They were mid.
I was a tendie when I was a kid. In high school a friend gave me the PC version and I played it for like an hour. It was boring and I hate ATB.
For some reason, PC versions of VII and VIII (released by Ubisoft, I think?) had awful soundracks.
He gave me 8 too. Looking at it right now and it seems it was EA.
i didn't have the second disk.
I just can't seem to. Tried playing it a few times, always end up dropping it really early into the game, tried watching someone play it, still can't stay invested. Dunno.
