He's still upholding the laws of society: no murder, no muggings, no rape, no theft, no slavery, freedom of speech etc. basically, he still follows all of the "lawful" laws of the country
He's simply renouncing his citizenship because people around the world had begun to associate him with the U.S. He was seen more as a weapon of the U.S., rather than a hero for the entire world, so he renounces his citizenship to show that he's a hero for everyone.
By doing this, he's no longer limited by the foriegn policies of the U.S., should he want to go into another country and save people from say...a corrupt government.

D&D alignments have always and WILL always be moronic. A monk and an idealized police officer are both lawful even if they're for different reasons. It's not about following a specific society's laws, it's about believing in regiment and codified rules. A chaotic good character would stop a rape the same as a lawful good character, but a chaotic good character would kill the rapist if he felt it was justified while the lawful good character would see him dragged in chains and held in a court of law (in the police officer example) or kill him if his code dictated it (monk example).

He's Lawful because he has a strict code he follows to a T. He's sworn to fight criminals until he dies. He never harms the innocent. He's "Good" because his actions are altruistic, and he wants to rid the world of criminals, and evil aligned people.

Joker and Camilla are great villains though. CE people are evil as a force of nature; it can't be reasoned with and they have no remorse. NE's motive and reasoning is almost always themselves, that's not complex or nuanced. Look at Jaethal: she started murdering people because she was bored. That's it. He's still upholding the laws of society: no murder, no muggings, no rape, no theft, no slavery, freedom of speech etc. basically, he still follows all of the "lawful" laws of the country
He's simply renouncing his citizenship because people around the world had begun to associate him with the U.S. He was seen more as a weapon of the U.S., rather than a hero for the entire world, so he renounces his citizenship to show that he's a hero for everyone.
By doing this, he's no longer limited by the foriegn policies of the U.S., should he want to go into another country and save people from say...a corrupt government.

D&D alignments have always and WILL always be moronic. A monk and an idealized police officer are both lawful even if they're for different reasons. It's not about following a specific society's laws, it's about believing in regiment and codified rules. A chaotic good character would stop a rape the same as a lawful good character, but a chaotic good character would kill the rapist if he felt it was justified while the lawful good character would see him dragged in chains and held in a court of law (in the police officer example) or kill him if his code dictated it (monk example).
This. Punisher for example completely breaks the DnD alignment system. You could easily argue that he's: Lawful Good, Lawful Evil, Lawful Neutral, or Chaotic Good.

I think it's boring. Villains should have a clear reason and motive for their madness. Villains who are simply bad because they're insane like the Joker or Cam-cam are simply boring and incredibly generic to me. They lack nuance and complexity.
