It was called the PSX by shills the same way the GameCube was called “GCN” because of manufacturing codes. Nobody refers to either by those labels anymore unless you’re deliberately trying to announce you lick boots for a living.
>marketing mario wrote it on the back of a Black folktates game, THAT MEANS THAT KIDS CALLED IT PSX!!!
shouldn't you be worrying about finally getting a job?

shit was so expensive now, I wish I had a luigi.
Hey idiot. By 1995 it was already a decades-old precedent to label both removable media and the comparable player systems a 3 or 4 character abbreviation to distinguish it from any other possible media format. Yes If you have a disc for playing video you may call it a "movie" but it's either a VHD, DVD, VCD, VSD, or VCD and a customer who buys one, and can't play it gets pissed.
This wasn't going to be changed at the whims of a single company to make "the best abbreviation".
I'm American and literally no one around me called it PSX, its was always PlayStation. but N64 was "enn64" and SNES was just called Super Nintendo in casual convos
I was familiar with the term PSX but I just assumed it was a European thing because I only saw it online. The real distinction is probably spoken vs. written.
As a spoiled only child with every console in the late 90s. I can confirm no rich friend of mine or myself referred to it as the "PSX" I didn't even know PSX was a thing until probably the announcing of PS3.
As a spoiled only child with every console in the late 90s. I can confirm no rich friend of mine or myself referred to it as the "PSX" I didn't even know PSX was a thing until probably the announcing of PS3.
Games magazines called it PSX, normal people just called it PlayStation.
And yes, thinking back it might have been more of a written thing, when speaking it was usually PlayStation anyway. All I know is I never used PS either in speech or writing.
>Back in the hey-day of 16-bit era, Sony made a deal with Nintendo to do a CD-ROM drive for the Super NES. The CD-ROM would be available as an add on for the Super NES or as part of combined, hybrid unit available from Sony, which was to be called the PlayStation.
>When Nintendo scuttled the deal, Sony hunkered down and began working on a new version of the PlayStation -- code named PlayStation X.
>After a number of revisions, PlayStation X -- PSX for short -- became the PlayStation that we all know and love today. Although Sony only used the PSX moniker as an internal code name, it caught on, at least as a faster way of writing PlayStation. (As far as we're concerned, it's faster to say "PlayStation" than "PSX".)
>In LatAm we just called it "El Play" >If you say "LA Play" it means you're either a dirty spainard or have melt your shit brain with spainard youtubers, notable if you also call controllers "mandos", you frick >NOBODY called it "PSX", where does the X come from you idiot? I was some magazines call it that and it was just confusing.
Obviously people said "PS1" after PS2 came out. But when it was just PSX, people just said Playstation. Maybe some people said "PSX" outloud, but I don't recall it.
Which is the fricking point.
NOONE SAID IT, Not one person called it that.
People, like you, are even CONFIRMING you never heard anyone call it that.
The only people that did were magazines because it was shorter, easier to type and less black ink.
That doesn't make it correct though.
Wonder why the Nintendo Switch isn't called the NX anymore?
Everyone knows that when a console is pre-release it has a code name. Always have, always will.
And when the actual name gets announced ..you stop calling it by the codename.
Even the claims that people have on here >EVERYONE CALLED IT THAT
That's such a moronic Americanized mentality, even people people are literally saying that noone said it in America besides in text.
Why can't homosexuals just accept that it's straight up moronic and incorrect to continue calling it the PSX >It was the pre-release code name >Only the press continued to incorrectly call it that >Everyone else just called it the Playstation >The PSX is a PS2/DVR hybrid (none of this >Hurr durr noone knows about that, it's the official name for it) >PSX is also the official abbreviation for the Playstation Experience. i.e. Sony's Direct.
Just stop looking like a tard and call it the correct thing.
The difference is magazines and shit stopped calling it "NX" after it was out. It wasn't just a pre-release codename that went away, everybody used PSX. Magazines, websites, game boxes, it was all over the place. In text not speech, yes. But it's not equivalent to NX.
>People, like you, are even CONFIRMING you never heard anyone call it that. >The only people that did were magazines because it was shorter, easier to type and less black ink.
See
PS1sisters...
It wasn't just magazines, it was normal people online too. Any place where people wrote about the system. >Just stop looking like a tard and call it the correct thing.
We communicate with text on Ganker, so why should we stop using PSX in text here?
im very glad i was born in 1997 because having to grow up with the insufferable homosexuals that plague this board now in their thirties was probably not a fun childhood to have
Nah, your era has made this place insufferable with your obsession over eceleb shit. It was fun with our magazines, having to actually play games instead of looking up everything online, actually playing games instead of watching others play them. Modern world is miserable. nice b8 tho
Honestly. I'm 36 and it's so fun to trigger these younger than me gays by making OP like I did. There is a special type of autism in the 28 to 33 crowd
>no bro you don't understand I read on wikipedia that it was PSX
that was just some dumb bullshit journalists made up because every other console abbreviated to 3 letters
>he also thinks it was called WW1 back in 1917
>they call it Thirty Years' War
>it's still 1618
Excuse me, but it's called WWX.
I believe it's called "The Great War."
They called it "the World War", says my grandma (born in 1927).
people just called it Playstation
it was widely called psx
It was called the PSX by shills the same way the GameCube was called “GCN” because of manufacturing codes. Nobody refers to either by those labels anymore unless you’re deliberately trying to announce you lick boots for a living.
The official abbreviation for the GameCube was GCN I don't care what anyone in ur circle of two friends called it
Noone in america called it the psx and you know this because kids would definitely call it the "Pee sex" which we didnt.
that doesn't mean anything you dolt. people alive then called it the playstation you stupid zoomer
holy shit am i lucky these things didn't blow up in my face while blowing in them
>when you don't vaccinate your external storage
Keyword “people,” not the bugmen who manufactured the parts.
>marketing mario wrote it on the back of a Black folktates game, THAT MEANS THAT KIDS CALLED IT PSX!!!
shouldn't you be worrying about finally getting a job?
>those mario kart 64 toys
shit was so expensive now, I wish I had a luigi.
>patent pending
Yeah, it was called PSX in its prototype phase. This is easily discoverable info if you take 2 secs to search.
Lmao get rekt kid
I was a kid in 1998 in the states and we all called it a psx. you stupid homosexuals don't know shit.
Okay how do you say "psx"?
you pee sex having homosexuals?
Imagine getting unironically angry on the internet over how people referred to a video game console over a quarter of a century ago.
answer the question pee sex haver
pee, ess, ex
like the letters spelled out loud phonetically, you asinine ignoramus
good to know you talk like moron homosexual.
Just thick, or extremely Autistic?
We did. Now everyone calls it the PS1 but back before the PS2 released everyone called it the PSX.
>"Everyone"
Frick no
Americans aren't quite so moronic that they can't handle abbreviations
Adding an X to an acronym to mean “the rest of the word that I can’t be bothered to write out” is professional-with-a-humanities-degree behavior.
Kids in 1998 never said PSX, but EGM would use it in print.

I call it the piss sex
To this day, I'm not sure if this is American or Japanese revisionism but I litterally never heard of it refered as PSX until like 2006
I'm American and literally no one around me called it PSX, its was always PlayStation. but N64 was "enn64" and SNES was just called Super Nintendo in casual convos
Ya same over here, I always presumed PSX was a Genisis/Megadrive thing
I was familiar with the term PSX but I just assumed it was a European thing because I only saw it online. The real distinction is probably spoken vs. written.

Games magazines called it PSX, normal people just called it PlayStation.
Yurop here, I always called it the PSX because that's what all the game listings and magazines used.
And yes, thinking back it might have been more of a written thing, when speaking it was usually PlayStation anyway. All I know is I never used PS either in speech or writing.
I called it the no-games machine.
>psx
lol no it's not. PSX is for the pinky out types who want to make sure that people know they're boomers.
Everyone I knew referred to it as just playstation before PS2 was a thing. And PS for short
>aww you got a playstation
>aww you got a ps2
how i remember it, rest is just subjective bullshit
>He doesn't know we called the GameCube the GCN (Gee-See-En)
>G B C
um, that's the Dolphin you're playing on.
“PlayStation or N64?” was the hottest question of 1997. Imagine being born a Zoomer, what a fricking terrible fate.
I grew up playing the N64 and I was born in ‘97.
>he thinks that I as a kid called it pee esse ecks
>the year stopped being 19xx
How did the PSOne controller feel so fricking GOOD
What the frick was it made out of? It's like silk
was 14 at the time. No one called it anything because only one friend had it and it was just to play Twisted Metal
>Back in the hey-day of 16-bit era, Sony made a deal with Nintendo to do a CD-ROM drive for the Super NES. The CD-ROM would be available as an add on for the Super NES or as part of combined, hybrid unit available from Sony, which was to be called the PlayStation.

Everyone just called it PlayStation. This revisionist shit will never pass.

In 1997 I called it the goo goo ga ga. My brother was 4, so he probably called it "Pway Pwupple Dwagon?"
>Playsie
It was called Sony or "console with discs"
>mfw I owned NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, GameCube, PSX, PS2, PSP, PSVita and parents all called them 'Nintendo'.
Why would you have 2 PS2s?
I remember calling it "The Sony" a lot as a kid. I don't think I ever heard PSX until much later on.
PSX was mostly used in writing, I just remember people saying Playstation for the most part.
>reddit letter media

I know now they were pulling my leg, but damn
I did start calling it the fail stayshit in 2008
And when are you going to stop being a edgy sad waste of life trying to fit in on an anonymous imageboard on the internet?
2024?
2034?
Wait a second.....
HIS FRICKING NAIL ARE PAINTED????
You don't paint your nails? What are you some type of homosexual?

you guys really are all the same, you think you're better than them but you're just 2nd or 3rd place at the special olympics.
At least I'm aware I'm a moron posting on 4chins
it wasnt called psx, just the playstation
So I guess people didn't really call it "PS1" until they released the PSOne model
Which was in 2000
How young are you? That was released after the PS2 came out
It was released July 2000 after PS2 Japan launch (March 2000), but before PS2 NA/EU launch (Oct/Nov 2000)
Did I fricking stutter?
I'm just stating facts
True, but even so most people were aware a PS2 existed by that point
>get presented tons of evidence of something being true
>NOOOOO IT'S NOT TRUE BECAUSE I IMAGINED IT NOT BEING TRUE!!
why are leftoids like this
Worst thread on Ganker right now.
>no bro you don't understand I read on wikipedia that it was PSX
that was just some dumb bullshit journalists made up because every other console abbreviated to 3 letters
