You're meant to save scum PC games, otherwise they would not have built in saves and loads when ever you wish.

Wrong. The developers intended for you to experience the consequences of your own actions. This is not the kind of stealth game, where you get an instant game-over, when you are discovered. They gave you health potions to heal you. You can even search the level for food, if you are desperate. You have many tools to deal with guards discovering you. Flash bomb, flash mine, a moss arrow down the throat of a guard screaming for help among others.

Savescumming is always a bad habit.

        Anonymous

the game is incoherent without save scumming, lmao simple as.

I don't know why you saying "omg but developers intended you not to!" is a good argument when it just reveals that their ability to cohesively and tightly design something was shit. Flash bombs are a shit bandaid that doesn't address the fundemental problem at the end of the day, save scumming just reveals the shallowness of the inherent trial and nature in the fact that the solution is just about knowing, not doing, or solving.

Quicksaving is a relic of a time when devs didn't really think of player psychology, the truth is that they completely deform and destroy a game's sense of immersion and tension which is instrumental to Thief.

Cheat codes weren't front and center as a main mechanic. If they didn't want people quicksaving dont put quick saves as a shortcut key.

            >Cheat codes weren't front and center as a main mechanic
Neither is quick save/load, no where in any game tutorial does it teach you to quick save

              Anonymous

There is a literal shortcut for it.

      Anonymous

Quicksaves are provided for the consideration and convenience of players, and also as a concession that if you can save anytime by going to the menu, you might as well let the player do it by pushing a single key (it's just polite). None of that means you're supposed to savescum your way past challenges.

theme of thiefs 1 and 2 were order vs chaos (humanity versus human nature). in the first game you help restore order when chaos emerges. in the second game you prevent order from becoming too opressive with the help of chaos.

Thieftards will never understand this because they're unironically elitists but...The single opening bridge sequence in MGS3 is better stealth than like 90% of the Thief series and its not even a joke. People call stealth "boring" but no. It's just Thief that's boring. Simple.

Admittedly ever other MGS game is shit at stealth, but MGS3 nails it not just like no other MGS game, but NO OTHER stealth game PERIOD.

I legit have ZERO idea what magic went into MGS3 to make its stealth good, I have some ideas, but people are going to think I'm biased. No, I literally think all the metal gear solid games are shit and frequently shit on MGS1 for getting so much praise compared to something like Tomb Raider 1, despite the former barely being 3D, and the latter surpassing it 10 fold in what it does with 3D.

MGS3 is just THAT good to me because i didn't expect anything of it, after hating all the MGS games and finding them overrated.

And yes I played Chaos Theory too and thought it was shit, so no it doesn't have anything to do with getting "filtered" by "omg huge sprawling complex levels that are largely a waste of space because traversal is shallow and when you're not stealthing you're just picking up trinkets!" especially because Tomb Raider, Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, OuterWilds, all exploration games that far surpass Thief in difficulty of navigation and complexity are some of my favourite games.

Thief is just overrated shit that people latch on to to feel unique, because admittedly, on the surface level its kind of unique, but you'll quickly realize how shallow all its systems are. Wide as a...small pool, shallow as a puddle? I guess.

People forget that many late 90s to early 2000s games were designed to generally only be winnable via commercial guides and magazines. So by that logic you "didn't beat the game" unless you get one of those guides or magazines from that time.
