Sometimes I wonder how this game would be if Key didn't cooperate with the absolutely worst game designers that either have no idea what they are doing or design with ill intent. Another Eden exists so they probably know what they're doing. It's just lazy whale/endgame content to give people a reason to log in since so many were complaining that there was nothing to spend their life on. If you're not saving up for anyone in particular, take a break. The daily login rewards aren't worth much.

I think the reason they're being so stingy is precisely because the current content is so lacking. No idea why they keep adding more and more endgame content when that's not what the game needs more of at the moment, but maybe it's baiting enough people into logging in and spending money, and they sure seem to want to go all in on the whales at the moment.
Did they say anything about pvp in the last stream? In an ideal world I'd like for there to not be any pvp at all, at least nothing that gives practical rewards that further extend the gap between whales and the rest, but we strayed from that path a long time ago.

No I don't think they did. I mentioned pvp because its the easiest "content" they can make to keep people's interest while there's no worthwhile story to read. Also as long as the whales keep buying quartz and get more LB SSes the gap will always increase, that's just how these games work.
They're fair arguments for a presently lacking game. Rather have the b***hing than whale or waifu talk if I had to choose between them at gunpoint, but I don't have to because I can just continue to wait for the next update.
Why would anyone ask for pvp, it's always the most cancerous activity in these games, especially if there's any proper reward for doing it, so you actually have to face "the hyper whale ultimate awakened" in it or you're missing out.
10% drop for bracers beyond the first one for each level, right? It's very low considering you have to spend 2 life per fight, but at least you get 2 lifestones a day for the next couple of weeks so you'll have no shortage of life. I've actually stopped doing the orb boss after beating the level 3 one a few times because even though I can reliably do it and get the ability for everyone, I don't have enough characters to give the crit ability to and I'm fairly sure, say, the blue orb doesn't level up from doing the red orb boss.
If that happens, good. Let the company suffer the consequences of having no idea what to do with their postgame content. They have enough data and feedback from the latest survey to know to avoid that mistake though.
I'm not a fan of those, but at least they entertain people. What in the world do they need another hashtag emoji for? Are people even excited for the event at all?
I really dislike that they do this. Nerfing chapter 3 half a year after release is the wrong way to handle this situation, but it's not doing much anyways.
Flathand isn't that bad. You have a relatively doable first phase to charge up to 3 bars. Literally every tier 10 enemy existing is worse due to not having that luxury. Be it event SS tier, the first orb boss (thought this one is extra moronic with its at least 50% bonus damage ON TOP of that power level) and whatnot. And tier 10 is doable for a basic SS party. (minus orb boss or maybe special exceptions that just have too much damage build up over time, and you don't have Seira) Yes, you need to do full on def, but it is possible.
Flathand you don't even need that. You DO need SS though. This nerf is just making the SS situation less hard, but you STILL won't be able to use non event S. It changes FRICKING NOTHING.

Due to the moronic damage formula in the game, and how only SS have ultis (important for the second phase), it means if you can't beat it now (like, literally can't), you won't beat it then either. Because the reason you can't is because not enough SS and a lack of maxed out event units.
Typical Heaven Burns Red joke though. Wonder when they change something for the better. The damage formula is still the problem. Gear needs to give A LOT MORE stats compared to level and style bonus to make up for this.
No, the change is good. It doesn't do anything to fix the ongoing problems with the gameplay, but it highlights that they're on schedule to release the first part of chapter 4 this summer.
The problem with the boss before wasn't so much the stat value: 290 is rough when you have few means of making yourself stronger, but it's achievable. The problem is that, if you are in a position where you're lacking SSes and stats in general, you are going to have a hard time going beyond that value for both your damage stats and your tank stats at the same time, and with the AOE damage being insane, you'd either have to go all in on stacking the tank stats or strategically sacrifice members at specific moments in the fight while running a double healer setup and stalling until you have full overdrive, possibly both as was the case for me before the A/S level buff. Without crits, it can certainly be a tough ask, one that is made more tedious by the near-lone way of powering yourself up for that boss being running the arena for days until you've maxed your characters' stats.
I begrudgingly accepted it back then due to the lack of postgame content, but in an ideal scenario a game's story should never be locked behind a difficulty wall if it's its primary selling point like it is here, so any nerf is good and nerfing the incoming damage is the best choice given their unlikelihood of changing the damage formula.
Did they at least change it so that you can restart the fight without having to skip through a ton of dialog and cutscenes? I did feel like I beat a real challenge back then, but it could have been way less frustrating, too.
We're getting a thunder dungeon soon. I've only skimmed the news, so I may have missed it, but I found two files BgLightPass.png and BgPremiumPass.png that are just smaller versions of the default Ruka S and SS unit images.
How soon is soon? I can count on one hand how many times I went to the other elemental dungeons combined and I'm dying to use the 40 dungeon tickets I have on something that's useful to me.
Well, I think at least between now and the next update. I just saw a sprite for the thunder ring in the new assets, and one for the new item that lets you generalize ultimate skills.
The seraph website now also has an entry for the thunder dungeon boss. Pierce weak, thunder resist, nothing out of the ordinary. Good chance we'll get it on the 15th with the rest of the stuff if it's already in the game.

I'm grinding for a good version of the DP one because I can't think of anything better to spend my life on until the 15th when the thunder dungeon drops. The only earrings I have are the OD ones for Byakko and truth be told I haven't really noticed a significant OD increase so far.
NONE of the additional effects on tier 6 accs are worth your time.
Once you maxed the levels of all mattering styles (SS and event S), maxed the style upgrades, got any t6 acc for the offense slot and t5 for the rest with all 3 sub-slots filled ideally with any def +2 or +3 and emptied the event shop, you are simply done right now.
Everything else doesn't matter. The most they do is add 10% to something. And no matter what this something is, it essentially doesn't do anything. Getting like +4 to strength would probably do more than 10% damage increase with this game's fricked up damage formula.
The new accessory bosses they added are literally just there to give you something to throw life at if you did everything actually mattering. Orb bosses are essentially whale only content.

Don't forget to make your game backups again. For some reason the old ones won't work anymore. Maybe they're purging inactive reroll accounts from the first few weeks.
They're not erasing the data from your phones, but if you linked your game data to an ID and password to be able to recover or transfer it later, then you should do that again. It says that any link made before today will become unusable.
I really like her, but I don't have a need for another fire and slash unit. I'm saving up so I can get a 200 roll bonus on a banner someday, so we'll see if I pull her along the way.
So, I just saw the new ch3 being beaten, and my suspicions about the nerf are correct.
-If you have capable SS, you need to grind them a little less now. A week less of grinding basically.

So the nerf saved people able to beat ch3 1 week of grind, while people with actual issues will get more of an incentive to grind up event S that should perform a little better now, but otherwise are still left hanging. The fight is still ultra ass with them though.

It starts on the 24th at 4PM and ends on the 29th at 5AM. Very short amount of time, so ideally newcomers should get started right the hell now if they're planning on making use of that. Saving for the anniversary is probably an even better idea though.

Tier lists in this game varies for each player depending on their character's limit breaks. At the end of the day her ult does the same thing as Yukki, just with slightly higher numbers.

No. It has more than 1 hit. 1 hit ult on a breaker is a very sad joke, as you will never get spill damage. These relatively cheap AOE ults are made for dungeons and all the fricking damage in the world are ultra garbage with 1 hit.
Monaka has the same issue. 10 sp aoe skill that overkills everything, but can't be used against DP as you'd only break that and that's it.
This game needs a hit buffer. Would fix all those low hit units.

This tier list is a scam.
The tier lists assumes no LB. Any single LB will immediately make the unit more than twice as good. LB+2 is 5 times as good as no LB. Remember how broken crit damage is? That reduces the enemy stat by 50 for damage calculation. LB+2 is basically 50 to all stats, or rather even more than that. Aka your unit deals damage as if a no LB crits, and takes no damage anymore.

No tier list is ever going to be perfect, but this is good as a reroll guide and I would've appreciated having something like this when I picked the game up without any knowledge of what rerolling even is or how quick and easy it is to do. I found another guide on altema, and while I prefer it as it puts SS Tama and Seira above everyone else, I'm not particularly bothered by either of them. Once you've progressed through enough of the game your priority will rapidly shift from focusing on "pure" tier lists to saving for your favorites or complementing what you have (meta rate-ups or things like the return of the 1.5x banner), and there are other guides for the latter if you need them.

Welp, now I know why giving the crit ring to my LB2 Hisame makes her a murder machine.
The diamonds being the limiting factor when grinding the earrings is such a drag. The only +1000 DP one I have for DP damage is a measly +2 with the minimum possible wisdom.

You know this? The other 31A girls are getting their own animations but you have to have one of the passes to use them. They showed them off on the stream at some point.
For a Japanese gacha that's actually okay.
Once you get to the second month of paying, it's basically 2 ten pulls for 3k yen.
The only question is how efficient this is when they do special gacha offers paid only again. Having absolutely no paid quartz part of this is pretty shitty.

I assume it does matter because I did something similar just now, using a VPN to change my location, creating a new JP account, turning off the VPN, installing the game, turning it back on again and then adding a new payment method via Google Play (my European credit card), which immediately turned it into a western account even as I was still on the VPN. I know they've changed things recently, but I wonder if you did anything differently that might still work for me.

Live voice acting part is going to be kinda silly without both Ruka and Megumi VAs. You can pick the parts with Megumi just fine, but what the frick are they going to use without Ruka, she's everywhere.

Honestly, once I'm done with the mandatory event grind of my archive, I'm just done. There's literally no point to get those dark rings or whatever. 10% damage is nothing. It's never going to decide if you can do something or not.
Wouldn't care too much about it. Even more so if you already have rings, then it's not even 10% anymore.
The boost is nice to have if you have nothing else to spend your life on given how easy and autoable the dungeons are. Also a good way to stock up on that other item that lets you reroll item stats.

I stocked up on those in the fire dungeon to the point, I still swim in them.
I think if I run out of things to do, I'd rather try to get those accs that can have higher def on. Insanely unlikely, but if you'd ever get one, it has real impact. (until the next tier comes..)
On another note, score attack week 3 done. Exactly 30 turns. I got so damn unlucky later in the fight, as NOTHING ever crit. Even with the blaster pen hitting me hard (my only LB SS is Karen chan), and Miku just being a def down bot (her ult dealt 6 x 1 damage.. never saw that before), still doable.
Arguably the easiest, but also REALLY tanky to the point you REALLY need those crits. Recovers 13k DP too. Free with Seira though, as always.
Used 8 tickets, and got 2 S styles of SS I use, Tama and Hisame. That's +2 to level cap. Could've been a lot worse. Still believe SS do not exist anymore.
I pray for a meaningful way to spend credits. I'm only playing for like 2 months and my credits are so high I don't even know how much I have anymore. It just says 9.999.999+

Did Aoi have an SS in the beta? I know her jamais vu memory event has been in the game files for a while now. Beyond that, Carol is the only one that I know of.

Does the folder contain any other bit of beta content or other hints to future S-es or SSes now that we're close to exhausting them all? Aoi's memory event is the only bonus I know, but Kozue's event was in the game files long before she got her SS, probably also from the beta.

It would be great if Seira had a field heal skill or an auto-heal. Something that makes sense for a healer to have. Right now I'm only using her for her crit boost and very rarely to taunt. There's also this set of 6 girls that was in the data for the beta already. They're probably an older seraph unit.

My bad. I'm too used to thinking of her as Higumin. I'm not sure a nerf for Seira would go over well with players. Maybe reducing her crit buff to 2 turns or reducing the effectiveness of crits in general would be fine.

There's only one broken unit, and that is Seira.
Doping is okay, but nowhere near as good as a crit buff. Due to that it's even worse than a simple charge by Shiki, on average. It's also only for the front and doubles damage taken, further limiting its usefulness.
Unless I miss something, I'd consider Seika a relatively bad SS. Gamble ultis are never good, unless it REALLY pays off (aka Seira). And requiring no attack turns for your vanguard only buff, or active overdrive.. I dunno about that. I know how it is to handle S buffer, but at least they buff the entire party.
Speaking of gamble ultis. They really need to change Bungo. That gamble is so not worth it. 50% chance to do nothing? Frick that shit.
Tiers are always a matter of opinion, but I'd place Seira into her own tier. The burst she adds is something no other character can even remotely do. Full Heal is very mandatory though, so it's hard to compare. Technically you can play the game without Seira. It's just going to be relatively impossible to tackle some of the hardest challenges, as your damage is always going to suck. Playing the game without any source of full heal however? No idea how you'd tier this. I'd tier this "why the frick is there still no event S that gives this absolutely mandatory ability".
Seriously. Every good gacha there is gives you a really good healer for free. (or it's common/1star/whatever) Why are they sleeping so long on this. Instead they lower the ch3 difficulty, which won't mean jack if you still don't have a healer for whatever ungodly gacha luck reasons.
Dropped this game shortly after launch, checking back in. Did they ever implement that idea of making S units viable? Do you still need to be a paypig or a reroll luckgod to even clear story mode?
No. If you were really unlucky, you can only reset your account and try again. I've been complaining pretty relentlessly about their shitty management in this regard.
Mind you. You only have to have okay luck. But they seriously have no idea what they are doing. They nerfed ch3 by 500 power level, but that still means no normal S unit can stand against this, and you still need the things you needed before.
You can ignore a few upgrades, but that's a difference of maybe 1 week of grind at most. When you need to grind 2-3 weeks or so with a working party past rushing till the end of ch2, that's not really mattering.
It's pretty funny to see how they stumble around. Bit sad, because even the gameplay has a lot of potential, but I'm over that by now. The designers do not play their game, nor know math.
Yes, they buffed A and S styles to have an initial 85 and 90 level cap, going up to 105 and 110 respectively. They also finally nerfed the bosses. If there's a time to do it, it's now.

This is the one I found a few days ago. Yes, Seira and Tama are obscenely good, particularly if you also get S Tama so you have both the party heal and the rez.
Any team with SS Seira should be fine. I don't know how many gems they give you if you start the game now, but in the beginning it didn't take me all that long to roll 4SS units. Getting 4 with Seira being one of them though is going to take longer.
I've been expecting a disaster to befall 31A ever since I saw how Ruka talks about the old band. We know time frickery is happening and we have the chapter 3 reveal to work with as well. I'd be shocked if it happened this early, but I think it's a matter of time.
That time has come and gone though. As you said, that was for marketing. We're 4 chapters in though.
Actually, speaking of that, I didn't pay much attention to the stream but what happened to the whole plan of releasing the chapter in two halves? Losing Tama too is the real fakeout, isn't it?
My plan was to drop it for a year or two regardless after SS Aoi, but I'm gonna be damn sad if they go this far. She's comfortably one of my favorites. I'm mentally prepared for it, but this is just too early in the story for something like this.
To be fair Megumi is the least story relevant so her kicking the bucket first would make sense. All she has going for her is the psychic cult plot that doesn't really connect with the main story. In terms of story relevance/remaining intrigue left to be uncovered it'd probably go like
Megumi< Tama < Karen < Yuki < Tsukasa < Ruka
I think Megumi is 100% donezo here, but it'll probably be another while before they kill off the next 31A. Though there is the possibility that Megumi somehow retains her memories as a Narby and becomes the mascot mascot character communicating to everyone using telepathy
The flashback-looking CGs in the PV seem to indicate that we'll be touching on that? I'd be very shocked if they waited any period of time between 2 31A deaths though. My money all this time has been on either all of them surviving to the end or Megumi, Tama, Karen and Tsukasa all dying in very quick succession.
I'm mean yeah you're super dead once they start showing flashbacks of your past and go about resolving your character arc.
My guess is that Megumi becomes bummed out that all her hard work could have been a lie because of the memory thing. She was the only one to not get a single line till the end of the pv. Then to prove herself or whatever she goes out in a blaze of glory and reinvigorates everyone's resolve or something like that.
As for the whether or not they'll wait between 31A deaths, that ultimately depends on how long they're planning to have the story go on for. I really doubt they would though since that minimalizes the first one. I really think that Megumi is the Kamina in this case and it'll maybe take till the end before they touch another 31A. There's also the thing with every VA other than Megumi's and Ruka's having some other role tied to the game (streams and radio).

Shit, that's a really good guess. As for their plans, I think a lot hedges on what they want to do with 4.2 as we obviously know nothing about it yet.

They both are just busy as frick. Tomori is in every second anime on the planet Earth and Anchan is so busy with her theater stuff and some other shit, even love live can barely get her for their streams anymore.
Rolled a bit on the 1.5 SS since I"m lacking characters, got a double SS (tama and hisame) on the first roll, then 1-2 S and all A's on every other roll...seems about right for my luck so far with this game
I should have stopped after the first one, since the double SS was the first roll, but I thought I'd get lucky and people said they've had good rolls with 1.5 before...
So far I've only rolled twice, 18k for no SS on yuina, and 15k on this for 2 SS
I get the feeling this squad illustration is actually a spoiler/foreshadowing for the group as a whole. Tsukasa on it was already in her serious mode from day 1, which was a tease for ch. 3. Now when you think about it this way, Tama being really far away from everyone and Megumi looking at the other members with melancholy can give some ideas about them dying and/or separating.
I really doubt they'll kill both Megumi and Tama in the same chapter. Tama in the PV says that she can't think of a reason for her existence. I'm almost certain that Megumi's death would give her that reason

Guy who was thinking of rerolling earlier but dreading it, I found I have this reroll saved from way back in the day, would you just go with this if you were me and your other option was rerolling (and you're not a reroll enthusiast)? It has both top tier chars, but I've heard defender sucks and it's an old account so I won't get the start dash rolls. I just care about clearing the story content, don't need to be the most competitive in scoring events and whatnot.

The deleted comment is mine because I wasn't sure if you were the reroll guy or if I was confused and you were offering it to him. It's a tough call really. I'd recommend saving the account with the password feature and continuing to reroll, as unless they changed something about the feature recently you can always bring it back after deletion so long as you've saved it.
With the crit orb, Seira is a bit less mandatory (though now you can bring her skill to level 13 for, iirc, a whopping 94% maximum possible chance to crit that would make even xcom "99% chance to hit" enthusiasts blush), so if you're in it for the story then SS Tama complete with her existing S is the only one who's truly mandatory. Use one of the tier lists in the thread if need be, maybe aim for that combo plus at least two good SSes that don't have the same role (fire Ruka + SS Tsukasa would be quite good for instance), then compare them. Don't waste too much time because 4.1 is coming soon and they're starting up both the free daily rolls and the 10 logins -> free SS campaign again along with it.

I have already given up rolling on normal banners as a f2p player. Best way to survive playing this game is rolling on x1.5 rate up banners only and hope rng bless me with as many ss characters as possible.
I messed up and was 20 pulls short of sparking the first 1.5 banner on my emu alt. Still massively worth it, got LB2 Yuina plus plenty of other options out of it and now I just need to save up for an enhance banner of some sort. Definitely the best banner by a big margin if you need general options rather than anything specific.

Character with 1 hit normal attack. Blunt, meaning she's good in fights with blunt users who also have not hits. Absolutely required overdrive or else ulti sucks. Absolutely awesome combination. Couldn't have come up with a better joke.
Waiting for the day attack debuffs actually reduce the stat instead of damage %. Then she's a god.
I'm forced to use her in the thunder dungeon. It's frustrating, but she's LB1 and the only pure DPS I have apart from Sumomo so I know I'd be more annoyed if I didn't have her.
I still think that they are a defect Seraph legion that split after learning about the truth. I'm surprised that 31A is still sticking around the army after knowing everything, but I guess they don't have any better option. But maybe after falling into despair they'll run away and meet these people
My second guess is that they are super evolved Cancer. We've already seen Cancer mimicking things on earth like birds, wheels, etc. The recent enemies from the 31E event shows how detailed the wheel and bird have come since their more simple and geometric forms so maybe some could have evolved to the point of becoming humans? Who knows, maybe the center girl could even be that Mother Cancer they were talking about
I'd actually be disappointed if they went that super-evolved Cancer route. It would feel too much like Strike Witches and also pretty random after how strong and multi-layered big ones like Flat Hand are turning out to be. In some mission briefings Tezuka listed other seraph units outside of the ones we can play as. They could just be one we haven't seen before, or they're from an older generation.
A rogue unit that recruits 31A would be pretty fun though. Story-wise that would have the most potential. You would lose the already flimsy excuse of how you're able to call other teams' members to help you, but I guess you could just have a whole story chapter with that warning that your team is incongruent with the current story.

Something that doesn't let the plot literally explode in the first few minutes of s2, and exchanges it with generic aliens. Something that doesn't make a movie where nothing happens until the last 5 minutes, where they backpedal the s2 ending to announce an s3, that wasn't made until like 5 fricking years later.

We already have alts and they aren't limited, I don't see why the swimsuit ones would be. Especially considering we only get 1 alt a pop,so you will be essentially limiting 1 character alt while everyone else are fine.
Easy to write a story around it, if you really want to. That said, the damage formula would not support it. Literally everything would be oneshot central with only stats mattering.

Before adjusting stats, there's no speed in this game. You act first, then the enemy acts.
If they absolutely wanted pvp, it might be better if people could create their own "boss", out of a pool of abilities and things, maybe based on what A, S and SS styles you have.
Like any active skill and passive you know can be given the boss, though obviously a max amount, and balanced around it being used by the boss. For example, bosses can't crit, so all crit buff related stuff would just do nothing. The AI script could be automatically created, with ultis requiring a charging turn and all abilities having a certain CD, where they can't be used. Can't any skill be used it'd be a simple normal attack. Charging an ult shouldn't lower that CD either.
Stats should probably just be equalized, like for example every char has 200 all, and the enemy has that as well. HP/DP values can also be adjusted like that.
Of course that'd be a lot of work, but given the system we have, it's one of the few ways of doing so without completely reinventing how the game works. And whales would still benefit from a system like this, as they have access to much more passives from SS styles and in general more moves to mix and match.
But yeah, you already see that pvp isn't something you just add. Either it'd be very different from the rest of the game, or you build bosses. It'd be easier to add a rental system, where people can get a helper from another player. Quite a few games have this and it would fix so many issues HBR has.
Another Eden's collabs do not disappear. HBR's events do not disappear. I'd strongly assume if there's something, it'd stay. Might be a way to get later joining people easier through stuff, by having colab SS to grab.
I'd say impossible until a non key collab or earnings start going down the shitter. The game designer on stream said that he wants everything to be theoretically accessible to all players no matter when they start. That's why they gave you a way to re-play past events. This accessibility would logically extend to styles as well

Damn, I've been using Yanagin quite a bit to grind out earrings and bracers (mostly to get Maruyama buffed). Though I would probably use Aho Shojo Tama if I had her.
Yeah, obviously in terms of the meta she's superb, but my LB2 SS Tama covers the healing/grinding/SA niche already. Probably even gonna drop Tama for Aoi and go no-healer if I pull her and Ichigo though.
Looks like you can now use GGP to buy A styles. Only A, but it seems to only cost 10 per A style. Not sure if you can buy dupes or just the first one though.
Also looks like the values for the newish earrings have been drastically increased across the board so that they're almost always going to be a big upgrade. Makes all the grinding I did a bit of a waste, but I like the change.
Yeah, that's how I noticed since I have a fair few that are 800+ DP that I can easily use without any issues. Seems like the buff also applies to the bracers so I might spend some lifestones on getting a few yellow ones.

Meanwhile Artery Gear has a colab running. When there's still 1 week left they added not only another event (after all every 2 weeks have an event, the colab simply lasts.. 3), AND they added a main story chapter as well.

yeah google play changed it to be like Apple now. I even tried it with my jp play account. It looks like I'll either have to redownload the game on my JP account and/or have a Japanese bank account (the latter being just impossible). I'm tempted to try buying and redeeming a code from PlayAsia, but I'm scared that even that doesn't work and I'll have just wasted money.

I mean, you're gonna hear fewer such things now that chapter 4 is out and everyone is focusing on the story. I'm literally only on day 1 of the chapter but I've already seen things I'm really happy with, like Yuki finally getting a moment I really appreciated from her.
I love all of the characters and the music, but I can't defend the gameplay even if I wanted to.
This is how I feel as well. The gameplay is painfully anonymous and the gachashit aspects can go frick themselves, and I was certainly less happy with chapter 3 and 30G than most, but the feeling of being incredibly happy to have gotten another Key VN with Maeda being front and center is still there.
It's easier to complain than to praise, but I honestly really like this game. The characters grew on me very quickly and there's only 2 or 3 out of 60 that I don't like. The dialog is also great, especially the comedic bits if they're to your taste. Maeda doesn't waste any time making the main 6 likeable.
The gameplay is so-so. I don't have much experience with gacha, so I'm mostly fine with it, but I bet the number of options to spend your time on that you have now compared to a few months ago will feel overwhelming at first. I'm not gonna spoil the story, but I think it's also really strong. You can feel certain developments coming from a mile away, but predictability doesn't have to be a criticism if it's pulled off well.
The only issue with the gameplay is, how the damage formula makes only SS, probably soon enough LB SS useful. There's no way to upgrade other styles to be useful, which is (by now) almost standard in the gacha industry.
Couple with that, that there's not even an event unit with a full party heal 6 months after release, and it's just bad. Most good gacha make sure you get integral stuff as 1 star/ 2 stars or just simply for free.
In many other ways this game isn't bad. Like menus, ways to upgrade stuff. It's all actually working very well. Just one of the most fundamentally important things doesn't. This leads to weird shit like a dupe being more worthwhile than a new SS, and especially new SS versions of chars where you already have a LB version being NEVER worth it, unless you get a dupe there as well.
In my opinion there's only one fix without changing the formula. Make dupes do something else and the current LB something easily farmable. For example, dupes could add to min and max level of the skills. That still matters, especially when you get quite a few, but nowhere near as much as what we currently have.
Really nice there's finally a Tsukasa x Karen moment after so long, but it's so forced and in your face, Maeda really wasn't subtle with his writing on this one. It's like he realized he slept on it too much during the previous chapters, so he had to compensate.
It's so stupid. Like you said, it's like he realized "Oh god I was supposed to ship" and went 0-60 and completely changed everything with 1 scene. So dumb.
Really not a fan of all the shipping this chapter. Only thing that was good was MegumixTama of course, and that I wouldn't even count as a true ship in the game.

Way I see it is, this has to be a setup scene, right? Like their dynamic is so irrevocably changed for the worse and Maeda went SO out of his way to highlight that that I'm fairly sure we are in fact going to be taking a break from Megumi with 4.2 being a KareTsuka chapter. On the whole I'm not a big fan, but at the same time I'd already gotten bored of the 31A dynamic by the time I got to chapter 3, particularly the constant "oh yeah they're totally into one another" reactions to RukaYuki. MeguTama was one-note but at least it was always fun, while KareTsuka was great in how much it was left in the background and how much potential it suddenly gained after chapter 3.

I'm a simple man, If we're not getting an update on Megumi situation in 4.2, I'm dropping this kusoge.
My favorite 31As are Megumi and Awakened Tsukasa. Megumi has been sent off to the farm and Tsukasa has basically killed Awakened Tsukasa because Ruka called the dumb one "cute".
I knew that keeping Awakened Tsukasa around permanently would probably be too much of a narrative liability but I didn't expect it to be this bad.
I have some more tolerance on when we see Megumi again. I mean, Tezuka mentioned a supplement and I remember that the best Toji was introduced half a year into the game's lifespan.
Part of the reason why this was so frustrating is that Megumi barely said anything throughout the chapter outside of narrating her backstory and her outburst at the very end. I get that that's just how her character is, not someone who thinks out loud, but that doesn't make up for how little insight we got into her thoughts.
For me it's the other way around, as in I get that it doesn't make for a super engaging/interesting narrative from a reader's standpoint but I'm happy that Maeda stuck to his guns with her. There are other mistakes I feel he made in that regard anyway, like making the boss fight way too damn anime.
And speaking of supplements, maybe that's where that long-haired girl that featured in those early CGs with a 31A top and a 30G skirt who also happens to be on two of the phone buttons will come into play? I'm slightly hoping it won't happen, but 31A of all squads does need 6 members.

Well, I'm not saying it was the wrong choice. It's not like anyone else in 31A really understood her either. It depends on how her plotline will continue, because it would just be a huge waste if it doesn't.
My issue with this is that I really don't want to wait for 3 more years only for Maeda to say something like "why do you still ask me about Megumi, her story ended in 4.1" in one of his interviews. I understand they have to make it look like it's actually over regardless of their future plans or it won't have the same emotional impact, but it's still obnoxious as frick. I will play 4.2 and all the events leading to it normally, I will still check on the game until 5, if she isn't mentioned by the end of that chapter, then I'm truly out.

Give up and wait till it's nerfed. It's gonna happen eventually. They nerfed the unlock dungeon. They nerfed ch3. They buffed the trash tier 6 accs you can craft. Orb bosses will be nerfed/changed soon enough.
Chapter 3 has been nerfed pretty hard. Chapter 4's dungeons seem okay on my regular account because obviously 13.3k is a lot, but I imagine it's gonna be annoying on my translation alt as it's nowhere near as optimized. Emphasis on annoying though, as looking at the stat values it looks like 300 is the highest we're gonna go for chapter 4.1 so it's probably only a small step up from 3.

If you managed to beat the old ch3, you should be fine. Though I haven't played it yet, and my team is a little better now than it was in vanilla ch3, so I won't be easily comparing.
Given the kind of game this is, reducing the amount of mindless grinding you need to do by as much as the nerf did is very substantial, and the same goes for the damage nerf on the bosses. That's enough to call it what it is.

I absolutely rushed until the end of ch2, and it took me 3 weeks of grind? That isn't a lot for gacha. I also over-prepared, and maxed out more units than I needed. (basically all SS I had)
Pretty sure that if you don't essentially max 12 units (10 SS and 2 S), you can be done in 1-2 weeks for vanilla ch3, less if you don't rush till then. Now it's maybe 3 days less.
They didn't nerf it to reduce the grind a little. They nerfed it so more people can beat it. I don't think it changed much there, though the fight(s) are now a lot more manageable without using an AI script or trial+error yourself to find out patterns.
From what I remember, I needed a month for chapter 3 from the moment I started playing (missed the first month so I started just as it came out), entirely because I made it all the way to 3-21 with just 3 SSes and free Ruka. These nerfs would've undeniably cut the length down to 1-1.5 weeks at most.

Same thing. I know plenty of people who knew what they had to do to get strong enough for 3-21 but just couldn't be bothered because 3-14 and 3-21 were basically just endurance checks.

I did it with one event S (99 Kozue) and one regular S (65 Tama) before the minimum level buff. It was definitely doable, just hell on earth to grind to that point, and if this wasn't a Key VN I would've given up before then.

I'd never even heard of rerolling when I started playing, and I'd be shocked if that was an uncommon feeling given the clash between gacha fans and oldschool Key fans that HBR has constantly had to treat carefully around.

Rerolling is pretty much a default practice in the nip market, even the VAs talked about it during the first few streams(the producer looked at them so funny when they brought it up).

I've heard that be mentioned as the reason why 3-21 was as much of a stat check as it was initially, namely that it was created with the assumption that you had rerolled. Sounds weird as hell to me.
I don't know, I just feel like if this is ever getting an adaptation, you can just straight up remove like third if not the half of ch.3 to have some sensible screen time and nothing would be really lost.
If anything if you love 31A and their kind of filler then everything I've seen up to day 4 so far should only be better for you because it comes at basically no cost to their interactions.
I'm on day 4 and I really appreciate the feeling it gives off. I wouldn't call what 3 did wrong filler or anything, but 4.1 feels more driven and gripping in a way, like it has more of a purpose and that purpose bleeds into the characters and the overall feeling of the world right now. I love it, and for a different reason too from why I loved chapter 2.
They did it a bit for the smug Tsukasa in 3, but it was more of a cute moment because it was really short and barely there. This time they went all out and literally rerecorded every single gameplay line Megumi has for this chapter.

I’m close to the end of the chapter, and it’s been far easier compared to when I was doing chapter 3 months ago. But that’s only because I’ve got a decent collection of 6-star equipment.
Yeah I'm not looking forward to that, but it's more the dual miniboss that annoys me purely for timewasting reasons, especially since the DR gain is so low against it. Any regular boss that's slash resistant is easily wrecked by LB1 Bungo and LB2 Higumin with Byakko's help.

It was amazing and the voice acting was genuinely god tier, yet somehow I cannot describe in words how much I hate Maeda.

Half a day of rerolling paid off, got Aoi, Tama and Seira from the initial rolls but felt lucky and rolled the 20 rolls I got from chapter 1 as well and got Yuki on top of that.

This last boss sure wasn't as much of a pain as in chapter 3. In fact, the only thing I didn't do first try this chapter was when Tsukasa died somewhere on a mountain because I forgot to turn off auto battle. The first two phases were pretty close though and I only made it through thanks to Tama being able to have only healing skills.
I'm torn on the ending, too. Something this definitive for the first half of a chapter feels out of place, but they sure want me to think she's not coming back. If she doesn't, then this at least beats seeing her die, but it just didn't feel fulfilling.
It would be a real dick move to just drop this whole "savior" plotline now with Megumi giving up. I think it did refer to seraph Megumi and this is the kind of plot point that'll be relevant again at the end of a story. Maybe her powers will keep growing and she'll figure out how to send all the cancer and Narvy back home or something like that.

For me it's very easy. This story line will be great and the moment will be really strong ONLY if she comes back from the ditch she puts herself in. If she doesn't and is actually just gone, then it's a complete waste of an interesting character, an interesting power you can do a lot with in the lore that gets more and more evangelion'ish, an interesting muh savior plot point and a massive downgrade in 31A dynamic for no narrative gain, just a downer moment for the sake of a downer moment
But to be honest, I don't remember a single time a Maeda character simply gave up instead of coming back from a desperate "I want to end it all" situation so I have hope(or is it just cope?) for it.
Guess we now have a non-monthly event precedent for playing as someone else, even if only for a moment. Really hope this means we'll get bond events from a perspective other than Ruka's soon.
At least as of day 8, the vast majority of enemies in this chapter are damage sponges with a low DR rate. It's really annoying, especially when you get those slash resist ones.
Did you not get them to 45 before 4.1? The cap has been raised to 60 now, so you're probably not as far behind as you think. Nothing that using up your surplus of lifestones won't fix either, especially as there are new hidden events that you can try and find.
I don't know if I'm moronic, but I genuinely can't parse the ending as if she's gone for good as an alternative way of killing the character off or if her storyline will just continue from that
The game has actually been crashing my phone over and over since the update. I got this error just now after it crashed my phone after entering the tower. It got fixed immediately when I did what it told me to do, but it's still weird.
Just got past the TsukaKaren scene. It definitely could have been built up better throughout the previous chapters, but I'm very glad we got it. They've mostly only hung out together in the background and I think it was mostly that scene in ch 3 where Karen-chan was patting Tsukasa's head that sparked a big increase in fan art.
It's only gonna get harder. Hope you're ready for the double summit golem fight. I already needed 2 OD1s and absolutely every last bit of AOE damage imaginable from LB1 Sumomo, LB2 Tama and LB0 Kozue just to take the barrel walkers down with my very last action. For this one, even LB1 Bungo doesn't have enough damage to kill one with two crits, and that's assuming I have enough turns to repeat the process on the other one.
Credit to them, they've tried some halfway interesting things with the likes of the walkers intentionally targetting the lowest DP party member after powering up, but the damage sponge bullshit is awful and you can't even get the DR any higher than 150% for these enemies.
There's no indication that teams other than A are named in order of expected strength, right? I'm just wondering where 30G ranks in their own generation. A lot of people seem to look up to them, but a 30B team was mentioned a few times already.
Anyone else getting thrown back to the title screen when rewinding to 19:00 on day 10? Even if I rewind to 17:30 before it I still get thrown back after the transition.

They got into a weird situation where it's a bit too long to wait until the anni and releasing it just a month or two before the anni would be dumb, so they kinda have to release it a lot earlier. The same team I've used for everything so far. Tsukasa, Bungo, Ruka, Seira, Megumi and Karen-chan. Held out long enough with Ruka's healing until Seria's ultimate was ready, but then it still took a few more turns. I think 11 in total.
I was pretty overstatted for the entire chapter so I ran my usual Sumomo-Seika-Bungo-Byakko-Kozue-Tama comp. I started with the latter 3 to bait out the pre-fight ability, then switched back to the former 3 on turn 2 and just stuck with it, switching out Bungo for Tama on heal turns if need be. Having crit orbs on the former 3 trivialized the fight, but I wouldn't have needed them anyway given that Tama and Seika are both LB2 and could thus tank for days.

Yeah, I spent all of my free gems on Kozue and Aoi (and spent the initial batch I had when I got into the game on Sumomo and Seika) and got a boatload of dupes as a result. Might honestly break my F2P status and spark for Aoi to make sure I get her too, which could potentially get me even more dupes.
Honestly, just go for it anyway. The chapter's combat is more about damage sponges than the damage the enemies deal, so you might have a chance. Now's as good a time as any to spend your lifestones on catching up too.
Oh look another score attack. Let's see. 50% increased DP that somehow also affects the fricking summons, gradual attack increase and 40% heal reduction. Also basically kills you after 14 turns.
I'm seriously getting sick of this shit. Why do they not just delete all accounts without Seira. That way it's clear and official. How about a modifier that nulls crits? No? Nobody could beat it other than the biggest LB whales? Alright then.
I wanted to continue chapter 4 today, but once again the game pissed me of so much I need a break. This is so fricking sad, and happens way too much on repeat. Oh they also bugged the S tickets. The ones I got today would've run at server reset. Good thing I checked. Not like I got anything from them.
Isn't this literally just the first SA but with the nordstrom items added as rewards? You don't even get weekly missions. Also for your own sake, just get the crit orbs. The earring and bracer buffs should easily swing the tide in your favor at least enough to get one of them, if not all 3 with sufficient grinding. It absolutely makes up for not having Seira.
At least from the perspective of someone who's only here for the Key aspect, I get him, but that's why I don't put up with the rest any more than I want or have to. You can either make do with what's available or just not worry about being ahead of the curve. I can't imagine 120k being an issue with the latest items, for instance, unless you both haven't done a single pull and you haven't rerolled at all.
One thing I think Maeda can pull off with this ending (if he plans to do anything about it) is that we don't actually know for sure if Megumi is being sent to the normal place. Tezuka said so to Ruka, but I can also see it being hijacked by the other army faction and her being sent to some secret lab/prison for the defective seraph users to make her suffer even more or Tezuka lying and actually sending her to some kind of a "rebel" place. If plot goes like this, they can also introduce the datamined girls there.

I can kinda see that happening datamined girl seraph squad went rogue after discovering they were Narvy and they're plotting to wipe out humanity and take over the earth or something, and Megumin joins them.

Given the values for phase 3 (only 200% damage rather than 300%), I wonder if the original plan was to have all 3 phases in one fight and for it to be way harder than it was. I want to say that it might've been an overcorrection from people's complaints about the wall that was 3-21, but so long as they introduce harder postgame content there's nothing I'd want more than for the story to be easy and accessible to everyone, at least so long as they introduce new chapters faster than once every 4-5 freaking months. >but they sure want me to think she's not coming back. I want the opposite, really. A way for alternate SS styles to use the regular appearance. I know it would mess with the animations, but SS2 Yuki is damn strong yet looks so out of place whenever I have to use her.
I still like her. Her feelings are completely understandable. She had a strong personality even if it didn't really have the most time to shine.
I'm sad that we probably aren't seeing more of her and I'll definitely miss her sharp kansai-ben quips.
I really like her. She's a great addition to group scenes, always had a fun dynamic with Ruka and she really seemed to enjoy showing off her powers during their stage performances. I could never get into her relationship with Tama though. Either I didn't see enough of it outside of "Oi, Tama!" moments or they were even more in the background than Tsukasa and Karen.
MeguTama and KareTsuka have both been glossed over a bit in different ways because of the heavy (though understandable) insistence on RukaYuki. You definitely did miss a few extra MeguTama bits though, either that or I just noticed them more since of the 31A duos they have my favorite dynamic by a country mile.
Best girl in 31a at this moment. I liked her even when she was a much simpler character, but with the added depth, her actually believable very human reactions to everything and all the additional context to her meme quirks from the previous chapters, she takes the crown.
I should really have made a checklist a long time ago for when new assets come out. There are new cutin images and who knows how long they've been there. Also all the "Thinking" images from the events with different MCs so far. They call these "panic" but the closed eyes ones look very different.

I used a few of them right after the update that allowed for more active skills. I could have gotten one girl to +20 by now, but I'd rather spread them out. Having 4 skills is actually much more useful than just 3.
Yeah, I have +1 on all the other 31B girls plus Ruka. With 4/6 of my regular party being 31B girls anyway it's super useful to have that extra slot, but I don't know what kind of orb they could introduce that would make me want to push any of them to +5 for a 5th slot.
Has anyone here made experience in which place is best for farming acorns? I'm guessing it's between the golden hopper dungeon and any of the element ring ones because they're pickups on the map there.
Day 9's dungeon is literally hell on earth. I like how they have a different track for the 2 enemy types you would encounter. Let's just say if you get War Alive you're in for a bad time. Also >A multi choice within a dungeon

It's so pointless with this model, where you basically buy access to a monthly mission list. This could've and should've been done without a sub, so people can buy the month whenever they want/can. Easy as frick to track as well. The little arena sprites aren't really enough to justify a sub. It's basically the same as some other games sell you a battle pass or season pass for a certain set of missions/goals, with some boni you get on purchase.
Can someone explain to me how this game makes gazillions of dollars? Everything about it looks generic to bad and I hear it has one of the most horrific monetization's of any gacha out there completely shitting on f2p or low spenders. It doesn't even have a general or get talked about anywhere that I see. And don't say it's because it's not global. Lots of non global gacha had generals before they went global. Where is all this hype coming from? What is so good about the game that it is getting this many people to part with their money?
It's pretty unbalanced but I'm playing for free and can clear everything. I think anything story related is clearable f2p. And that's why it's making money, because Maeda's on the story. The people playing gacha outside Japan probably don't consider Maeda a household name, but he is in Japan so the game had easy publicity before it was ever released. It also helps that he's finally able to write a full scenario that isn't gimped by shitty 1 cour anime schedules, so like every vn otaku that isn't repulsed by the idea of gacha was anticipating it.
The story is a massive return to form for a Maeda who'd been previously struggling with mediocre or downright poor 1cour anime attempts. Even if you were to make this a mere VN and cut out the gameplay, it would probably be excellent, but obviously they'd miss out on the gacha money then and there's no reason to back down now that they've seen just how much they can make by doing this.
I don't know if it stands up to his early works but it's the best thing he's done since he started writing for anime. It's great, and actually has time to let the characters breathe before they start crying, which really does wonders for the emotional impact of the game. I wouldn't say his characters ever really felt bland or blank slate like a lot of characters in the same scope, but HBR's main cast feels a lot more three dimensional and alive than characters in his recent works. There's certainly a gripe in knowing exactly the type of game you're going into when you see he's the writer, but honestly it's been so long since once really lived up to that reputation it feels like a breath of fresh air.
I don't feel shat on as f2p. I guess a big draw is Maeda's storytelling and very likable characters with an overall great dynamic. It's very rare that the main character is a contender for best girl because she just has so much character despite the dialog choices you also get. For a mobile game they've put a lot of work into the presentation of the story. That's kinda the best way I can put it. Also the music is just fantastic. Without the gameplay it would even make a good story on its own.

We are talking about the character gacha, you haven't been able to give an example of a game that does it worse. I'm sure the story is awesome but this isn't the first time I have researched the game and universally wherever I look the number one complaint is how bad the gacha is and second is how bad the gameplay is partly because of how bad the gacha is.

It's generic at first glance. At second glance however there's no other gacha out there where a dupe doubles damage dealt and halves damage taken.
There ARE gacha where you basically HAVE to have a dupe to make chars useful (avoid those like a plague please), but that's the worst I've seen past HBR. Here further dupes are insanely OP as well.
This game needs a heavy rework if it wants to be good. Mostly in regards to the current dupe system that needs to be replaced by a different thing. Level cap and stats shouldn't be affected by it. You can let dupes increase skill max level or something.
Oh and while at it, let all buffs and debuffs affect stats, instead of just crits, and make them not stackable. Done. Finally a use for offensive debuffs. Finally a use for defensive buffs. Finally a Seira who's good but not broken.
This game is actually so easy to fix, if there'd be a will. There just isn't. As it stands, there's literally no reason to ever pull in this game, as it's more sensible to slowly increase the LB of chars you have and save a spark for Seira if you don't have her. If you have her you are probably good forever. Suppose that's why they try the sub with dupe mats.
Worst thing is, they want the game to be playable and accessible for new players at all times. Or so they said. Yet with every new unit they dilute the pool of chars and make it harder to get the things you actually need. Yet LBs are insanely important and harder to get with every new unit released. Seems like the additional way to get LB coins turned out paid only, too, so it will remain the same way as it is right now with roughly 3 dupe mats per month, when you need 10 for a single LB, unless you are paying a LOT, and even then it takes a long time.
I really don't know if they are just incompetent, or their marketing is lying or what is going on. I kinda regret being on this ride, but alas. The train departed a long time ago. Gotta see where it heads.
I'm half-hoping it will never happen, even as someone who relies purely on DeepL right now. It's not like the nips are much better, but the game not being played by as many typical gachagays or /vg/trash is a blessing and probably gives Key more influence over the decisions WFS have made and will make.
I hope it gets its anime first. Even with all the shortcomings of an anime schedule I think having HBR's scenario laid out already helps stave off the worst pitfalls, and I think it'd be a great way to bring out the charm of the characters even more. I'm also a massive shaftgay and their pv was what made me want to play the game in the first place
The thing about an anime is I really don't see one getting anything more than a season, and while chapter 1 is a good introductory chapter that can be fit into a 1cour anime, you know they'd at least try to fit chapter 2 in as well, which is a recipe for a rushed disaster.
I don't think they will shrink chapter 2 as Aoi was always the centerpiece of their marketing. They're 100% going to shrink chapter 3 if it ever reaches it.
That in and of itself is why I'm not sure it'll get an anime. Aoi is the #1 part of their marketing even above Ruka, as you said, but not having said centerpiece in the first season would make life difficult for them, even if having it would 100% imply the rushed disaster I mentioned. That means having it be at least 2cour, but again, good luck with that. Maybe if WFS chimes in like

My ideal would be adapting one of the events for a little self contained peek into the character dynamics, but most investors don't look at things that way.
I think HBR is actually a perfect source for an adaptation. It gives enough material to make the story work as intended, but it will never replace/fully retell the original so there's a great incentive to play it even if you watched the story already.
But it needs some really good staff that actually cares a lot to make it work, not some randos.

It's probably gonna depend on how much money this banner makes them, but given that they went ahead and did this I think it's safe enough to assume that we'll get more thematic events in the future. A swimsuit event every year is all but confirmed at this point.
A major change to events they announced during the stream:
There will be no more event dungeons. Instead, there will be event score attacks. The event prism bosses we’re already used to will be unchanged.
Also, from now on score attacks will run alongside events, and the score attack boss will be the same as the event boss. They will still consume no life to challenge.
And from the event item exchange we can acquire a new “skill guide” item, which apparently allow us to upgrade character skills.

I've been lazy and haven't even started ch4 due to lack of motivation from failing to roll anything/being too weak to do orb bosses, combined with fgo having anniversary this week, but I think I'm going to start it this weekend when I have time then

Honestly, there shouldn't be an issue to just add the language. Steam has the option to choose languages, and based on that different stuff can be available, while it's the same game and servers and all.
That's the nice thing of steam. It handles multiple language versions for you in one release.
The only reason to make completely different releases on steam is publisher related (i.e. global is handled by someone else). In general though, one release is better. (more reviews, more publicity)

The new alternate time boss battle gives a bad first impression.
Having to fast forward all those cutscenes.
Having to fight all the trash mobs all over again.
Your healing and ultimate charges don’t refill before the first fight.
And I completely forgot that it’s a two-phase fight, so I was completely spent when I reached the second phase.
On the bright side you do carry over your SP and OD from the mobs to the boss fight, so it shouldn’t be too hard if you prepare properly.
Pretty annoying how they implemented this, kinda disappointed in this, I'll do it every week because the Nordstrum Crystals are something pretty useful to me.
I also thought it was gonna be way harder, my second party was ready for war for 50 turns. Didn't even need to swap in the end.
Leveling up an ult beyond level 10 is nice. I don't care about the actual intended purpose of the mechanic, I just want to bring the skills to level 13.
For that I'd need an ult at 10. Bloody Dance is my highest at 9, though there's one level remaining in the style upgrade I guess. But the use for that seems minimal.
I think it's obvious that my only LB SS is Karen...
The steps before the actual generize function increase both the skill level and the skill cap, so if you're at 4/10 on the ult, the first one bumps it up to 5/11, then the next one to 6/12 and the third to 7/13.
I was able to beat it without switching with a slash party+ byakko. I feel Shiki is better than Seira in this situation since crits are almost guaranteed for slash characters anyway.
As for the rewards, just 1 crystal is too little for the effort it takes. Generalise is such a niche mechanic, so it basically comes down to 15-30 minutes of active grind for 1 skill level + cap increase. Dogshit when you compare it to afk shuttle run or this weeks score attack. It's in the same weird spot as the orb boss where the grind doesn't weigh up to the rewards , but improving the it would create a "rich get richer" type scenario.
They should give like 3 crystals are something or maybe add it as a weekly mission for the limit break chalice.

I think the reason they're being so stingy is precisely because the current content is so lacking. No idea why they keep adding more and more endgame content when that's not what the game needs more of at the moment, but maybe it's baiting enough people into logging in and spending money, and they sure seem to want to go all in on the whales at the moment.
Did they say anything about pvp in the last stream? In an ideal world I'd like for there to not be any pvp at all, at least nothing that gives practical rewards that further extend the gap between whales and the rest, but we strayed from that path a long time ago.

Started working on the orb boss quests to get the quartz. They really should increase the drop rate or have guaranteed rewards beyond the first clear.
10% drop for bracers beyond the first one for each level, right? It's very low considering you have to spend 2 life per fight, but at least you get 2 lifestones a day for the next couple of weeks so you'll have no shortage of life. I've actually stopped doing the orb boss after beating the level 3 one a few times because even though I can reliably do it and get the ability for everyone, I don't have enough characters to give the crit ability to and I'm fairly sure, say, the blue orb doesn't level up from doing the red orb boss.

I really dislike that they do this. Nerfing chapter 3 half a year after release is the wrong way to handle this situation, but it's not doing much anyways.
Flathand isn't that bad. You have a relatively doable first phase to charge up to 3 bars. Literally every tier 10 enemy existing is worse due to not having that luxury. Be it event SS tier, the first orb boss (thought this one is extra moronic with its at least 50% bonus damage ON TOP of that power level) and whatnot. And tier 10 is doable for a basic SS party. (minus orb boss or maybe special exceptions that just have too much damage build up over time, and you don't have Seira) Yes, you need to do full on def, but it is possible.
Flathand you don't even need that. You DO need SS though. This nerf is just making the SS situation less hard, but you STILL won't be able to use non event S. It changes FRICKING NOTHING.
In other words:
This here won't mean jack. Due to the moronic damage formula in the game, and how only SS have ultis (important for the second phase), it means if you can't beat it now (like, literally can't), you won't beat it then either. Because the reason you can't is because not enough SS and a lack of maxed out event units.
Typical Heaven Burns Red joke though. Wonder when they change something for the better. The damage formula is still the problem. Gear needs to give A LOT MORE stats compared to level and style bonus to make up for this.
No, the change is good. It doesn't do anything to fix the ongoing problems with the gameplay, but it highlights that they're on schedule to release the first part of chapter 4 this summer.
The problem with the boss before wasn't so much the stat value: 290 is rough when you have few means of making yourself stronger, but it's achievable. The problem is that, if you are in a position where you're lacking SSes and stats in general, you are going to have a hard time going beyond that value for both your damage stats and your tank stats at the same time, and with the AOE damage being insane, you'd either have to go all in on stacking the tank stats or strategically sacrifice members at specific moments in the fight while running a double healer setup and stalling until you have full overdrive, possibly both as was the case for me before the A/S level buff. Without crits, it can certainly be a tough ask, one that is made more tedious by the near-lone way of powering yourself up for that boss being running the arena for days until you've maxed your characters' stats.
I begrudgingly accepted it back then due to the lack of postgame content, but in an ideal scenario a game's story should never be locked behind a difficulty wall if it's its primary selling point like it is here, so any nerf is good and nerfing the incoming damage is the best choice given their unlikelihood of changing the damage formula.
Did they at least change it so that you can restart the fight without having to skip through a ton of dialog and cutscenes? I did feel like I beat a real challenge back then, but it could have been way less frustrating, too.

We're getting a thunder dungeon soon. I've only skimmed the news, so I may have missed it, but I found two files BgLightPass.png and BgPremiumPass.png that are just smaller versions of the default Ruka S and SS unit images.
How soon is soon? I can count on one hand how many times I went to the other elemental dungeons combined and I'm dying to use the 40 dungeon tickets I have on something that's useful to me.

Do you actually use each type of new earring? I've only made OD ones so far because I figured more or earlier ODs would make the other ones pointless.
I'm grinding for a good version of the DP one because I can't think of anything better to spend my life on until the 15th when the thunder dungeon drops. The only earrings I have are the OD ones for Byakko and truth be told I haven't really noticed a significant OD increase so far.
NONE of the additional effects on tier 6 accs are worth your time.
Once you maxed the levels of all mattering styles (SS and event S), maxed the style upgrades, got any t6 acc for the offense slot and t5 for the rest with all 3 sub-slots filled ideally with any def +2 or +3 and emptied the event shop, you are simply done right now.
Everything else doesn't matter. The most they do is add 10% to something. And no matter what this something is, it essentially doesn't do anything. Getting like +4 to strength would probably do more than 10% damage increase with this game's fricked up damage formula.
The new accessory bosses they added are literally just there to give you something to throw life at if you did everything actually mattering. Orb bosses are essentially whale only content.

-If you have capable SS, you need to grind them a little less now. A week less of grinding basically.

So the nerf saved people able to beat ch3 1 week of grind, while people with actual issues will get more of an incentive to grind up event S that should perform a little better now, but otherwise are still left hanging. The fight is still ultra ass with them though.

Tier lists in this game varies for each player depending on their character's limit breaks. At the end of the day her ult does the same thing as Yukki, just with slightly higher numbers.

No. It has more than 1 hit. 1 hit ult on a breaker is a very sad joke, as you will never get spill damage. These relatively cheap AOE ults are made for dungeons and all the fricking damage in the world are ultra garbage with 1 hit.
Monaka has the same issue. 10 sp aoe skill that overkills everything, but can't be used against DP as you'd only break that and that's it.
This game needs a hit buffer. Would fix all those low hit units.
The tier lists assumes no LB. Any single LB will immediately make the unit more than twice as good. LB+2 is 5 times as good as no LB. Remember how broken crit damage is? That reduces the enemy stat by 50 for damage calculation. LB+2 is basically 50 to all stats, or rather even more than that. Aka your unit deals damage as if a no LB crits, and takes no damage anymore.

No tier list is ever going to be perfect, but this is good as a reroll guide and I would've appreciated having something like this when I picked the game up without any knowledge of what rerolling even is or how quick and easy it is to do. I found another guide on altema, and while I prefer it as it puts SS Tama and Seira above everyone else, I'm not particularly bothered by either of them. Once you've progressed through enough of the game your priority will rapidly shift from focusing on "pure" tier lists to saving for your favorites or complementing what you have (meta rate-ups or things like the return of the 1.5x banner), and there are other guides for the latter if you need them.

The diamonds being the limiting factor when grinding the earrings is such a drag. The only +1000 DP one I have for DP damage is a measly +2 with the minimum possible wisdom.

Honestly, once I'm done with the mandatory event grind of my archive, I'm just done. There's literally no point to get those dark rings or whatever. 10% damage is nothing. It's never going to decide if you can do something or not.

The boost is nice to have if you have nothing else to spend your life on given how easy and autoable the dungeons are. Also a good way to stock up on that other item that lets you reroll item stats.

I stocked up on those in the fire dungeon to the point, I still swim in them.
I think if I run out of things to do, I'd rather try to get those accs that can have higher def on. Insanely unlikely, but if you'd ever get one, it has real impact. (until the next tier comes..)
On another note, score attack week 3 done. Exactly 30 turns. I got so damn unlucky later in the fight, as NOTHING ever crit. Not that she needs one when she's so good already, but it would be nice if Seika got a good S. It would be great if Seira had a field heal skill or an auto-heal. Something that makes sense for a healer to have. Right now I'm only using her for her crit boost and very rarely to taunt. There's also this set of 6 girls that was in the data for the beta already. They're probably an older seraph unit.

There's only one broken unit, and that is Seira.
Doping is okay, but nowhere near as good as a crit buff. Due to that it's even worse than a simple charge by Shiki, on average. It's also only for the front and doubles damage taken, further limiting its usefulness.
Unless I miss something, I'd consider Seika a relatively bad SS. Gamble ultis are never good, unless it REALLY pays off (aka Seira). And requiring no attack turns for your vanguard only buff, or active overdrive.. I dunno about that. I know how it is to handle S buffer, but at least they buff the entire party.
Speaking of gamble ultis. They really need to change Bungo. That gamble is so not worth it. 50% chance to do nothing? Frick that shit.
Tiers are always a matter of opinion, but I'd place Seira into her own tier. The burst she adds is something no other character can even remotely do. Full Heal is very mandatory though, so it's hard to compare. Technically you can play the game without Seira. It's just going to be relatively impossible to tackle some of the hardest challenges, as your damage is always going to suck. Playing the game without any source of full heal however? No idea how you'd tier this. I'd tier this "why the frick is there still no event S that gives this absolutely mandatory ability".
Seriously. Every good gacha there is gives you a really good healer for free. (or it's common/1star/whatever) Why are they sleeping so long on this. Instead they lower the ch3 difficulty, which won't mean jack if you still don't have a healer for whatever ungodly gacha luck reasons.
Dropped this game shortly after launch, checking back in. Did they ever implement that idea of making S units viable? Do you still need to be a paypig or a reroll luckgod to even clear story mode?

No. If you were really unlucky, you can only reset your account and try again. I've been complaining pretty relentlessly about their shitty management in this regard.
Mind you. You only have to have okay luck. But they seriously have no idea what they are doing. They nerfed ch3 by 500 power level, but that still means no normal S unit can stand against this, and you still need the things you needed before.
You can ignore a few upgrades, but that's a difference of maybe 1 week of grind at most. When you need to grind 2-3 weeks or so with a working party past rushing till the end of ch2, that's not really mattering.
It's pretty funny to see how they stumble around. Bit sad, because even the gameplay has a lot of potential, but I'm over that by now. The designers do not play their game, nor know math.
Yes, they buffed A and S styles to have an initial 85 and 90 level cap, going up to 105 and 110 respectively. They also finally nerfed the bosses. If there's a time to do it, it's now.

Any team with SS Seira should be fine. I don't know how many gems they give you if you start the game now, but in the beginning it didn't take me all that long to roll 4SS units. Getting 4 with Seira being one of them though is going to take longer.

To be fair Megumi is the least story relevant so her kicking the bucket first would make sense. All she has going for her is the psychic cult plot that doesn't really connect with the main story. In terms of story relevance/remaining intrigue left to be uncovered it'd probably go like

I think Megumi is 100% donezo here, but it'll probably be another while before they kill off the next 31A. Though there is the possibility that Megumi somehow retains her memories as a Narby and becomes the mascot mascot character communicating to everyone using telepathy

The flashback-looking CGs in the PV seem to indicate that we'll be touching on that? I'd be very shocked if they waited any period of time between 2 31A deaths though. My money all this time has been on either all of them surviving to the end or Megumi, Tama, Karen and Tsukasa all dying in very quick succession.
I'm mean yeah you're super dead once they start showing flashbacks of your past and go about resolving your character arc.
My guess is that Megumi becomes bummed out that all her hard work could have been a lie because of the memory thing. She was the only one to not get a single line till the end of the pv. Then to prove herself or whatever she goes out in a blaze of glory and reinvigorates everyone's resolve or something like that.
As for the whether or not they'll wait between 31A deaths, that ultimately depends on how long they're planning to have the story go on for. I really doubt they would though since that minimalizes the first one. I really think that Megumi is the Kamina in this case and it'll maybe take till the end before they touch another 31A. There's also the thing with every VA other than Megumi's and Ruka's having some other role tied to the game (streams and radio).

I get the feeling this squad illustration is actually a spoiler/foreshadowing for the group as a whole. Tsukasa on it was already in her serious mode from day 1, which was a tease for ch. 3. Now when you think about it this way, Tama being really far away from everyone and Megumi looking at the other members with melancholy can give some ideas about them dying and/or separating.
I really doubt they'll kill both Megumi and Tama in the same chapter. Tama in the PV says that she can't think of a reason for her existence. I'm almost certain that Megumi's death would give her that reason

Guy who was thinking of rerolling earlier but dreading it, I found I have this reroll saved from way back in the day, would you just go with this if you were me and your other option was rerolling (and you're not a reroll enthusiast)? It has both top tier chars, but I've heard defender sucks and it's an old account so I won't get the start dash rolls. I just care about clearing the story content, don't need to be the most competitive in scoring events and whatnot.
Which S-es does the account have (please say one of them is Tama)? Having SS Tama and Seira is very nice, but of all the possible other SSes for that account to have in a 4-SS spread, Chie and Yuki are literally the two worst. Truth be told, 3-21 post-nerf should be fine, but do keep in mind that we're getting chapter 4.1 in just a few days.
This is basically my starting account but without Seira. Still cleared story and most content since SS units come naturally as you progress.
I wouldn't worry about not having S Tama early on, most will get her sooner or later.
Any reason to worry is mostly for chapter 4.1 at this point because it's finally coming out. Chapter 3 should be fine with any setup, let alone one that has Tama and Seira. Definitely plenty of ways to get S-es, but it's never a guarantee. My alt still doesn't have Shiki at all for instance.
No, it doesn't have S.Tama, sadly. It seems like rerollers now only get 23 rolls though, and hitting both Tama and Seira seems really intimidating. Well, frick.
The deleted comment is mine because I wasn't sure if you were the reroll guy or if I was confused and you were offering it to him. It's a tough call really. I'd recommend saving the account with the password feature and continuing to reroll, as unless they changed something about the feature recently you can always bring it back after deletion so long as you've saved it.
With the crit orb, Seira is a bit less mandatory (though now you can bring her skill to level 13 for, iirc, a whopping 94% maximum possible chance to crit that would make even xcom "99% chance to hit" enthusiasts blush), so if you're in it for the story then SS Tama complete with her existing S is the only one who's truly mandatory. Use one of the tier lists in the thread if need be, maybe aim for that combo plus at least two good SSes that don't have the same role (fire Ruka + SS Tsukasa would be quite good for instance), then compare them. Don't waste too much time because 4.1 is coming soon and they're starting up both the free daily rolls and the 10 logins -> free SS campaign again along with it.

I have already given up rolling on normal banners as a f2p player. Best way to survive playing this game is rolling on x1.5 rate up banners only and hope rng bless me with as many ss characters as possible.
I messed up and was 20 pulls short of sparking the first 1.5 banner on my emu alt. Still massively worth it, got LB2 Yuina plus plenty of other options out of it and now I just need to save up for an enhance banner of some sort. Definitely the best banner by a big margin if you need general options rather than anything specific.

My second guess is that they are super evolved Cancer. We've already seen Cancer mimicking things on earth like birds, wheels, etc. The recent enemies from the 31E event shows how detailed the wheel and bird have come since their more simple and geometric forms so maybe some could have evolved to the point of becoming humans? Who knows, maybe the center girl could even be that Mother Cancer they were talking about
I'd actually be disappointed if they went that super-evolved Cancer route. It would feel too much like Strike Witches and also pretty random after how strong and multi-layered big ones like Flat Hand are turning out to be. In some mission briefings Tezuka listed other seraph units outside of the ones we can play as. They could just be one we haven't seen before, or they're from an older generation.
A rogue unit that recruits 31A would be pretty fun though. Story-wise that would have the most potential. You would lose the already flimsy excuse of how you're able to call other teams' members to help you, but I guess you could just have a whole story chapter with that warning that your team is incongruent with the current story.

Before adjusting stats, there's no speed in this game. You act first, then the enemy acts.
If they absolutely wanted pvp, it might be better if people could create their own "boss", out of a pool of abilities and things, maybe based on what A, S and SS styles you have.
Like any active skill and passive you know can be given the boss, though obviously a max amount, and balanced around it being used by the boss. For example, bosses can't crit, so all crit buff related stuff would just do nothing. The AI script could be automatically created, with ultis requiring a charging turn and all abilities having a certain CD, where they can't be used. Can't any skill be used it'd be a simple normal attack. Charging an ult shouldn't lower that CD either.
Stats should probably just be equalized, like for example every char has 200 all, and the enemy has that as well. HP/DP values can also be adjusted like that.
Of course that'd be a lot of work, but given the system we have, it's one of the few ways of doing so without completely reinventing how the game works. And whales would still benefit from a system like this, as they have access to much more passives from SS styles and in general more moves to mix and match.
But yeah, you already see that pvp isn't something you just add. Either it'd be very different from the rest of the game, or you build bosses. It'd be easier to add a rental system, where people can get a helper from another player. Quite a few games have this and it would fix so many issues HBR has.
Another Eden's collabs do not disappear. HBR's events do not disappear. I'd strongly assume if there's something, it'd stay. Might be a way to get later joining people easier through stuff, by having colab SS to grab.
I'd say impossible until a non key collab or earnings start going down the shitter. Lay it all on me. Honestly this game looks pretty and whatnot but I've heard nothing but awful things about it whenever it gets mentioned.
I mean, you're gonna hear fewer such things now that chapter 4 is out and everyone is focusing on the story. I'm literally only on day 1 of the chapter but I've already seen things I'm really happy with, like Yuki finally getting a moment I really appreciated from her.
This is how I feel as well. The gameplay is painfully anonymous and the gachashit aspects can go frick themselves, and I was certainly less happy with chapter 3 and 30G than most, but the feeling of being incredibly happy to have gotten another Key VN with Maeda being front and center is still there.
It's easier to complain than to praise, but I honestly really like this game. The characters grew on me very quickly and there's only 2 or 3 out of 60 that I don't like. The dialog is also great, especially the comedic bits if they're to your taste. Maeda doesn't waste any time making the main 6 likeable.
The gameplay is so-so. I don't have much experience with gacha, so I'm mostly fine with it, but I bet the number of options to spend your time on that you have now compared to a few months ago will feel overwhelming at first. I'm not gonna spoil the story, but I think it's also really strong. You can feel certain developments coming from a mile away, but predictability doesn't have to be a criticism if it's pulled off well.
The only issue with the gameplay is, how the damage formula makes only SS, probably soon enough LB SS useful. There's no way to upgrade other styles to be useful, which is (by now) almost standard in the gacha industry.
Couple with that, that there's not even an event unit with a full party heal 6 months after release, and it's just bad. Most good gacha make sure you get integral stuff as 1 star/ 2 stars or just simply for free.
In many other ways this game isn't bad. Like menus, ways to upgrade stuff. It's all actually working very well. Just one of the most fundamentally important things doesn't. This leads to weird shit like a dupe being more worthwhile than a new SS, and especially new SS versions of chars where you already have a LB version being NEVER worth it, unless you get a dupe there as well.
In my opinion there's only one fix without changing the formula. Make dupes do something else and the current LB something easily farmable. For example, dupes could add to min and max level of the skills. That still matters, especially when you get quite a few, but nowhere near as much as what we currently have.
I love all of the characters and the music, but I can't defend the gameplay even if I wanted to.
Gameplay is a chore honestly. Makes me wish this was a VN or at least give me the option to just read the stories and skip everything else
Really nice there's finally a Tsukasa x Karen moment after so long, but it's so forced and in your face, Maeda really wasn't subtle with his writing on this one. It's like he realized he slept on it too much during the previous chapters, so he had to compensate.

Way I see it is, this has to be a setup scene, right? Like their dynamic is so irrevocably changed for the worse and Maeda went SO out of his way to highlight that that I'm fairly sure we are in fact going to be taking a break from Megumi with 4.2 being a KareTsuka chapter. On the whole I'm not a big fan, but at the same time I'd already gotten bored of the 31A dynamic by the time I got to chapter 3, particularly the constant "oh yeah they're totally into one another" reactions to RukaYuki. MeguTama was one-note but at least it was always fun, while KareTsuka was great in how much it was left in the background and how much potential it suddenly gained after chapter 3.

I mean, I feel you, she's by far my favorite in 31A and that last scene hurt.
My favorite 31As are Megumi and Awakened Tsukasa. Megumi has been sent off to the farm and Tsukasa has basically killed Awakened Tsukasa because Ruka called the dumb one "cute".
I knew that keeping Awakened Tsukasa around permanently would probably be too much of a narrative liability but I didn't expect it to be this bad.
I have some more tolerance on when we see Megumi again. I mean, Tezuka mentioned a supplement and I remember that the best Toji was introduced half a year into the game's lifespan.
Part of the reason why this was so frustrating is that Megumi barely said anything throughout the chapter outside of narrating her backstory and her outburst at the very end. I get that that's just how her character is, not someone who thinks out loud, but that doesn't make up for how little insight we got into her thoughts.
For me it's the other way around, as in I get that it doesn't make for a super engaging/interesting narrative from a reader's standpoint but I'm happy that Maeda stuck to his guns with her. There are other mistakes I feel he made in that regard anyway, like making the boss fight way too damn anime.
And speaking of supplements, maybe that's where that long-haired girl that featured in those early CGs with a 31A top and a 30G skirt who also happens to be on two of the phone buttons will come into play? I'm slightly hoping it won't happen, but 31A of all squads does need 6 members.
Well, I'm not saying it was the wrong choice. It's not like anyone else in 31A really understood her either. It depends on how her plotline will continue, because it would just be a huge waste if it doesn't.
My issue with this is that I really don't want to wait for 3 more years only for Maeda to say something like "why do you still ask me about Megumi, her story ended in 4.1" in one of his interviews. I understand they have to make it look like it's actually over regardless of their future plans or it won't have the same emotional impact, but it's still obnoxious as frick. I will play 4.2 and all the events leading to it normally, I will still check on the game until 5, if she isn't mentioned by the end of that chapter, then I'm truly out.

I dropped the game after chapter 3 because while I like the characters the gameplay is what it is. How hard is chapter 4?
Chapter 3 has been nerfed pretty hard. Chapter 4's dungeons seem okay on my regular account because obviously 13.3k is a lot, but I imagine it's gonna be annoying on my translation alt as it's nowhere near as optimized. Emphasis on annoying though, as looking at the stat values it looks like 300 is the highest we're gonna go for chapter 4.1 so it's probably only a small step up from 3.

Only by 500, which actually means rather little. If you can beat it now, you could've beaten it before as well.
If you managed to beat the old ch3, you should be fine. Though I haven't played it yet, and my team is a little better now than it was in vanilla ch3, so I won't be easily comparing.
Given the kind of game this is, reducing the amount of mindless grinding you need to do by as much as the nerf did is very substantial, and the same goes for the damage nerf on the bosses. That's enough to call it what it is.

I absolutely rushed until the end of ch2, and it took me 3 weeks of grind? That isn't a lot for gacha. I also over-prepared, and maxed out more units than I needed. (basically all SS I had)
Pretty sure that if you don't essentially max 12 units (10 SS and 2 S), you can be done in 1-2 weeks for vanilla ch3, less if you don't rush till then. Now it's maybe 3 days less.
They didn't nerf it to reduce the grind a little. They nerfed it so more people can beat it. I don't think it changed much there, though the fight(s) are now a lot more manageable without using an AI script or trial+error yourself to find out patterns.
From what I remember, I needed a month for chapter 3 from the moment I started playing (missed the first month so I started just as it came out), entirely because I made it all the way to 3-21 with just 3 SSes and free Ruka. These nerfs would've undeniably cut the length down to 1-1.5 weeks at most.

Same thing. I know plenty of people who knew what they had to do to get strong enough for 3-21 but just couldn't be bothered because 3-14 and 3-21 were basically just endurance checks.
500 less difficulty doesn't change that you can't do it with S.
I did it with one event S (99 Kozue) and one regular S (65 Tama) before the minimum level buff. It was definitely doable, just hell on earth to grind to that point, and if this wasn't a Key VN I would've given up before then.

This is the second time we get a free SS 10roll ticket already. Plus the game is exceptionally friendly to rerollers and you have only yourself to blame if you didn't start with at least 3 SS styles.
I'd never even heard of rerolling when I started playing, and I'd be shocked if that was an uncommon feeling given the clash between gacha fans and oldschool Key fans that HBR has constantly had to treat carefully around.
Rerolling is pretty much a default practice in the nip market, even the VAs talked about it during the first few streams(the producer looked at them so funny when they brought it up).
I've heard that be mentioned as the reason why 3-21 was as much of a stat check as it was initially, namely that it was created with the assumption that you had rerolled. Sounds weird as hell to me.
I don't know, they call it 4.1, but it honestly feels like a proper chapter, just without pointless filler that bloated 3 to the oblivion.

I'm on day 4 and I really appreciate the feeling it gives off. I wouldn't call what 3 did wrong filler or anything, but 4.1 feels more driven and gripping in a way, like it has more of a purpose and that purpose bleeds into the characters and the overall feeling of the world right now. I love it, and for a different reason too from why I loved chapter 2.

Tsukasa had special lines during one of the chapter 3 dungeons as well as at 3-21, but I think that's the only other example so far.
They did it a bit for the smug Tsukasa in 3, but it was more of a cute moment because it was really short and barely there. This time they went all out and literally rerecorded every single gameplay line Megumi has for this chapter.

I’m close to the end of the chapter, and it’s been far easier compared to when I was doing chapter 3 months ago. But that’s only because I’ve got a decent collection of 6-star equipment.
Yeah I'm not looking forward to that, but it's more the dual miniboss that annoys me purely for timewasting reasons, especially since the DR gain is so low against it. Any regular boss that's slash resistant is easily wrecked by LB1 Bungo and LB2 Higumin with Byakko's help.

Half a day of rerolling paid off, got Aoi, Tama and Seira from the initial rolls but felt lucky and rolled the 20 rolls I got from chapter 1 as well and got Yuki on top of that.

So her message about the savior was targeting the current Megumi, right? And it was complete opposite of what Megumi thinks, the og Megumi is actually the one who was being used and pretty much only lived to relay a message to her clone in the future who is the real "savior"(whatever it means)? Because I really don't buy what Megumi said at the end of the chapter about this and I don't think what Tama said is the real meaning of this plot point either.
This last boss sure wasn't as much of a pain as in chapter 3. In fact, the only thing I didn't do first try this chapter was when Tsukasa died somewhere on a mountain because I forgot to turn off auto battle. The first two phases were pretty close though and I only made it through thanks to Tama being able to have only healing skills.
I'm torn on the ending, too. Something this definitive for the first half of a chapter feels out of place, but they sure want me to think she's not coming back. If she doesn't, then this at least beats seeing her die, but it just didn't feel fulfilling.
It would be a real dick move to just drop this whole "savior" plotline now with Megumi giving up. I think it did refer to seraph Megumi and this is the kind of plot point that'll be relevant again at the end of a story. Maybe her powers will keep growing and she'll figure out how to send all the cancer and Narvy back home or something like that.

For me it's very easy. This story line will be great and the moment will be really strong ONLY if she comes back from the ditch she puts herself in. If she doesn't and is actually just gone, then it's a complete waste of an interesting character, an interesting power you can do a lot with in the lore that gets more and more evangelion'ish, an interesting muh savior plot point and a massive downgrade in 31A dynamic for no narrative gain, just a downer moment for the sake of a downer moment
But to be honest, I don't remember a single time a Maeda character simply gave up instead of coming back from a desperate "I want to end it all" situation so I have hope(or is it just cope?) for it.

At least as of day 8, the vast majority of enemies in this chapter are damage sponges with a low DR rate. It's really annoying, especially when you get those slash resist ones.

Did you not get them to 45 before 4.1? The cap has been raised to 60 now, so you're probably not as far behind as you think. Nothing that using up your surplus of lifestones won't fix either, especially as there are new hidden events that you can try and find.

The game has actually been crashing my phone over and over since the update. I got this error just now after it crashed my phone after entering the tower. It got fixed immediately when I did what it told me to do, but it's still weird.
Just got past the TsukaKaren scene. It definitely could have been built up better throughout the previous chapters, but I'm very glad we got it. They've mostly only hung out together in the background and I think it was mostly that scene in ch 3 where Karen-chan was patting Tsukasa's head that sparked a big increase in fan art.

How on earth do you kill the turtles in the tower with no AOE? 2 in 5 turns is even crazier than their double resistance to slash and blunt.

It's only gonna get harder. Hope you're ready for the double summit golem fight. I already needed 2 OD1s and absolutely every last bit of AOE damage imaginable from LB1 Sumomo, LB2 Tama and LB0 Kozue just to take the barrel walkers down with my very last action. For this one, even LB1 Bungo doesn't have enough damage to kill one with two crits, and that's assuming I have enough turns to repeat the process on the other one.
Credit to them, they've tried some halfway interesting things with the likes of the walkers intentionally targetting the lowest DP party member after powering up, but the damage sponge bullshit is awful and you can't even get the DR any higher than 150% for these enemies.

They got into a weird situation where it's a bit too long to wait until the anni and releasing it just a month or two before the anni would be dumb, so they kinda have to release it a lot earlier. The same team I've used for everything so far. Tsukasa, Bungo, Ruka, Seira, Megumi and Karen-chan. Held out long enough with Ruka's healing until Seria's ultimate was ready, but then it still took a few more turns. I think 11 in total.
I was pretty overstatted for the entire chapter so I ran my usual Sumomo-Seika-Bungo-Byakko-Kozue-Tama comp. I started with the latter 3 to bait out the pre-fight ability, then switched back to the former 3 on turn 2 and just stuck with it, switching out Bungo for Tama on heal turns if need be. Having crit orbs on the former 3 trivialized the fight, but I wouldn't have needed them anyway given that Tama and Seika are both LB2 and could thus tank for days.

Yeah, I spent all of my free gems on Kozue and Aoi (and spent the initial batch I had when I got into the game on Sumomo and Seika) and got a boatload of dupes as a result. Might honestly break my F2P status and spark for Aoi to make sure I get her too, which could potentially get me even more dupes.
Honestly, just go for it anyway. The chapter's combat is more about damage sponges than the damage the enemies deal, so you might have a chance. Now's as good a time as any to spend your lifestones on catching up too.

Isn't this literally just the first SA but with the nordstrom items added as rewards? You don't even get weekly missions. Also for your own sake, just get the crit orbs. The earring and bracer buffs should easily swing the tide in your favor at least enough to get one of them, if not all 3 with sufficient grinding. It absolutely makes up for not having Seira.

At least from the perspective of someone who's only here for the Key aspect, I get him, but that's why I don't put up with the rest any more than I want or have to. You can either make do with what's available or just not worry about being ahead of the curve. I can't imagine 120k being an issue with the latest items, for instance, unless you both haven't done a single pull and you haven't rerolled at all.

One thing I think Maeda can pull off with this ending (if he plans to do anything about it) is that we don't actually know for sure if Megumi is being sent to the normal place. Tezuka said so to Ruka, but I can also see it being hijacked by the other army faction and her being sent to some secret lab/prison for the defective seraph users to make her suffer even more or Tezuka lying and actually sending her to some kind of a "rebel" place. If plot goes like this, they can also introduce the datamined girls there.

I can kinda see that happening datamined girl seraph squad went rogue after discovering they were Narvy and they're plotting to wipe out humanity and take over the earth or something, and Megumin joins them.
Inclined to believe the second theory. "Lying" out of kindness is very much something I can see Tezuka doing, and while it might be premature of me to say, if I didn't trust her before this chapter then I absolutely do now.
Given the values for phase 3 (only 200% damage rather than 300%), I wonder if the original plan was to have all 3 phases in one fight and for it to be way harder than it was. I want to say that it might've been an overcorrection from people's complaints about the wall that was 3-21, but so long as they introduce harder postgame content there's nothing I'd want more than for the story to be easy and accessible to everyone, at least so long as they introduce new chapters faster than once every 4-5 freaking months.

I still like her. Her feelings are completely understandable. She had a strong personality even if it didn't really have the most time to shine.
I'm sad that we probably aren't seeing more of her and I'll definitely miss her sharp kansai-ben quips.
I really like her. She's a great addition to group scenes, always had a fun dynamic with Ruka and she really seemed to enjoy showing off her powers during their stage performances. I could never get into her relationship with Tama though. Either I didn't see enough of it outside of "Oi, Tama!" moments or they were even more in the background than Tsukasa and Karen.
She also has the best body out of the main cast.
MeguTama and KareTsuka have both been glossed over a bit in different ways because of the heavy (though understandable) insistence on RukaYuki. You definitely did miss a few extra MeguTama bits though, either that or I just noticed them more since of the 31A duos they have my favorite dynamic by a country mile.

Best girl in 31a at this moment. I liked her even when she was a much simpler character, but with the added depth, her actually believable very human reactions to everything and all the additional context to her meme quirks from the previous chapters, she takes the crown.
I should really have made a checklist a long time ago for when new assets come out. There are new cutin images and who knows how long they've been there. Also all the "Thinking" images from the events with different MCs so far. They call these "panic" but the closed eyes ones look very different.

I used a few of them right after the update that allowed for more active skills. I could have gotten one girl to +20 by now, but I'd rather spread them out. Having 4 skills is actually much more useful than just 3.
Yeah, I have +1 on all the other 31B girls plus Ruka. With 4/6 of my regular party being 31B girls anyway it's super useful to have that extra slot, but I don't know what kind of orb they could introduce that would make me want to push any of them to +5 for a 5th slot.

Golden hopper doesn't have acorns (the reroll stones), only the unlocker sun stones. It's definitely the ring dungeons, you get an unlocker too.

It's so pointless with this model, where you basically buy access to a monthly mission list. This could've and should've been done without a sub, so people can buy the month whenever they want/can. Easy as frick to track as well. The little arena sprites aren't really enough to justify a sub. It's basically the same as some other games sell you a battle pass or season pass for a certain set of missions/goals, with some boni you get on purchase.
Can someone explain to me how this game makes gazillions of dollars? Everything about it looks generic to bad and I hear it has one of the most horrific monetization's of any gacha out there completely shitting on f2p or low spenders. It doesn't even have a general or get talked about anywhere that I see. And don't say it's because it's not global. Lots of non global gacha had generals before they went global. Where is all this hype coming from? What is so good about the game that it is getting this many people to part with their money?
It's pretty unbalanced but I'm playing for free and can clear everything. I think anything story related is clearable f2p. And that's why it's making money, because Maeda's on the story. The people playing gacha outside Japan probably don't consider Maeda a household name, but he is in Japan so the game had easy publicity before it was ever released. It also helps that he's finally able to write a full scenario that isn't gimped by shitty 1 cour anime schedules, so like every vn otaku that isn't repulsed by the idea of gacha was anticipating it.
Is the story even good? Is it ever going to get a global release?
The story is a massive return to form for a Maeda who'd been previously struggling with mediocre or downright poor 1cour anime attempts. Even if you were to make this a mere VN and cut out the gameplay, it would probably be excellent, but obviously they'd miss out on the gacha money then and there's no reason to back down now that they've seen just how much they can make by doing this.

I don't know if it stands up to his early works but it's the best thing he's done since he started writing for anime. It's great, and actually has time to let the characters breathe before they start crying, which really does wonders for the emotional impact of the game. I wouldn't say his characters ever really felt bland or blank slate like a lot of characters in the same scope, but HBR's main cast feels a lot more three dimensional and alive than characters in his recent works. There's certainly a gripe in knowing exactly the type of game you're going into when you see he's the writer, but honestly it's been so long since once really lived up to that reputation it feels like a breath of fresh air.

I don't feel shat on as f2p. I guess a big draw is Maeda's storytelling and very likable characters with an overall great dynamic. It's very rare that the main character is a contender for best girl because she just has so much character despite the dialog choices you also get. For a mobile game they've put a lot of work into the presentation of the story. That's kinda the best way I can put it. Also the music is just fantastic. Without the gameplay it would even make a good story on its own.

Autismo, I'm telling you as someone who played A LOT of gachas, it's literally a generic fricking system. You're not even fricking playing the game and you're arguing about it, like what the frick.
It's generic at first glance. At second glance however there's no other gacha out there where a dupe doubles damage dealt and halves damage taken.
There ARE gacha where you basically HAVE to have a dupe to make chars useful (avoid those like a plague please), but that's the worst I've seen past HBR. Here further dupes are insanely OP as well.
This game needs a heavy rework if it wants to be good. Mostly in regards to the current dupe system that needs to be replaced by a different thing. Level cap and stats shouldn't be affected by it. You can let dupes increase skill max level or something.
Oh and while at it, let all buffs and debuffs affect stats, instead of just crits, and make them not stackable. Done. Finally a use for offensive debuffs. Finally a use for defensive buffs. Finally a Seira who's good but not broken.
This game is actually so easy to fix, if there'd be a will. There just isn't. As it stands, there's literally no reason to ever pull in this game, as it's more sensible to slowly increase the LB of chars you have and save a spark for Seira if you don't have her. If you have her you are probably good forever. Suppose that's why they try the sub with dupe mats.
Worst thing is, they want the game to be playable and accessible for new players at all times. Or so they said. Yet with every new unit they dilute the pool of chars and make it harder to get the things you actually need. Yet LBs are insanely important and harder to get with every new unit released. Seems like the additional way to get LB coins turned out paid only, too, so it will remain the same way as it is right now with roughly 3 dupe mats per month, when you need 10 for a single LB, unless you are paying a LOT, and even then it takes a long time.
I really don't know if they are just incompetent, or their marketing is lying or what is going on. I kinda regret being on this ride, but alas. The train departed a long time ago. Gotta see where it heads.

I'm half-hoping it will never happen, even as someone who relies purely on DeepL right now. It's not like the nips are much better, but the game not being played by as many typical gachagays or /vg/trash is a blessing and probably gives Key more influence over the decisions WFS have made and will make.
I hope it gets its anime first. Even with all the shortcomings of an anime schedule I think having HBR's scenario laid out already helps stave off the worst pitfalls, and I think it'd be a great way to bring out the charm of the characters even more. I'm also a massive shaftgay and their pv was what made me want to play the game in the first place
The thing about an anime is I really don't see one getting anything more than a season, and while chapter 1 is a good introductory chapter that can be fit into a 1cour anime, you know they'd at least try to fit chapter 2 in as well, which is a recipe for a rushed disaster.
I don't think they will shrink chapter 2 as Aoi was always the centerpiece of their marketing. They're 100% going to shrink chapter 3 if it ever reaches it.
That in and of itself is why I'm not sure it'll get an anime. Aoi is the #1 part of their marketing even above Ruka, as you said, but not having said centerpiece in the first season would make life difficult for them, even if having it would 100% imply the rushed disaster I mentioned. That means having it be at least 2cour, but again, good luck with that. Maybe if WFS chimes in like

Getting a split cour is actually not unrealistic for an adaptation, especially if they will work with something like aniplex.
There's not really a good way to split it up unless it's two cour, but I do think that's possible. WFS has cash and split cour is becoming pretty common two, which looks like it reduces some of the risks involved. My ideal would be adapting one of the events for a little self contained peek into the character dynamics, but most investors don't look at things that way.

I think HBR is actually a perfect source for an adaptation. It gives enough material to make the story work as intended, but it will never replace/fully retell the original so there's a great incentive to play it even if you watched the story already.

There will be no more event dungeons. Instead, there will be event score attacks. The event prism bosses we’re already used to will be unchanged.
Also, from now on score attacks will run alongside events, and the score attack boss will be the same as the event boss. They will still consume no life to challenge.
And from the event item exchange we can acquire a new “skill guide” item, which apparently allow us to upgrade character skills.
Good fricking riddance to the event dungeons if so. Glad they realized they're no good right now and we'd much rather just have more fun boss fights.

I'm starting to hate score attack, so this is a meh change for me since I'm barely clearing 120k and I usually need a perfect run to get even that...
I haven't done the arena in like months...I guess I'll have to start autoing it again
Chapter 4 Arena is pretty good value, anon. Also it never hurts to have extra GP laying around all things considered.
I've been lazy and haven't even started ch4 due to lack of motivation from failing to roll anything/being too weak to do orb bosses, combined with fgo having anniversary this week, but I think I'm going to start it this weekend when I have time then
I started but I'll wait till the steam version hits now. Then I'll get disappointed that something doesn't work (actually region locked after all, maybe broken.. crashing whatever) and play it on my phone after all, draining the entire battery in a few hours...
I hope it's not region-locked, or that there's a way around it like that DOA game where you do stuff to add it once and then you're fine to log in normally

I really hope there's no actual surprise region lock on the game. My Bluestacks performance is fine, but I'm sure it'll be better without going through an emulation stage.
How they will handle steam that has everything if global ever happens, considering global will start running all the events/chapters from the beginning? A separate version?
Honestly, there shouldn't be an issue to just add the language. Steam has the option to choose languages, and based on that different stuff can be available, while it's the same game and servers and all.
That's the nice thing of steam. It handles multiple language versions for you in one release.
The only reason to make completely different releases on steam is publisher related (i.e. global is handled by someone else). In general though, one release is better. (more reviews, more publicity)
It probably would be better to make this new Ruka to work like a skin rather than an alt but only S.
Valentines theme is a bit weird because it's usually a pure self-insert pandering thing, but in this game you would have to frame it around the shipping pairs.

The new alternate time boss battle gives a bad first impression.
Having to fast forward all those cutscenes.
Having to fight all the trash mobs all over again.
Your healing and ultimate charges don’t refill before the first fight.
And I completely forgot that it’s a two-phase fight, so I was completely spent when I reached the second phase.
On the bright side you do carry over your SP and OD from the mobs to the boss fight, so it shouldn’t be too hard if you prepare properly.
Only one swap allowed too, that caught me off, had to restart once.
Pretty annoying how they implemented this, kinda disappointed in this, I'll do it every week because the Nordstrum Crystals are something pretty useful to me.
I also thought it was gonna be way harder, my second party was ready for war for 50 turns. Didn't even need to swap in the end.

Leveling up an ult beyond level 10 is nice. I don't care about the actual intended purpose of the mechanic, I just want to bring the skills to level 13.
For that I'd need an ult at 10. Bloody Dance is my highest at 9, though there's one level remaining in the style upgrade I guess. But the use for that seems minimal.
I think it's obvious that my only LB SS is Karen...
The steps before the actual generize function increase both the skill level and the skill cap, so if you're at 4/10 on the ult, the first one bumps it up to 5/11, then the next one to 6/12 and the third to 7/13.
I was able to beat it without switching with a slash party+ byakko. I feel Shiki is better than Seira in this situation since crits are almost guaranteed for slash characters anyway.
As for the rewards, just 1 crystal is too little for the effort it takes. Generalise is such a niche mechanic, so it basically comes down to 15-30 minutes of active grind for 1 skill level + cap increase. Dogshit when you compare it to afk shuttle run or this weeks score attack. It's in the same weird spot as the orb boss where the grind doesn't weigh up to the rewards , but improving the it would create a "rich get richer" type scenario.
They should give like 3 crystals are something or maybe add it as a weekly mission for the limit break chalice.
Yeah I thought we were getting 3 like they first handed out. 1 per week? So a month to generize 1 style? They sure want to make sure we have "content" for a long time.

We just got SS Kozue recently and Sumomo is cute, which is a good fit for a haunted house.
I assume the house isn't actually haunted and it's some cancer/high tech autism thing. If there was an actual spiritualist she could just straight up tell if the ghosts are not the real ones.
