What works well against chargers? Was playing and some guy was seemingly using an air strike that was locked on the charger and killed it in one hit. On challenging at least. Couldn't catch the name of the strike.

Anti-material rifle if you have no railgun
requesting an eagle or orbital strike and sticking it directly onto him if you don't have an anti-material rifle either
Alternatively wait until he charged past you and throw all of your grenades under him, if you run an armor set that gives you +2 to grenade capacity it should be enough to kill it
My currently strategy is spamming anti tank pods because they're on relatively low cooldown and then shooting off their armor. I'm working on the ship upgrade that reduces its cooldown which requires rare samples
Orbital Railcannon is probably one of the best calldowns in game, but only if the entire team runs a few and only for suicide mission+ level stuff.
The biggest cause of failed missions is spending too much time fighting a breach/dropship that spawns heavies + base heavies.
Even if you can kill everything with railgun inevitably it takes a bit too long to burn through the large targets so patrols or new spawns start calling in more reinforcements. Having 4 railcannons lets you immediately turn an extended firefight into a quick clear, and you just play a bit more carefully till its up.
Without coordination though the laser is better for salvaging the shit situations, but you have to play more objective focused since you're limited to 3 per mission, which usually means 1 per major objective.
Dump a few EAT or whatever into the front legs and you'll nuke a majority of it's health, then you can dive left/right and mag dump into it's back to finish it, but for whatever reason it's legs are the weakest part of it
exposed flesh (stuff under armor) takes bonus damage, especially for the Charger. Blowing off armor on the front legs is easiest, since it's charging at you. Recoilless and EAT can blast the armor off in one shot, railgun takes two shots. Then you can easily kill the charger by shooting the exposed flesh on that leg, with some guns it won't even take half a magazine from your primary to do it.
Orbital Railcannon can deal a lot of damage, and the Eagle 110 missiles can also take a good chunk, but they sometimes don't take it out outright. The orbital laser is also an option, but it is mostly killing by burning the charger, and that takes a little longer.
Similarly you can use the flamethrower to kill a charger easily, but more slowly, since it's pretty easy to dodge it's charges. It also has the benefit of letting you kill some small fry while you burn the charger, but again this is a slower method.
Always bring a recoilless rifle on bug missions for that reason. Call it in, and get on the mic and tell one of the tards on your team to help you load it. Alternatively, I've found if you call it in and take the backpack and let one of the morons on your team have the weapon itself, it is more enticing in having them actually help. Then you can forcibly teamload them. A lot of morons don't even know teamloading is a thing on heavy weapons.
As far as stratagems go, the generic orbital is good if you can get the timing down. It comes back quick too, even quicker if you get the 10% cooldown unlock on the ship. People sleep on how good the generic precision orbital strike is. I think people assume it sucks just because you start with it unlocked.
First you need to figure out if you need to run or fight.
On diff 8-9 it's basically pointless to fight them because the game is in a constant glitched state when it spawns chargers nonstop at you and they're immediately aggroed to you.
If you think you can deal with them, the fastest way is 2 rail shots to the leg to scrape armor and then empty half a mag from breaker to finish it. Otherwise you have to play bait and drag bugs away from objective while your friends finish it, hopefully you will be able to break away from them or buy enough time for your friends to finish what they were doing, attract more bugs to fill the spawn quota and they you get rid of chargers 1 by 1 with no new spawns (there will be new spawns but they will spawn on your friends, not you)
Land an EMS strike and follow up. EMS orbital has an incredibly short CD and pretty quick deployment especially if you buffed the firing speed of orbitals.

EMS is really fricking busted, but its for solo operations against bugs. You drop it on yourself, work the console while everything is stunned, then sprint out and cover your escape with a smoke. That and disabling bug breaches.

The fleshy bit on a charger is not it's weakspot.
You have to destroy the armor on the legs (1/2 shots from the railgun AT or rocketlauncher) and then you can shoot it down in a few shotgun or rifle hits.
Theres a bug where during the charge stop and turning animation the legs are vulnerable to any gun. You need to magdump one leg with machine pistol or breaker to kill in one cycle. I think this only works if youre the host or the guy hosting the game has low latency for you.
Just dive to the side at the last moment he charges if you have aggro so it starts it turning animation. I tried to just run diagonally to its side without diving during the charge to trigger this but it just seems fast enough to track and hit me.

There is nothing completely unique if you've already played a lot of games in the genre, what makes it special is that it's really well executed
The gameplay is fun, you get a really nice selection of weapons, the grind for upgrades entices you to play certain missions but it doesn't feel like you're going to work just to keep up with the game

The main gimmick is being able to call down ordinance and support weapons from your ship in low orbit using a, for lack of a better term, DDR style code to pick what you're calling in and toss it, calling down various orbital strikes, or eagle strafing runs.
It's whacky old video game style bullshit where the mechanics are solid but anything can happen. Coop multiplayer, solid gunplay, dynamic progressions that are relevant to the lore. It's just fun.
Players capture a certain number of world and then the devs can view progression and create events like "oh no the bugs invaded these world, get in here and save Democracy™" or they can push back humanity all the way to super earth by ramping up difficulty or the rate of loss on planets and use that as spring board events for new hordes, new weapons, etc.

What's the purpose of the expendable anti-tank when the recoilless rifle exists? Even if you're manning it on your own you can still put out more than two shots every 70 seconds which is what the anti-tank gives you.

Two shots from an Autocannon or the Anti-Material Rifle delivered directly to the eye will kill hulks. They've got a unique death model for when this happens - it looks like their face was cavitated.

You sacrifice a backpack slot for no tangible benefit. It's supposed to be mobile cover against small arms fire and you still get shot from the front by small arms fire. It's fricking moronic.
The riot shield completely nullifies any of the red laser projectiles that hit it besides tanks shots. The problem is that its hitbox is 1:1 to its model. It will only protect you from the front, and your exposed firing arm can still be hit.
So it is yet another example of a strategem that is completely outclassed by another? As in there is no practical reason to ever use it over the personal shield gen? So fricking disappointing.
I figure the design between the two should have been temporary protection from all angles for the one and consistent protection from one angle for the other. But the riot shield doesn't even do that. It's literally just a useless trap.

I feel like that's a moot point because it's doesn't consistently block small arms fire. It also doesn't block any larger projectiles unlike the bubble shield which eats the one shot rockets from raiders and devasators.

turrets can be good but they are nowhere near meta-level
I know I probably need to get the health increase ship upgrade for turrets, but right now I feel they are mainly good for defense missions. But sometimes they just eat a stray rocket near immediately and get blown up. I miss the repair tool.

As a Helldivers 1 player, I think most of you just don't understand that the only reason there is even a "meta" is that everything right now in Helldivers 2 is very, very limited to what was available in HD1. It's not just mechs (though there were three kinds of mechs), it also APC, HAV, motorcycle, tank, repair tool, manual mortar, c4, toxic avenger, shredder missles, distractor beacon, etc, etc, etc. And that's just stratagems. There's also about a dozen weapons primary weapons missing, as well. Couple that all with the fact that there isn't even a real upgrade system for any of the stratagems and weapons.
And on top of that, not being able to select multiple of the same loadout hurts the low level stratagems. Maybe napalm might not be so bad if I could run more than one? Some gays in these threads like to go "MUH 4 500KG," even though no one went 4 shreddar missiles in HD1 which were better than the 500kg. But honestly someone loading out with 4 500kg bombs would still be more interesting than the railgun/shield/orbital railcannon/500kg load that everyone uses. Aiming a 500kg is actually much more tougher to aim and takes more skill than a hitscan railgun with a frickton of ammo, that's for sure.
I think you're vastly overestimating the number of HD1 players currently playing 2. Metagays only know how to look up a guide before they play, which is what they're doing. They're not intuiting the best options by analyzing stats and their own gameplay, they're regurgitating shit that was told to them by autists. End of rine.
But there's only so little to regurgitate right now. If there were actual options to regurgitate then at least these people would have to make some decision for themselves as to which option they will regurgitate.

How do you make something like napalm as good as an option as the cluster bomb? Even if you gave it the same number of uses as the cluster bomb, the cluster bomb just does a better job at clearing. Napalm is useful because it seals off a lane of attack with fire, and you really need to seal off more than one lane at a time to make it worth more than just blowing up an area with a cluster bomb.

This is the only real option. Right now enemies just ignore fire because of braindead AI. But in HD1 enemies would walk around the first (which is why you need to seal multiple lanes at the same time). But maybe dumber AI is a feature of HD2. But if they ever make enemies account for fire, then more damage and effective against armor is a moot point.
After all the fixes the game got very unstable. I have basically 50% chance of crashing when I minimize the game.
Oh and also I really can't be bothered to finish a mission when I can see that morons on my team will teamkill me and fail to extract, or will go to extraction as soon as I finish objective on the other side of the map. I can't be bothered helping them finish the mission if they have no intention of collecting samples. Sure I wouldn't quit if entire team weren't buttholes, but since they fixed quick play I only get matched with chinks and always have bad experience. I even tried going duo with my moronic friend who can't handle shit past diff 5, but I barely managed to complete one mission because he always gets desynced, disconnects, can't call stratagems, etc. and half the time I simply get stuck on deployment animation.

I don't struggle with it, it's more that I can't count how many times someone's dumped people in the middle of blobs only for them to get completely fricked over because they aren't actually bothering to shoot the 2 locations of interests, bug breach, and hive that they collected into one area. Also couldn't tell you how many times people run in front of others who are shooting or intentionally run into stratagems that someone chucked

Railgun should have 10 shots. Would make unsafe more viable. Unsafe shots should strip charger armor immediately instead of still requiring 2 shots (it does). This thing should feel dangerous to use and scary, not just an instant threat deleter
No, the railgun should have a backpack. The fact that you can quickly reload it on the move already makes it extremely portable - not requiring some kind of backpack battery pushes it over the top. The only downside it has is that it doesn't count as explosive, making it ineffective against buildings and weak spots.
Making it require a backpack would break the Railgun/Shieldeta and give it some actual downsides compared to the AMR.
A simple solution to improve gear choice at higher levels is to implement weapon upgrading / modifying so more are viable and you can use the weapon of choice rather than what works best. Not jutst increasing numbers but functionality, eg upgrade to armor piercing / incediary etc that sort of thing.
why does every co-op game get second-hand metagays that don't even experiment themselves to see what's effective but complain about the weapon balance being bad because some weapons are popular? it isn't enough they they blindly follow the meta, they have to complain about "needing" to follow the meta despite never trying the other options themselves.
It's a pervading disease that never got enough attention, so here we are now. They'll solely use a weapon with a 0.003% advantage over another weapon explicitly because of that 0.003%, even though the two may be completely identical according to end result. Many won't even acknowledge that there really isn't a difference between the two.
But I have, all the way up to 9, and at 8-9 if you bring a funny meme build it's basically a self-imposed handicap for the extra challenge. Hulks basically become footsoldiers so good luck deleting them with your las scythe or your Flamethrower. If you have fun in 5 or 6 that's fine, but it's kinda disappointing to frick around all the way up to 7 and then the game starts funneling you into using very noticeable outliers.

hulks are piss poor easy cause even anti material destroys them in 2 hits. Automatons in general are much easier than bugs, even tank dies in a single impact grenade and pretty much cant hit you if you just jump on top of it. Eh, it's more of a battle of attrition and a patrol dodging minigame. Bots meanwhile are almost all armour (which again limits your loadout), rocket devastators sniping you from across the map, jammers, artilleries, 1HKO turrets that are extremely annoying to take down and detector towers that can just bug out on you.
Because the balancing for most of the weapons and gear is beyond trash right now. If you take the bad shit you're not just hindering the team, you're actively going to have a bad time just from how little you contribute to anything (something you would realise if you actually played the game)
Some of the shit just overlaps too much, why use a 3 minute cooldown Gatling when you could have a Clusterbomb aitstrike? Both kill fodder, clusterbomb will absolutely get you more fodder kills. I think you can call down 5 clusterbombs, and still rearm and get it back before the gatling is back up since with ship upgrades the Eagle Rearm is 2 minutes.
I like the marksman rifle. It's shots go through enemies, so even though it has only like 8 bullets per magazine, you can get a hit on multiple enemies. Plus, it one taps small bugs and low rank bots.
If we're following the trend of aping infamous sci-fi factions (not counting the aliens from the first game), I'd want pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (zombie plants with some sentience) mixed with these fricks as the bigger enemies. It'd also five flame/gas weapons more use if they dealth double damage.

this game has really cool smoke effects, atmosphere and scale to it. It looks a bit janky in the animations but I think it will become a very good game in a year if they keep updating it.

yues, you can switch to a first person shooting mode. You can also set it up to remember your aiming mode so some weapons will always use first person (good for scoped weapons) or you can set it up that tapping the ADS button will go first person and holding will be normal aiming.
You can hit mmb to swap between the two and hitting R while not aiming lets you swap fire rates, the flashlight, and scope range if the gun has it

Ah yes shitty game decisions like better and more fun to use guns as you progress in difficulty, the game requiring strategy to win each mission, with certain classes being god tier on certain missions and shit on others, and a huge range of weapons to use on each class depending on your style (which also balance around certain enemies)
The one falsity about EDF is that you have to grind, but it’s not true. Experts showed me how to exploit positioning relative to spawns and using the npcs properly to help you win. I completed INFERNO on 5 with about 4-5k hp, which you can pick up easily just playing with all the classes. It’s a great game and well designed

first, check your settings. if you are set to friends only you cannot have randoms join. second, you need to select a mission before it flags your ship for joining. then people join, then you launch the pods. or you can join other missions on the map if you don't want to host.

The scorcher plasma rifle is insane vs cyborgs, it 2-shots walkers from the front, 1-shots the little guys, handles very well and has low recoil. It’s one of the best primaries in the game for cyborgs but most people haven’t unlocked it so it’s not meta yet.
The dominator is mid at best, it handles like shit and the slugger does everything it does better with more ammo economy.
The bolter does more damage per shot but has massive recoil and will ricochet off any armor it doesn't penetrate. It doesn't have an AoE, it just counts as explosive damage - the ricochet means it can't actually hurt the vents on tanks, hulks, or cannon towers. However, it can apparently kill hulks by shooting the eye slit.
The sorcher does less damage per shot but always explodes on impact and does some actual AoE. This means it can kill tanks, hulks, and cannon towers by shooting their vents, requiring about a full magazine to destroy this way. It can also kill scout striders with three shots to the front armor, since the explosion reaches through the visor despite the actual shots not penetrating. The explosion also means that kills spore trees in four hits and pops multiple egg clusters per shot giving it some nice utility.
I prefer the Scorcher as a general-purpose weapon, though be advised it will kill you with the explosion it generates if you try to shoot in melee or the bullet hits the cover you're behind.
The breaker is fun if you want to make the game as boring as possible. Every other gun requires some sort of recoil management, range management, etc while the breaker just deletes everything short to long range with no recoil. It’s massively overpowered and trivializes the game.
Nah, lose 2 mags and its balanced. The problem with Slugger, with medium pen and slower fire rate, is its like 60 shots TOTAL. Breaker is like 100 shots total.
The ARs need like 10 bullets extra in each mag. Snipers/DMR need to break armor off after 4 shots on a charger compared to Railguns 2.

Smoke strikes help but the only times I’ve beaten those missions are with a squad who can use the recoilless rifle flawlessly to kill dropships. Then the rest of the squad spams mortars and smokes. I haven’t beaten the mission at anything higher than 7 though.

I got into resident es troon's game when I wanted to farm orange samples on diff 5. I didn't even get to frick off to start gathering samples, I got kicked as soon as I walked 20m away to clear a stalker nest.

Why is the railgun so OP? There's no reason to use much else once you've got it. The game is hard enough at 7+. I enjoyed the mechanics of the recoilless or even AMR. Buff it. Stalwart should be a primary. Breaker is clear and away the best Primary, unless Stalwart was bumped down.
I prefer EAT for heavies but I still end up using railgun over it just because taking down medium targets like the walkers is annoying. EAT obliterates tanks with 2 hits to armored parts or 1 direct hits to weak points, EAT 1 shots bile titans if you make them EAT a rocket, EAT blows off charger armor with no real need to aim it or outright kills them if you blow 2 on one. effects like call down time +100% just make EAT worse in a lot of situations at higher difficulties since it's something you call on demand.
So does this still have queue issues on PC? Or is it fixed? I don't know if my PC can run this at non-eyesore quality, so I can't afford to waste the Steam refund 2 hour time limit on queues.

It's mostly fixed. Might come back during peak hours this weekend. The last 3 days I load in instantly every single time. The 3 days prior I had to wait about an hour, then about an average of like 5-15 mins. Not counting the times I joined a friend's squad, which had a much better success rate.
Last night the dev said they managed to raise the limit to 700k concurrent players.
Honestly the base assault rifle is probably the best one. Accurate, decent damage and doesn't chew through ammo like the breaker. Good for gunning down the chaff, everything bigger than that gets a rail gun to the face or an orbital laser.
Also if one more Black person leaves a mission while we're winning or wonders off, I'm gonna lose my shit.
Yeah, but I can snipe Terminator faces shitting out 7-10 rounds in under a second with near zero recoil from across the map. I'm also killing melee chainsaw hand bots faster due to faster fire rate.

Don't know if it applies to aim down sight mode, but when you get hit while aiming in 3rd person view, the kick is hard on liberator and recovery time is stupid long. For some reason this doesn't happen to breaker or defender. Feels like rifle-exclusive thing.
I started using defender because of ballistic shield, then stopped using shield and tried to use liberator, but now I'm back to SMG because of this stupid kick mechanic.

I agree this is why they probably think garbage like auto cannon is good. It's good if you can't aim. Otherwise all robots outside of hulks can be one shotted with a headshot with a normal DMR
i use the penetrator as a side arm and the stalwart as my main gun at lower difficulties. the base rifle's mag is too shallow for clearing chaff but the penetrator's medium piercing justifies it's use if you use something else as your main.
Breaker is great in that you can use it with precision and save ammo or you can delete an entire direction of anything but chargers with a mag dump. Best thing to do is use up Secondary SMG ammo until you actually need the breaker.
Will I get carried by pros if I play as level 10 on tier 4 and 5? Right now i can do either co-op style with a friend, but I feel like i was time by not queuing openly. Could do shit faster with 4 dive buddies.
We got to difficulty 8 with a guy that was rank 8 at the start and 11 by the time we were done. Just carry a precision orbital and you can knock out all the big scary stuff. A guy with a supply backpack and grenade launcher is also nice when taking out base spawns.

Friends betrayed me for cs2, I refuse to play with randoms because it's unplayable. I have close to 100% success rate solo but only like 10% with randoms.
I wasn't able to join any friend games at all earlier. Legitimately I just did a quick mission on my own and then I was able to join no problem. I don't know why or how that would fix things, but it did.

The only reason its meta right now is because armor is fricking broken at the moment. Personally i think our current armor values are actually all at zero. So once that shit is fixed, heavy armor will actually be good agianst bots, and will actually break the fricking shield meta.

The answer is still the breaker. Because the devs put emphisis on hitting weak points, its actually far better just to spam raw damage of the breaker then it is to use armor pen weapons.
I bring the single shot rifle. You have to crouch and stop moving but then you can snipe their heads very easily downing anything but the highest armored guys. I also bring the sniper rifle, it kills armored things and reloads fast and has long range.
Go do bug mission or go to planets that are not being defended.
Unfortunately the resource economy is fricking screwed at the moment because im struggling to find common sample and im sitting on like 200+ rare samples with nothing to do with them.
The meta sweatlord shit is hilarious because you can clear helldive with almost anything as long as you have some tool that can kill heavy armor now and then.
THe issue with the "meta" is that its a compounding issues.
The reason teh meta exists is because morons run off and go play commando rather then work as a team. And guess what, shield, rail, eagle and railcanon let you do that, and since running away from teh team, makes trying to play as a team harder, the only option is to also run the commando build since you 9/10 times will be left on your own.
Its not that the weapons are the best options (Though right now they kinda are) its that it fits the playstyle of shitters who want to run around solo.
the real meta is to know how the game works
if you don't run away from teammates they will ruin the game for you

you can't stay in the field and infinitely kill patrols that respawn every second, you will run out of ammo
you need to do quick hit and run attacks on outposts, clear and occupy them
because patrols don't spawn in outposts
instead when I go do some objective or clear an outpost I always have a teammate arrive to "help" me with 4 chargers and 2 bile titans in tow

What works well against chargers? Was playing and some guy was seemingly using an air strike that was locked on the charger and killed it in one hit. On challenging at least. Couldn't catch the name of the strike.

My currently strategy is spamming anti tank pods because they're on relatively low cooldown and then shooting off their armor. I'm working on the ship upgrade that reduces its cooldown which requires rare samples

Orbital Railcannon is probably one of the best calldowns in game, but only if the entire team runs a few and only for suicide mission+ level stuff.
The biggest cause of failed missions is spending too much time fighting a breach/dropship that spawns heavies + base heavies.
Even if you can kill everything with railgun inevitably it takes a bit too long to burn through the large targets so patrols or new spawns start calling in more reinforcements. Having 4 railcannons lets you immediately turn an extended firefight into a quick clear, and you just play a bit more carefully till its up.
Without coordination though the laser is better for salvaging the shit situations, but you have to play more objective focused since you're limited to 3 per mission, which usually means 1 per major objective.
Orbital railcannon is worse than the Oribital Laser in almost every possible way.
I use Punisher on its ass. Seems to work well.
Dump a few EAT or whatever into the front legs and you'll nuke a majority of it's health, then you can dive left/right and mag dump into it's back to finish it, but for whatever reason it's legs are the weakest part of it
If you're dumping EAT into its front legs you can just shoot the exposed flesh for massive damage
exposed flesh (stuff under armor) takes bonus damage, especially for the Charger. Blowing off armor on the front legs is easiest, since it's charging at you. Recoilless and EAT can blast the armor off in one shot, railgun takes two shots. Then you can easily kill the charger by shooting the exposed flesh on that leg, with some guns it won't even take half a magazine from your primary to do it.
Orbital Railcannon can deal a lot of damage, and the Eagle 110 missiles can also take a good chunk, but they sometimes don't take it out outright. The orbital laser is also an option, but it is mostly killing by burning the charger, and that takes a little longer.
Similarly you can use the flamethrower to kill a charger easily, but more slowly, since it's pretty easy to dodge it's charges. It also has the benefit of letting you kill some small fry while you burn the charger, but again this is a slower method.
Always bring a recoilless rifle on bug missions for that reason. Call it in, and get on the mic and tell one of the tards on your team to help you load it. Alternatively, I've found if you call it in and take the backpack and let one of the morons on your team have the weapon itself, it is more enticing in having them actually help. Then you can forcibly teamload them. A lot of morons don't even know teamloading is a thing on heavy weapons.
As far as stratagems go, the generic orbital is good if you can get the timing down. It comes back quick too, even quicker if you get the 10% cooldown unlock on the ship. People sleep on how good the generic precision orbital strike is. I think people assume it sucks just because you start with it unlocked.
First you need to figure out if you need to run or fight.
On diff 8-9 it's basically pointless to fight them because the game is in a constant glitched state when it spawns chargers nonstop at you and they're immediately aggroed to you.
If you think you can deal with them, the fastest way is 2 rail shots to the leg to scrape armor and then empty half a mag from breaker to finish it. Otherwise you have to play bait and drag bugs away from objective while your friends finish it, hopefully you will be able to break away from them or buy enough time for your friends to finish what they were doing, attract more bugs to fill the spawn quota and they you get rid of chargers 1 by 1 with no new spawns (there will be new spawns but they will spawn on your friends, not you)
Land an EMS strike and follow up. EMS orbital has an incredibly short CD and pretty quick deployment especially if you buffed the firing speed of orbitals.
i tend to use EMS mortar more than standard mortar now just because it won't TK.
this guy takes a lot of hits especially in the weakspots but you used a gun for early game, is that the stalwart or mg? either way weak compared to lvl 10 stratagem guns

EMS is really fricking busted, but its for solo operations against bugs. You drop it on yourself, work the console while everything is stunned, then sprint out and cover your escape with a smoke. That and disabling bug breaches.

You have to destroy the armor on the legs (1/2 shots from the railgun AT or rocketlauncher) and then you can shoot it down in a few shotgun or rifle hits.
Theres a bug where during the charge stop and turning animation the legs are vulnerable to any gun. You need to magdump one leg with machine pistol or breaker to kill in one cycle. I think this only works if youre the host or the guy hosting the game has low latency for you.
Just dive to the side at the last moment he charges if you have aggro so it starts it turning animation. I tried to just run diagonally to its side without diving during the charge to trigger this but it just seems fast enough to track and hit me.

There is nothing completely unique if you've already played a lot of games in the genre, what makes it special is that it's really well executed
The gameplay is fun, you get a really nice selection of weapons, the grind for upgrades entices you to play certain missions but it doesn't feel like you're going to work just to keep up with the game
The game's aesthetic is a really neat tight package as well the player faction and both of the enemy factions are completely distinct from each other but all cool in their own way

Because of the size of the community you have people from every niche in it, lots of normies, returning players from Helldivers 1 and refugees from other games that have gone to shit looking for something new to play
The main gimmick is being able to call down ordinance and support weapons from your ship in low orbit using a, for lack of a better term, DDR style code to pick what you're calling in and toss it, calling down various orbital strikes, or eagle strafing runs.
It's whacky old video game style bullshit where the mechanics are solid but anything can happen. Coop multiplayer, solid gunplay, dynamic progressions that are relevant to the lore. It's just fun.

You sacrifice a backpack slot for no tangible benefit. It's supposed to be mobile cover against small arms fire and you still get shot from the front by small arms fire. It's fricking moronic.
I'm guessing it uses the same armor stats the armors are using, which are bugged and not implemented properly.
The riot shield completely nullifies any of the red laser projectiles that hit it besides tanks shots. The problem is that its hitbox is 1:1 to its model. It will only protect you from the front, and your exposed firing arm can still be hit.
So it is yet another example of a strategem that is completely outclassed by another? As in there is no practical reason to ever use it over the personal shield gen? So fricking disappointing.
I figure the design between the two should have been temporary protection from all angles for the one and consistent protection from one angle for the other. But the riot shield doesn't even do that. It's literally just a useless trap.

It's also frontal, does not protect you from aoe, limits your weapon loadout, and you drop it if you ragdoll. Meanwhile the personal shield gen lets you soak a Helbomb and it won't even be depleted after.

As a Helldivers 1 player, I think most of you just don't understand that the only reason there is even a "meta" is that everything right now in Helldivers 2 is very, very limited to what was available in HD1. It's not just mechs (though there were three kinds of mechs), it also APC, HAV, motorcycle, tank, repair tool, manual mortar, c4, toxic avenger, shredder missles, distractor beacon, etc, etc, etc. And that's just stratagems. There's also about a dozen weapons primary weapons missing, as well. Couple that all with the fact that there isn't even a real upgrade system for any of the stratagems and weapons.
And on top of that, not being able to select multiple of the same loadout hurts the low level stratagems. Maybe napalm might not be so bad if I could run more than one? Some gays in these threads like to go "MUH 4 500KG," even though no one went 4 shreddar missiles in HD1 which were better than the 500kg. But honestly someone loading out with 4 500kg bombs would still be more interesting than the railgun/shield/orbital railcannon/500kg load that everyone uses. Aiming a 500kg is actually much more tougher to aim and takes more skill than a hitscan railgun with a frickton of ammo, that's for sure.

How do you make something like napalm as good as an option as the cluster bomb? Even if you gave it the same number of uses as the cluster bomb, the cluster bomb just does a better job at clearing. Napalm is useful because it seals off a lane of attack with fire, and you really need to seal off more than one lane at a time to make it worth more than just blowing up an area with a cluster bomb.

This is the only real option. Right now enemies just ignore fire because of braindead AI. But in HD1 enemies would walk around the first (which is why you need to seal multiple lanes at the same time). But maybe dumber AI is a feature of HD2. But if they ever make enemies account for fire, then more damage and effective against armor is a moot point.

HD1 was abysmally bad about metacucking, and attempting to claim otherwise is literal insanity.
After all the fixes the game got very unstable. I have basically 50% chance of crashing when I minimize the game.
Oh and also I really can't be bothered to finish a mission when I can see that morons on my team will teamkill me and fail to extract, or will go to extraction as soon as I finish objective on the other side of the map. I can't be bothered helping them finish the mission if they have no intention of collecting samples. Sure I wouldn't quit if entire team weren't buttholes, but since they fixed quick play I only get matched with chinks and always have bad experience. I even tried going duo with my moronic friend who can't handle shit past diff 5, but I barely managed to complete one mission because he always gets desynced, disconnects, can't call stratagems, etc. and half the time I simply get stuck on deployment animation.

I don't struggle with it, it's more that I can't count how many times someone's dumped people in the middle of blobs only for them to get completely fricked over because they aren't actually bothering to shoot the 2 locations of interests, bug breach, and hive that they collected into one area. Also couldn't tell you how many times people run in front of others who are shooting or intentionally run into stratagems that someone chucked

Railgun should have 10 shots. Would make unsafe more viable. Unsafe shots should strip charger armor immediately instead of still requiring 2 shots (it does). This thing should feel dangerous to use and scary, not just an instant threat deleter
No, the railgun should have a backpack. The fact that you can quickly reload it on the move already makes it extremely portable - not requiring some kind of backpack battery pushes it over the top. The only downside it has is that it doesn't count as explosive, making it ineffective against buildings and weak spots.
Making it require a backpack would break the Railgun/Shieldeta and give it some actual downsides compared to the AMR.

A simple solution to improve gear choice at higher levels is to implement weapon upgrading / modifying so more are viable and you can use the weapon of choice rather than what works best. Not jutst increasing numbers but functionality, eg upgrade to armor piercing / incediary etc that sort of thing.

why does every co-op game get second-hand metagays that don't even experiment themselves to see what's effective but complain about the weapon balance being bad because some weapons are popular? it isn't enough they they blindly follow the meta, they have to complain about "needing" to follow the meta despite never trying the other options themselves.
It's a pervading disease that never got enough attention, so here we are now. They'll solely use a weapon with a 0.003% advantage over another weapon explicitly because of that 0.003%, even though the two may be completely identical according to end result. Many won't even acknowledge that there really isn't a difference between the two.
But I have, all the way up to 9, and at 8-9 if you bring a funny meme build it's basically a self-imposed handicap for the extra challenge. Hulks basically become footsoldiers so good luck deleting them with your las scythe or your Flamethrower. If you have fun in 5 or 6 that's fine, but it's kinda disappointing to frick around all the way up to 7 and then the game starts funneling you into using very noticeable outliers.

hulks are piss poor easy cause even anti material destroys them in 2 hits. Automatons in general are much easier than bugs, even tank dies in a single impact grenade and pretty much cant hit you if you just jump on top of it. Eh, it's more of a battle of attrition and a patrol dodging minigame. Bots meanwhile are almost all armour (which again limits your loadout), rocket devastators sniping you from across the map, jammers, artilleries, 1HKO turrets that are extremely annoying to take down and detector towers that can just bug out on you.
Because the balancing for most of the weapons and gear is beyond trash right now. If you take the bad shit you're not just hindering the team, you're actively going to have a bad time just from how little you contribute to anything (something you would realise if you actually played the game)
Some of the shit just overlaps too much, why use a 3 minute cooldown Gatling when you could have a Clusterbomb aitstrike? Both kill fodder, clusterbomb will absolutely get you more fodder kills. I think you can call down 5 clusterbombs, and still rearm and get it back before the gatling is back up since with ship upgrades the Eagle Rearm is 2 minutes.
Any of the warbond weapons good? Just got the breaker and I don't like it.
Liberator Penetrator is decent against robots.
Incendiary shotgun is bretty gud against bugs.

I like the marksman rifle. It's shots go through enemies, so even though it has only like 8 bullets per magazine, you can get a hit on multiple enemies. Plus, it one taps small bugs and low rank bots.

yues, you can switch to a first person shooting mode. You can also set it up to remember your aiming mode so some weapons will always use first person (good for scoped weapons) or you can set it up that tapping the ADS button will go first person and holding will be normal aiming.

You can hit mmb to swap between the two and hitting R while not aiming lets you swap fire rates, the flashlight, and scope range if the gun has it

Ah yes shitty game decisions like better and more fun to use guns as you progress in difficulty, the game requiring strategy to win each mission, with certain classes being god tier on certain missions and shit on others, and a huge range of weapons to use on each class depending on your style (which also balance around certain enemies)
The one falsity about EDF is that you have to grind, but it’s not true. Experts showed me how to exploit positioning relative to spawns and using the npcs properly to help you win. I completed INFERNO on 5 with about 4-5k hp, which you can pick up easily just playing with all the classes. It’s a great game and well designed

first, check your settings. if you are set to friends only you cannot have randoms join. second, you need to select a mission before it flags your ship for joining. then people join, then you launch the pods. or you can join other missions on the map if you don't want to host.

Which is better, the Plasma or the not-Bolter?
Trying to decide which Warbond to maxx first now that I have both.
The scorcher plasma rifle is insane vs cyborgs, it 2-shots walkers from the front, 1-shots the little guys, handles very well and has low recoil. It’s one of the best primaries in the game for cyborgs but most people haven’t unlocked it so it’s not meta yet.
The dominator is mid at best, it handles like shit and the slugger does everything it does better with more ammo economy.
The bolter does more damage per shot but has massive recoil and will ricochet off any armor it doesn't penetrate. It doesn't have an AoE, it just counts as explosive damage - the ricochet means it can't actually hurt the vents on tanks, hulks, or cannon towers. However, it can apparently kill hulks by shooting the eye slit.
The sorcher does less damage per shot but always explodes on impact and does some actual AoE. This means it can kill tanks, hulks, and cannon towers by shooting their vents, requiring about a full magazine to destroy this way. It can also kill scout striders with three shots to the front armor, since the explosion reaches through the visor despite the actual shots not penetrating. The explosion also means that kills spore trees in four hits and pops multiple egg clusters per shot giving it some nice utility.
I prefer the Scorcher as a general-purpose weapon, though be advised it will kill you with the explosion it generates if you try to shoot in melee or the bullet hits the cover you're behind.

The breaker is fun if you want to make the game as boring as possible. Every other gun requires some sort of recoil management, range management, etc while the breaker just deletes everything short to long range with no recoil. It’s massively overpowered and trivializes the game.

Nah, lose 2 mags and its balanced. The problem with Slugger, with medium pen and slower fire rate, is its like 60 shots TOTAL. Breaker is like 100 shots total.
The ARs need like 10 bullets extra in each mag. Snipers/DMR need to break armor off after 4 shots on a charger compared to Railguns 2.
The DMR needs to be where the AMR currently is, and the AMR needs to be where the Autocannon currently is (minus AoE).
The Slugger is your sniper rifle that can kill Hulks and the Scorcher is your battle rifle that can also kill Hulks.
Slugger, scorcher, and defender are also pretty good but yeah everything else is just handicapping yourself.

Can you not cancel Railgun shots? Swapping to another gun when I've already started charging makes the shot go off at swap.

i still dont understand how you are supposed to clear missions where you need to save civilians, its impossible to use map clearing weapons because you kill them and bots keep spawning on top of you, how is that fair
Smoke strikes help but the only times I’ve beaten those missions are with a squad who can use the recoilless rifle flawlessly to kill dropships. Then the rest of the squad spams mortars and smokes. I haven’t beaten the mission at anything higher than 7 though.

Drop outside the base, one guy fricks off to press buttons and the other 3 bait dropships outside. Sometimes the dropships start spawning in the base, leave the base to "reset" and then go back in. Bring personal shield gen, railgun, EMS mortar, etc.
one guy stealths in the base near the doors, the rest of the team runs to the edge of the map with mortar and stun spam. done a few helldiver wins like that

Why is the railgun so OP? There's no reason to use much else once you've got it. The game is hard enough at 7+. I enjoyed the mechanics of the recoilless or even AMR. Buff it. Stalwart should be a primary. Breaker is clear and away the best Primary, unless Stalwart was bumped down.

I prefer EAT for heavies but I still end up using railgun over it just because taking down medium targets like the walkers is annoying. EAT obliterates tanks with 2 hits to armored parts or 1 direct hits to weak points, EAT 1 shots bile titans if you make them EAT a rocket, EAT blows off charger armor with no real need to aim it or outright kills them if you blow 2 on one. effects like call down time +100% just make EAT worse in a lot of situations at higher difficulties since it's something you call on demand.
I just tested MM and it was working.

So does this still have queue issues on PC? Or is it fixed? I don't know if my PC can run this at non-eyesore quality, so I can't afford to waste the Steam refund 2 hour time limit on queues.
It's mostly fixed. Might come back during peak hours this weekend. The last 3 days I load in instantly every single time. The 3 days prior I had to wait about an hour, then about an average of like 5-15 mins. Not counting the times I joined a friend's squad, which had a much better success rate.
Last night the dev said they managed to raise the limit to 700k concurrent players.
You shouldn't play this game on PC anyway because the anticheat is a literal trojan. Get it on PS5 or don't get it at all.

Honestly the base assault rifle is probably the best one. Accurate, decent damage and doesn't chew through ammo like the breaker. Good for gunning down the chaff, everything bigger than that gets a rail gun to the face or an orbital laser.

The SMG is literally superior in every way. Despite having a lower RoF, it does more DPS.

Don't know if it applies to aim down sight mode, but when you get hit while aiming in 3rd person view, the kick is hard on liberator and recovery time is stupid long. For some reason this doesn't happen to breaker or defender. Feels like rifle-exclusive thing.
I started using defender because of ballistic shield, then stopped using shield and tried to use liberator, but now I'm back to SMG because of this stupid kick mechanic.

I agree this is why they probably think garbage like auto cannon is good. It's good if you can't aim. Otherwise all robots outside of hulks can be one shotted with a headshot with a normal DMR
i use the penetrator as a side arm and the stalwart as my main gun at lower difficulties. the base rifle's mag is too shallow for clearing chaff but the penetrator's medium piercing justifies it's use if you use something else as your main.

9mm is "higher caliber" than 7.62
Breaker is great in that you can use it with precision and save ammo or you can delete an entire direction of anything but chargers with a mag dump. Best thing to do is use up Secondary SMG ammo until you actually need the breaker.

Will I get carried by pros if I play as level 10 on tier 4 and 5? Right now i can do either co-op style with a friend, but I feel like i was time by not queuing openly. Could do shit faster with 4 dive buddies.
We got to difficulty 8 with a guy that was rank 8 at the start and 11 by the time we were done. Just carry a precision orbital and you can knock out all the big scary stuff. A guy with a supply backpack and grenade launcher is also nice when taking out base spawns.
I still need to buy shrapnel to make the AOE better, but thanks for the suggestion!

I wasn't able to join any friend games at all earlier. Legitimately I just did a quick mission on my own and then I was able to join no problem. I don't know why or how that would fix things, but it did.

The only reason its meta right now is because armor is fricking broken at the moment. Personally i think our current armor values are actually all at zero. So once that shit is fixed, heavy armor will actually be good agianst bots, and will actually break the fricking shield meta.
The helmet is bugged and currently provides extra speed/stamina but reduces armor rating. And since armor rating is also bugged...

The answer is still the breaker. Because the devs put emphisis on hitting weak points, its actually far better just to spam raw damage of the breaker then it is to use armor pen weapons.

No, im being 100% serious as someone who plays purely against automatons and never touched a single bug mission.
I bring the single shot rifle. You have to crouch and stop moving but then you can snipe their heads very easily downing anything but the highest armored guys. I also bring the sniper rifle, it kills armored things and reloads fast and has long range.

Unfortunately the resource economy is fricking screwed at the moment because im struggling to find common sample and im sitting on like 200+ rare samples with nothing to do with them.
Blitz is for sample farming. Sneak around the map for 15 minutes clearing points of interest and emergency extracting once the time runs out.
The meta sweatlord shit is hilarious because you can clear helldive with almost anything as long as you have some tool that can kill heavy armor now and then.
THe issue with the "meta" is that its a compounding issues.
The reason teh meta exists is because morons run off and go play commando rather then work as a team. And guess what, shield, rail, eagle and railcanon let you do that, and since running away from teh team, makes trying to play as a team harder, the only option is to also run the commando build since you 9/10 times will be left on your own.
Its not that the weapons are the best options (Though right now they kinda are) its that it fits the playstyle of shitters who want to run around solo.
the real meta is to know how the game works
if you don't run away from teammates they will ruin the game for you

you can't stay in the field and infinitely kill patrols that respawn every second, you will run out of ammo
you need to do quick hit and run attacks on outposts, clear and occupy them
because patrols don't spawn in outposts
instead when I go do some objective or clear an outpost I always have a teammate arrive to "help" me with 4 chargers and 2 bile titans in tow
