There is a "game master" named Joel on the dev team. His title is literally game master. His job is to micromanage the war. So he ultimately decided the course of the war. Winning too fast? He will just change the liberation percent. Lost a planet? Its ok nothing is in danger because the game master will give it back
I'll dickride a little bit, they're not realistically going to make 2 separate versions of anything and only release one of them, that would be a huge waste of resources for something most people won't appreciate. Plus, the first major update was probably already begun being worked on before the game even released, that's how live service games have to be to avoid a long drought after release. The military just points you at problems, gives you carrot and stick objectives, and lets nature take it's course.

In this game, they pool the best candidates from the SEAF into the Helldiver Corps. They are the elite soldiers; but there are billions of bugs and robots. In the first Great War at least 13 million Helldivers died. Cloning brings up so many questions of cost, training, etc. The best option, is there are tens of millions of bodies and highly motivated recruits.
You do understand in every major conflict in human history it has been fought by normal people, seeing millions of people dying in wars is more then natural, it's what happens. If you join the military right now, you are expendable. Especially if a war was being fought.
That's why in this game the DEFAULT setting is to randomize your voice. Everyone wears the same armour, because on YOUR ship, that is your 'Division'. That's the uniform all the men wear. The only difference is they are deployed one at a time, instead of unthawing all the thousands of reinforcements on the ship. Because this division of yours needs to last throughout the war, not just for a single battle or two.

This is how I thought of it as well. Each ship is its own multi-diver 'organism' that joins with other diver-destroyers to take on objectives. When you join lobbies your ship basically sends an envoy-diver to connect with the others.

Your liberation contribution isn't affected by difficulty. You affect the liberation effort just by the quantity of missions you accomplish, within an operation.
I just tested this. A full helldivers mission will only award your ass 0.0003% for the 3 missions you do, and doing a medium operation of 2 missions gives you 0.0002%. the difficulty doesn't affect it at all, lower end players are contributing the same amount as players doing helldive.
Considering how ball grindingly difficulty 7+ missions are and how much they drag on, you can easily complete a handful of medium operations in the time it takes to do 3 helldive missions. And it will mean you've contributed more to the liberation overall.
I think that needs to be fixed because now I don't want to do top difficulty missions anymore.
Do you know the most insulting part you may be upset to find out? you find SIGNIFICANTLY more super credits in lower difficulty missions than you ever do in helldive and it's less of a pain in the ass
The only reason to do high difficulty missions is to farm medals and requisition points, and both of those stop mattering at level 30.
If you want to farm super credits then just play on medium, because you'll find them everywhere.

Super samples are too hard to acquire. Even when you know how to look for them, they're still unicorns locked behind shitty difficulties that spawn heavies out your butthole.

Its literally a specific rock that stands out. Its not that hard anon just look around and you'll see them easily. Plus you can always run and sneak if you are scared of the mean buggies
My issue is that I don't farm enough common and rare samples. Once I have enough it only takes a few suicide missions to get 10 supers, not sure why you're having issues.

Eagle Airstrike is currently my fav, why:

I saw it on my first deployment when some brit I played with, rekt a bug pit in one blast. I was in love there and then.
I had brief romantic slings with 500kg bomb and napalm, but the vanilla airstrike is still my regular girl. It just works on everything (bugs / robots) so well and is practically always available.

I agree. I will say, orbital stratagems are better than people give credit for. They need to be way better, though. 380mm artillery would be so much better if it was laser designated rather than thrown. You literally can't throw the fricking pokeball far enough to not be in range of the opening volley. I love the idea of artillery in this game, mainly because of just how much SHIT can be shooting at you on bot missions. But they're just bad. I've killed a lot more teammates than anything else with it. Any time I see somebody bring it I'm playing paranoid as frick because I'm anticipating them throwing it with 0 warning and nuking the squad.
I agree with this. Orbital Strike is still amazing although its cooldown is too long considering how little ooomph it has compared to the other stratagems.
However, Orbital strike still has the best sound design in the game. The "off-in-the-distance" phmmpf firing sound and then the awesome cratering explosion sure makes it feel like something powerful just hit the AO. I literally take it for this reason even though I know it is thoroughly outclassed by Eagle airstrike in every sense.
I'm a strange Helldiver I know, but I use Orbital Strike very well on higher difficulties and am a valuable member of the team!!

I'd much rather have the MGer haul an extra belt of ammo. If he wants to be able to help against chargers, he can just unlock impact grenades. 3-4 will kill one most of the time.

Autocanon on side and behind. Destroy the armor so light weapon can shoot on the wound
Railgun.
Railgun to the same leg. Once the armor is broken switch to normal weapons and blast the weakened leg. Autocannon bounces off the plate. You can dive out of the way and break the tail but it takes way more ammo and work.

You're aiming wrong. It takes two shots, one to the front and one to the back of the same leg. If you see blue sparks it's deflecting and doing 0 damage.
3 direct auto shots to their pooper will make then drop, you'll know its dead when its ass explodes
Its not efficient, but the anti-material rifle works so long as another helldiver kites it. Dont try to be cute, the second you see its soft ass you mag dump the whole clip into its ass. Usually two mags will do it, usually less if another anon is doing it.
I'm an old school Helldivers 1 player so I still use EATs like its going out of style, but Railgun is still the best tool for the job on these guys. Make sure you set it to dangerous mode too.

trailblazer helmet gives you less armour + more stam/speed, and the heavy dynamo helmet gives you more armour but less stam/speed

In a word, yes. But you can do more than just adding 200 bugs and calling it a day. You'd also dress it up as lore, or even tweak enemy patterns. Have more of the reinforcement enemies, and have them on high alert, or even have them attacking you instead of you attacking them

iirc they were pretty tanky frickers. Their units and outposts had shields that you had to take down before you could actually destroy their buildings. They also have some units that can go invisible like the stalkers

I'm okay with Railgun and Shield being a good solo strat or a strat if you're playing with randoms. But I think teamwork starts should always be better. The autocannon/Recoilless Rifle tandem should be superior
Teamwork with the RR will kill anything in the game extremely quickly but the big problem is that it's incredibly ammo-hungry compared to the railgun. IIRC an ammo box only gives one rocket and a resupply box gives three, while the railgun gets like ten shots per box and does almost the same damage as the RR.

I've been doing galaxy wide SOS beacons all day on diff7, it's really a shltshow, sometimes it's smooth, sometimes I get dropped into a swarm of 6 bile titans with no reinforcements left.
Too hard, hell even at 6 you can just not get folk. 7+ is for friends because it can easily go to shit
Been doing 5's or below the last few days for easier rare sample runs. Now, all I have left are Super Sample upgrades so I need to do 7 or higher. Will always make a point of o/-ing when I join, so, see you around.
I don't play 7-9 because 90% enemies having heavy armor invalidates the majority of the guns and stratagems, and I don't want to be forced to use the same gear every time because it gets boring. A few runs of suicide mission made me realize I'm not interested in running railgun+shield+railcannon every game.

I mean, a small non-publicly traded video game company selling 5 million copies at $35 a pop through Steam is a great achievement. Assuming steam cuts/fees, that around $150 million USD of near instant cash flow over 1-2 weeks for a game that really didn't spend a lot on marketing / advertising.
Hiring 500 losers to bloat the payrolls by $50M USD PER YEAR does nothing to the quality of the game and just makes it extremely likely that Helldivers 3 will be about transgender BLM activists nuking MAGA scum and fail miserably...

these types of AA and indie companies are predominately led by people who love games, not businessmen who actually crunch numbers and shit. they come into success using game development & talent management skills, and then they look at what other successful studios have done and decide to copy them. it's cargo cult behavior basically.

The default voice setting is random because it's supposed give the impression that every time you die a new Helldiver is being deployed for their 15 minutes of glory after the previous one failed. Honestly nearly everything in the game is based around how little Super Earth cares about the lives of the Helldivers, the idea that they'd prefer to put tons of money into cloning rather than just recruit from citizens is some gargantuan level cope that either is based on pure self-serving ego or an attempt at 'logic' that ignores the game not giving as singular shit about anything beyond rule of cool and political satire. I'd be quicker to believe Super Earth lying that they'll 'totally clone you bro' than that they'd hide that knowledge. Whose going to get mad about it? Why keep it a secret? Capitalism is the Religion of Super Earth and everyone believes in the God known as Warbonds and his Testament of Supercredits.
I just don't care about what headcanon idiots conjure up when it contradicts reality. Through the opening cutscene, the tutorial, the biggest inspiration the series draws from, the default vocal option and just every other little cue the game gives you, the reality should be clear to anybody.
If somebody lands on the conclusion that cloning is involved anywhere you can probably assume they don't understand why they shouldn't flush disposable wet wipes down the toilet.

So is this like every other co-op horde type game where there's a ton of unique fun gear but if you want to succeed on the highest difficulty you can only use the most boring and straightforward efficient options and everything else will get you killed? Or is there some actual semblance of "balance" where the more specialized/high-risk stuff actually has sufficient payoff to be viable?
The former but I don't really see the problem with that, if you want to frick around with less viable gear there is content for that, the hardest difficulties should require min maxing

They just need to:
(1) Fix the spear's aiming and give more rockets or at least give it more rockets on resupply. They treat the damn thing like it's amazing. Only 4 shots total, resups only give +1 rocket. Meanwhile, the damn thing doesn't aim right, even nailing a tank behind or a hulk behind it STILL doesn't kill them, and it takes a backpack and power weapon slot. It fricking sucks as is.
(2) Make the recoilless rifle do more damage. I don't care what anyone says, nailing a weak spot on a charger, hulk, tank, etc. with the RR should be an instant kill. At least, it should take 90% of the health off of hulks/tanks and still kill chargers.
(3) Make teamloading an option regardless of who has the backpack. As long as somebody has it, you may teamload.

Is there a decent way to farm some of these god damn common samples because holy frick I literally only have the Orbital Bombardment Shrapnel one unlocked and I'm level 15.
And the worst part is I barely use the fricking thing, Air Strikes seem to be the play. I might try that Orbital Walking one because at least that one can be aimed so maybe I can use it to close some bug holes or toss it at my feet while being chased.

It seems like it's intended more to a be a physics/"movie realism" centric game of emergent action, cool moments and funny deaths where you're GM'd along an intergalactic war scenario and play mainly for the gameplay itself. But the vast majority of the mainstream gamer community is seeing this as a very competitive game based on loot extraction, DPS, leaderboards, stat analysis and "builds"? IDK I just kinda get that vibe, I hope they'd stick to the original vision and don't cave to the Destiny 2 immigrants
