The entry fee to PC gaming is higher, but in the long run it isn't that much more expensive if it all. All those hidden costs on consoles are real. Haven and hearth went to shit many many years ago. I remember playing that back in school like a decade ago, if not more, then they made some massive update or engine swap or whatever was that and the game was never the same. Also it played like a total grindfest browser game and I wouldn't bother with that kind of shit now. Surprised to hear it's still online though, one would think they'd be long gone by now.
Illwinter Game Design is still solid enough for me to pay them around $30-40 for slightly better Conquest of Elysium and Dominions every three years or so.

Funny thing is that you're probably spending close to that on consoles, just over a longer period of time. PCs require a higher initial cost, but games are frequently discounted (or can be pirated), there's no membership fee, and remastered games are unnecessary.

because the idea of sony re listing all games from all their legacy home consoles requires official licensing. it's the same thing that microsoft does with back compat. except the problem is a lot of the devs/publishers for those old games no longer exist or rights have been broken up or shared about since then. so it's literally impossible. xbox back compat has the same problems. they couldn't relicense jsrf for example because of expired music licensing. it took them like 10 years just to get goldeneye on modern consoles because of how the rights are split between 3 parties, and in the end it's not even a purchasable game, you can only play it as part of gamepass on xbox or NSO on switch.

because the idea of sony re listing all games from all their legacy home consoles requires official licensing. it's the same thing that microsoft does with back compat. except the problem is a lot of the devs/publishers for those old games no longer exist or rights have been broken up or shared about since then. so it's literally impossible. xbox back compat has the same problems. they couldn't relicense jsrf for example because of expired music licensing. it took them like 10 years just to get goldeneye on modern consoles because of how the rights are split between 3 parties, and in the end it's not even a purchasable game, you can only play it as part of gamepass on xbox or NSO on switch.

PC has always been the enthusiast product. Tinkering and tweaking and optimizing has always been a hobby, not something you just buy from a store.
However, now that pre-builts are becoming more and more (dare I say) competent in their builds I can understand how PC has more appeal now.
There will always be a place for consoles, but the freedom PC offers cannot be replicated by a locked box.

I use my PC in big picture with a controller. I just like that I can play games at 120fps on 120Hz 4K TV and also Steam games are cheap as frick and you can play all those old games via emulators or just old releases. Want to play LittleBigPlanet 2 on PS5? Lol no says Snoy
