this. Ian and Dogmeat will save your ass in the first third of the game.
good luck keeping them both alive in the endgame though, lol.

if you really looked up a guide you'd find out that you can use explosive at the entrance of the cave to cause a cave in, instakilling all scorpions inside and finishing the quest

Why the frick are you playing a character-growth RPG if you're not prepared to require more experience for something? Go and play a game with level scaling. Conveniently Bethesda dumbed the series down for you.

Bro thought oldschool rpg were like skyrim where everything is always at your same level regardless of wherever you go

that's a uh, interesting starting build you got there bud. with those stats you're probably better off just trying to punch the rats rather than shooting them. also I've only played 1 once so I'm not exactly super well versed in build diversity, but I gotta say playing with anything other than max agi sounds awful. agi is 1:1 your action points, so less agi = less moves

          not everyone is gifted, lmao

There are other traits outside of Gifted and if you are so afraid of negatives just pick Bloody Mess for fun. Fallout has very satisfying kill animations.

While this build is clearly not min maxed it is good enough to clear the game.

Literally anything. Fallout 1 is piss easy and the only way you can frick your build is by having negative Agility.

Anything with high agility and high intelligence is a good build, in F1 tagging energy weapons is good since turbo plasma is by far the best gun in the game. But F1 is very easy compared to F2 so you can do literally anything, fast shot works with melee weapons so you can swing at 1AP as example.

I went with energy weapons, science and lockpick.
Energy weapons are uselss early on so I struggled and had to put some points in guns, but like I said, Ian and Dogmeat carried me. Late game though it's a god tier skill. Two 95% eye shots a turn with the turbo plasma is OP as hell.
Science seemed absolutely useless aside from letting you bypass the final boss.
Lockpick is just as useful as the newer fallout games if not more so.

You can find find alien blaster within first minute of the game with minimal save scumming.

Notice that you lack sufficient agility. Consider using some drugs to enhance it. Additionally, you can shoot and then quickly retreat from the location. Employ tactics such as hiding first and then initiating a fight; this grants you the first attack and allows you to escape from the location afterwards. Since it is very dark, and there are significant debuffs for shooting, use flashlights to illuminate the room and throw them at the enemy. Don't forget to activate them before engaging.

Also keep distance between you and your opponent, use multiple moves to move away from the enemy.

I'm still level 1. If agility is as important as people say I might as well start over and dump everything on it. Didn't know about Darkness debuff. Honestly, maybe I should read the manual.

You don't need it. Instead, you can simply take a companion who might draw the enemies onto themselves, or use consumables like jet

Just keep doing it until RNG doesn't frick you in the ass.
You can then proceed with the rest of the game without dying TOO often. It's a Top-Down RPG, it's how they are played, the initial hurdle is quite difficult, but you'll get there. good luck OP.

Aggro one enemy at a time when you are low level. Basically, wait for them to separate then aggro one and run back. Positioning is insanely important to avoid taking unnecessary damage.

Oh nice a classic Fallout thread
I'm playing through 2 and I'm getting filtered hard by the quests
it seems the 3d fallouts held your hand and placed waypoints or floating markers, but kept a journal for quests in the pipboy
On the other hand you have FO2 where the only clues you get to completing a quest is a short 'go complete x at a city' without anything attached to it hinting at what to do next, so if you stop playing for a couple of days you have no fricking clue where you were at; and this is only one glaring issue.
This and the shit UI really has me on the fence about these old games, they really feel like a slog most of the time and I think most people say they're good through nostalgia goggles.
They are good when comparing the new Fallouts, but compared to other newer, polished CRPGs they feel very poor and it's mostly frustrating to play, however they are not without charm and the setting was new and interesting at the time I guess.

Comparing Fallout 2 to Baldur's Gate 3 is only a little insane. The "stop pedplaying for a few days and forgot what my quest log is about" is such a personal problem that devs rightly ignored back then. Consider taking notes, forgetful-ass.
