WoW is just outdated as fuck and it doesn't even leverage the one strength it might have, which is a strong social scene. I haven't played an MMO since TBC but to me it seems like 14 succeeds where WoW fails because it panders to terminally online weirdos who only get their socialization online.

there's a big gaping hole in the market in my opinion. As soon as someone comes out with a co-op type game (with or without pvp) that is structured to play online with others but doesn't require autistic raids and scheduling shit (basically no poopsock loser shit), it will do gangbusters.
Basically if someone did something big budget like Mass Effect 3's multiplayer on a bigger scale. I think The Division 1 was getting pretty close, which is why from 1.6 onwards the game was growing and growing (until TD2 and it's autismo raids and less content than 1) killed it.
I'm not sure there's a gaping hole, because online socialization doesn't need a platform like WoW anymore.
You've got, on the one hand, a fuckload of social media, as well as discord, and on the other, you've got fortnite and co (roblox, destiny 2) that serve as kind of an MMO lite where you can hang with your friends.

At first I thought I understood it, I started playing around the not underwater zone release of BFA and every week from then on my character got stronger, with more haste came more damage but also a more dynamic gameplay. This continued and got added to throughout the cthulhu patch when I also got corruptions that did insane damage. The game seemed good and fun, but then the new expansion was released and initially I bought and played it, only to realize that all the items I had earned through raids and dungeons were disabled or had their stats reduced to an insane degree. What the fuck is fun about that? All the things you've worked for taken away for what, so you can do it again? And you have to pay Blizzard hundreds of dollars for this privilege?
