the "intent" was not to make a game that looked like clay. The intent was to have simple, clear sprites, which is what we got. The clay art is just a reference
Let's look at original art for the game. >https://mother4ever.net/art-mother/
The link contains scans from the manual, wherein you can see original artwork. As well as the strategy guide with more original artwork. And more publications with even more art.
In all the original art, you never see Ninten with that gay-ass scarf. Because that was only featured in the commercial. Also, you never see him with a red white and blue striped shirt. Because again, that's a commercial feature. So this mock-up here is using commercial Ninten. Not only that, they made his hair longer and floofier. So it curls up. Making him look even more fem. And his shorts are practically painted onto his legs, instead of being baggy. Adding up all these details, the scarf, the floofy hair, and tight shorts, Ninten looks like a little gay boyscout. When he's supposed to be more of a rough looking sporty kid.
As for ana: literally every aspect of her character is wrong. And she isn't even consistent with the commercial depiction. They just fully got everything wrong.
As for the overall style, in every official depiction of the characters, they have all 5 fingers. So I don't know why they have balls for hands here. I'm guessing it's just laziness on artist's part. Because I know how tricky modelling and rigging hands can be. So I can totally seem him avoiding that labor.
And their feet are supposed to be long and floppy.
Overall, this is a cute little piece of fan art. And I normally wouldn't judge it so harshly. But it falls short of being faithful for a remake.
No. And I didn't know she wears a hat. However, you have informed me that she wears a hat. So now I know she wears a hat. Thank you.
Other aspects of her design are still wrong however. I wasn't basing my entire assessment on her hat.

I played 2 and 3 like most people with taste would. Playing 1 is only for fandom bragging rights.

Shut up Black person you didn't play it
You're just quoting what your favorite eceleb has probably said about it

I'm actually quoting real Mother 1 fan opinions I've gathered over the years.
>I am unable to play and admire a piece of media considering the time-window when it was released and what it did for the genre back then
Please, be a troll... but you're most likely a zoomer...
I'm actually older than Mother 1. There are a lot of old games I'm willing to give a chance and enjoy. Mother 1 isn't one of them, due to the aforementioned reasons.

>These "people" are voicing their "opinions" here...
>shadows all over the fricking place despite the window on the left hand side >lack of contrasting shadows in general >door scale is completely fricked relative to the rest of the scene >if this was on Switch hardware it'd lack AA and be running at a blurry 640p while barely keeping 30fps
Yeah, but Mother 1 needs a fricking remake, and that's what OP's pic is. It has some neat stuff in it, but it just doesn't hold up like the other two games do.
I'd be okay with that. Basically, I'd put this on the radar so we could eventually get a Mother 3 remake that gives us as much of the cut content from the 64 version as possible. The GBA version is a castrated 10 hour summary of a 60 hour game, with all features and atmosphere gutted.
I really hope that if we get a remake, it isn't with these sterile camera angles reminiscent of how it looked on GBA. The N64 version actually tried to look cinematic, and this would be a chance to actually get it right.
That's wrong. Look here. There's this glitched location in BotW, whereby standing in a tiny nook in this specific wall, Link's cel shading comes undone. Without cel shading, you can see he is about as smooth and detailed as the Mother 3 fan video.
Or, you could just use Link's Awakening's graphics. Animal Crossing New Horizons also has good looking interiors, but I think those are baked over the course of a second or two (not a problem for prebaked static interiors)
remakes aren't participation trophies
"needing" a remake probably means it doesn't "deserve" a remake
and in this case, yeah, it absolutely does not deserve a remake
If only it was like the Dragon’s Trap remake that would let me switch between the new and old visuals and music on the fly (or at the very least the music).
Honestly would be KINO, it'd be a waste not to have those models in-battle, though, could make something like 3D Dragon Quest where the monster from the party PoV is there during your turn but you see the characters when they attack.
I'd play it
>that Anna
Sex
name one thing wrong with this
and use technical arguments, if you can't explain what "le soul" is then it's meaningless
its soulful, im the op btw
Argument dismissed
The intended art style was claylike so there's absolutely nothing wrong if they remade the games like this. They've already made Dream Course clay.
INTENDED ART STYLES ARE LAZY
I WANT GRAPHICS
FRICK YOU
You are the reason the medium is dying and pushing movieslop
At least those games have good graphics.
Beats playing something that would be in an episode of mr rogers neighborhood or gumby.
Do you still watch mr bill too?
>gumby.
Don't you dare speak his name you no-taste goblin.
You sound like someone who actually likes the creations of the unreal engine "hire this man" man.
>INTENDED ART STYLES ARE LAZY
moron
>intended art style
Was it intended or was it promo material?
the "intent" was not to make a game that looked like clay. The intent was to have simple, clear sprites, which is what we got. The clay art is just a reference
The character faces are overly detailed and grotespque, not cute at all
It lacks soul
blurry shit

But Ana does wear a hat in the game...sure after a certain point but it's for most of the game.
OK. So she wears a hat.
Did you even play the damn game?
No. And I didn't know she wears a hat. However, you have informed me that she wears a hat. So now I know she wears a hat. Thank you.

there are not as much graphics
I am needing more graphics to entertain
earthbound doesn't need a remake. plays fine. its look is ageless and charming still.
Yeah, but Mother 1 needs a fricking remake, and that's what OP's pic is. It has some neat stuff in it, but it just doesn't hold up like the other two games do.
Looks cute
>not earthbound
0/10
>chibi artsyle hd rpg
SOVL
these are probably the same kind of homosexuals who shit on Link's Awakening
NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN
Damn, I'd play that with both hands!
>But she has a new hat!
Original art for mother 1 was ugly, so this is an improvement.
Tell me you lack soul without telling me you lack soul.
Music and story was good.
I'd be okay with that. Basically, I'd put this on the radar so we could eventually get a Mother 3 remake that gives us as much of the cut content from the 64 version as possible. The GBA version is a castrated 10 hour summary of a 60 hour game, with all features and atmosphere gutted.
Here's your Mother 3 remake, bro.
looks so cute
SOUL
I clicked the link to shit on it but it actually looks good.
Nintendo doesn't even try.
>Depth of Field
Frick
OFF
WITH THIS FRICKING
SHIT
IN GAMES THAT HAVE ZERO COMPLICATED TEXTURE OR MODELS THAT ARE EASY AS FRICK ON THE EYES ALREADY
I really hope that if we get a remake, it isn't with these sterile camera angles reminiscent of how it looked on GBA. The N64 version actually tried to look cinematic, and this would be a chance to actually get it right.
>depth of field
YOUNG MAN, have a nice day
Too plastic.
the sad thing is the switch couldn't even run these graphics

Earthbound will always be trash, grow up.
You will never be loved
That's Mother 1
looks amazing tbh
i might finally play it, first time i was filtered by the press A to select option of what to do
The commercial scene in the picture frame is a nice touch and exactly what makes this blatantly fake.
>mother 1
ewww
It's almost as though it's the game that needs a remake the most! Wow
remakes aren't participation trophies
"needing" a remake probably means it doesn't "deserve" a remake
and in this case, yeah, it absolutely does not deserve a remake
You have it the wrong way around, good games shouldn't get remakes since they don't need them and are usually sidegrades at best
sounds good as long as they fix whatever problem they had with links awakening
playing through now and the constant framerate drops are awful
If only it was like the Dragon’s Trap remake that would let me switch between the new and old visuals and music on the fly (or at the very least the music).
The characters look a bit too plasticcy and stiff, but I'd still play.
NINTENDOOOOOOOOOOOO
Honestly would be KINO, it'd be a waste not to have those models in-battle, though, could make something like 3D Dragon Quest where the monster from the party PoV is there during your turn but you see the characters when they attack.
First Person JRPGs are more of a technical constrain than an stylistic choice, Ideally I'd say a view similar to the pokemon games would be nice
Honestly, the animal crossing style should be the standard for most nintendo games, especially if they're remaking topdown games or pokemon games.
I hate threads like these because it always makes me want thing I can’t have.
>Claymation look
Based as frick really, more games should go with a somewhat unconventional look. Like the Diorama thing Links Awakening had going on.
Still waiting on the day Nintendo has non-garbage hardware and can do a Star Fox game with that puppet look.
As if, given it's a dead series to them.
I wonder if someone still has those ships or those puppets.
won't happen because miyamoto's a cabbage and everybody else at the company thinks a "supermarionation" is something THEY made.
