First time seeing a PoE trailer? They unironically try to make garbage spells like firestorm look good in their trailers, and then the reality hits when you try it yourself in-game because the pace of the game is tenfold of that of the trailers.
I'm still mad I've been trying to make Firestorm useful for the last several seasons and ever since they changed it to have that initial big impact every build is shit. I miss being able to stack area of effect and have 10 firestorms covering the screen.
I don't mind the tree but every character class should have their special sphere grid. everyone having access to everything is shitty game design it just leads to gross redundancy and wasting time on bad builds.
The skill tree hasn't mattered in years, it's all endless RNG grind through ignoring literal millions upon millions of worthless items, and then either bricking dozens of hours of gameplay at the moronic crafting slot machine, or just buying whatever you want off the player market, realizing the game has become trash, and never playing it again.
Trading creates value for all items that drop for you, not just the ones that is pertinent to your build. No trading is a lazy, moronic way to balance your game.
Trading is an easy way to sell an "endgame" to morons and chinks that grind it 24/7. Designing the game for it to work without trading is too hard for ARPG devs
trading is comfy. you can do whatever you like and progress. in ssf you are forced to do heist, delve, some cancer shit, etc. And then in hc trading is even better because not a lot of people can do the hardest content, so you can get incredibly ritch there and do even harder content
If your game has a top down combat perspective and you can't move and attack at the same time with 'wasd' + mouse, then your game is clunky trash that belongs in 1999 (which is 99.99% of all top down aRPGs)

Did you actualy pay any attention? As you go along it becomes clear you are just another moron being brainwashed and corrupted by the magic gem aristocracy, many of the bosses are people who broke free of the control and you are playing (unkowingly) hitman for the bad guys. I find it pretty cool. The little narrated passages are also a lot of fun, i like the ones in act two were the local cities slowly start o realize they are living in what is more or less a zombie apocalypse because of the gemstones, the one about the little kids getting eaten alive by the neighbhors is pretty chilling.

I feel like you're better off pointing out how the trading/stash system works. You can't really play Path of Exile as a free to play player, it's just not possible. Even just currency+fragments+maps will take up all your 4 stash tabs easily and you will need more space.

Its like 10 pre-built pieces that are put together like legos. Compare that to POEs map generation and you can really see the clear winner(path of exile).
This keeps happening in modern media. Art direction is A++, same with cinematography in movies, while game design and scriptwriting and pacing and characterization are all absolute dogshit.

Endgame isn't free. You're astronomically unlikely to find the equipment you need, so you need to be able to trade. You need currency for trading. You are astronomically unlikely to actually find currency items. You are much more likely to find various rare items, and you can trade sets of rare items for currency.
Free players who pay nothing only have a few stash tabs with no specialization and limited space. In order to be able to hold your currency items and hold the loot you will exchange for currency, you'll have to buy extra stash tabs. Therefore, Path of Exile is pay to win.
I'm so fricking mad after all these years. I bought a 15$ supporter pack a decade ago to get into the beta, hoping that I could get some ebin new skins to pimp out my character. Just pirate the original diablo 2. Optionally you can install an overhaul mod like Path of Diablo (which has many QoL updates like a moderately bigger bank stash) and more uniques. Or Eastern Sun, there are a lot of cool ones.
I assure you that it will be more enjoyable just playing D2 than literally any other ARPG. I've played it every few years since I was like 8 years old and it never gets stale. And unlike other diablo-likes the difficulties actually matter. Going from Normal to Nightmare to Hell is almost like playing a whole new game.

Last Epoch has some good ideas, but it's still shallow as frick. It's kind of in-between D3 and PoE, where there's a good degree of freedom in how you build a character, but ultimately there's still pre-baked and obvious interactions, like skill A being able to trigger skill B, and only skill B, which in turn interacts with skill C. And all of them can conveniently be changed to the same damage type, so you only need to stack one type of damage mod on your gear and tree. It's not quite as restrictive as D3's mandatory 10000% damage bonus item sets, but it still puts down very obvious tracks to follow.
Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, Diablo 2. If you happen to have access to a time machine, Path of Exile during the Anarchy, Legacy, Synthesis, Betrayal, or Delirium leagues.

My biggest problem with poe right now is the amount of particle vomit everywhere. Every mob has some particle effect, ground effects, random league mechanics shitting up the map, influence mobs spawning with 30 effects. They really need to tone that shit down somehow

Path of Exile died for me when they stopped racing seasons/events. Was a really unique aspect of ARPG's and very rewarding (standard rmt was big at that time) and also fun.
D4 will NEVER have kino memorable bosses, that make people turn off their own music and actually enable the in game music for the fight. Your bosses don't even have voice lines or personality lmao, just upscaled trash monsters.

Only way is to add a way to brute force the game by pure grinding without interracting with 100 different mechanics. Currently picking loot from the ground is a waste of time compared to crafting and new players don't want to craft or trade, just play the game

Dropped gear should be crafted tier or at least have a decent chance to be godrolled to the same level.
That, or soft integrate Crucible into all items. Use an item enough, players get to pick 1 of 3/5 different affixes to add to that weapon.
Ease the pipeline or give a better introduction to the crafting game by giving a soft version of it available from start to end

POE for the most part really isn't just clicking one button, 90% of builds will generally have a curse, a debuff, a movement skill, a clear skill, and a single target skill.
That aside, generally, just blowing up massive packs of monsters is what an ARPG is, then you get cool items, and you use those items to make cool builds and take on aspirational content.

Objectively incorrect, in Diablo 2 when I summon Diablo and have insanely strong build I'm rewarded by being able to one shot him, and it's satisfying because when I got to him with a shitty build earlier, I had to pay attention to his lightning so I don't get gibbed.
In PoE, I'm "rewarded" by having to wait for the boss to spew edgy dialogue and go through le epic cinematic sequence and wannabe Binding of Isaac attacks until he enters phase 2, and then do it again. It literally kills the actual sense of progress and power of my character just as bad as stupid enemy scaling in D4.
So not only are bosses in PoE not ahead of the competition, they're not ahead of the competition when it comes to games from 20+ years ago.

POE bosses are miles ahead of D2 bosses... for every POE boss that has dialogue and a immunity phase, there are dozens that don't. Most map bosses in POE have just as many unique abilities as Diablo in D2, so I'm not even really sure what your point is, you also got dogshit loot from Diablo in D2 like 95% of the time as well.

For instance Sirus was janky-ass moronic shit for, like, two years. And just after he got to a decent place they made the uber version which is also moronic shit.
Actually good bosses? Ones where if you play well you don't really have anything to worry about even if you're not very strong? Not many of those. It seems like you always have to cope with the jankiness of design of bosses by outscaling their stats. Like uber Exarch. Noone is actually reliably dodging the turbo meatballs. You just have to tank them. That's just stupid design of the encounter. And there's a lot of shit like that.

First time seeing a PoE trailer? They unironically try to make garbage spells like firestorm look good in their trailers, and then the reality hits when you try it yourself in-game because the pace of the game is tenfold of that of the trailers.

As you go along it becomes clear you are just another moron being brainwashed and corrupted by the magic gem aristocracy, many of the bosses are people who broke free of the control and you are playing (unkowingly) hitman for the bad guys. I find it pretty cool. The little narrated passages are also a lot of fun, i like the ones in act two were the local cities slowly start o realize they are living in what is more or less a zombie apocalypse because of the gemstones, the one about the little kids getting eaten alive by the neighbhors is pretty chilling.

I feel like you're better off pointing out how the trading/stash system works. You can't really play Path of Exile as a free to play player, it's just not possible. Even just currency+fragments+maps will take up all your 4 stash tabs easily and you will need more space.
Treat PoE as a $20 game and you will still get 10x the time/enjoyment out of it compared to $100 D4

Endgame isn't free. You're astronomically unlikely to find the equipment you need, so you need to be able to trade. You need currency for trading. You are astronomically unlikely to actually find currency items. You are much more likely to find various rare items, and you can trade sets of rare items for currency.
Free players who pay nothing only have a few stash tabs with no specialization and limited space. In order to be able to hold your currency items and hold the loot you will exchange for currency, you'll have to buy extra stash tabs. Therefore, Path of Exile is pay to win.

And unlike other diablo-likes the difficulties actually matter. Going from Normal to Nightmare to Hell is almost like playing a whole new game.

Dark Souls
Last Epoch has some good ideas, but it's still shallow as frick. It's kind of in-between D3 and PoE, where there's a good degree of freedom in how you build a character, but ultimately there's still pre-baked and obvious interactions, like skill A being able to trigger skill B, and only skill B, which in turn interacts with skill C. And all of them can conveniently be changed to the same damage type, so you only need to stack one type of damage mod on your gear and tree. It's not quite as restrictive as D3's mandatory 10000% damage bonus item sets, but it still puts down very obvious tracks to follow.
Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, Diablo 2. If you happen to have access to a time machine, Path of Exile during the Anarchy, Legacy, Synthesis, Betrayal, or Delirium leagues.

My biggest problem with poe right now is the amount of particle vomit everywhere. Every mob has some particle effect, ground effects, random league mechanics shitting up the map, influence mobs spawning with 30 effects. They really need to tone that shit down somehow

Only way is to add a way to brute force the game by pure grinding without interracting with 100 different mechanics. Currently picking loot from the ground is a waste of time compared to crafting and new players don't want to craft or trade, just play the game

Dropped gear should be crafted tier or at least have a decent chance to be godrolled to the same level.
That, or soft integrate Crucible into all items. Use an item enough, players get to pick 1 of 3/5 different affixes to add to that weapon.

POE for the most part really isn't just clicking one button, 90% of builds will generally have a curse, a debuff, a movement skill, a clear skill, and a single target skill.
That aside, generally, just blowing up massive packs of monsters is what an ARPG is, then you get cool items, and you use those items to make cool builds and take on aspirational content.
D4 has no cool loot, and no aspirational content.

Objectively incorrect, in Diablo 2 when I summon Diablo and have insanely strong build I'm rewarded by being able to one shot him, and it's satisfying because when I got to him with a shitty build earlier, I had to pay attention to his lightning so I don't get gibbed.
In PoE, I'm "rewarded" by having to wait for the boss to spew edgy dialogue and go through le epic cinematic sequence and wannabe Binding of Isaac attacks until he enters phase 2, and then do it again. It literally kills the actual sense of progress and power of my character just as bad as stupid enemy scaling in D4.
So not only are bosses in PoE not ahead of the competition, they're not ahead of the competition when it comes to games from 20+ years ago.
POE bosses are miles ahead of D2 bosses... for every POE boss that has dialogue and a immunity phase, there are dozens that don't. Most map bosses in POE have just as many unique abilities as Diablo in D2, so I'm not even really sure what your point is, you also got dogshit loot from Diablo in D2 like 95% of the time as well.

For instance Sirus was janky-ass moronic shit for, like, two years. And just after he got to a decent place they made the uber version which is also moronic shit.
Actually good bosses? Ones where if you play well you don't really have anything to worry about even if you're not very strong? Not many of those. It seems like you always have to cope with the jankiness of design of bosses by outscaling their stats. Like uber Exarch. Noone is actually reliably dodging the turbo meatballs. You just have to tank them. That's just stupid design of the encounter. And there's a lot of shit like that.
I definitely think some of them are janky, but at least GGG is releasing pinnacle bosses and endgame content on a regular basis, it's been 10 years since D3 and D4 releases with 1 pinnacle boss, dog shit itemization, dogshit uniques, and horrible build diversity.
Lost interest in PoE after I realized it had clear gacha mechanics in various areas and got tired of the insane levels of layered RNG. Deterministic grind is fine, gambling grind is for the mentally ill.
