Pretty sure those frames only show for a second before you go into full speed in-game. They're meant to be a transition.
i think you ran out of rage bait ideas op
posting something good and pretending it's bad only works with games, we can all see that alucard strides confidently (unlike you who shuffles like a jackass), whereas if you just made a thread shitting on sotn, people who haven't played that wouldn't know otherwise
>i think you ran out of rage bait ideas op >200 replies
the problem is you morons love responding to stuff like this. the board is low quality because the users are low quality. if by sheer accident something high quality ever gets posted, it's ignored.
The "upgrade" on this one is legitimately great, remaster a bit less so.
No, the 20 frames versions make Samus look like a paper doll with limbs pinned on and spinning around independently instead of a human with a single body whose limbs influence each other.
How is it pedantic to explain in simple terms why those animations look worse than the original? Would you rather I just say: >OLD GOOD >NEW BAD
And not explain why at all?

My opinion is what this entire series of replies has been about. I don't know if it's purely because of the increased framerate or because of alterations made to the animations, but each one makes Samus' torso and head look progressively stiffer and by extension her limbs seem more and more like freely rotating pinned on appendages instead of being part of a cohesive whole.
The gif was made by the creator of Guinnea Pig Parcour, a game decades in the making and inspired by the creators first pet.
Dude learned how to animate frame by frame just for that purpose.

It's perfect, thanks. Look at him. The confidence in his stride, the arms moving forward with each step as he knows he's coming to frick Dracula's shit. You wish you had 1/10 of his sheer chad energy he's emitting right now.
It's got no bounce to it. One of the satisfying things about Sonic's cycles is how he looks like he's putting some effort into walking up to speed then he glides effortlessly in his full run.
>The CD one is nice
homie what are you smoking? It's literally the Sonic 1 sprite but worse
I prefer it in gameplay, the head bobbing is a bit distracting for me, I don't know why
The head shouldn't bob. Sonic is meant to go fast like a racecar, racecars don't bob. Perfect aerodynamics mean absolute steadiness. CD and Crackers are the best ones in this respect
It's not a good point. Sonic's head bobs only when he's building up speed, and to continue the car comparison, once his feet turn into wheels, there is no bobbing anymore.
This is why bobbing is better: it creates a visual feedback between the moment he's building up speed, and the moment he's at cruise control speed.

>I've actually never played Sonic myself
Typical Sonic fan.
what a strawman, the 4 frame original in motion is so fast and the silhouette is so clean for the few bytes it uses, and this gif shows nothing of what it looks like for real
Alucard never did anything gay though? The cuckflix show doesn't count, otherwise half the cast would be atheist (funny since their fricking whip gets its powers from god) Black folk.
God I hate this. Also I double checked and yes Batman's head bobs by a pixel as he runs in the actual game. Some of these feel like unfair comparisons for that reason.
Nothing is wrong with bobbing. What I'm implying here is that Batman one feels unfair because he's not showing how the actual animation works in game, and then posts his "upgrade" as if he's knows what the frick he's doing.
Yeah, the lack of upper arc makes sense with the soft weightless steps of a ninja (even in live action classic moves they run that way), just like it doesn't with a turbochad forceful stride like Alucard's. Proof that these are creative choices that shouldn't be streamlined as rules.
are these being made in earnest? i guess people are allowed to frick around however, but this looks like utter dogshit.
the legs. what happened to the legs, he looks grotesque. is this on purpose, it really doesn't work for the aesthetic.
i also don't think a swordsman is supposed to let his blade flap around on every step like that, motherfricker gonna chop off his cartoonishly disproportionate dick. p sure it should be like a gun, not necessarily in front of your face, but otherwise you keep it steady so it's ready. a single-handed sword anyway.

They're USED for that purpose because it came out of Gankertards sperging out about it, but no expressly created for said purpose.

Call it rent free or whatever, but the fact I can sense something is unironically Reddit makes me detest the current state of the board and poster quality. Some gays weren't kidding when they said Ganker's become side gig for normalgays and Redditors to shitpost on without getting downdooted.
I read in some the-art-of book somewhere (I think it was about a Tomm Moore film) one of the most important points regarding animation theory—and extensible to art in general—that still manages to go over the heads of many animation pro-sumers and even actual professionals in all kinds of modern essays or just casual takes. "Animation is an art form with principles but no rules."
Not even going into the modern obsession with the 12 Principles as a rigid checklist to "review" animation, "Bounce" and extra frames basically have as much intrinsic value as a plus as they do as a con. It's all about context and purpose, i.e. general style and specific characterization in this case.
Alucard doesn't move in the game in anything close to the way a real person moves, but regardless of how much of that is intentional in the case of his walk cycle specially, I can agree that it kinda works since he's supposed to be a weird, otherworldly magical being. That said, basically every other animation of his has a flowing, graceful quality that's kinda absent in the cycle yeah.
he's got a point, they're not hideous or anything but they're too chunky
especially in x4 when you see x's gut just protrude violently on the stage select like damn double doesn't look so bad with that next to him
The PS1 sprites are my favorite look for Zero, particularly the ones with the different saber in X6.

X had that look in X3's weapon get and promotional artwork as well, I think it's more of a design difference thing.
I know this board is for olds to jerk off to nostalgia but Alucard's animation really impressed me when I saw it first. Smoothness can add a lot of fidelity depending on execution, the classic choppy style definitely has it's own appeal
if you read the thread you'll see that pretty much everyone agrees that his animation is geeat if even perfect.
What we ridicule are those "upgrades" which idiots do to sprites and which are nearly always absolute crap, typically adding unnecessary movement like hat flapping and excessive bobbing
Nta, but what you're describing is not pretty much everyone considering that particular animation good. It's pretty much everyone rejecting criticism of any kind of a game considered good by, again, pretty much everyone, regardless of how specific, inane and not particularly critical of the game as a whole that criticism is. It's basic knee-jerk reaction to perceived contrarianism, quickly snowballing into doubling and tripling down. You just called that animation "perfect" ffs.

So much better than Juste's walking animation.
>the official “I just got pussy for the first time” walk
This is proof that, for normies, smoothness trumps basically any other factor when it comes to "good animation"
Post a good walk cycle then, if you are so great.
It's appropriate for Alucard because he's a graceful, elegant kind of bishonen dude so his animations are really smooth and flowing.
It's not like the game doesn't have more violent animations with cut frames or anything.
he's a fricking vampire you moron.

anyway, you do realize "good" animation usually exaggerates things? Disney did that all the time.

So many /vr/ anons getting personally defensive about awkward-looking ways of walking? Shocking.
Why did they downgrade the prototype Sonic 2 sprite animation and why is the Sonic CD sprite so fricking bad?
It's got no bounce to it. One of the satisfying things about Sonic's cycles is how he looks like he's putting some effort into walking up to speed then he glides effortlessly in his full run.

Simon turned into a hunchback who shat his pants, very nice

The original slow pimp walk is cooler. It radiates an aura of confidence and smugness.
tip-toes
The best one yet.
The only one that actually looks good
I unironically don't have a problem with this one
This one isn't so bad.
Because it's just the SM run, it's not making up shit over what they THINK it would look like with more frames.
what a strawman, the 4 frame original in motion is so fast and the silhouette is so clean for the few bytes it uses, and this gif shows nothing of what it looks like for real

Jet Set Willy starring Vampire Hunter D
Symphony of the Night

I agree with him. I like that it looks weird, just like everything else in that game. It's oddly satisfying.
For you, it's the run cycle.
For me, it's the stop cycle.
But that's not a cycle

It is now, biiiiiitch
Ok, now it's a bad cycle.

How about this one, then? Clearly it's better.

What's wrong with bobbing? It adds dynamics when it's tasteful.
Nothing is wrong with bobbing. What I'm implying here is that Batman one feels unfair because he's not showing how the actual animation works in game, and then posts his "upgrade" as if he's knows what the frick he's doing.
Fair enough, anon.
>Ninja who glides across ground
>Ninja who stomps with every footfall
Why is he laughing?
The fact that he didn't bob his head when running always made he feel more "ninja" to me. The upgrade killed it completely
Yeah, the lack of upper arc makes sense with the soft weightless steps of a ninja (even in live action classic moves they run that way), just like it doesn't with a turbochad forceful stride like Alucard's. Proof that these are creative choices that shouldn't be streamlined as rules.

MMX1-3 with the MMX4-6 graphics would be even better.
