Emulator devs tend to be full blown spergs.

one random moron decided it was cool
          >why was he allowed to do so?
because emulation is filled with morons and autistic morons

I mean, people smart enough to be able to program an emuator should be smart enough to know what ISO files are, and that detecting them doesn't mean it's autmatically pirated material, it's common fricking sense, so I don't get how this happens even if you take autism into the equation it just doesn't add up.

Emu downloads usually have a similar warning just to cover their asses, but this is a discord server he's trying to protect, there are far worse things to find there if it gets looked into.

And doing something like this is going to prevent it getting looked into?

The autistic dude added a message about "no piracy pls" that if you clicked OK too fast, it would pop up every 150 seconds or something.
And a fricking loud beep that destroy ears, it's not just the ISO message.
It was an autistic power trip.

This is the sort of thing you throw in to avoid getting sued, because it's otherwise fricking obvious that everyone involved is a filthy pirate.

Unfortunately, reading between the lines and shutting the frick up is an impossible task for autistic people like OP, and the 'warning' was interpreted as strange literal hypocrisy.

            Anonymous

It's a plausible deniability thing. Emulators are not illegal, this has been established with court precedent. But the primary use case of emulators, to pirate commercial games, IS illegal. So every emulator project does this funny little dance where they feign virtue and claim they're only developing using self-dumped images and homebrew. It has everything to do with evading legal liability, like a lot of things in the US.
As for why that belongs in a pop-up alert, who knows. Probably an overly influential Discord mod whining at the UI guy about having to click the ban button too often.

Just out of curiosity do these online development projects do ANY type of (basic) background checks for members? I mean like surface level social media scan or looking up the persons handles in a search engine or something? Or do programmers really just roll the dice in the hopes that the person they brought on board won't sabotage their project?

I wonder how much of this is autistic power tripping and how much is simply "SEE BIG GAME COMPANIES WE DONT CONDONE PIRACY OKAY PLEASE FRICK OFF WE"RE FOLLOWING THE LAW" . For instance, the Switch emus Yuzu and Ryujinx (I think Cemu and Citra both do it as well) arent threatening to ban anyone, but if you go into their chat and post a log looking for help or to report an issue etc.. and it basically shows you're using a pirated game copy, they say "Hey, sorry we can't support piracy here. Redump the game from your own Switch and then we can talk", probably more out of self preservation than anything else - Nintendo would LOVE to kill these emus and they could probably get some judge to rule its "mostly for piracy" if they can provide evidence that thousands of users in the Discord are posting logs that they're using unaltered scene file names with the pirate releease groups right in the tag etc, so they can't let anyone get one over on them .

This Xenia thing though must be a joke or pure autism.
