The last non-remake, non-NSMB 2D Mario was Land 2 in 1992. It's been 31 years.

Peach is getting a new game and it looks like it dropped the platforming roots from Super Princess Peach. Wario dropped his platforming roots for WarioWare. Donkey Kong Country is still dead.

LOL game and wario? That shit was absolute trash. It was barely a wario ware game. It had like 11 "bigger" minigames in score attack form, all but 2 were trash. It had 2 banger multiplayer minigames though. I played it a lot at parties for just apple thief and islands. Other than that I'm glad I got it free because I'd be furious paying 50 dollars for that e3 tech demo released at full price

Yeah. It's actually pretty excellent.
But Smooth Moves, aside from being really good in its own right, was also the best multiplayer game in the franchise. And this really does look to be Smooth Moves 2. So I am expecting good things on this front again.
But yeah. Get it Together was really good. And probably has the most unique games in the franchise for better or worse. I loved it.

This, it's like asking why the Mario and Luigi remakes flopped. Hell they could've brought a remake of SSS to the Switch no issue since it was originally on the GBA so there was no touch screen or microphone frickery attached to it.
It doesn't matter to smart people and to non-poorgays, I bought the game too, but it is literally what happened. All 3DS games after a certain date were automatic flops, Gold was simply no exception.

they get a good return on investment considering they sell anywhere from 1-3 million on average. For reference, Breath of the Wild only needed 2 million copies sold to break even and Nintendo said it's one of the most expensive games they ever published.

that's partly why smooth moves did so well since it released early and was a great tech demo for the wii. I'm surprised it took them this long to go back to the idea on switch

I think it's less that it was on 3DS and more that it came out way too fricking late-the Switch doesn't have all of the things necessary to make it's selection of microgames work, after all (no mic, no dual screens).
If it had released in 2014/2015 it probably would've hardcore revitalized interest in the series before Get it Together, but releasing a whole year post Switch launch was just begging for a flop
a lot of the first year switch felt like Nintendo was bracing themselves for another WiiU by supporting the 3DS as much as possible, once the Switch became a success they quickly killed development for it

I liked it but going back to traditional controls was a turn-off for people who liked the gimmicky aspect of other WarioWares. Also wanted it to be a grinding type game with the character leveling for longevity. And compared to Gold, the character cutscenes were gimped and not as charming so threads didn't last long.
The only warioware that really sucked is snapped and thats because it was more of a tech demo for the dsi than a game, I liked game and wario so I don't shit on that one.
Get it together only gets shit because the bar is so high from the rest of the series. GIT is only pretty good instead of 12/10 peak gaming, so it looks subpar by comparison.
I also did, but the way I feel about Warioware game quality is often proportional to how many failstates or chances of fricking up a run you have. You had so many chances to frick up a microgame in GiT that I'd avoid a lot of levels just because I felt like it was more of a cointoss than a test of reflexes if I won

They could (and SHOULD) make an RPG set in Diamond City and have attacking each enemy using a different Warioware cast initiate a unique microgame that determines DMG dealt like the timed hits in Mario & Luigi (so each mook would generate their own set of microgrames depending on who attacks it resulting in large combination of rotating playstyles depending on each character's control gimmick.

i've heard both twisted and smooth moves being said as the best games but i've only played the latter, i know twisted has a patch that makes the d-pad do the motion controls for emulators but i haven't really messed with it yet.

My speculation is that Nintendo thinks they have too many platforming franchises and is trying to move away from supporting Mario characters having platformers since they get overshadowed by Mario. Peach is getting a new game and it looks like it dropped the platforming roots from Super Princess Peach. Wario dropped his platforming roots for WarioWare. Donkey Kong Country is still dead.

Other than that I'm glad I got it free because I'd be furious paying 50 dollars for that e3 tech demo released at full price

Yeah. It's actually pretty excellent.
But Smooth Moves, aside from being really good in its own right, was also the best multiplayer game in the franchise. And this really does look to be Smooth Moves 2. So I am expecting good things on this front again.
But yeah. Get it Together was really good. And probably has the most unique games in the franchise for better or worse. I loved it.

I think it's less that it was on 3DS and more that it came out way too fricking late-the Switch doesn't have all of the things necessary to make it's selection of microgames work, after all (no mic, no dual screens).
If it had released in 2014/2015 it probably would've hardcore revitalized interest in the series before Get it Together, but releasing a whole year post Switch launch was just begging for a flop

I thought Get It Together was good.
It was my GOTY whenever it came out, I thought the idea of having to react both to the micro-game and character was stupidly fun, I had a blast going for high scores.
It's really hard to frick up a warioware game.
The controls were a little hard to adjust to. I mean you couldn't really randomly pick up and play, because you're like "how does this character move again? Oh shit I tried to jump and I already failed the game."
I liked it but going back to traditional controls was a turn-off for people who liked the gimmicky aspect of other WarioWares. Also wanted it to be a grinding type game with the character leveling for longevity. And compared to Gold, the character cutscenes were gimped and not as charming so threads didn't last long.

Get it together only gets shit because the bar is so high from the rest of the series. GIT is only pretty good instead of 12/10 peak gaming, so it looks subpar by comparison.
I also did, but the way I feel about Warioware game quality is often proportional to how many failstates or chances of fricking up a run you have. You had so many chances to frick up a microgame in GiT that I'd avoid a lot of levels just because I felt like it was more of a cointoss than a test of reflexes if I won

They could (and SHOULD) make an RPG set in Diamond City and have attacking each enemy using a different Warioware cast initiate a unique microgame that determines DMG dealt like the timed hits in Mario & Luigi (so each mook would generate their own set of microgrames depending on who attacks it resulting in large combination of rotating playstyles depending on each character's control gimmick.

i've heard both twisted and smooth moves being said as the best games but i've only played the latter, i know twisted has a patch that makes the d-pad do the motion controls for emulators but i haven't really messed with it yet.
the d-pad patches have existed for ages but the game never plays well with it
to properly play it you'd need to emulate it with something like a phone that has a gyroscope or buy the actual cartridge, which I ended up doing
They presumably would be able to make an NSO port like they did with tilt n tumble but then you'd have to buy the expansion pass
yeah i'll probably have to go with phone emulation, d-pad would probably take away from the experience and even if it ever got on NSO i'm not paying for nintendo's online.

I imagine the audience of people who wanted to make games was small compared to people who just wanted a new warioware game, which it was a very meager version of if all you did was play the included games. I really liked the puzzle stages where you had to finish the scripting for a game to make it work right.
