Yeah, I agree with you Serial LARPist kun. If you buy P3 specifically because you want to read a VN then you'll be massively disappointed as the game is mostly tartarus grinding.
It drives me up the fricking wall that the western game community does this.
To be clear: the Japanese visual novel (NVL) is essentially just a digital picture book. It has character portraits and backgrounds, but no interactive elements or environments. The only thing that makes them a "game" is the player choices for branching narrative pathways.
This is entirely distinct from Adventure games (eg danganronpa or phoenix wright) which have objects and environments that progress a linear narrative, and dating sims which require the player to interact with various tasks to increase character stats I order to continue the narrative.
Persona 3 is a JRPG with social sim elements, including but not limited to romance.

his argument is clearly bait because he thinks danganrompa isnt a VN and even wants to exclude dating sims from VNs. what is even left of VNs by the time you remove dating sims?
It was already explained. Visual Novels are literally just stories. The only interactive element is the branching storyline choices, which not all VNs have.
Dating sims are games, not novels. Adventure games (like Danganronpa) are also games, not novels.
The way they say "This series" might imply that they're talking about the Megami Tensei series as a whole, and since the first game came out in 87 that gives him slightly more credence, but I'm probably giving this gay way too much credit.
>What are VN elements >What is the fact that nu persona objectively takes influence from VNs and has even gotten more upfront with it to the point where at least one version of P3 literally IS a VN (P3P)
Actual fricking morons
>The term "visual novel" did not even exist when this series was created.
if this guy has any point, most people probably didn't see it because that was so wrong it just invalidated it anything they had to say and they stopped reading..

Now stop making threads about yourself
every games is a VN thanks to youtube. All games should have that tag
>reddit reddit twitter club
>Visual novel terms did not even exist when this series was created
Lie, NEXT shit thread!
wtf do you even do in Persona? All the gameplay I saw the guy was running the same green and black dungeon on repeat then larping as a high schooler.
That's exactly it. Boring dungeon diving where you get to bone cute girls occasionally.

your argument about vns falls apart instantly with games like dead of the brain or yuno.

>turn-based JRPG
I have more respect for half VN games like Gnosia or Ace Attorney than I have for this troony casual slop genre.
This person believes that Persona 3 is so old that visual novels didn't even exist back then.
It came out in fricking 2006.
considering he used doki doki as his VN example, he probably doesn't know anything before that existed
Phoenix Wright came out 5 years before Persona 3 did

go back
>only 90% of the game is a visual novel so it's a game
>spending one night a month in the dungeon means it's a game!
dude doesn't even have the game frick is he complaining for?

I would call it a dungeon crawler, with pokemon mechanics. but JRPG rolls off the tongue for sure.
Most tags are trash anyway, good luck finding legit RPGs or MMOs on Steam, everything is an RPG or an MMO these days apparently.

Yeah the primary difference is VNs are actually good
kys OP
Is Baldr Sky a VN?
Baldr Sky is an action game that uses VN elements to present its narrative.
From twitter threads to clown farming steam threads.
Ganker really became the end point of regurgitated internet media. How the tables have turned.
>he thinks P3 is older than visual novels
What an utter moron
